That's quite an abstract concept when you get right down to it, it's well designed, responsive and punchy, I've gone in playing some random build as I played (vampire/minion necro) and it's pretty fun and feels fairly competitive with the random scrubs I see wandering around and can carry my irl friends

I have a real soft spot for Ralph Ineson and anything that lets me play a skeleton necromancer, and this game has legendary aspects which give +x skeletons summons so it's better than shit like diablo 3 to me already

It's less arcadey and noticeably less replayable than diablo 2 already, this has both advantages and disadvantages, the good: I am actively engaged with the story and it is quite good and seems to actually effect the map as you progress which is cool. The bad: if you want to play hardcore or just like alts I imagine replaying all this shit is going to be really really tedious. the presentation of this diablo game is far better than something like poe and your character will pretty much always look cool even with trash equipment, but it feels like it has a lot of diablo immortal/Lost Ark/gacha mobile chinkshit inspiration in it's UI design and all the different resources and currencies you'll pick up

If you've got money literally burning a hole in your pocket and you have friends playing it or are already on the fence (a fellow branded slave to blizzard) then yes, it will at least provide a reasonable amount of fun for at least one run of the campaign, otherwise, probably just play torchlight 1 again

Pretty sure i read somewhere once you have one character that completes the story you get the choice to skip it with alts, sorta like adventure mode in D3. But i could be mistaken.

Leveling enemies scale linearly. If you build right, you scale exponentially.

This is bullshit. Builds only begin to scale exponentially beyond the level scaling once you reach the paragon board. And that's the only part that actually scales. Your skills are basically all useless and gear is all the same for ever class. You just get +damage affixes kn absolutely every gear affix. Doesn't even matter what your build is because the gMe doesn't differentiate damage types
This is a blatant lie. If you just equip whatever bullcrap and don’t stack damage multipliers ofc your build will feel like shit. Even the skills have multiple different builds you just need to choose things that have synergy. On barb I’ve already had like 3 different builds on the way to mid level and they each played differently and I got it to a level I’m happy with.
No it is isn't. Show the gear pieces and skills for your 3 'distinct' builds and we'll calculate the item and skill overlap
If that's the case then your build must suck. I am melting pretty much every mob I see with my Rogue and my gear is at least 20 levels below my character level.
The drops in the this game are weird though. nothing drops around my level its always 10-15 levels behind even from the curiosities vendor.
Leveling means acquiring more skills for different playstyles, boomers can't comprehend the new leveling system, they keep thinking that leveling up solely results in easier monster kills, very tedious boomer mindset.

In PoE you actually get very noticeably stronger when you level and hit power spikes like getting a new weapon or an extra support gem. It's also lightning-fast compared to D4 leveling.
this and setting up builds isn't a 60iq task. Even if you're using a guide seeing/feeling when that last piece of the build's puzzle come together is incredibly satisfying.
Then when you save up and get the upgrade that turns it explodey or doubles your defense is neuron-activating.
It takes the edge off the grind.
Feels like the best thing they have made in years. But I can't comment on the end game since I haven't finished it yet.

I've been playing for 3 days now and Im having a blast. And Im guy who absolutely hates blizzard and haven't given them a single cent for decade and a half...
But I had lots of fun during the betas and was really surprised by how good compared to their other nu games is l, so I decided frick it, and whaled out on it.
Already have 30 hours in, and I'm just barely starting main quest in act4, im taking my time and doing lots of side shit, so there's definitely enough content for the price/hours of enjoyment ratio
There are some complaints that I have like this for example
The du gekn layout is absolute dogshit, especially compared to d2. Also, obviously forced ""social"" features that are in the game just to sell skins

But yeah, im around lvl 42 now and it definitely starts to feel a but sloggis, maybe because I did too much side shit, now imma rush through the rest of the campaign so I could switch to world 3 and start doing dungeons

Ahh I gotcha. I looked at some of the builds here and there but most were further into the game than me. So I just went with the recommended lunging strike and rend and then kinda winged it. It’s a ton of fun and I got lucky with some nice drops (got movement up on amulet and boots so I’m zoomin). I only got to act 2 but I’m like level 35? I’m just having fun exploring and doing quests or events that are on the way. If you want to try something new try out the maelstrom ult. It’s a crazy screen nuke and the passive makes it each time you switch weapons it lowers the cooldown by 1. So if you are doing generator spender generator you shave off a ton of time. I pair it with the stomp that reduces ult cooldown by 1 second per enemy hit. It also has synergies with the unique arsenal passive since you always want to keep the buff up.

No way.. I bought d3 on deep sale and had a ton of fun with it. Then I saw the d2 remake on sale and I heard rave reviews about it. It was the lamest game of all time. I was playing Druid and all I did was spam the same spell and drink mana potions when my mana was too low. Then I got a mana on kill and I was just spamming the same crap over and over. By the time I got my first rune word I was bored out of my mind.

It honestly boils down to what you want. D3 is more steamlined and arcadey, compared to that, D2 feels a bit more like a traditional ARPG. You could get the bundle that contains both D2 and D3 - the primevil collection or something like that.

Controller is a bit weird but plays well, get it on sale plus if you have solo no online requirement, which is nice.

It's also easily the most fluid and satisfying combat in an ARPG ever. The endgame is also the most varied an ARPG has ever been at launch. All of the group / party content is a blast and works seamlessly

Well that's just horseshit. Anytime you move over a boundary break the game stalls out for a solid 2-3 seconds. It's even worse when you get your mount, you begin rubberbanding back and forth anytime you pass over a boundary break while mount sprinting for a solid 5-6 seconds before it sets itself back to normal.
It's also the only game in the last 3-4 years that has hard crashed my PC to a point where I have to restart it from the case. And that's happened five different times across about 20 hours of gameplay.
Sure, it's not as broken or full of performance issues as something like Jedi Survivor or Cyberpunk, but it's far from zero major bugs/performance/server/stability issues. If you're lying about that right from the start why would I trust anything else you have to say?

The only bug i had is a red wall on Reject the Mother sidequest.
I as a trophy collector am more buffled by lack of achievements for collecting stuff.

How the frick is the open world "detailed" at all. Its fricking empty. All it has are random events shrine collectibles and a few world bosses. It's pathetically bland. The dungeons are all fricking garbage with very little hard crafted locations

The only real endgame is nightmare dungeons, there are 100 tiers and its literally poe maps but simplified, nothing else to do really. Occasional world boss event or helltide farm is meh. You will get bored on day two after finishing campaign
It'd nothing like poe maps. That's like saying poe maps are just redoing story dungeons over and over but scaled. Poe maps are an entirely different section of the game accesses within your hideout that grant you access to new bosses, locations, items, and a massive amount of content customization

I think I've hit my wall on it.
I'm about halfway through act 5, level 48 and am killing things roughly at the same speed I was killing them at level 6 due to how absurdly broken the scaling in the game is.
I haven't looked up a meta build or anything like that, just kinda playing it by ear, but it's just not fun. The map being a massive open world also hurts the game, it all just sort of blends together. There's a snow area, a swampy area, a desert area, but all of it is the same shit. Same 15 or so monster just reskinned everywhere (feels like there's substantially less unique looking monsters than in D2, let alone D3).
The story started off really strong, but act 3 and 4 and what I've played of 5 have been incredibly by the numbers bland and boring.
I spent about 2 hours yesterday just running around the entire map getting all the zones unlocked and activating all the statues of lillth and when I was done with all that I just sort of sat there for like 5 minutes, closed the game, and haven't had any desire to reopen it since.

Smoke bomb, Dark Shroud, Stealth and Dash attack can be used as an escape mechanism.
Every class revolves around 1 skill. For necros it's corpse explosion for rogues it's twisting blades, barb whirlwind everything else is useless fricking dogshit garbage
They badly need to normalize resource-generation and make it consistent. I had no problem with my Shadow/Minion Necro, since popping corpses gives you Essence, but I'm leveling a druid now and it's a pain.

As expected the pet necro everyone complained about in the beta fell off pretty quickly as some mob packs started to be able to one shot them even with the perk since it protects from a SINGLE hit. Meanwhile you can see most other classes just slamming though content like it was PoE.
The lack of rifts and only wow style zone events to get better gear its kinda terrible end game. Im sure it was all cut content for future seasons.

nope. it seems highly dependent on how man y people you're playing with as well. I can play fairly smoothly on ultra by myself but with two other guys it gets pretty chuggy every time we go through town or enter a new zone.
One thing that worries me is the games tendency to outright break hardware. Every day several posts about gpus beeing bricked, not just gigabyte 3080s. Also even stranger, reports of modems crashing and even bricking, never heard of that before. Game needs some more time in the oven before I decide if I wanna try it or not I think.

It's very well made techincally. Looks great, the art style is actually more consistent with Diablo 1 and 2, if that's important to you, it's fairly well optimized, I've yet to see any bugs.
The problem is - it feels like absolute dogshit to play while leveling for one reason and one reason only - the scaling. Because the entire world constantly scales up with you, you never get to feel like you're getting stronger, until you get to paragon levels. Even trash mobs that you'd be deleting entire packs of in PoE take forever to kill, none of the loot you get before level 50 feels good because it never does anything to improve your peformance.
tl;dr - could be a decent game, but level scaling fricking ruins it (just like it does every other game where it's implemented).

Gear drops scale to your level/world tier until lv50. So do the enemies. Sure, if you're lucky enough to find a few synergistic legendaries, you'll can see some improvement, but it's extremely marginal. The only time you see any real power growth is when you hit paragon levels and can start stacking legendary bonuses and paragon boards, while the enemy stats stop scaling (as hard).

From what I gather, one of the archangels is more of a c**t than the rest and wants to kill all humanity so he steals the soulstone where diablo is imprisoned again after you kill him in 3 and apparently try thats why he's alive again.

It reminds me of Shadowlands Covenants YOU WILL play the game our way. What I mean by this is the game expects you to farm dungeons on the side, upgrade your gear, reroll stats, add sockets, upgrade gems while you progress. Most don't do this while progressing though and its more looked at as something you do end game cuz thats usually the kinda thing this is but in this game your expected to do it the whole way. If your a hardcore player, I honestly believe because of this system it will prob give you one of the best hardcore experiences but outside of that its good for people who like it and bad for people who wanna wait to do it at end game which feels like the ladder of players.
Oh yea and im a Necro pet player. D2 & D3 prob over 1k hours and they added necro into this game and the pet build isn't viable making it a shitty Sorc but as I said we are the free beta testers so hopefully fixed by S1.
this is why I give at least 4-5 weeks until after a game launches to even consider buying it. The amount of relentless shilling from bots, streamers, youtubers, etc, is immense. You just got to wait for those marketing contracts to expire.

If you liked D3, you will like D4. My thoughts on it is its pretty fun, more challenging than D3, and looks great. Its a straight upgrade to D3 in nearly every way. Dont expect any build autism or deep endgame content. If youre a D2 or PoE enjoyer you wont find much to like about this. If youre interested buy the regular edition for $70. The other editions arent worth it (I bought Ultimate). Not really much else to say about it. Its nu-Diablo, ylu either like it or dont.

I was told this and renown because once you hit 50 your renown and glyph exp become combined or some shit making the renown harder to get.
Its alright - potential is there. Comparing it to poeatm is difficult because im burnt out on poe, but also poe has an endgame thatd take any game a long time to match. I wouldnt recommend it at the pre-access price but at regular price sure. The most important thing to get right now is the endgame, ultimately these games retain players based on endgame not a glittery campaign with great cinematics so thats where the focus should be, Blizzard should not be afraid to blatantly rip off poe at every opportunity, just keep adding depth to the endgame experience season after season and the game has a chance.

Poison damage is a bit fricking fricking moronic imo. If there's enough happening on screen (or just not paying attention), often you don't realise 'till you hit half health.

I am enjoying it, spending a lot of time just doing random stuff I'm level 45 in the 1st zone. Story is good and combat feels really great. The level scaling is nice I can play with my friends easily.
My boomer friends have been complaining about it but the few I've convinced to play say they enjoy it, so overall I'd say it's pretty good so far.

The moment they announced an "open world" this was the first thing that came to my mind.
Without absurd level scaling you'll quickly invalidate all the threat the open world might have and with scaling you'll quickly invalidate all of the player's power progress. It's a lose-lose that they never should have taken. I guess they needed something big to distinguish the game from the rest of the pack, but the open world does seem like some exec mandate that they were obligated to include.

Honestly the gameplay feels a lot more engaging than like 99% of games like this. I’m actually having to react to attacks, retreat/funnel enemies, Target specific mobs, etc. unlike POE or D3 where most of the time it feels like you just run in circles and blow shit up. Maybe it’s different as a caster/necro but as rogue it feels like I’m actually playing a game at least in some of the harder parts. Seems like about as much depth as D3 though, you can’t really mess your build as long as you just equip what it says is better.

Itemization is really weak in D4. There's too many affixes that can change things, it makes getting a perfect item hard. Also, legendary aspects are too strong and you can design your build around them, I don't like that, but can't quite put my finger on why.
Sometimes, I hate that an item gives me stats, but other times I hate that the stats aren't strong enough. The items are far too simple and too complex. And don't get me started on how gear-dependent the endgame is. These ambiguous and contradictory problems with itemization are going to kill this game in a few months, trust me.
I'm liking the item system. Items are 99.9% trash but the system is so forgiving you just make the godly drops you need yourself in most cases. They really want you to use the extraction / affix re-roll / upgrade systems probably because it's the only gold sink there currently is.
Can you take affix from one weapon to another infinitely? Is the affix stored in the ether even if you sell the weapon?
If it's not in the codex of power, no, you can only move it once. To do it again you need to pull it from another drop with the same power, but legendaries drop so much in the higher difficulty dungeons that's not a problem. Affixes you extract but don't apply live in a separate inventory tab so they don't take up regular item space.
No, if you ever see a legendary aspect is "imprinted" on an item that means you can't extract it. You can only extract from natural drops, and you can imprint either natural extractions or codex ones. Codex is infinite but lowest roll, natural extraction can be any roll but you can only do it once. Personally I am hoarding a bunch of legendaries in my stash related to my build, and I'm going to codex rates while I level up. Late game I'll extract the stash ones for the higher rolls once the higher rolls start to actually matter, but I don't think it's that important until you get to like world tier 4 maybe
What do you mean by higher rolls? Can you roll on the legendary affix to increase its power or you just mean the item can roll better affix stats when it drops?
Legendary affixes usually have ranges just like regular ones. So like "restore [15-25] mana". If you pull that from the codex it's always 15, but if you get it from a drop it could roll anywhere in that number range.
So the numbers on a legendary aspect can be within a range, like 20% to 40%. Natural legendaries that drop can be anything in the range, if you codex a legendary it will always give you the lowest (worst) possible roll. So a natural legendary can get a higher roll on the aspect stats than a codex can. And as far as I'm aware you can't reroll or increase an aspect's stats, unless that's something really late game
But if you extract the affix the legendary is destroyed. How do you get the transmog then? You have to choose between keeping the affix for another item or getting the transmog?
Not sure why you brought up transmogs, but yes you'd miss out on it. But you can always just find another one and get the transmog if you really want it

I don't hate that rares still have a place. You're not just looking for the best legendary but also a rare that can be aspects. I agree with the overabundance of stats though, there should be a way to refine them like D3. Maybe make it cost an aspect to reroll the stat into a pick3.
That system exists in this game, reroll is one of the tabs at occultist. You can only reroll one affix just like in D3.

This is what I did with d3. Was an 8/10 experience with expansion, not a terrible game, but damn I would have felt let down paying $60 for the base game and sitting around waiting for them to complete it.

You would grind and try to make bank with selling items on RMAH. But yes, the gameplay was abysmal, and if you don't like botting or really long droning mind-numbing clicking sessions you would have been disappointed massively

Recent update made it that your minons can take max 30% of their hp in a hit and the tanks have passive blocking all sources of damage every few seconds + the heal over time is like 60-70% per 5 sec. Your minions are not dying, you are making a lot of corpses for corpse explosion and getting a lot of mana passively from your minions. Maybe the mana generator doesn't even need to be used.
Bosses are not usually the problem for Summon Necro. Certain affixes like Suppression or mobs with lots of AOE really make you use priests.
I have easily had my army wiped out from executioner packs since they jump and attack. Which wouldnt be a problem until you realize theres10 of them all doing this.
Do you need a builder? Not until you run out of corpses because your skelles got blendered and your choice is do damage or summon skellies that may die in 2-3 hits maybe without getting another corpse.

I miss Marvel Heroes so much. I used to alternate between Poe and MH. MH was a vast, gigantic, SHALLOW ocean. D4 is probably same shallow but in different ways. PoE is Wide and Deep.
MH was FUN to grind, especially on the bonus events.
