Diablo Immortal is the first MMO I ever got invested in honestly but people keep telling me it's shit.

Runescape is full of pride crap.

What should I be playing instead? I was thinking about Albion.

The one that has cats and makes boomers seethe to no end

I found Albion a little bit slow and boring compared to Diablo, but the global chat is pretty based, never saw so much explicit racism outside of CSGO

What are your thoughts on Diablo Immortal? I do agree it gets repetitive, but Diablo 3 has a similar style. I'm Paragon 26 and I like the game but I keep hearing about how pay to win it is the end.

Crossplay with console or mobile is a big plus for me, because I'm on a PC all day at work, it kind of gets old, so I was thinking of giving Final Fantasy XIV (gay troony game) or Albion (shitty Runescape clone) a go.

Didn't try Diablo Immortal yet, so i can't say.
I tried FF14 twice and got bored of the gameplay, there are so many real time action MMOs out there, FF feels extremely dated after trying them.
The story is kinda weebish and interacting with the community is like walking on eggs.
At least i can spam racial and transphobic slurs in Albion and no one would care.

I'll have them both a go then. I forgot about the FF14 free trial meme.

I know Immortal kinda stops loading characters in the open areas after 15 in an area, but does that not make it an MMO? How is Runescape not an MMO?

    none

play private servers if you want a good experience. modern games are a pale shadow of what the genre once was and don't even incorporate the 'multiplayer' aspect, as you're churned through dungeons with deaf-mutes who you'll never see again.

the only relatively recent game I can think of that fostered a community was EVE, and that's circling the drain.

You don't really have a lot of official choices.

XIV is probably the best WoW-style MMO out right now that still has an official server going, it specifically sets out to be as streamlined as it can and thus is easy to play through and do content in. WoW is a pale shadow of itself. Neither one are really that interesting, but they're serviceable if you want to scratch that itch.

EVE Online gives a unique experience you can't get anywhere else, but the playerbase wants to hunt you down and make your life miserable unless you find people to take you under their wing, which usually involves some this for that. The gameplay in it isn't very exciting on its face, but it has unique situations and meta which make up for it.

There's a whole host of pseudo-MMOs like Ark and Rust, all of which have a similar problem to EVE's playerbase but allow you to get started faster with less deep systems. Beyond that, offical live MMOs are dead, but there's a lot of private servers for old MMOs.

Not really. If you didn't grow up with any of them, none of them got any better. Most of us still playing are just addicted to the game type damned to our game of choice until the servers shut down.

I'm playing DAoC again. Classic freeshard. It's still super fun. Would be hard going for someone who's never played it before though. It's very oldschool

    Literally fricking none.
Play a private server of an old MMO, the current ones are so much worse than the classics it's honestly unbelievable.
