It’s still running anon, and has a surprisingly active playerbase. I got back in recently, and thanks to Zhitan Elites (PVE PvP) I now have all non-elite skills unlocked and am working on the elites through Balthazar points from ZE and capturing signets.
It’s funny really, my favorite classes were the worst at the time (Paragon and Dervish), but now thanks to game changes and revamping the classes, especially Dervish, the Paragon is King and Dervish Queen, and what’s best, new skills got added 3 years ago (GW 15th anniversary), and some of them change the ways their respective classes play, such as the dervish being able to have a massive amount of energy regeneration so long as they cast, non-dervish skills, whereas the paragon has a new chant/shout that raises all attributes by +5, and if you have leader ship, maxed out, you can cast it again before the timer runs out and get like +8 to all attribute, and yes, that also means for your party. The only drawback the new anniversary skills are PvE only, and so only human players can use them.
Seriously anon, check it out, they added a guild wars 1 online store, nothing compared to what you see in modern games, one of the things is mercenary slots, that’s you creating a character and then turning them into recruitable heroes, so if you want it, you could have a party of eight Necromancers now, with eight flesh golems, or a party of all dervishes, all in avatar forms. Games never been better from a PvE aspect, though not all is golden rays of sunshine, my favorite thing about guild wars, random arena, is for all intents and purposes dead, outside of like 4 to 6 hours on the weekend and even then you don’t instantly get into a match every few minutes.
yeah, even had some of their Dervs work on it, seems the old guard moved on to either working on WoW, or moved to/started new companies to create Guild Wars and I think Titan Quest, I know there was a 3rd game some worked on, I just can’t remember which exactly it is at the moment. What a sad irony that just as how D2 was sacrificed for WoW and D3, so too was GW offered up to the alter of MMO’s for GW2. Still hurts knowing we shall never get those Expansions into not-Aztecia with artificers and summoners, nor the other two that would have followed suit, taking place in not-India and not-Greenland(Eskimoland).
