If you’re not doing it repetitively on purpose, then yes, that is also not grinding. But I am being EXTRA generous to the game and not getting any exp from wild Pokemon at all. The fact that I STILL get overleveled despite that is pretty sad.

When I was around 7 or so, I steamrolled Sapphire with Blaziken and used the daycare to level up an Aron and Trapinch I had caught. Only ended up using Blaziken/Aggron/Flygon by the end of the game, with a water type for hm usage.

The frick is this? Repels are a waste of money unless I'm trying to filter encounter levels (cause you can just run) and trainers award cash upon defeat, which I need to buy Pokeballs and recovery items. Battling trainers is playing the game normally.

I beat her with just my Quilava when I was like 6, she beat me once then I spammed smokescreen the next time. You shouldn’t lose with any other starter
Chikorita has it even harder.
I used Smokescreen too but i just ended uo getting folded because she just used Attract and Milk Drink.
Choosing Chikorita nets you the easiest time in the early to midgame because then Silver has no check against Geodude, which wrecks house with Rock Throw and Magnitude all the way to Olivine. Once you hit Goldenrod you can swap Rock Throw for Rollout, it learns Defense Curl naturally by then, and then you've got a multitude of options.
You can usd Geodude without choosing Chikorita, duummy.
If you pick Cyndaquil, Silver has Croconaw at Azalea Town. If you pick Totodile, he has Bayleef at Azalea. Both will check Geodude, while his other Pokemon are weak to it. Pick Chikorita and he has Quilava, which dies to Magnitude or Rock Throw.

1) It is usually the GS variation people b***hed about rather then HGSS.

But the ROMs was very common, it's a bit like how Japanese Gen II cards (real or stickers) were circulating well before they were released outside Japan.
Depending on where you where Roms could easily be available earlier, like my schoolyard had floppies with a Viatmenese Crystal Tier bootleg Rom of Gold and a Gameboy Emulator on them being traded around like months before Gold and Silver actually had their release. Shit took fricking ages to come over back then, especially for Europeans, i thin GS took like almost a year and a half for them on the top of my head.
