The magic of actual positioning and choosing good skill combos has entirely vanished in the endgame where all you do is spam your highest attack, chug potions, and be healed where you can’t see anything that’s going on because of the visual explosion of numbers.
Hopping between platforms to shoot slimes with crossbows while talking with friends was magical. Everything after that was an abomination.
i won't pretend zakum and horntail were actually much better in that regard, hell the fact that stupid things like "regen more HP on ladders" is gone from warrior is a good argument for fake complexity and roping you into cash-shop skill resets

maplestory has been dead for a long time. they ruined the fun of it a long time ago and strung their overarching story so long and few and far inbetween that i am just turning my brain off and drooling at the numbers now. i miss when maplestory meant something, when i could make fun of stupid kids in hennesys who thought their attacks could deal damage to me, when i could grind out with my friends, when i could always meet someone new and always experience something new everytime i played, when i could haggle people in the free market. now its a barren wasteland of a few silent nobodies who dont care to enjoy the game, a game thats been fricked silly by flashy epileptic class abilities and an amount of daily quests that make you feel demented. maplestory does not exist anymore.

I came back to it a year ago when they revamped explorers after having not played it since around whenever big bang was and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The game has a lot of wonderful content now if you can stomach the gear grind and just give it a chance.

Why would I bother playing a game called "old school runescape" that no longer has any resemblance of fricking old school. Not to mention the playerbase who would hastily give up on the game if they don't get a new end-game toy to play with. Be it a new raid or skill that makes the game even more unrecognizable than it already is

Another reason why the game is dying, you people dont know a good update when you see it. Most slayer bosses offer very minimal upgrades but still managed to revitalize the entire skill. Compare that to Nex or Nightmare where they just plopped a frick ton of BiS upgrades into content nobody gives a shit about. Only letting people who played the game before 2020 would filter out so many fricktards

mate... the problem is that nobody wants to socialize in an MMO like they used to in the old days. Back in the heyday of MMOs, people took joy in being given an opportunity to make their own virtual character and shoot the shit with others in an MMO in between fighting monsters and doing quests and all that jazz. Back then people were yearning to connect with one another like this, and open to talk to randoms. Now everybody is on the Internet at all times and all that connection has perhaps become tiring. People seem to rather want to hang out in their own smaller groups on discord rather than communicate and meet ingame. MMOs are nothing without a community, and there is little in the way of a community if people want to stick to smaller groups on a third party platform, staying silent in game.
Frick off Nostalgiatard modern MMO's just suck plain and simple.
You can go play a private server with an older build or whatever if you're so certain. I tried doing that and it just wasn't the same without the community. Maybe you don't feel that way, more power to you then. But MMOs were always primarily a social experience for me.
