I truly believe that B2W2 was when Pokemon stopped being good, the move to 3D wasn't a mistake since I do enjoy Colosseum so I don't know what happened there.

It surprises me how many people act like they could have just kept using sprites, and while the environmental designs can have issues I would say the shift was worth it just for the Pokémon animations alone. They add a lot to the charm and the biggest issue was them reusing the XY animations for too long, which has been remedied in the last two games.
Just today in a document Emile put out. The two dating wasn't a shock even if Masae seemed to imply otherwise earlier this year, but the engagement absolutely was a surprise. Many seemed to just assume the two dated for a few years and fell apart, but the engagement brings a lot more questions into the picture. Unless it was a slow burn of Emile not committing to the marriage itself or Masae tiring of his behavior, breaking that kind of relationship up is a huge deal. We don't know when the engagement happened either. Was it towards the end or around the middle?

Tried to quit due to the shift to 3d and mega evolutions in xy but my brother got me a copy of x for christmas, so figured why not. I think Legends Arceus was the best game on the switch and it's not even a mainline.

I played red, yellow, silver, crystal, sapphire, emerald, white, fire red, legends arceus, Scarlett. In that order. Never played D/P/Plat or HGSS cuz I didn't have a ds at the time of launch. Got a 3ds for Xmas and was gifted White by a friend to play with him. Only recently did I buy Diamond, Plat, White 2, and Soul silver to finally play but now I'm so busy with work and so burnt out with how shitty pokemon became that I don't even have the desire to play those games. I do believe that the pokemon games reached their pinnacle of quality in gen 5. whether you like gen 5 or not, you cannot deny, its advancements in sprite animation was the best the series had despite how off it can look at times. The amount of content the games had was great. The tournament, the daily sports bowl practice trainers, the time trial ship bouts. There was a lot you could do, and the end game content was there, enough to get plenty of hours more out of the games. I will Die on the hill XY was the deathknell of the series. The jump to 3d came with many drawbacks, and sacrificed much to do so. And then didn't add to them or fix them for years to come... and the content is still lacking.

I think BW2 was the last time the series didn't feel extremely gimmicky and half-assed. It's weird that they've been so desperate to keep the series fresh, yet have refused to make the game people actually want.
