I tend to dislike game music because it's often bland and cheap in your face le ebin shit but Diablo 4 is one of the rare games where I pause and listen because the ambient is just right. Fighting Ashava was also on point, it was le ebin but in the right way.

I know Lilith has been being really cruel with the execution of her plan, but she genuinely care for the survival of the human race. Why can't they at least give us some more dialogue option when confronting her instead of just having the MC say "no" at every fricking chance?

What they should have done is shown Inarius and Lilith to be aligned together and that they were banished simultaneously in the past. Someone releases Lilith; and in response The Light assigns the PC on quests to release Inarius thinking that he could save them but the reality is, he wants the same thing as Lilith and instead of fighting her they are allied. That's the first twist.
The second twist is that the PC is sent to kill both of them, and the mistake there is that neither of them are opposed to humanity, they are in fact trying to protect humanity but the PC is baited by Mephisto to kill them.

I saw a gameplay stream capture and I am quite comfortable in saying that, for the first time, I find myself completely disinterested in a new diablo. If the game was solved in beta, before lv 100 was even supposed to be possible, I can read character info pages and play a game in my head. No need to pay for this shit. The end game in Diablo 2 is farming. That's why you always tried to min max how much MF% you can find on your gear while still having enough damage and FCR to comfortably clear TC85 areas. It's archaic now, but it was fun for it's time.

Diablo 4 is the same thing, except instead of sets, the damage multipliers are put into legendary aspects.

FFXIV cultists made a great job gaslighting the whole board into think Blizzard cannot make another good game again. Have been playing the game and I think it's pretty good.
It doesn't look too bad, but not $100 good lol. I would have gladly spent that money if they brought something revolutionary or at least maintained high production values all the way through. The game looks like it just runs on fumes by the end and has very little class diversity, and dungeon/boss design.
It was in the cooker for so long, and comes up with nothing to impress.
As someone who bought the $100 edition, you're right. I will say though that it's very much close to a $70 worth.
The classes are diverse, as diverse as they've ever been, The actual lore-based dungeons are unironically better than Diablo 2's, and the main storyline isn't half bad actually .
My biggest gripe with Diablo 2 was that I always took way too long to actually get started, the main plot really doesn't start until halfway through act 3 and then you still have to deal with all the shitty things like randomly generated maps and randomly generated dungeons and all that fun bullshit that was impressive at the time but makes replaying it a chore.
The game runs just fine so long as it's the only thing running, at least my experience with a 3080. I have to literally crash wallpaper engine and everything else that's running in the background because if I don't I get about 12 FPS.
I'll be honest, I liked it as a kid but I was an adult replaying Diablo 2 makes me want to kill myself. Especially if I try to do it with friends and my entire map disappears each time that log off or get disconnected.
I can safely say that an act one alone I enjoyed the dungeons more than I enjoyed any Dungeon in particular aside from the endgame dungeons of Diablo 2.
The problem is that it's a $70-100 game with a full blown gacha cash shop and paid quarterly battle passes. Gaymers are fricking moronic and enable this bullshit. It would be like if Fortnight,Apex, Genshin, etc... cost $60+...but since blizzard troonys are the ones shitting it out its A-OKAY
Yeah I didn't mention the cash shop. That does deserve a full mention, but as far as I can tell it's all cosmetics and so I'm not too upset about it. Especially because you can get a ton of different cosmetics in the game and transmogrification is free it's not a deal breaker to me but I can see why others might be upset.
For now, it is still content that they are selling to you piecemeal instead of including it in the full price+ game you just bought. It's pretty much a given the best looking skins in the game will be locked behind the cash shop...I doubt hardly anything free will rival how good the paid items look, if you thing about it, they can't, otherwise people wouldn't pay for it. It's fricking cancer.

I was going to ignore this one too but I always liked the lore of Diablo so I played the beta, had a good time. Then played the next beta and found it to be worth preordering. So I did.

I am still interested in the game, but I will wait until it gets expansions and other shit released. D4 is guaranteed to repeat the development path of D3, if goblin israelite Bobby doesn't pull the plug on it.
Animations and environment look really cool, so does the intially dull gameplay after around level 50.
My problem is that it has no class that interests me. I don't care about any of those characters and class fantasy. I liked monk and Crusader in d3. I would have played something new as well. It is really embarassing how after a decade+, the game is still so barbones, and Blizzard acts as if it still was an unrivaled competitor.

Just finished the story. I think it's pretty good so far. Haven't painted my room in Diablo colours and kind of regret buying the deluxe edition, but it's been pretty fun so far. Story was better than I thought, but I hated that your character was voiced and that you were forced to be a beta good guy who is strong because he has friends. The game literally needs one dialogue and that's "Evil beware" the first time you step out into the world.

You have to be more specific. If you like character building and interesting items then go for PoE. D4 is very boring in that regard but looks much nicer, with the exception of the particle effects. Apart from that they're both solid ARPGs.
D4 is not a bad game in my opinion but I don't think the replay value is huge. I would be very surprised if it has the staying power of D2 or PoE but we'll see.

That's what most MMO look like these days, so I don't see your point. MMO are now designed to be online RPG first, giving you the feeling of being in a larger world. The best MMO is Guild Wars 1, and it's exactly that.
"At this level I get about one replacement gear per week. That's a pretty good replacement rate." as a streamer said. That's when it clicked for me that arpgs isn't for me, when all it is is grinding for the sake of grinding.
I've been enjoying it but there is a major issue I've noticed.
The game scales content to your level, and encourages you to do as much content as you can to raise your level.
However, the game does NOT scale gear rewards to your level, instead giving your gear at a level based on what level you SHOULD be doing the content.
So you wind up overleveled but wearing gear meant for characters at a much lower level than you, doing content at your current level. This creates a sort of difficulty that shouldn't really exist.
Currently I'm semi-softlocked at an early boss because I'm level 20 but all my gear is level 15 at MAX. Many of the bosses attacks kill instantly.

This is beyond bad. It means they couldn't be bothered to balance anything, design boss damage with life to set points for the player to overcome. The one fricking thing every game developer should avoid is creating damage sponges; artificial difficulty, and that's what they created here. It shouldn't fricking matter if good players overachieve and trivialize bosses, that's a reward to them; shit players will struggle anyways if you set the numbers right. But this way it's a slog for everyone. Same is true of gear durability, it should be fricking gone universally. Zelda having that shit is awful and it's awful here.
I didn't play Diablo 3. But seeing this shit in Diablo 4, it's just fricking infuriating.
It doesn't mean they can bypass balancing, that isn't why they do it. Each level and class has to be balanced together to the point where it takes more time to get "right" than a traditional scaling format.
They do it because accessibility. They want your stupid potato ass to be able to turn your playosphere on and mash buttons to see bing bing bigger numbers with all your short bus friends until you decide to go to bed. They are afraid of you having to think at any level because that will scare off their target market.
The better way is level downscaling. It preserves the overworld progression for solo players, and allows natural progression for low level players when a high level player parties with them. It also avoids the exploitative nature of a high level player running low tier content over and over again for easy wins since everything is scaled to a mediocre difficulty. It's completely moronic to do level scaling and it's absolutely pathetic that you are trying to justify it
I'm sorry but I don't understand what point you're trying to make here. Scaling content isn't accessible, it's a slog because it's never done right and so you're Dark Souls shield strafing until the boss inevitably falls over and that becomes the dominant if not the only strategy because lining up a surgical hit is just far too risky. If they wanted to serve players who want to see big numbers, traditional scaling can provide exactly that.
I can't imagine any target market wants damage sponges. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't game enough, but damage sponges aren't fricking okay to me, they're a crime. And it's a testament to how low standards have fallen if players are just willing to let that lazy shit slide.
Most enemies are scaled to your level, up or down, up to level 50 before WT 3. If you're having a real shit time progressing, its due to balance, your build (which, this game was designed around basically 0 build diversity so if you pick a build that isn't obvious from the onset you probably are objectively weaker), and/or you wearing underleveled gear. This is honestly a bigger influence than most people realize; when you level up you effectively become weaker. You have to equip level-appropriate gear to get back to where you just were.
The scaling works in opposition to damage sponges, not to create them. They want your level 3 friend to join you and still be able to kill things, and for you to join him and not just cheese the boss. As long as you keep clicking drops that have more bigger number (and don't try to get, god forbid, creative with your build) you will not have a problem.
And to make it clear: I hate this system with every fiber of my being. It forgoes a practical sense of progression, punishes creativit,y and streamlines builds to the point where it doesn't even offer what RPGs were made to offer.

I'm sorry if I don't know anything here but I haven't touched anything since SC2 and I haven't played an MMORPG for over 20 years. What kind of fricking morons work in this industry to think this is how single-player games should be made. Like is it actually the people who come from fricking gambling game design applying their evil fricking methods to regular game design. These fricking developers need to be asked what fricking games they enjoy playing at Blizzcon. They have to be put at gunpoint to explain their inspirations and they can't be let off the hook if they name a game, they have to SAY something that makes them sound like an expert.

The one fricking thing every game developer should avoid is creating damage sponges; artificial difficulty, and that's what they created here. It shouldn't fricking matter if good players overachieve and trivialize bosses, that's a reward to them; shit players will struggle anyways if you set the numbers right. But this way it's a slog for everyone. Same is true of gear durability, it should be fricking gone universally. Zelda having that shit is awful and it's awful here.

It's probably a game issue, most skills fricking suck without legendary aspects and if you are getting fricked on drops that is pretty much all it takes. Might have to respec to a skill that isn't quite as gimped without leg aspects. I had to do that in the beta.

I think most people will genuinely enjoy it. The gameplay is fun, the story is pretty good, the visuals are very good, pretty decent game honestly. I have a bit of a hard time figuring out what people might not like about it, I guess at the biggest thing that comes to mind is the fact that might be easier than Diablo II was but on the same hand it's way harder than Diablo 3 ever was and of the amount of class customization that you get is also more close to D2 than D3.
That's not true at all. I'm playing a necromancer right now and I have several shields thatve dropped that I could equip. I chose not to equip them because I could just use a two-handed weapon and discard them for mats instead.
But if you want to play with a one-handed weapon and a shield that's totally up to you.

Honestly though, Shields suck. I played as necro during beta and used a shield during that but ended up finding out that despite having a slower swing speed than a one-handed weapon with a shield two-handed sides was just the ultimate way to go with the Necro.

I really hate this. Like it implies that both Lilith and Mephisto magically induce Hatred, and that Mephisto shielded the PC from feeling Hatred so they could fight Lilith. But if that's the case, then why the frick would Lilith use Hatred at all to spur the forces of Sanctuary to fight Hell (and later Heaven). I mean wouldn't it make more sense to recruit the pre-existing civilized empires and structures to fight that fight and use diplomacy to do it and also differently recruit from the death cults and such the "traditional" Hell way. It's the same fricking problem as Starcraft 2, if Kerrigan's goal was to fight Space-God, then why the frick would she wipe out the fricking majority of the Dominion military.

Not him but Headhunter was nerfed so fricking hard in being able to provide immortality that Mageblood is good. Before they nuked Headhunter's mods stacking and reduced monster Rares you could not only achieve defences with Headhunter but also big damage. Now it's only big damage; but it was truly the defences (and stacking move speed) that mattered on Headhunter from the beginning. Without the defences, Mageblood is a good item but if they had not nerfed Headhunter so drastically, Mageblood would be strictly a boss-only item.
I'm not saying Mageblood is bad, but it's only as good as it is now because they broke Headhunter's legs.
There are some shadow spells like that (Blight), but they're more of support skills for minions than for damage.
Poison just isn't a thing for necro in D4.

It's OK. Tries to be like all of the ARPGs in one so it feels weird. Some things are fun though. Fair bit of uniques = build if you're into that itemization, and skills can be made to support it.
Like if you get a frost damage focused unique, you can most likely just change all of the fire abilities you enjoy into frost damage.
I torrented diablo 2 have and been playing it in single player. Reached act 3. It's pretty decent so far but some of the areas seem too big and running through them is a chore (spider forest, flayer jungle)
Yeah, they added an extra requirement to get to Act 4 in D2 because everybody just wanted to get rushed through Act 3. Basically before, you just killed the High Council and then Mephisto and you're out of there in like 3 minutes while being rushed. Then they added a whole stupid side story thing that makes a rush through Act 3 take like 8 minutes. All because the developers wanted to make you see their Act that everybody fricking hates to play single player and everybody just got rushed through it in multiplayer. They wanted you to see their work at least.

diablo 2 remake was a huge reality check. the grind in these games is fricking insane. you can run the same areas hundreds of times and come up empty handed. What they should have done is shown Inarius and Lilith to be aligned together and that they were banished simultaneously in the past. Someone releases Lilith; and in response The Light assigns the PC on quests to release Inarius thinking that he could save them but the reality is, he wants the same thing as Lilith and instead of fighting her they are allied. That's the first twist.
The second twist is that the PC is sent to kill both of them, and the mistake there is that neither of them are opposed to humanity, they are in fact trying to protect humanity but the PC is baited by Mephisto to kill them.

The game looks like it just runs on fumes by the end and has very little class diversity, and dungeon/boss design.

The classes are diverse, as diverse as they've ever been, The actual lore-based dungeons are unironically better than Diablo 2's, and the main storyline isn't half bad actually .
My biggest gripe with Diablo 2 was that I always took way too long to actually get started, the main plot really doesn't start until halfway through act 3 and then you still have to deal with all the shitty things like randomly generated maps and randomly generated dungeons and all that fun bullshit that was impressive at the time but makes replaying it a chore.
The game runs just fine so long as it's the only thing running, at least my experience with a 3080. I have to literally crash wallpaper engine and everything else that's running in the background because if I don't I get about 12 FPS.

I'll be honest, I liked it as a kid but I was an adult replaying Diablo 2 makes me want to kill myself. Especially if I try to do it with friends and my entire map disappears each time that log off or get disconnected.
I can safely say that an act one alone I enjoyed the dungeons more than I enjoyed any Dungeon in particular aside from the endgame dungeons of Diablo 2.

Yeah I didn't mention the cash shop. That does deserve a full mention, but as far as I can tell it's all cosmetics and so I'm not too upset about it. Especially because you can get a ton of different cosmetics in the game and transmogrification is free it's not a deal breaker to me but I can see why others might be upset.
For now, it is still content that they are selling to you piecemeal instead of including it in the full price+ game you just bought. It's pretty much a given the best looking skins in the game will be locked behind the cash shop...I doubt hardly anything free will rival how good the paid items look, if you thing about it, they can't, otherwise people wouldn't pay for it. They didn't test the waters with OW2 for nothing. Battle pass won't stay cosmetic for long. Season 2 is iffy because of the preorder free stuff, so they don't want to cause a shock when everything changes, but Season 3 onwards the Battle pass will be linked to a "mini-expansion" that will add a new are and a few new dungeons or something that you'll have to pay $20 for.

Animations and environment look really cool, so does the intially dull gameplay after around level 50.

Introducing cooldowns so you can stack gear that reduces cooldown in order to re-implement "two spell spam" makes sense and is good design. Just leave the cooldowns out of the game. Everyone hates them. That's why every D3 build stacks cooldown reduction so the game can finally become playable and fun.

That's what most MMO look like these days, so I don't see your point. MMO are now designed to be online RPG first, giving you the feeling of being in a larger world. The best MMO is Guild Wars 1, and it's exactly that.
They don't enjoy the grind. In games like D2 people think the grind is worth the potential reward though, which mainly comes down to itemization.

I've been enjoying it but there is a major issue I've noticed.
The game scales content to your level, and encourages you to do as much content as you can to raise your level.
However, the game does NOT scale gear rewards to your level, instead giving your gear at a level based on what level you SHOULD be doing the content.
So you wind up overleveled but wearing gear meant for characters at a much lower level than you, doing content at your current level. This creates a sort of difficulty that shouldn't really exist.
Currently I'm semi-softlocked at an early boss because I'm level 20 but all my gear is level 15 at MAX. Many of the bosses attacks kill instantly.

This is beyond bad. It means they couldn't be bothered to balance anything, design boss damage with life to set points for the player to overcome. The one fricking thing every game developer should avoid is creating damage sponges; artificial difficulty, and that's what they created here. It shouldn't fricking matter if good players overachieve and trivialize bosses, that's a reward to them; shit players will struggle anyways if you set the numbers right. But this way it's a slog for everyone. Same is true of gear durability, it should be fricking gone universally. Zelda having that shit is awful and it's awful here.
I didn't play Diablo 3. But seeing this shit in Diablo 4, it's just fricking infuriating.
It doesn't mean they can bypass balancing, that isn't why they do it. Each level and class has to be balanced together to the point where it takes more time to get "right" than a traditional scaling format.
They do it because accessibility. They want your stupid potato ass to be able to turn your playosphere on and mash buttons to see bing bing bigger numbers with all your short bus friends until you decide to go to bed. They are afraid of you having to think at any level because that will scare off their target market.
The better way is level downscaling. It preserves the overworld progression for solo players, and allows natural progression for low level players when a high level player parties with them. It also avoids the exploitative nature of a high level player running low tier content over and over again for easy wins since everything is scaled to a mediocre difficulty. It's completely moronic to do level scaling and it's absolutely pathetic that you are trying to justify it

I'm sorry but I don't understand what point you're trying to make here. Scaling content isn't accessible, it's a slog because it's never done right and so you're Dark Souls shield strafing until the boss inevitably falls over and that becomes the dominant if not the only strategy because lining up a surgical hit is just far too risky. If they wanted to serve players who want to see big numbers, traditional scaling can provide exactly that.
I can't imagine any target market wants damage sponges. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't game enough, but damage sponges aren't fricking okay to me, they're a crime. And it's a testament to how low standards have fallen if players are just willing to let that lazy shit slide.
Most enemies are scaled to your level, up or down, up to level 50 before WT 3. If you're having a real shit time progressing, its due to balance, your build (which, this game was designed around basically 0 build diversity so if you pick a build that isn't obvious from the onset you probably are objectively weaker), and/or you wearing underleveled gear. This is honestly a bigger influence than most people realize; when you level up you effectively become weaker. You have to equip level-appropriate gear to get back to where you just were.
The scaling works in opposition to damage sponges, not to create them. They want your level 3 friend to join you and still be able to kill things, and for you to join him and not just cheese the boss. As long as you keep clicking drops that have more bigger number (and don't try to get, god forbid, creative with your build) you will not have a problem.
And to make it clear: I hate this system with every fiber of my being. It forgoes a practical sense of progression, punishes creativit,y and streamlines builds to the point where it doesn't even offer what RPGs were made to offer.

I think most people will genuinely enjoy it. The gameplay is fun, the story is pretty good, the visuals are very good, pretty decent game honestly. I have a bit of a hard time figuring out what people might not like about it, I guess at the biggest thing that comes to mind is the fact that might be easier than Diablo II was but on the same hand it's way harder than Diablo 3 ever was and of the amount of class customization that you get is also more close to D2 than D3.

D2 has few class specific items. In D4 only one class can equip "shields" for example, which is insane.
That's not true at all. I'm playing a necromancer right now and I have several shields thatve dropped that I could equip. I chose not to equip them because I could just use a two-handed weapon and discard them for mats instead.
But if you want to play with a one-handed weapon and a shield that's totally up to you.

I really hate this. Like it implies that both Lilith and Mephisto magically induce Hatred, and that Mephisto shielded the PC from feeling Hatred so they could fight Lilith. But if that's the case, then why the frick would Lilith use Hatred at all to spur the forces of Sanctuary to fight Hell (and later Heaven). I mean wouldn't it make more sense to recruit the pre-existing civilized empires and structures to fight that fight and use diplomacy to do it and also differently recruit from the death cults and such the "traditional" Hell way. Flasks can be crafted to auto trigger now and the new chase item is basically perma flask effect for non-uniques.
Items like Mageblood are legitimately bad for the game.
It should be removed and flasks as a feature should be improved.

Not him but Headhunter was nerfed so fricking hard in being able to provide immortality that Mageblood is good. Before they nuked Headhunter's mods stacking and reduced monster Rares you could not only achieve defences with Headhunter but also big damage. Now it's only big damage; but it was truly the defences (and stacking move speed) that mattered on Headhunter from the beginning. Without the defences, Mageblood is a good item but if they had not nerfed Headhunter so drastically, Mageblood would be strictly a boss-only item.
I'm not saying Mageblood is bad, but it's only as good as it is now because they broke Headhunter's legs.

I torrented diablo 2 have and been playing it in single player. Reached act 3. It's pretty decent so far but some of the areas seem too big and running through them is a chore (spider forest, flayer jungle)
Yeah, they added an extra requirement to get to Act 4 in D2 because everybody just wanted to get rushed through Act 3. Basically before, you just killed the High Council and then Mephisto and you're out of there in like 3 minutes while being rushed. Then they added a whole stupid side story thing that makes a rush through Act 3 take like 8 minutes. All because the developers wanted to make you see their Act that everybody fricking hates to play single player and everybody just got rushed through it in multiplayer. They wanted you to see their work at least.

diablo 2 remake was a huge reality check. the grind in these games is fricking insane. you can run the same areas hundreds of times and come up empty handed. I can't believe people legit grinded this shit out without botting or maphack. when I played diablo 2 I paid like $10 for a 40 SOJ mule, and I never realized that this investment allowed me to bypass literally a thousand hours of grinding so that I could get to the actual fun part of the game which was farming ubers and PVP. it's insane to think that people really sat there and ran durance of hate with no maphack for days on end just to get a shaco or some tal rasha piece.
