>Holy frick, the load times are atrocious
>It takes a thousand fricking years just to save your game. That's not good, especially for a game like Diablo (or any game, for that matter).
>You better have a whole fricking memory card dedicated to this game, because a SINGLE save took up like 90% of my memory card space.
There are some pros, I guess
>Diablo plays pretty alright on a controller and you can map the buttons to anything you want
>Co-op is cool
>Your character has a reflection in the water in Tristram.
Another thing I want to say is that the graphics are okay, like they're not bad, but it's an obvious downgrade. Now I get it, it's the PS1, but the original Diablo is mostly sprite-based, so I didn't think it was THAT demanding of a game, but holy frick.
>playing PC-specific game one a console
C'mon, you can do better than this
I like checking out weird console ports of PC games from back then and seeing if they're any good or not.
Diablo is actually play better with a controller. They made D3's console version harder because of that.
That reminds me, is the dodge button for D3 console changed the gameplay much? I can see it's useful when you're basically progressing through the story but not so much when you're grinding for endgame, assuming it's the same with PC version. I kinda hope that Blizz rebalanced the endgame with dodging in mind for console version.
Given original version is decompiled, how hard would it be to decompile the PS1 version? Like starting out from scratch or finding differences would be easy?
It does, but Blizzard messed up it's balancing with reducing DPS to half and you have to pick up orbs(glory of nephilim) to fix it. Problem is at end level orb's time limit goes off so you end up doing half damage. Ideal would be having having dodge off, but without half dps thing. I don't think people bother cracking PC version so in a way console version is the way to preserve Diablo 3 right now.
>Diablo is actually play better with a controller.
Starcraft 64 has zero lag multiplayer compared to pc.
It's not the greatest thing ever but I think it is acceptable. The memory card thing is pretty shit but with all the info that actually has to get saved there's basically no way around it.
If you want some real abortions look at the attempts to port RTS like Command & Conquer or Warcraft 2.
>Warcraft 2
I couldn't beat Beyond the Dark Portal on the ps1 version because it was so fricking hard to micro.
This, StarCraft 64, Warcraft 2 on the PS1 and Saturn (with no mouse support???). Blizzard was doing some weird stuff on consoles at this time.
Much faster & less timing than pc
it's half the resolution of the PC version
>a SINGLE save took up like 90% of my memory
it stores all the jank of doors left open and items left on the ground here or there.
Is there any reason to play this over the pc version? I don't really know anything about Diablo I'm just curious.
Not unless curiosity is a reason. Which it is. But even then it's only a reason to "try" it, not to "play" it.
There is devilution x with controller support. Thanks japan ps1 verson.
I intentionally played the PS1 version because i cant stand the mouse clicking controls of the PC version.
Is there a way to use a controller on PC?

>I intentionally played the PS1 version because i cant stand the mouse clicking controls of the PC version.
i find that the ps1 version is great for doing a run or two depending on how far you get and when you die, its over. like a roguelike. dont gotta bother with saving.
I played and beat this with my wife. She didn't notice the load ti es but it drove me crazy. Other than that it's a decent way to play it coop.
I played this and beat my wife too. She didn't notice the load times at all.
I too beat my wife
I beat your wife too. I haven't played the game, though. Maybe I'll beat someone else's wife first.
How does saving work with two characters, does the save file keep track of stat changes and gear of both players or just the first one? Or do you need two memory cards?
>Doesn't mention the biggest pro = you can run
>Doesn't mention the biggest con = shit resolution
Anon did you even play the damn game?
>Doesn't mention the biggest pro = you can run
You can run in the Hellfire expansion and Diablo 2, but not vanilla Diablo 1 or the Playstation port for that matter.
>Doesn't mention the biggest con = shit resolution
It's a Playstation port of a PC game from the 90s, thought that went without saying
Diablo 1 PSX has a toggle option for faster movement. I dont think its actually a run button though, it just speeds up the overall game, including enemy movement.
Actually you are thinkjng of the map, which causes the framerate to go to half
I think I see what you meant when you said you can run. There is a 'game speed' option, but that just makes the whole game faster, not just your character.
I rather play diablo, xcom, and doom on ps1 than pc
Compared to what?
The other isometric, dark, gothic horror, beautiful pixel art, large budget, voiced acted, perfectly designed action rpgs on psx?
I mean, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain comes to mind

The couch co op makes it worth it idc who you are. Great memories playing this with my brother and getting stuck on skeleton king boss
The comfiness of a controller is just too good.
Diablo, Populous, Quake, Theme Hospital, Simcity2000, Warcraft 2, Darkstone...
Too bad baldurs gate got cancelled.
It's definitely not as good as the PC version but there was one fun thing about co-op was that if you both found a really great item you could just have one character be saved to a file with that item and then you give said item to your friend who saves to a different slot and then you reload your character and you'll both keep the item. I guess it's basically dupe cheating but you take what you can get when playing on PS1 and it also solves a lot of arguments as kids.
I beat it as a kid, it was my first Diablo experience, I still remember my first time wandering around Tristram, facing against the butcher and having nightmares with his room, his voice and his stun.
