This. I can't believe how shitted and flopped this sale is. Who does valve think they are, they could hand these things away for free and nobody would take them because of how hard they flop and shit.

Another patent-troll, yeah. Valve already fended off fricking Microsoft, they have infinite money. Immersion is in deep shit if they actually decide to take Valve to court (which they won't do, they're notorious patent-trolls and demand settlements for any and all rumble motor technology).
Microsoft paid the license fee to SCUF which was purchased by Corsair. Valve settled with Corsair for about $4 million.

Valve lost the case, they didn't settle. SCUF's patent was also so hilariously vague that they were court ordered to redefine it. They were trying to argue what "back" means for their vague patent.

I'm on the fence. My Switch just died, and if I have to spend $150 for the repair, I'd rather just put that money towards a Deck. M.2 2230 drives are still outrageously fricking expensive for the capacity, though.
I should say, I'm on the fence because I already have a gaming PC and would like a portable game device, but I already thought the Switch was too large, and even though the emulation would be nice, a Deck is too big to be portable.
You can get a terabyte m.2 for $80 off newegg, or a 512gb version for $30 and upgrade the base deck if you're willing to go that route. Would save a fair amount of money in the end.
I should say, I'm on the fence because I already have a gaming PC and would like a portable game device, but I already thought the Switch was too large, and even though the emulation would be nice, a Deck is too big to be portable.
I thought the same but you get used to it. Neither fit in your pocket, but the deck at least comes with a nice little case that's easy to stash away or walk around with. Meanwhile I'm pretty sure trying to carry my switch around is what made my sticks frick up.
Yeah, I was looking at the base model, that's the one I was on the fence about. The cheapest 512GB I found was about $50, which is twice as much as a "standard" 2280 NVMe drive, which is ridiculous. I get that they're the less "mainstream" form factor, but if they're using the exact same memory chips and controllers, there's literally no reason they should be charging more money for what amounts to less PCB. Are the no-name brands on Newegg and Amazon reputable? I know with a regular SSD, they'll cheap out by leaving out the VRAM cache, and there isn't a 2230 drive with a cache anyway.
>there's literally no reason they should be charging more money for what amounts to less PCB.
It costs money to make weird one off shit.
And that scales.
If you don't want to risk the no name brands or used garbage on ebay you could get a 1tb corsair off newegg for $100. You'll still save about $60 and double the storage.
I have it love it, but hadn't played for a few months over tax season just picked it up again did various updates and more my battery is all fricked up. Thinks it's go no life span so shuts down when doing things that checks the system. Steam wants to replace it but I treasure my set up so I'm trying to recalibrate battery since it lasted 3 hours running ps3 and ds emulation All that, and I still recommend it.
It's fine though, I've got a DS, Pokemon Heart Gold with a Pokewalker unlocked on ALL routes, and a GBA Everdrive with tons of RPGs I need to finish to satisfy my needs for the three month sabbatical. It looks fun as hell, and when I have my backlog cleared and need games for it, I'll likely get one.
Bought one as a switch/wiiu/GameCube emulation machine and honestly fell in love with it for just about everything. Only thing that kinda sucks on it is shooters but single player ones are still great.
Learn to gyro aim. It's really not that hard. Thank me later
Been thinking about getting one to play while on the bed since back issues but you gotta buy them imported in Australia and then have to buy a power adaptor as well and that just annoys me. Heard also if you get them from Amazon it is a 50/50 if the fricker was opened or 2nd hand but sold at full cost.
If I could go to a store and just buy one I probably would have bought one by now.
It's quite surprising how they don't deliver those everywhere. I had to buy one for a friend in norway because they don't ship there either.
Why does it only have 1 USB-C that serves as both power and video output? I want to hook it up to a portable monitor while using the Deck for gyro but I can't.

Yeah, it's been nice to have.
I really want the next one to have a better screen and battery though, it's doable outside but I want it to be more in the range of comfortable to look at/vivid.
It's never going to stop being able to emulate older titles and play the titles it can currently play. It'll be able to handle newer games for a few years at medium to low as long as they're not AAA shit relying on people having the newest goyvidia card
Define outdated, because the console thing where you pretend old games are unplayable because a new launch happened and all your games aren't available isn't really a thing on PC
Depends on how design trends are going.
If dumbass bloat keeps up, it'll probably be fine for around, 4-5 years assuming we're running games on reasonable settings with some wiggle room for games that are especially resource intensive.
If Valve actually manages to convince PC developers to get their shit together and stop bloating the frick out of videogames, probably a lot longer.
While the amount of new games I would one to play can be counted on 1 hand, the deck came out too soon for me. Dragon's Dogma 2 is all I really care about right now and I would probably have gotten it if the deck came out after its release, assuming it would have better parts if it did.
But it does look enticing as a emulation machine. I'm still waiting and watching the waves on that front though.
In this sale or in general?
This sale I got the dock since it was like $20 off.
It'll be 50/50 a replacement for my steam link since Valve (Game publishers) don't let you stream any game to it anymore. >But you can't play it in stunning 1000000000p with high resolution super texture technology that modern human eyeballs can't even see
Don't care
It's an issue because the Remote Play Together thing sort of relies on a publisher specifically okaying people using it.
So games that are disabled on that don't run as well or refuse to run on Steam Link.

Looks like I'm only using this for indie stuff. Holy shit the fans are so annoying. Why did you homosexuals constantly downplay how fricking loud the fans are?
The loud fans are a huge pain, the quiet fans are noticeable at high load and kind of annoying, but it's a long way from quiet.
At lower TDP (think 11-12 and below) you probably won't hear them at all.
They shouldn't be so loud that they prevent you from playing, but if it's that bad just use headphones, change the game's settings or use a utility that can adjust the fan curves.
i'm debating making a 'giga' deck with 2tb internal, PCM cooling pad, deckHD screen, and a transparent shell
but at the same time i'm going to feel REALLY fricking stupid when valve just announces deck 2 with all those features and i wasted all that dosh and man hours
Realistically?
Why would they have a new version when it's still selling ?
Plenty of countries doesn't even have it yet, so the market is still untapped.
because it was already confirmed by valve that deck 2 won't have any actual performance upgrades, and a smaller form factor would do really well in asian markets
Probably at least 2-3 years.
They clearly want to let it stay out for a while so people can aim at it specs wise, but they also seem busy on the deckard which should be next year maybe?
Then consider that they won't want to interfere with sales on their own devices and it'd probably be at least another year out so they can actually focus on that and whatever else they're doing right now. (assuming it sees the light of day)
If I remember right there was a commit to an offivial Github related to the Steam Deck related to some newer chip. I can't remember if it was for SteamOS or what. So most likely two years at least.
I've gotten one for emudeck purposes, but wanted to be able to use it to run any pirated game I have, but I cant seem to get proton to work for anything that isn't native steam games or basic programs. Idk what I'm doing wrong bros. Also is there any easier way to change artwork for your roms on the deck than the decky plugin?

those were linuxgods in general also works on my machine:)
You have to make sure you do that, not pretty sure. Use different versions of proton, especially downloading and using ProtonGE. Doing it that way is no different from how any other steam game runs. If you're having trouble always look up the program you're having trouble with, there's a good chance someone has gotten it working.
Like it took me a while to figure out how to get fightcade up and running, but the solution ends up being pretty simple and I found and put a script in there that autodownloads and runs any game on fightcade that I click on and it all just works. The little bit more effort I put into looking up and getting things working on the deck ironically makes them more convenient and powerful to use, like emudeck as well. >Also is there any easier way to change artwork for your roms on the deck than the decky plugin?
I know there's alternatives, but I ended up going with decky loader to have more control over exactly what I want. But you can try this
https://github.com/SteamGridDB/SGDBoop/releases
>fightcade
are you using the flatpak or the linux version downloaded from their site?
for whatever reason the flatpak hard crashes if I try to chat in fullscreen and it's really annoying
that was what I was going to do until they made the 512gb 20%off and I could buy it purely with steam wallet instead of buying a 1tb ssd for $150 which is the only 2230 ssd from a legit retailer in my country
can get 2tb for that price in the states
a 512 ssd is like $30

still saving a frick ton by replacing it yourself and getting a screen that you can actually protect with a screen protector since the anti-glare glass on the 512 either worsens or nullifies the effect completely

The prices are still the same today. I was looking at how much it would cost. SK Hynix and Kioxia, which are cheaper since they're supplying all the chips, are both the cheapest reputable SSDs, and a 512GB is still $50 USD.
I've always wondered how much people actually make off the CSGO and TF2 drops and if it's worth going for. Some of them seem to sell for quite a bit.
I've just sold off all the cards I've gotten over the years. Probably gotten around 50 bucks that way.
you make next to nothing unless you get really lucky, its a slot machine by design and the millions of people who do get jack shit arent posting about it online.
the stuff you get from playing is like 0.003 cents per week.
real profits come from being a haggling hands-rubbing merchant, or by lucking out on how the item schema gets fricked up on occasion. (this hasn't happened in years because no updates at all)
1st wave. its okay, i dont go out enough for it to be worth it, but playing gta 5 on it with motion controls is neat. i wish more stuff took advantage of its obscene amount of options. the main problem is i already experienced the magic of emulation on a psp, so unless it does anything new its kinda whatever.
I did. I don't really go out much except to work, but I miss the feeling of playing in video games in bed like i did as a kid on my DS. Hoping to emulate that same feel
hmm, no.
it seems to be extremely flopped and shitted from what i have been reading, i will wait for better devices.

Bought it for a one device emulation solution mostly, especially for Switch and PS2, it's been pretty solid for less demanding games like jrpgs and elden ring. Been playing AEW Fight Forever on last two days.
how well does it emulate switch games?
it is a mystery
It is. It doesn't help that your image doesn't begin to remotely answer the question.
i guess we'll never know, huh?
We could, if you would just answer the fricking question.
You will not run ToTK flawlessly on the Deck unless you consider 25-28fps playable
For lighter games like Fire Emblem Three Houses or Diablo III, it will perform identical to the Switch most of the time
You could probably just play the full pc diablo 3 on deck, it runs diablo 4 fine.
yea but the Switch version doesn't force you to connect to online servers so I prefer it that way
You know what, that's fair actually.
They could really stand to have offline modes more in general.
>unless you consider 25-28fps playable
Isn't that what it runs at natively on the Switch?
No, it's a fair bit more consistent than botw even if it has some dips on occasion
On par or better than the switch in most cases. Newer games can struggle until the emulator improves.
im OBSESSED with making controller configs for old PC games that dont have controller support, so far ive made controller configs for these games:
>KARDS
>Legend of Grimrock 2
>RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe
>Age of Wonders Shadow Magic
>Silent Storm
>Quake 2
>Wizardry 8
>The Quest
>Jagged Alliance 2
>Sim City 4
>Deus Ex
>Command & Conquer 3
>Company of Heroes 2
>Unity of Command
>Forsaken Remastered
>Civilization V
>Mainframe Defenders
>FTL: Faster Than Light
i even made DualShock 4 versions of some of these configs to play docked
damn that's impressive. nice dude

it's an RE engine game so it should run on fumes, it sounds like you didn't configure settings properly
use blutooth headphones u jackoff or replace the fan its not that hard, the deck is meant to be modded like skyrim or roblox or a jeep
i don't have this issue you might have a defective model
I heard the ASUS one is also very good
It has better hardware, but you will get worse battery life than the Deck itself
and good luck contacting ASUS support when the thing malfunctions
Also runs windows instead of Linux, with all the good and bad that comes with it
I have the ally. I enjoy it. Emulation is great. Was playing ZoE and God Hand with no issues earlier today

>you want to play PC games without controller support in a controller form factor
>you are into emulation in general
you can emulate switch games somewhat decently on your Deck, but if you just want to play switch games, then get a fricking switch
bait anons into buying decks with promises that it can emulate switch games full speed and play pirated video games
those were linuxgods in general
also works on my machine:)
But you can try this

>fightcade
are you using the flatpak or the linux version downloaded from their site?
for whatever reason the flatpak hard crashes if I try to chat in fullscreen and it's really annoying
yep managed to sell enough of my old CS:GO and dota items to buy the 512gb version
>bought the objectively worst version of the deck
moron
>worst
so what is the best version
64gb and upgrade the ssd yourself and save over $100 easy
that was what I was going to do until they made the 512gb 20%off and I could buy it purely with steam wallet instead of buying a 1tb ssd for $150 which is the only 2230 ssd from a legit retailer in my country
can get 2tb for that price in the states
a 512 ssd is like $30
yeah I know, I looked at aliaexpress ssds as well but the risk of getting a faulty one, the shipping time, and import taxes on top made me reconsider
yea that site is giga sus
>a 512 ssd is like $30
Not from a reputable brand.
this is like the most you will ever pay, and this was nearly a year ago
still saving a frick ton by replacing it yourself and getting a screen that you can actually protect with a screen protector since the anti-glare glass on the 512 either worsens or nullifies the effect completely
The prices are still the same today. I was looking at how much it would cost. SK Hynix and Kioxia, which are cheaper since they're supplying all the chips, are both the cheapest reputable SSDs, and a 512GB is still $50 USD.
Waiting for the second model like a sensible consumer
deck 2 is already confirmed to be flopped and shitted
waiting for deck 3 personally
I made hundreds of steambux from selling glitched crates thanks to TF2 intern, so yes
I've always wondered how much people actually make off the CSGO and TF2 drops and if it's worth going for. Some of them seem to sell for quite a bit.
I've just sold off all the cards I've gotten over the years. Probably gotten around 50 bucks that way.
I bought a Valve Index, a steam controller, Knuckles controllers, and like half my Steam Deck off of tf2 items.
Damn. How many years of playing TF2 is that?
I've been playing TF2 since 2007, but specifically the items I traded for I got in around a month of trading.
you make next to nothing unless you get really lucky, its a slot machine by design and the millions of people who do get jack shit arent posting about it online.
the stuff you get from playing is like 0.003 cents per week.
real profits come from being a haggling hands-rubbing merchant, or by lucking out on how the item schema gets fricked up on occasion. (this hasn't happened in years because no updates at all)
bump
Ah yes, SteamDeck is so shit that their LR bumper have issues and break easily.
how's xcx performance on deck
shit, flop
I did and I have no fricking idea what to do with it, I never leave my house, and I'm too used to keyboard and mouse
>I never leave my house
Pretty much the same, but I enjoy simply playing it around the house. On the pot and in bed is just too good.
waiting on mine to arrive in the mail. leaf here. really just wanna play street fighter 6 matches online at work.
how's SF performance on deck
World Tour mode runs fricking horrible on the Deck and you have to cope with 30fps but it runs very well in matches (60fps at medium settings)
I'm posting from one
It's my only computer
1st wave. its okay, i dont go out enough for it to be worth it, but playing gta 5 on it with motion controls is neat. i wish more stuff took advantage of its obscene amount of options. the main problem is i already experienced the magic of emulation on a psp, so unless it does anything new its kinda whatever.
yes it's pretty b***hing
>got one and immediately finished comfycore kino indie games in my bed
>now use it to binge king of the hill and one piece
thatdangolonepieceitellyouwhatmanthatthingisreal
Just how bad is the screen? How does it compare to a V2 Switch? Not interested in using Vibrant Deck.
I did. I don't really go out much except to work, but I miss the feeling of playing in video games in bed like i did as a kid on my DS. Hoping to emulate that same feel
Managed to get my order in for one. What dock do I get? The official one seems a bit overpriced.
No because I'm not a homosexual or a transsexual.
