Am I a pleb. Been playing diablo 2 for the first time and up to Act 4, and got to say its fricking tedious. Not getting any decent loot, and can really only take 2 at a time, as inventory full of potions and charms.
Decided to start up diablo 3 again after many years, and its just so much more fun and polished. Plus theres much more inventory, no need to store mana/heal potions ridiculously.
Why would anybody go back to D2r when there is 3?

because D3 is fricking shit
apparently the story of d3 is shit, but diablo 2 barely had a fricking story. it was sprawls of boring text
diablo 3 basically seems like what one would expect. a bigger better diablo 2, which 15 years of technology would account for
the itemization in D3 alone makes it fricking garbage. the skills are fricking abysmal and lifeless
skills seem lifeless? in d2 its just putting skill points in firebolt, fireball and meteor 20 times each
if you are playing singleplayer then you need to go out to your garage and tie a knot with some rope, and kick the chair out from under you

Then what am I missing. I'm a sorcerer. level 29. I thought the game would open up once i got meteor ,but that spell is far too slow and inaccurate to be unuseable (i'm playing on PS5 btw)
if you dont like it, respec into ice orb, or even chain lightning
there's only 1 respec, which I used as I didn't know it was limited
Install plugY if you are playing sp. Increases stash, creates shared stash and allows free respecs.
Geez, getting filtered in normal, that's so sad. Go do some Countess runs, get runes, make Stealth, Leaf and Lore, breeze through the rest of normal and most of nightmare (even if fire is the first to encounter annoying immunities)
I bet my balls 4/5 charms you have are utter crap and can be tossed away, also did you get the 4 rows belt?

Yes, you are. But that's ok. Most modern games are designed for people like you in mind.
It's like saying Overwatch is better than Doom. Completely different games at the end of the day, even if both are technically in the same FPS genre. I jumped into the new season in D3 and had fun for like 4 days, it's not a bad game, but you can't just compare those two.
The damn purist crybabies ruined d2r before it even came out
They would have made it more like Diablo 3 with tons of qol improvements and hyper loot but with d2 art and skills and items if not for purist tears
No need to go full out like that, and they are already doing small interesting changes with new updates now, like new runewords, skill changes, terror zones and sundering charms (which might actually cause more harm to the balance of the game, sadly, since instead of enabling more builds they might end up just making a couple of leading builds stronger)

If you picked a melee character as your first than you fricked up.
Always go caster or summoner for first runs.
