I like the battle pass in Dead By Daylight because you have to do specific things in-game to progress, forcing you to change your playstlye or causing the enemies to frick up more because they're doing it too. Your mileage may vary, not sure how it'll be in D4
They will probably just rework the season progress journey and call it a battle pass now. I don't see a point in cosmetics in an arpg. It worked in d3 since they were hard to get. I played pretty much all day today, and went out for dinner, came back, took a nap, left the game open both times and no disconnect. Pretty based.
The opening prologue segment is really good in my opinion. If you care about spoilers, You wander into a snowy, three-building village and there's a crazy guy who's come in before you, and you're escorted to a small tavern and told about monsters to the north. You go out and clear them out and come back, and are treated to a meal, drink & music... except the townfolk drug you. Once the music stops, a guy arrives with a cart and you are tensely wheeled 100 ft to a slaughterhouse, and it's amazingly atmospheric with the tension, sound design, visuals, etc. This is a borderline horror movie. Just before you're carved up, the butcher, only expecting townsfolk, mumbles to an intruder who visibly and viscerally strikes the butcher upside the head with a flanged mace, killing him. It's pretty brutal. You escape, and he's the crazy guy who sobered up and escaped, unlike you. You enter a church and are treated to a FMV where townspeople are struggling through a church sermon when Lillith appears and compels the townspeople to kill the priest, and it's again pretty much a horror movie but in a low fantasy gothic setting which is neat. Then you go north, meet Lorath(the wet-behind-the-ears kid who talks to Tyrael constantly in D3's Reaper of Souls post-game) and he's apparently aged 20+ years and is jaded about angels and alone. You go to the frosty mountain's main city and do some fetches to learn about services and you're cut loose. Most of the smaller cutscenes aren't as striking as the early ones, but it's setting a good tone for the game overall. Also this guy who accepts a bribe follow you around for a bit, then ends up repenting by getting in a medieval mech armor than runs on suffering and blood to help you kill a boss. He dies in it afterwards. The church is harsh

There's only the one, and it upgrades throughout the game as you level and you still have to gather mats for it.
Potions don't refill unless you're killing/breaking shit and pick up red globes off the ground, so if a fight goes too long, you can drain your potions and die by attrition, unless you have leggos that give lifesteal/regen/other sorts of recovery.

It's quite telling though that MrLlama has completely stopped making D4 content for the last months despite being the one streamer Blizzard handpicked as the host to interview the devs after the official D4 announcement. He was clearly supposed to be the streamer Blizzard chose from the D2 community to give some credibility to D4, but all he does is either ignore D4 or if he does talk about it, he's extremely cynical and reserved about it.
Hasn't he been shilling it since he got out of 10 hour queue hell? I think the game looks like shit so I lost interest once he actually started playing.
D2R also fried lots of GPUs during the beta. Why the frick has this shit become such a frequent occurence with modern day PC games? Frick, Diablo 4 isn't even a console port but a game made primarily for PC, so they have no excuse whatsoever.
It's not about optimization though, I wouldn't care that much if the games just ran badly, but they are actively damaging hardware. There are plenty of current gen games that run pretty badly on say the Switch or the Series S, but you don't hear any stories about someone badly optimized game like Elden Ring or Wild Hearts bricking a console. Why has it apparently become acceptable for PC games to cause damage to the hardware?

The outdoor Kor Dragan area was way cooler, it's infested with vampires and big bloody tumors block doorways and passages, and you have to kill them small to medium to large to depower the blood vessel roots connecting them. I have witness how old GPU from 2011 dying live. Slowly degrading for years until you can't open browser without blue screen and forced to use 2008 drivers to operate in the system. This GPU is still alive. So I highly doubt you can brick any GPU unless it was already defective deep inside.

New world didn't cap frame rate in the main menu, and EVGA cards explicitly were burning up, because they designed shit fans and let their cards go to 100 degress C without shutting off or throttling. EVGA also replaced all those cards because if an uncapped frame rate burns your card it's a manufact problem.

All you're saying is that if a game does brick a GPU, it is always the manufacturers fault, which may very well be true, but it still doesn't change the fact that those GPUs are getting bricked after playing specific games.

Pirated D2R, was fun for like 5O hours. Leveled a sorc in SSF, found basically every single piece of end game gear including a SoJ, arach, shako, occy, made a CTA. It gets old farming lower Kurast super chests and the same 4 bosses over and over. Very shallow end game. I prefer Path of Exile. It's the spiritual successor to Diablo 2.

it should be noted that the necklace and ring of Engulfing Flames are the same power, at different percentages. They don't stack when equipped at the same time. I'm keeping the shittier ring on because my neck has a better shield power I want to keep. But I could also do the dungeon that grants the Engulfing Flame power(or salvage the item I don't care about to aquire it) and put Engulfing Flame on any yellow item, upgrading it to orange. Same for all powers essentially.

That's one thing I've noticed about combat especially on bosses, there is so much shit to dodge I can't even imagine playing melee. Especially before the inevitable tuning so that they take less damage.

I'd say the biggest saving grace is 4 has skill points on gear for skills you didn't buy, which was one of the nicer parts of D2 armor over D3 armor. You can get powers you don't spend points for, or buff them up considerably. And you can tweak one power per piece of gear using the same system they put on the mystic in Reaper of Souls, so you can potentially stack high points in a skill, which I think is neat & makes hard choices later when you want to replace something but now you're leaning on borrowed power from gear you started to rely on for skill points

towards the end of D3 the newer maps, like the ones where it stitched two levels together as a Void Memory or Time Abortion or whatever they called it was really cool. They had glowing seams everywhere and the maps felt very fresh in layout.
The current tilesets are pretty simplistic, like most of act 1 and 2.

I played poe, I know very well that even not THAT bad skills take weeks of gametime in trade league to start working, and probably years in ssf. THAT bad skills only work in standard.
Poe is decently balanced. They're all usable to some extent. I'd like to see you try balancing literally hundreds of skills and a ridiculous amount of different builds.

I like the battle pass in Dead By Daylight because you have to do specific things in-game to progress, forcing you to change your playstlye or causing the enemies to frick up more because they're doing it too. Your mileage may vary, not sure how it'll be in D4

I played pretty much all day today, and went out for dinner, came back, took a nap, left the game open both times and no disconnect. Pretty based.
The opening prologue segment is really good in my opinion. If you care about spoilers, You wander into a snowy, three-building village and there's a crazy guy who's come in before you, and you're escorted to a small tavern and told about monsters to the north. You go out and clear them out and come back, and are treated to a meal, drink & music... except the townfolk drug you. Once the music stops, a guy arrives with a cart and you are tensely wheeled 100 ft to a slaughterhouse, and it's amazingly atmospheric with the tension, sound design, visuals, etc. This is a borderline horror movie. Just before you're carved up, the butcher, only expecting townsfolk, mumbles to an intruder who visibly and viscerally strikes the butcher upside the head with a flanged mace, killing him. It's pretty brutal. You escape, and he's the crazy guy who sobered up and escaped, unlike you. You enter a church and are treated to a FMV where townspeople are struggling through a church sermon when Lillith appears and compels the townspeople to kill the priest, and it's again pretty much a horror movie but in a low fantasy gothic setting which is neat. Then you go north, meet Lorath(the wet-behind-the-ears kid who talks to Tyrael constantly in D3's Reaper of Souls post-game) and he's apparently aged 20+ years and is jaded about angels and alone. You go to the frosty mountain's main city and do some fetches to learn about services and you're cut loose. Most of the smaller cutscenes aren't as striking as the early ones, but it's setting a good tone for the game overall. Also this guy who accepts a bribe follow you around for a bit, then ends up repenting by getting in a medieval mech armor than runs on suffering and blood to help you kill a boss. He dies in it afterwards. The church is harsh

There's only the one, and it upgrades throughout the game as you level and you still have to gather mats for it.
Potions don't refill unless you're killing/breaking shit and pick up red globes off the ground, so if a fight goes too long, you can drain your potions and die by attrition, unless you have leggos that give lifesteal/regen/other sorts of recovery.
at least those berry bushes can drop like 5 or 8 at a time if it was 1 berry per bush it would be ridiculous

KotR and some old games can do that too. KotR in the menu have giga fps and if your card is old it can overheat it to driver crash.

I have witness how old GPU from 2011 dying live. Slowly degrading for years until you can't open browser without blue screen and forced to use 2008 drivers to operate in the system. This GPU is still alive. So I highly doubt you can brick any GPU unless it was already defective deep inside.

New world didn't cap frame rate in the main menu, and EVGA cards explicitly were burning up, because they designed shit fans and let their cards go to 100 degress C without shutting off or throttling. Pirated D2R, was fun for like 5O hours. Leveled a sorc in SSF, found basically every single piece of end game gear including a SoJ, arach, shako, occy, made a CTA. It gets old farming lower Kurast super chests and the same 4 bosses over and over. Very shallow end game. I prefer Path of Exile. It's the spiritual successor to Diablo 2.

I dont know why you'd even try this fight as a barbarian, you have to keep the boss half off-screen to dodge his doublle cleave, and that thing fired off at least every 30 seconds, in a 13 minute fight. You'd be contributing nothing DPS wise in a DPS check, and your armor would be trashed. You can't evade/leap/teleport enough. If wizards weren't on deck keeping the damage on with Hydras it wouldnt go down.
That's one thing I've noticed about combat especially on bosses, there is so much shit to dodge I can't even imagine playing melee. Especially before the inevitable tuning so that they take less damage.

I'd say the biggest saving grace is 4 has skill points on gear for skills you didn't buy, which was one of the nicer parts of D2 armor over D3 armor. You can get powers you don't spend points for, or buff them up considerably. And you can tweak one power per piece of gear using the same system they put on the mystic in Reaper of Souls, so you can potentially stack high points in a skill, which I think is neat & makes hard choices later when you want to replace something but now you're leaning on borrowed power from gear you started to rely on for skill points
It's looking like D4 is more like D2 in that you should silo into just a few skills then pick up the odd skill like teleport on your gear.

towards the end of D3 the newer maps, like the ones where it stitched two levels together as a Void Memory or Time Abortion or whatever they called it was really cool. They had glowing seams everywhere and the maps felt very fresh in layout.
The current tilesets are pretty simplistic, like most of act 1 and 2.

if you go all in on say skills that only use blunt weapon you only need that slot from what I can tell

The whole arpg gameplay is literally about making you chosen skill stronger, if you need to pick a skill you don't like and play it through the whole game to pick a spell you like - your balance is shit.
poe is flawed in this regard. you have to play the game from outside the game. if you think you can just jump in and complete all the content without planning, it wont happen.
It's a pve game. You can go dual strike and finish the game no problem. Balance only comes in when you want the fastest build out there.
I played poe, I know very well that even not THAT bad skills take weeks of gametime in trade league to start working, and probably years in ssf. THAT bad skills only work in standard.

Poe is decently balanced. They're all usable to some extent. I'd like to see you try balancing literally hundreds of skills and a ridiculous amount of different builds.

the diablo franchise died long before the the failures of d3, diablo immortal and d4. the original game designers blizzard north who created the game left blizzard in 2005. the current blizzard making diablo games now were only responsible for making the cinematics for diablo 2. thats why all their new diablo games look like WoW. so dont expect them to ever beable to make a game like diablo 2 ever again or you're just setting yourself up for disapointment

It's pretty good so far. Way, way darker than 3, which is odd to say when 3 ends with an angel just slaughtering humans and turning everyone into skellys and ghosts. 4 is trying to psychologically shock you a lot more with more grounded, gothic low-fantasy horror.
Immortal will probably be more successful so they care more about it
