Did anyone else here not enjoy the original BW but love BW2?
Replaying again since 2014 and idk it just clicks for me, the amount of mons, the story; the lore, the vibes etc it’s a top3 for me but I didn’t enjoy BW1 at all

Pokémon Crystal Clear was the most disappointing thing since my son. I mean, how much could you possibly frick up an open world version of Gen 2? And while my son eventually hanged himself in the bathroom of the gas station, the unfortunate reality of this hack is that it'll be around. Forever. It will never go away. It can never be undone. If someone under the age of, like, 20 says that his least favourite hack is Clover because it was "the most boringest one", then I suggest you hide this thread before I carefully explain how much of a fricking idiot you are. So where do I possibly start? Nothing in Crystal Clear makes any sense at all. Comes off like it was made by an 8 year old. Like Shockslayer finished the game in one sitting, like uploaded it in, and he decided to go with it, without anyone saying it was poorly designed or was a stupid, incoherent mess. At this point who's gonna question Shockslayer, or tell him what to do. He controls every aspect of the hack. Probably got rid of those people who questioned his creativity a long time ago. I also think that everyone just assumed that an open world version of Crystal would be an instant hit regardless of what the execution was. Really, how hard would it be to screw it up? For me BW2 is my perfect Pokemon game, but B/W is also my favorite base pokemon game, and I love the thing they tried to do with it.

BW2 is worse because it doesn't even have the novelty of having only new Pokemon and the story is even shittier than BW's. I have no reason to play it over HGSS or XY or ORAS.
I played BW2 and it was for me the penultimate best pokemon game. The starting city, the bw2 exclusive gyms, the fricking Hollywood studio, it's so much soul. BW1 feels like just another pokemon game.

BW has a much better story and better world building. The champion is also actually invested in the plot and isn’t just some random ass pull only good for shock value. Team Plasma is so much more generic in the 2nd game, it’s so boring and disappointing. BW also has a much better XP distribution, you become overleveled far too quickly in the 2nd game. Only thing I dislike is that fact you have to use its trash regional dex until post game, but that can be fixed with hacking.
Also Hugh is a decent rival, 3rd best in the series (not saying too much given all the shitty rivals) but N is much much better. I also like the intro cinematic in BW a lot more.
I never stick around for the post game outside of challenging the Pokémon league if the game doesn’t let you do that in the main game. I only ever 100% completed one Pokémon game, and it was a spin-off.
The reason I like B2W2 more than BW is because teambuilding in BW is such a fricking chore. The Pokemon distribution in those games is cancerous. You can't find anything of value in the wild until Castelia, which is a good chunk of the game.

Both are better off not being Pokémon games. You can seriously remove the Pokémon in any Gen 5 game in place of some other dumb shit and the map design philosophy would not change like the actual good gens. None of these places are actually built for Pokémon or have remnants of Pokémon in mind when designed. That is why they were initially called bad until the middle schoolers at the time grew up and obtained nostalgia goggles. And the thing they latch on to the most about that Gen has nothing to do with the actual Pokémon but rather the humans. Okay to Mid as a JRPG. Dogshit as a Pokémon game

Everyone who likes Gens 5 or 7 “for the story” likes “story” more than they like Pokémon. Gen 9’s narrative is at least on par with other JRPGs so I’ll give them a pass.

I hate B/W2 because I was never able to activate the memories due to lack of friends and my autism dictates that I only use pokemon from the region I'm playing in and that I only catch them at the first evolutionary stage, and they took away the ability to catch Deino and Golett before the E4.
B/W1 was an incredible experience the first time through and the first cliffhanger in Pokemon history had me hyped as frick.
If they do actual remakes of B/W AND B2/W2, and fix the moronic choices on B2/W2, then THAT game might make my holy trinity of Pokemon games.

i am playing black right now and i gotta say, it is insanely boring
every single route is filled with the same few mons, trainers using the same few mons, it takes FOREVER to level up your mons because of the new exp formula
I don't like BW because Gen 5 has my least favorite designs in the series and i don't care about stories in pokemon games. Being able to use Flygon, Magnezone, Lucario, Ampharos, etc and all the cool post game stuff makes BW2 sooo much better, yeah.

For me, BW is better even though BW2 is more polished. BW has a better story, better antagonist and better atmosphere (It actually made me feel like I'm playing pokemon for the first time again). I love Hugh and Colress, but nothing beats N's slow burn character development and Bianca realizing that she was never meant to be a "strong" trainer. Seeing all those new mons and perfecting your team through trial and error instead of using pokemon you already used in the previous 4 gens.
BW2 feels more like a Complete Edition version while BW feels like an actual pokemon game.

BW2 has incredible music, an actual rival, is challenging to an extent and has a cool evil team while being less diluted with the trash Gen 5 designs. It's my favourite game alongside HGSS and Platinum

I remember lots of people hating BW but loving BW2. I loved both. BW1 forced me to only use newmons but I appreciated how BW2 had that early region map full of babymons instead of the typical bird/rat/bug shit and was a turning point in Pokemon games having better early region diversity.

*Oh forgot to add, the postgame difficulty spike is fricking cancer, You have a level 50 Post elite 4 team and suddenly you're fighting against level 65 teams, even if they're NFEs their pokemon can sweep your underleveled team.

-It's a direct story sequel
-You start in a different city, tackle the gyms in a slightly different order + take on a few new gyms
-You get access to more mons than just the Unova 156
-There's new gimmicks such as PokeStar Studios and the Pokemon World Tournament
-Of course the Kyrurem forms came from BW2 but I think Keldeo's resolute form & the therian genie forms also debuted in BW2

I love and I mean LOVE Pokémon Black and White. I do enjoy Black 2 and White 2 due to how big the game is but the story itself in Black and White is such a classic.
This. Imo playing both in order is an absolute necessity and only completes the experience.
