      Anonymous

It's OK if you want a walking simulator where you occasionally shoot something or you just really like the outdoors and hunting.

      It's not for everyone.
The base game is a very good representation of all the rest, if you buy that and don't like it then don't buy more, the DLC won't "fix" anything, it's is just more raw content but largely the same.

      Anonymous

I like it to play every once in a while. You spend such a little amount of your time hunting, though.
      It's a follow-tracks-for-an-hour, miss-your-fricking-shot, follow-tracks-for-another-hour type game.
Feels really good when you nail a big game though.
      It's comfy.
I got all the DLC on Epic because it was on heavy sale there and not on Steam.

A slippery slope fallacy (SSF), in logic, critical thinking, political rhetoric, and caselaw, is a fallacious argument in which a party asserts that a relatively small first step leads to a chain of related events culminating in some significant (usually negative) effect

                Anonymous

troony: A creature that is a biological male that tries and fails at being a woman, after they cut their dick off and realise they will never be a woman they then kill themselves at an increased rate compared to preop trannies due to not fixing their underlying mental illness, thus troonyism or transitoning can be compared to the lobotomy in effectiveness.

but it isn't a fallacy. it literally happens and there are documented cases of it. and why the frick wouldn't it happen? the slippery slope occurs when standards are lowered or gates stopped being kept. if you want a huge and obvious fricking example of it look at the USA and the 1965 anti-white immigration act. conservatives of the time raised concerns that it would lead to a slippery slope of mass non-white immigration that would demographically replace the at-the-time 95% white america, and guess what fricking happened.

Use callers and lay prone. Crouch back up only to take the shot. Also the real effective range is like 20m for bows and 30m for crossbows. 50m+ you're going to miss your shot or be wildly inaccurate because of wind.

Effective ranges usually are more important for game that requires a clean hit into a vital organ or enough penetration to wound them, so the ranges of what essentially passes for a clean kill can vary wildly depending on the animal in question. Larger game like elks, deers, moose, bears etc. tend to require much cleaner hits in vital organs while smaller game very often don't need too much of a fuss in terms of effective ranges. Obviously you could make the argument that any weaponry for small game makes sense, but i try to keep my harvest checks and TR as clean as possible from doing shit like hunting pheasants with a fricking Rangemaster. I have around 150 hours or so combined in just Bow and Shotgun Upland hunting, so i do tend recommend people fussing over range mostly get better at stalking or simply use rifles, like any sane person.

          >how to mad dosh?
          1. Go to hirschfelden.
          2. Bring the semi auto 22. rifle with ten shots.
          3. Find a place where geese land.
          4. Put a high seat in the middle of the field.
          5. Put down 20 fake geese around it.
          6. Use the caller to cause them to land and try to pop as many in short succession as you can.

          That's about 1-2k a pop.

Pro-Mode: There are two kind of flying geese. One is only ambience to show migration paths and are invulnerable and will never land. The others will occur around hunting setups like described above and can be shot. Even in mid-air. If you learn to lead your shots suficiently you can shoot a complete set of geese and they will keep spawning over the day. Easily make 100k a day.

Alternatively some maps have borked pathing nodes that causes fleeing animals to run in circles around it. You can just sit on your seat and pop them. Good luck finding them, though.

I thought they reduced the amount of cash you get from geese. Plus it's not as easy to wipe out flocks of them since they reworked bird hunting.

They completely redid birds for Revontuli which came out in June of 2022. They tend to fly faster and more erratic making them harder to hit. Seems they spook easier too. I'm not sure when they reduced the price for geese.

                Anonymous

Seems only for waterfowl. Hirschfelden geese are suicidal morons that will fly over your AA-tower. Even if they fly faster and more erratical, you can still kill them. It's just more challenging. Biggest problem is finding all the corpses littered around you.

I won't have the time to verify this, though.

Realistically how the frick are Epic supposed to compete without exclusives?

If you tried to make a direct competitor to steam the "correct" way (focusing solely on quality of service, no exclusive content) you would end up making the most polished feature-rich service that no one uses or only use for free shit because people have already built up a library/profile with steam

That said Epic fricked up by not investing anywhere near enough into launcher features / improvements

They have coupons during sales giving them way better pricing than steam. Then again if you're still buying from steam instead of key resellers in current year then you're absolutely doing it wrong anyway.

by making a good launcher, a good user experience, and THEN having better prices or exclusives
u can't start with prices or exclusives.
if its a con to use your client, and you force people to use it for games they want to play, they will hate it, you need to make the experience good, so its neutral for them to use your client THEN making it have games they like

If their store & launcher fricking worked properly and they had equal or deeper discounts than Steam while having their better cut for developers then they'd probably have a niche. They could even still pay publishers to get games on their store with a launch discount instead of full exclusivity. GOG has a niche for itself by having its own good sales, a lack of DRM, and a solid functional store. The only thing GOG is lacking compared to Steam is the library, particularly in Japanese games.

Probably not? I dunno. It's a relaxing autism game. If you're bad (or unlucky) you can walk around and not find anything for an hour straight. Or you can learn how the mechanics work and grind animals for diamonds and great ones.

COTW is pretty arcadey. All hunting sims are really. Don't expect anything realistic.
The game is definitely better if you don't know every mechanic like I do.

        Anonymous

It's unfun at first if you come from games like RDR2 where you can drive-by animals from your horse since you won't come across jack since animals can detect you from a fricking kilometer away (exaggerated) if you're not sneaky. Some of the missions specially in the base game are awful since they're "hunt this specific animal in this tiny-ass zone at this specific time while in a hunting blind with this type of weapon while landing a heart shot and doing a headstand at midnight" tiers of bullshit. There's one I could NEVER complete since deer are NEVER there. It then loops back to being unfun once you figure out all the need zone mechanics and all you're doing is grinding shit animals to make diamonds spawn.

Frick. I remember this one. It was from Medved Taiga. I had to land cervical shots on those buttholes and it was hard because their stumpy-ass side-silhoulette didn't help. THEY HAVE NO FRICKING NECK.

I couldn't do that one either. My game bugged around that point and every bear would react and switch positions instantly (drinking->alert>spooked within a milisecond) matrix-style the moment I shot the arrow so even if I lined up the heart perfectly at 25m on my screen it would show the arrow going through the bear's foot or some other random limb on the hit screen because the hit landing wasn't instant. Frick tracking down gold bears to keep trying, too.

It is so far removed from Monster Hunter it can't really compared. Just try it for free. You're going to need to give the game 4 hours. You will not shoot anything of value in the first hour or two. It's an extremely, extremely slow game.

Oh shit, this was free on epic? I bought it on Steam yesterday.

In my defense that's just the base game. I looked up if the game was playable without any DLC and the consensus is "no, you need at least a couple DLC", so I bought the pack with 10 DLC for $5.

But I'm hating the game so far. Holy shit I can't hunt ANYTHING. It's like you need to crouch everywhere which takes ages, I don't have all this time motherfricker. Seriously considering refunding it.

      >But I'm hating the game so far. Holy shit I can't hunt ANYTHING. It's like you need to crouch everywhere which takes ages, I don't have all this time motherfricker. Seriously considering refunding it.
That's okay anon. The game doesn't get any faster with big game, either. It's not a game for most people.

        Anonymous

But I'm still in denial that I really have to crouch everywhere.

Frick, I WAS crouching everywhere in the tutorial, and the deer still ran away to me. Then the game said "you should be prone, dumb moron". So I went prone and instead of walking 1 meter every second I'm now """walking""" half a meter every second. Is this seriously how you must move everywhere? How can I even tell when to crouch and when to go prone?

Then I looked this shit up and 99% of people say to camp a feeding area at morning, which feels like cheating.

The game's title should have been "Euro Hunting Simulator" so that it could warn about its autism at glance.

          >camp a feeding area at morning, which feels like cheating.
Well.... What do you want to happen? Deer to be gathered in numbers in an open field for... whatever reason?
You're on their turf that they've evolved in for an untold number of thousands of years.
You have to level the playing field. Humans by themselves fricking suck as hunters without extra gadgets. Play to your natural build of intelligence.

This would be fine if I could skip time for free, but I need to pay in order to sleep, and I'm broke as frick because on the way to my first lodge I built a wooden cabin for all the money that was in my pocket (the game gave zero indication of what I would build, I thought it could be something useful)

That's actually a good idea anon, I guess that's what I'm going to do since I also missed what seemed to be free deer from the tutorial, and instead killed a fricking turkey

                Anonymous

The good news is the game is fairly samey. Hunting just get smore challenging and the gear you unlock is just more ways to shoot and miss the animal.
It's an extremely slow burn type of game that makes even sim-autists sleep.
I stopped playing it over a year ago though.

          Anonymous

What matters more is avoiding making excessive noise by rummaging through underbrush. Another factor is also that deer are skittish as all hell, so they are much more prone to being spooked by every little thing. If you feel like the idea of stalking around and being super careful about everything isn't up your alley, you could technically try hunting other type of game, such as birds. I tend to recommend birds to new players solely due to it being much more relaxing and you get to learn a bit more about ballistics and aiming when hunting with a shotgun or bow. Other note to take also is that stalking isn't always the answer, you can also set up blind and use lures to attract animals in certain spots for a little shooting range type of action, but it requires a little setup and knowledge of the "Need Zones" of the animals. Just get the tutorial sorted and make a plan on what (and how) you want to hunt. That's the first step, you can't exactly enjoy your time, if you don't even know what you want out of it in the first place.

No, Hirschfelden in particular has shitty vegetation that barely hides you. You can sit inside a bush so dense you can't look out of it and have the better hiding in foliage upgrade and you'd still only get half way covered, but you can sit under a tree in quatro and be fully covered.

Is the new map good? I haven't played for a few years. I think South America was the last map I played.

that game is so lazy, shitty, buggy mess I cant imagine why people buy it. the only thing it has going for itself is that it is somewhat better than other hunting games. by a very small margin

I remember when Te came out and the chamois would crumple into a black hole when spooked.

This game is dogshit without all the DLC and buying DLC is better through steam.

You know, when Ayn Rand said that the free market would prevent the existence of monopolies, xe underestimated brand loyalty.

Always pleasantly impressed by how good the game looks for how little resources it takes.

I'd gladly pay a couple bucks to avoid dealing with Epic's bullshit. The only games I have ever bought on Epic were games that Epic published, if you publish the game put it on whatever platform you want. Intentionally splitting the community so you can make some easy money is bad for the industry.

Hirschfelden is aesthetically my favorite. Too bad hunting on it sucks so much.

I prefer only playing and having all games in one place, poorcels are the only ones playing it shamelessly on epic instead of buying it on steam -80% off
