Its a battle pass with cosmetics. Not the entire game. It won't have the depth of POE but its going to still have alot of grinding time if you enjoy the combat

Imagine putting in two full work weeks into a game on a monthly basis just so you avoid feeling FOMO
That's half of your month dedicated to a single game.

My mistake. It's been so long since I played a game with a battle pass i forgot that they're typically 90 days long. Dont know why I assumed they only last for a month.

The main issue is that battle passes are time-limited. It's like buying a DLC and having a limited amount of time to get everything you can from it, because the devs will remove it from the game even if you paid cash to access the "premium" rewards.
It's a non-issue if you are already blindly addicted to the game, but it still is a stupid monetization model.

D4 is trying to be an MMO so it wants to be your forever game. In that case 80 hours isn't much but if you play it casually you will probably have a hard time completing it.

Depends on how long the season is. If it's really short you're going to be playing a lot in a short amount of time to complete it, but if it's really long then you'll have plenty of time in the long run. Overwatch's seasons have been 3 months so if it's anything like that you can easily do 80 hours of playtime in 3 months, but you won't have much time for anything else.

It's 80 hours over 3 months. Less than 1 hour per day averaged out. This is not news and is yet more Ganker barrel scraping for things to cry about.

Depends on how long the season is.
      If it's a a year long then 80 hours isn't bad.
If it's 2-3 months, then it's too fricking long. That's like 10 hours of gametime a day.

well yes, because it's standard for games with battle passes, including those in existing Blizzard games, and nothing has indicated Blizzard is doing anything particularly different for D4.
                >If you can't complete an 80 hour battle pass in the span of 3 months, then you're probably an extremely casual player. Like below actual dad-gamer tier.
If you play Diablo 4 for an hour every single day, it'll take you nearly the entire 3 month span to complete the battle pass. And I don't know about you, but I typically play more than one game in a three month span, plus whatever real-world obligations I might have. And this doesn't even account for the very high possibility that battle pass point gain will be severely reduced after completing your daily/weekly challenges, that will themselves be very likely be designed to take about an hour.

These things are very carefully designed not to make the game more fun, but to push you towards spending money on the game (or more money, in this case).

the timer will likely be much longer in the full release
                >So you're just assuming that this will also have that, for whatever reason.
well yes, because it's standard for games with battle passes, including those in existing Blizzard games, and nothing has indicated Blizzard is doing anything particularly different for D4.

These things are very carefully designed not to make the game more fun, but to push you towards spending money on the game (or more money, in this case).

                >the timer will likely be much longer in the full release
                cool more speculation
                >well yes, because it's standard for games with battle passes, including those in existing Blizzard games

D3s season journey doesnt require any sort of dailies

I know that zoomer like you can have trouble remembering but somewhere in the past they were just making expansions if the game was successful which was win win
            >dev can use same engine(which requires less work) and just make more content to sell it for often 2/3 of base game price
            >people who really liked the game can buy expansion to get some more but people who had their fill already had full game because it was mandatory back then
This model was profitable with far less people playing games, harder time to sell(physical stores, reaching out to other countries to get to sell them, big margins of shops), they just got so fricking greedy it is unreal
I would say that in the age of digital releases closest to that were Witcher 3 borderlands, and monster hunter rise/world since both of their passes offered fair amount of content for the price and weren't necessary to have for game to fell complete(albeit mh lacks endgame grinds without expansions)

Weird, I was playing the open beta by myself and having a pretty good time with it. Only time I joined up was with the world boss, and that was a hoot, too.
Too many players fly through these games, skipping every quest log, dialogue box/tree and not even enjoying the scenery, work and love that goes into these games.
Seems silly, since the actual grindfest itself they are rushing to is completely dildos in comparison to the adventure.

All Battlepasses are that way. 2K keeps trying to force them. You progress "quickly" at first, then there is a massive dropoff in rewards vs time invested.

Even then, if you are a casual, you could play for 160 hours and still get nowhere without daily check-ins...which is probably why Microsoft is involved.

The key difference for me is one is on a time limit and the other is not. If I can put in the 200 hours at my own pace and take breaks however long I want and pick right back up where I left off, that's fine. If I have to pump in 80 hours in a limited time frame because the developers said so then frick off. the worst part is how normalized this whole bullshit is. You get people thinking that buying a battlepass and then spending $150 to complete it day1 is "just spending money they have" and is fine and shouldn't be criticized, when that's a ludicrous amount of money to spend on a game on a bi-monthly basis

Companies have invested millions and millions in reasearch to maximize addictive tendencies for players in their game. You have two options: blame the people abusing human nature/weakness or the people themselves. I think both are accountable but the drug dealer is usually worse IMO. When you profit from something, you're alwys more to blame imo

in a scam the criminal is always the scammer for a reason. you can call the victim a moron all you want, but the one that should be punished is the one that exploits

Up until very recently every single game ever made was released as a completed, finished product right from the start and the only "content" updates came in the form of lengthy expansion packs while any regular updates were just stability patches
This is because the value proposition by game developers was based on making the best game possible, and competing with other companies by making a better game. Now, thanks to people like you, video games are skinner boxes and just covers for storefronts that manipulate pattern seeking behavior

Do you watch a movie and get upset that the movie doesn't have new 1-2 minute additions tacked on to the end every few weeks to make rewatching it more fun? Do you buy a car and only like driving it if the dashboard gets a new cosmetic update every now and then?

          >That's what people who actually play games want
No, what we want are GAMES. What YOU want is an online store because you don't get your dopamine rush from the actual gameplay you get it from the novelty of trivial, useless shit like cosmetics and number modifiers. Anyone who actually likes arpgs can boot up diablo 2 right now and play for hours despite the fact that game hasn't been updated for over a decade and will be the same as the last 50 times they played it you fricking ingrate AAAAHHH

Ya'll are the most trigger happy Black folk in the world. Calling out wokeness and all other sorts of homosexualry yet can't be bothered to read more than a simple screen shot the gay, op, posts.

    > "Right now, the battle pass, when you're figuring in completing the season journey alongside doing other content in the game, you're looking at roughly 80 hours worth of time invested to complete the entirety of the battle pass. To level a character to level 100 could take a little longer than that based on how you play," Piepiora said.

    > He said it's likely that you'll finish the battle pass before you reach the max level each season, which follows a broader philosophy of letting players get what they want out of the game and move on if they'd like.

In short for you autistic morons: This battle pass is optional, contains cosmetics purely, and its completion focuses on the seasonal journey that Diablo 3 currently follows which is aimed to be completed before you the in game level cap 100 and proceed to paragon leveling.

does it expire at the end of the season? Does it have stacking challenges you can complete for big bumps in exp like destiny 2? Do the rewards filter into an in-game shop you can sink in-game gold into to re-aquire them later? There's so many ways to do a battlepass these days and depending on how they handle them is how I decide if a game is worth my time at all.

if ow2 is any indication the challenges do not stack and there will be no premium currency in it so you can never accumulate any by playing.

All the while morons on forums will go "oh it's only 10-15 bucks, that's not much", when the reality is that a big number of players end up paying more because they need more levels to get the last rewards since they couldn't play for one week in the 3 month season.

it's a slotmachine simulator game. Why would you even need any explanation? Spending more than 40 hours on Diablo is basically mental illness because its the exact same thing on loop for hundreds of hours to get a perfect ancient affix weapon so you can do the exact same grinding 10% faster. Oh its been 3 months? Time to archive your character and start over. If there weren't any rare drops to be found there would be no reason to play at all. You're not playing because the GAME is good you're playing because after the first decent 10-20 hours your dopamine starved brain gets into habits, logging in, daily quests, daily rewards, reward tracks, infernal points

Just like all their other battle pass games? What is everyone freaking out for, this is quite the industry standard for most passes now aday.

Live service isn't inherently a bad thing though. Fortnite is a live service and it's insanely popular and profitable. Destiny as well. The problem is games that release unfinished and then try to push live service models. Which is why that as long as the game releases finished then I have no issue with live service and from everything I've seen from the beta, the players are in good hands.

That makes Raids Shadow Legends an amazing game then

the only live service game that didn't piss me off in zero seconds was deep rock. and only because save editing to complete the pass is easy as frick

If anything, Blizzard is actually going above and beyond this time. There will be the free battle pass for everyone, that has all the important stuff and that you can't pay to skip. And then there's the paid battle pass which is ONLY cosmetics.

I don't know if Blizzard got burned recently or something, but their long-term monetization for D4 seems fairly reasonable, assuming that they of course can provide those big updates with every new season.

Free battle passes with an optional paid battle pass is an industry standard, though

Oh is it? Most games I have played only just had a paid one and nothing else.

yeah, they give you the free battle pass, then put all the good shit on the paid battle pass, and make progression faster once you pay. Basic FOMO manipulation stuff.

Oh right, now that you say that I am aware. I have seen those "HERE'S WHAT YOU _COULD_ HAVE UNLOCKED, IF YOU WEREN'T A SCRUB" battle passes that run above the F2P one.

It's not even an amusement park. The core gameplay is incredibly boring after the first 10 hours and you're just slaving away speedrunning the same 3 dungeons 5000x to "earn" your next item upgrade

I've only played Diablo Immortal, and I did enjoy it, but what made me stop playing was how "jobby" it is. Be there at 6pm for vaults, be there at 8pm on Saturday for the battle, etc.

Seems like the next game will be like that as well.

I know Immortal ruined the series, but 4 just seems liked Immortal stretched out, and it's "good"?

We'll have to wait and see. Blizz always says these things in the perspective of super casual players, so it might be possible to finish the journey in 50 hours (or even 40) if you know what you're doing.

I will wait until the game is 20 dollars. I will only play through the main quest and not engage in any FOMO content or "endgame" treadmill grinding. Simple as.

pretty normal, maybe a bit long but not more than 20% of industry standards
what bugs me is they will also sell expansion packs, I like season passes if they serve as a means to provide free main content for the game but not if the game has
    >micro transactions
    >on top of season passes
    >on top of expansion packs
    >on top of a fricking 70 USD base fee

its like they implemented everything they could

Why are they turning games into second jobs for people now? It's should only be lengthy if you are getting a variety fo gameplay and worlds to explore for it. If it's grindy, length is the mind killer to slog through such a thing.

This game is nothing like D2 and battle passes didn't really exist as a concept back then. How old is this "old Ganker" you're referring to? 2017? 2007?

no they wouldn't. is this a bot?

        >no they wouldn't. is this a bot?
You'd have to be fricking crazy to not think that people playing D2 back in the day would have loved to get big PoE-like updates to D2 every 3 months, in exchange for $10. Are you completely unaware of how much the entire D2 community complained about Blizzard's lack of updates, and how many people in the D2 community were selling/buying items? $10 would have been absolutely chump change.

          >Dishonest.
I played the beta and it felt like grim dark Diablo 3 plopped into an extremely generic and repetitive open world. Both Diablo 2 and Diablo 4 share the name Diablo so I guess they're related in that way. You do click monsters in both of them and you do level up. Only one of them ships with Diablo the character in it unfortunately. Hopefully there will be a battlepass for him in the future.
