also technically not true, charlie chaplin is not the best charlie chaplin lookalike either. you dont define something by including itself. last guy to try "I am that I am" has sparked flamewars spanning millennia.
diablo was the first hack and slash, neat random genre name.
No, there were Roguelites before Diablo. Diablo wasn't really the first anything, except maybe the first game to be stupid enough to have a point & click control scheme for real time combat.
Path of Exile literally started with the mission statement of being a better D2 sequel than D3.
The they spent ten years adjusting it according to what generated more positive responses and improved the player count.
Show your gif to a PoE player now, and he'll say it's not enough clearspeed to be "viable".

f2p model is at fault, they have to keep players somehow.
The fact that blizzard didn’t remaster Diablo 1 and include it for free with the purchase of remastered Diablo 2 shows they’re lazy, talentless, greedy pieces of shit and I’ll never give them money again
I don't even understand the explosion of this genre in recent years?
I'm not going to go internet searching too write a complete dissertation but Rogue is from like 1980s, and then Nethack later on, and there were games done in a similar vein like Fatal Labyrinth a decade later. I heard the terms of a couple times throughout the 90s but not very often.
And now suddenly it's the hot new shit? Can someone explain?
>diablo 1 >rogue but isometric and with action combat >slow and atmospheric >diablo 2 >just your average isometric lootfest >steamroll through everything, skip the story, grind for the ladder
>everyone copies d2 >there's literally 0 games like d1
>enter a random D1 thread >somebody posted my game
that was unexpected, thanks Anon. i'll release a new update as soon as my pc stops being dead, the one you posted is very outdated.

Rogue was SOULFUL ASCII art and then you die. Only mass culling that happened was if you found a Scroll of Genocide and used it on goblins.
Modern loot grinder arpgs are sort of like western musou games. You cull thousands of enemies effortlessly these days its sort of blah.
how do i play this in 2022? mods? crt filters? are the pixels huge or am i forced to play in 148x148 square on my monitor? do i start with diablo 1 or 2? things to know before playing? i used to play this on ps1 with my brother but we never progressed because we were moronic.
there are mods for 1 to get it working on modern systems. google it.
D2 is universally praised.
while starting with 1 is recommended, it isn't a big deal to start with 2. it also should run out of the box.
I'd go with one of the Devilutions. Regular Devilution is a pure source port, including all the bugs and flaws of the original game. DevilutionX is the same thing, but it fixes the outright bugs and adds some QoL and a lot of options to the deal.
There's something both very tragic and funny to me about women dying in combat of war. Their corpses and skin are all bloodied and pale in uniform and all that, figures (VERY tragic), but I have seen very few dead female soldiers that aren't defiled. That's the funny part.
>anime poster comes into thread to say psycoptic things that are completely unrelated to the thread
can we stop pretending that anime hasn't damaged the brains of youth?
Diablo was the first diablo-like.
dude, you know, diablo was, totally, the first diablo, like
no it wasnt.
also technically not true, charlie chaplin is not the best charlie chaplin lookalike either. you dont define something by including itself. last guy to try "I am that I am" has sparked flamewars spanning millennia.
diablo was the first hack and slash, neat random genre name.
Saying that it's not inherently true doesn't make the statement untrue. Name one Diablo-like game that came out before Diablo.
...Rogue? Literally, the fricking game that the genre is named after?
Rogue is not a Diablo-like in the slightest, you question-marking tardo. The real-time requirement alone disqualifies it.
Diablo is a turn-based game converted into "real-time" in an afternoon, to make it not cancer in multiplayer.
Dialo was the first game
diablo
D
stay awhile and listen
ok
great
when you really think about it, Diablo was Strand-type game adjacent.
No, you moron. It's literally Solitaire.
>success or failure depends on RNG
>start over from the beginning if you lose
rude
why not compromise on naming the genre solitablo?
your shit and skills carry over if you start a new game.
fricking diablo
ruined diablo-likesdvs2j
YOU ARE TOO LATE TO SAVE THE CHILD, NOW YOU WILL JOIN HIM, IN HELL
No, there were Roguelites before Diablo. Diablo wasn't really the first anything, except maybe the first game to be stupid enough to have a point & click control scheme for real time combat.
Folks, Diablo is not a roguelike. It's an action RPG or, appropriately, a "Diabloclone." It defined the genre
People will debate this by citing Zelda or some shit, but it is lexically tautological.
Diablo was released at a time of turn based, isometric rpgs.
It retained the classical appearance but made the gameplay more casual and fun.
Why aren’t there more diabe-girlkes that clone Diablo 1 instead of 2?
Because companies copy what's successful commercialy, not what is good.
>companies
What about indie devs?
They are worse and greedier than the biggest of publishers.
>defending actiblizz
an hero
I have faith that one day a group of autists will make a good Diabe-girlke, since I know actiblizz will never make a good game again
I'm still waiting for any game to clone D2. Instead, they all seem to clone D3. Closest I've found is Divine Divinity.
How come nobody makes "slow" games anymore?
Slow games don't look good in trailers and hype videos
yeah shit sucks
Path of Exile ten years ago

diablo was one of the games ever made
Almost correct. However, Diablo is disqualified from being a roguelite by virtue of being a good game.
Diablo was easily one of the games of all time.
The fact that blizzard didn’t remaster Diablo 1 and include it for free with the purchase of remastered Diablo 2 shows they’re lazy, talentless, greedy pieces of shit and I’ll never give them money again
just dont play it. there are literally hundreds of millions of videogames.
>playing troony games
You can't stop LMAOOOO YOU LOVE troony SHIT HAHAHAHA.
knock it off
Dead Rogue.
The Hell and The Hell 2 are so fricking bad.
Skill issue
>diablo was the first roguelite
No, it wasn't.
Did Butcher strip these people before killing them? Kinky
You would not eat a clothed cow, would you.

And now suddenly it's the hot new shit? Can someone explain?
For me, it sucks ass now and it sucked ass then.
People finally learned how to make these kind of games in a way that doesn't cause eye cancer and they became popular.
>diablo 1
>rogue but isometric and with action combat
>slow and atmospheric
>diablo 2
>just your average isometric lootfest
>steamroll through everything, skip the story, grind for the ladder
>everyone copies d2
>there's literally 0 games like d1
DUDE DIABLO 1 IS GAY BRUH LMAO YOU CANT EVEN RUN??
>Why is everyone copying the game that defined its own genre, not some rogue knock-off?
>average isometric lootfest
Saying it's 'average' because every game afterwards tried to copy is it kind of disingenuous
https://osurpzz.itch.io/tower-of-kalemonvo
no, I do not know if it's any good
>enter a random D1 thread
>somebody posted my game
that was unexpected, thanks Anon. i'll release a new update as soon as my pc stops being dead, the one you posted is very outdated.
Cool shit
The Diablo 1 NWN module is bretty gud but yeah, unless you go to older games that's about it
I think I've heard this before. What makes you say that?
Rogue was SOULFUL ASCII art and then you die. Only mass culling that happened was if you found a Scroll of Genocide and used it on goblins.

And you still are apparently
i can change anon. show me the way.

NetHack was released a full decade before Diablo, and even that's not the first one
>nobody names King's Field
Hella cringe
why is this hot?
Dead rogue.
raped to death
>journalist gameplay demo
I hate what D2 did to ARPGs so much. There's an enormous difference between pre-D2 ARPGs and post-D2 ARPGs
Which arpg would those even be? I cant think of any relevant before diablo… secret of mana?
all the D1 clones, but I can't remember any good ones.
Arguably Throne of Darkness?
I fricked up anyway and was thinking diablo 1 even tho d2 was specifically stated in the post so i can be ignored immediately
I mean the Diablo clone style of ARPG, not other ones.
There's something both very tragic and funny to me about women dying in combat of war. Their corpses and skin are all bloodied and pale in uniform and all that, figures (VERY tragic), but I have seen very few dead female soldiers that aren't defiled. That's the funny part.

How is it off-topic?
Diablo was the first rouge game period.
