Because to some people, it really doesn't matter. I don't care about the story at all in these types of games, I am just gonna play through it once for the mandatory run while skipping every cutscene and ignoring every piece of text and conversation, and then never touch the story/campaign again.
Story in an ARPG just feels like a filler that's there to satisfy the casual audience. If I wanted to play a game with a story, I'd go play a good story-driven game, which is definitely not what Blizzard produces.

I liked the story in D1, it was tight and simple and worked perfectly together with the environment - dark and unsettling with only a torchlight to show the way. In D2 I ignored the story after act 1 because it didn't make much sense and was all over the place in theme, setting, and environment.
Some games have riveting stories that pull you in, like Bioshock and Fallen God for me, and in those games the story really matters. But most games suck at story, and as such only gameplay loops matter. For 95% of games, I'd say go watch a movie or read a book if you want story, play a game if you want satisfying mechanics.
But that's just me - story, graphics, and mechanics, are around because in the end every player cares about at least one of them.

Played the closed beta it was fine, good even. The battle pass shit does worry me. They have a good game but they can easily frick things up.

Can someone explain to me the thought process of the collector's edition not coming with the game. I don't understand this logic. What are digital codes. You don't have to make different version. You have a steelbook with a disc inside for ps and xbox. You use the same steelbook. They only thing different would be the disk inside. Push comes to shove, you don't have a disk at all and just have a code for a digital download. I truly don't get it. All I keep reading it people saying that it saves money on different version which again makes no sense to me.
The game is going to be a "games as a service" type of game. There's literally no point in providing a game disk when there's going to be like a 50gb day 1 patch, followed by constant hotfixes, followed by every season changing things constantly every 3 months.

It's basically like a "leveling" system where you play the game to grow a bar for levels. Each level or milestone you reach, there's unlocks. Depending on the game it can be anything from just cosmetics to unlocking characters/weapons/powers/etc. Some battle passes also gives you certain missions/quests you can complete to speed up the process a little bit.
And then there's the nefarious part where a lot of battle passes give you the ability to pay real money to skip the grinding and just unlock everything immediately.
D4 will have a free and a paid battle pass, but both will only contain cosmetics like mounts/armor skins/wings/pets/glow effects/teleport effects/spell effects/etc. so there's no actual pay2win elements.
Blizzard has like 3 IPs of note and I only play Diablo occasionally. Why would I be familiar with a battle pass?

I'm not convinced Diablo should have rape in it but for different reasons than most people. I am not sure there is a metaphysical basis for rape in Diablo. Diablo certainly has lust and perversion in it but as divinely created beings you can make the case humans weren't designed with the dimension of rape within them to any noticeable degree. It might exist occasionally as a rare oddity but not a regular facet of life, since the pressures for reproduction on Sanctuary are different from those of Earth.
