here's the thing, why do you need that? At the end of the day, art and information should be free, unchained by the concept of "ownership".
Put aside the actual intent of hbomberguy for a moment and take a look at what the video is actually doing. It's reinforcing the idea that information is "owned" by someone, that people not only deserve to be recognized as the proprietary of ideas and that you should not only respect that ownership but that they are entitled to money for being the owners of such information.

It was simply on the coattails of the resurfacing argument pertaining to people reacting to content and providing their 'transformative' reactions. It might have been a bit late to ride the wave, but if hbomberguy is heralded as the guy with opinions that people seem to enjoy generally then it makes sense that his video took off since it's working to remind people of the thing they woefully forgot after two weeks (just like everything drama related on the internet). Then people share it around because he did the usual switch up in his video that creates an element of drama that people lap up like dogs. It's just a really good video to capture the attention span of the dedicated online users that need any ounce of a 'highly regarded' youtuber's opinion on copyright infringement. Especially since so many of them care about this system so much despite not being youtubers themselves. The video largely did nothing anyway. The system will still remain the way it was, maybe now more people will be willing to call out blatant infringement, but I don't see there being an agenda pushed aside from it being a youtuber that hates when people put the bare minimum in their 'transformative' content. If anything every example he pointed out was the kind of middle school level stuff that should be punished since it's so blatantly offensive to believe someone could be that bad at paraphrasing.

One of the things Mauler grilled him on was that Hbomberguy never actually pointed out any of the actual improvements DS2 made over the original. He didn't mention Bonfire Ascetics, or the improved multiplayer. He certainly didn't praise the better variety in builds available to the player (and instead spent a big chunk of his video insinuating that playing anything other than a pure 2H STR build was playing incorrectly). Mauler doesn't even like DS2 but was able to do a much better job defending its merits than HBG did.

What's funny to me is that if you actually try to USE the wooden plank shield in Bloodborne, it's far from useless. You can't use it to tank big hits like you can in the Souls games, but getting hit while the shield's raised will make way more of your damage rallyable and will reduce your stagger frames, making it much easier to trade hits. Plus, it completely blocks anything that counts as gunfire, making it a surprising way to trivialize certain encounters like that npc hunter outside of Amelia's church who spams gunfire, or even Martyr Logarius. Taking that into consideration, the description that "shields are nice as long as they don't engender passivity" reads less like a joke and more like a tip for how you're supposed to use it in the game- a way to safely counter-attack rather than a way to avoid damage entirely.
His whole SHIELDS BAD ideology is rooted in a misconception.
The shield is also pretty gud at blocking Frenzy buildup from the Winter Lanterns and Menis' brain.
I'd take this even further and mention how From has done nothing but make blocking and shields more valuable, fun, and useful over the course of their games. They added the door shield in DS3. Sekiro is literally about blocking everything. Shields are fantastic in ER and the turtle playstyle has never been more fleshed out.

I like too many weapons in Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3+Elden Ring do not scratch the itch.
I feel that most of the weapons in DS2 felt like they had no weight behind them. Sure, playing a STR build was far more fun than playing one in Elden Ring but I can agree that the weapons were better compared to Dark Souls 3 where you might as well just have a nice day if you use anything outside of a longsword.
