It's basically a "You live, but you lose basically everything" ending that could potientially set up V in the sequel, either as the MC or just a random character you can find.

There's more to it than that. The inversion of the player character's importance, the removal of player agency, the sense that other characters have moved on, the bittersweet nature of survival, it was all really well done.

Most "friends" that V "lost" he only knew for a few fricking weeks. Everything had happened in the span of those few fricking weeks. The idea that he lost "everything" and his live is over aftermere 2 years is so fricking funny and stupid. This ending is a fricking happily ever after tier. Anyone considering it a "bad" end is moronic.

When you think about it - how is that ending different from corpo/nomad V's prologue ending? It's literally the same shit, a new beginning. Misty even brings it up that it's not the first time V's starting things anew.

Pretty much. V didn't even know most of these "local legends" that Jackie was rattling off.

The only person who got a bad end as a result of V fricking off and not dying is Viktor, and thats the game trying to shame you because Zetatech took over his business. How the frick is that your fault? You couldn't have done anything about it. It would have likely happened in the endings you die too.

        Panam? Dumb bawd.
        Judy? Really dumb bawd.
        Kerry? Who cares.
        Johnny? 100% total prick.
Arasaka? Never really had a reason to pick a fight with them, technically you started it.
Takamura? Well, too bad. Thanks for pulling me out of the dump, but I would have crawled back to safety or something on my own maybe if I didn't get in a gunfight with a cyborg ninja on the way out of there. Your existence was some level of proof to your story anyway.
Rogue telling me not to come back to the bar because my legend would dim? Who cares. My "legend" was stealing something from some punk arasaka babby. Saving the president and fricking up dogtown was way more notable.

The only alternative is hoping Mr. Blue Eyes helps. He might.

it's just the opposite of "Don't Fear The Reaper" which has V choose the path of a legend.

Dexter DeShawn asks V if it's better to live big and die young or to be a nobody and die old. Reaper is the first, Reed's cure is the second. Up to everyone to pick what they prefer.

IMO, V even without cyberimplants should be able to find happiness anyway, which is what Misty tells him/her. Depending on how you end it V should be very rich. Finding another love, another path is very much doable. It's not as sad as some say but I do understand preferring The Star and riding into the sunset with Panam.

I mean, it sounds nice to end like that but in reality your mind is rapidly degenerating in that ending. She won't even look at you or throw a pity frick at you and you'll fade away shitting and farting on yourself and die of infection caused by bedsores from when you're left on the same shit encrusted mattress for two weeks at a time. but this was already what the devil relic ending was - you get to survive and maybe even have a quiet life, but you've literally sold your soul and are now arasaka property, the negative consequences were immediately obvious because the game spends the whole story showing you how fricking evil arasaka and the relic program is. the cure ending's negative consequences don't really make sense and feel like they were only written in because otherwise it'd be the unambiguously best ending - losing your implants makes sense but being forgotten by everyone you know is moronic misery porn

Only good thing about it is how realistic the scene in which V gets mugged is, i actually felt PTSD and everything in that scene, everything about it was so kino. I like this ending. It's literally a status quo reset and a new beginning and it's only as pessimistic as you allow it to be. People are whining about your love interest moving on, but that's the point of this ending - you start anew with carte blanche. It kinda reminded me of MGS 2 ending with a tinge of Mona Lisa Overdrive and how that book handled Case.

Lower your expectation of internet discourse. There's been hardly any discussion on it because 99% of posters are morons.

It's a great ending, probably the best ending V could hope for.

It's a more grown-up ending than the one in the movie Gattaca. For all the extra problems the new tech may cause, anybody not getting chipped by Musk Technologies in the future is doomed to a sad, pathetic existence.

Does this ending playout at the end of Phantom Liberty or the original game?

If you take the ending at the end of PL it ends the game. If you wait until you have finished the main story to finish PL you can delay it. But you can go straight from after you meet Alt and the voodoo Black folk to dogtown and then complete the game, never meeting hanako or anything like that.

        Anonymous

So, it is likely not the canon ending. Something tells me the next game will involve Alt and Mikoshi. V is likely finished. If he comes back, it will be as an NPC, likely as a rogue AI puppet.

          Anonymous

Probably. If there is another CP game (and there likely will be) I bet he'll have references scattered around but nothing definitive.

The only base game ending I could see sticking was the one where Mr. Blue Eyes wanted you to go after the crystal palace, and I'd agree with you.

The most interesting thing is how it is a 2 years flashforward and not of the events involve V personally, so it is likely the default future. The only difference seems like Alt doesn't get Mikoshi and NUSA being extra powerful thanks to Songbird

Even matters not directly relating to V show just how little effect anyone has on this world. Reed is kicked upstairs to desk work and is cut off from any updates related to Songbird (who is now facing a fate worse than death, but she's also likely to end up as a rogue AI sock puppet in her ending anyway). The supposed Big Bad of the main game, Yorinobu Arasaka, is revealed to have been removed from power rather anticlimactically by a unilateral decision to just have him disposed of despite being the CEO and heir to the company, with the most damage done being that Arasaka is forced to secede from Night City and relocate its primary focus to Japan exclusively. Arasaka's departure, in turn, only creates a power vacuum that is quickly filled by Militech and numerous other Corporations, with the ensuing chaos ultimately benefiting Myers' dreams of fully restoring the Union under the NUSA's auspices.

      Anonymous

Yorinobu was never a bad guy. It was Hanako that was the bad guy, V just never bothered to ask what Hanako's and Yorinobu's long-term goals are, so he just potentially sided with the bad guys like an idiot.

I feel like some parts of the tower ending will still be canon to some extent, like yorinobu eventually relinquishing power since every ending besides devil, he grieves over his dead sister and grand niece who planned to over throw him and thus arasaka being #2 now that NUSA is back to being #1

      Anonymous

Most likely. Even the vanilla storyline is V personal story. Nothing you do matters in the grand scheme of things. All the endings are the same except for the one where you side with Arasaka.

No one liked the ending. It's basically a huge frick you like collisto protocol's dlc so of course no one is talking about it.

As for the whole "protagonist becomes normal" angle its been done a billion times in other media.

I liked it. The only part I didn't like was having to screw over SoMi to get it. V needed to be humbled a little.

I find it amusing how a monster like Adam Smasher is serving a good guy like Yorinobu. While Takemura, a more honourable guy serves the Big Bad himself, Saburo Arasaka.

Songbird is doomed no matter the ending you pick. She'll ended up a pupped of Mr.Blue Eyes.

Songbird is a piece of shit and I cannot imagine why V even had the slightest empathy for her. She interjected him in a situation which had an extremely high likelihood of getting him killed, gave him hope which you knew to be false long before she actually admitted it (I did the side with Songbird and then hand her off to Reed ending, which was extremely stupid too), and tried to kill the president, who might be an ice cold b***h but played it straight with V and who he had no reason to hate or want dead. She betrayed her, she betrayed Reed, she was actively betraying Hansen or whatever the guy's name was. The degree of empathy V had for that moron was uncharacteristic.

Yeah, the character was all over the place for me. I feel like there was never a moment when you could actually talk to her, the only time when she's 100% genuine happens seconds before she passes out, so you're left unfullfiled. Need that final escalation and emotional release.

The Tower ending is literally for cucks. You either raid Arasaka Tower alone, or you don't do anything. The only person that actually has your back is Johnny, and in the end , you're essentially fighting alongside each other.

      >The only person that actually has your back is Johnny
I respect this DLC just for putting Panam Black folk in their place and retconning her into as much of a transactional fickle c**t as every other love interest in the game

But honestly the best person in Cyberpunk is this c**t, which is hilarious because she won't shut the frick up herself about what a greedy sociopathic piece of shit she is yet when the chips are down she literally always does the right thing

Extremely based Rogue chad. Female Simps in videogames are extremely rare, the fact that she not only dies for Johnny/V, gives her kino character development because she redeems herself AND you have the SUPER KINO scene of her telling Johnny he doesn't care about anyone so there's no way he's raiding Arasaka to save V's life and you can say "i've changed" it's like AHHH SUPER KINO AHHH

This would be acceptably juvenile writing if they didn't go out of their way to make all of the other more "moral" characters much less than 100% loyal
What the frick were they thinking

It would be trivial for all ending but the Devil ending to be mixed into one. All you have to do is for Mr. Blue Eyes to give Songbird's cure to V. This still would result in V becoming allergic to military-grade cyberware forcing him to retire and become a fixer.

The only bad thing I found in the new ending, other than the contrived misery, is that the game seems to subtly reference It's a Wonderful Life. Where V not being in his friends' lives for 2 years caused them all to go down a bad path. It kinda makes sense for Hanako and Takemura since they don't have you to do most of the heavy lifting with their little coup but with everyone else, it seems forced.

I dunno, Judy's happy with her new life. So is Kerry. It just so happens they don't give a frick about you anymore. Only River has go down the bad path. Vic and Misty are just trying to adapt to the new reality and Panam is just having a woman moment.

It's the equivalent of the quiet life for V. But what makes it tragic is V has to sacrifice most if not all the relationships they made during their merc days.

Lot of people say V is a cripple but I think it's not accurate. Cripple would mean they lost the function to being normal.

In truth they were never normal to begin with after the lifepath change, they had implants and "Abilities" that appeared out of thin air when completing a quest/gig. Now that they've been cured, it's like how they originally were in their lifepath.

Hard part is actually CDPR writing kinda fricked up and retconned lifepaths making a big difference especially in the endings.

If it was a Streetkid V, there's still likely enough dirt V collected that allows them to become a decent fixer.

If it was Corpo, V could have had a desire to join Reed as what's the difference really between a Corpo and a Government Agent

If it was Nomad, V would probably return to the City but end up being a delivery driver as they gave up on two families already. Bakkers and the Aldecaldos.

In the end it's really because CDPR never returned full circle on lifepaths that leaves me feeling sour about the ending. They advertised it to be important, at 2.0 and the dlc they were really gunning to fix it. Then the dlc gets released, and the new ending doesn't care about how lifepaths could still tie in.
