If D4 is actually good on release, you should fricking pray that Blizzard never makes any changes, because they are guaranteed to make the game significantly worse. See Overwatch or World of Warcraft as a case study in how a Blizzard live service game looks.
That is literally a lie though. D2 has always had around 20-30k concurrent players each new ladder season, while D3 was actually dead with sub 5k player counts. Also, let's not forget that in 2004 and 2005, WoW released worldwide, which at the time was a huge cultural phenomenon that pretty much every fan of Blizzard games was playing.

The actual issue with the battlepass is that you are being mindfricked into spending real money on the cosmetic portions of the game because you need to look at it in order to get the rewards from the free track. If you falter, you might just buy cosmetic shit you wouldn't had otherwise because the advertisements for these are things you are forced to view.
Outside of this, the game does look fun but that element alone puts me off on investing too much of my time on it.

It is its own reward if you obtained powerful items via trading or looting from dungeons/monsters. Your character has become powerful and now he also looks the part. The actual issue with the battlepass is that you are being mindfricked into spending real money on the cosmetic portions of the game because you need to look at it in order to get the rewards from the free track. If you falter, you might just buy cosmetic shit you wouldn't had otherwise because the advertisements for these are things you are forced to view.
Outside of this, the game does look fun but that element alone puts me off on investing too much of my time on it.
