It's not a desert, it's sandy because the barren lands (already noticeable in the original) are being mined. Notice how the remake added more mining devices in the background while in the OG the only mining place was the level itself. It's not better or worse, just different but still believable.

It'd be one thing if the remake was trying to fully realize things that weren't originally because of technical/time limitations. If it had been developed in-house by Fromsoft, they could have added the Archstone of the Giants for example.
It's another thing entirely for a third party with no real understanding of the original game deciding for themselves that certain things were "wrong" and needed to be "fixed". There's no thought given to whether something looked the way it did intentionally. In truth, it's about leaving THEIR mark. They can't create their own beloved game, but they CAN supplant the original vision with their own, and because the old game is in old hardware and less likely to be played by the general public, they successfully replace the original with their version.
This was never about "changing things to be better", it was just about "changing things because we can".

Ionno; something about being able to frick yourself over for playing badly sits better with me than always having the assurance of never running out of healing supplies. It's sort of like the blood vials in Bloodborne; you can farm blood vials and bullets but after a while enemies will only drop coins. Bloodborne improves on Demon's Souls in that regard, at least.

To be honest I can't understand why Ganker to this day is so spastic about souls games. Maybe it's for that they are the only ones that invoke true dark fantasy experience without romance and save the world bullshit, maybe for the fact that most enemies have unique design that is memorable and gameplay is fun when you get past gitgud phase, also armor design is one of the best to ever exist in a fantasy game. But the gameplay, ooooh the gameplay, especially controls are just made with a controller in mind first, pc ds1 plays like shit compared to sekiro or bloodborne, no fluid movement, almost tank like controls, even old monster hunter feels million times better to control, and the fricking camera, i just hate it, especially in tight corridors, it's fricking garbage. But the souls anons defend it like it's their mother getting insulted, I just don't know why it's so bad with them when you point out obvious flaws that naturally, every old post-6th gen console game has.
