All of the ports are fine except for tlou2. The real reason why these games aren't selling on pc is because nobody ever gave a frick about them in the first place, they sell because they're exclusive and get huge marketing pushes. These ports aren't either, people feel no need to buy games they're not interested in to justify their purchase, and there is no big marketing campaign to convince people to buy the latest mediocre AAA garbage. The only sony port i'd buy is bloodborne, even though I already played through the game i'd be willing to buy it again just to have a 60 fps pc version.

The game apparently didn't sell all that well on PS5 either, only about a million copies which was definitely below their target considering how high budget this game definitely was.
I bought it and am enjoying it, but I can definitely see why people wouldn't be interested in it.

    >Objectively a kids game, yet requires enthusiast hardware, so the only people who would buy it are manchildren like myself
    >It's about cartoon furries in space, the polar opposite of the normiebait typically being released under the Snoy brand now
    >Very easy on normal
    >Was definitely made to be played with the Dualsense controller, which if you're playing on PC you probably don't have

A normie coworker of mine said he wanted a PS5. I asked if he was interested in this game since it's supposed to be one of the big system sellers. He had never heard of it.

1.1 million in one month when there were only 10 million PS5s where 10-15 percent were owned by scalpers.

      >concurrent players
Who the frick measures a games success by that? If it was a multiplayer game then sure but a single player? for all we know a bunch of people bought it and its on their backlog for now.

Right. If people on Ganker actually read the articles instead of just the headline, they would see that they used max concurrent players. In that list, most of the games above it are open world games that take 60 hours to complete. Of course those games will have a significantly higher max concurrent player count.

The game is selling ok on Steam. We know according to the “New Boxleiter” number, the review to purchase ratio on steam for large AAA games is 1:60. With 2100+ reviews on Steam, it sold about 126000 copies. According to steam, about 1250 reviews are from outside of steam purchases, other sales, so the predicted amount is just under 200k copies in under a week.

        Anonymous

1:60 is a very generous estimate.
I've heard the ratio is anywhere between 1:10 and 1:30.

          Anonymous

No if you look at the research, that ratio, it is about 1:30 for all games (A, AA, AAA). Indy games have a much lower ratio about 1:20 because they tend to have a smaller but more vocal and loyal audience. Also, that research did not elaborate the distribution of their data. I would assume it is easier to get that data from small developers than AAA devs since large companies consider sales data as proprietary info, so they are under NDA. As a result, the data will be mostly full of small developers being overrepresented in the data set.

There was a dat set that organized it by 50k to 100k+ the ratio is close to 50-60 purchases to 1 review.

Tldr: the game is selling ok, but not amazing. People just love to fall for outrage and misrepresentation of data and statistics.

The game sold like 1million copies on the PS5 and maybe like 100k or so on steam which is honestly really good for a full price game 2 years after the fact

Sony on PC means they have a wealth of competition in the marketplace all of a sudden, and in most cases aren't "essentials" for the PC gamer. Basically, it shows that the Sony emperor has almost no clothes. I say "almost" because ironically their "prestige" cinematic games do well, since that's not a niche that sees a lot of participation outside of Sony even on PC (besides the meme of "just watch it on Youtube").

Nintendo is just stubbornly conservative and always a good 10 years behind industry standard practice.
They also can't stand the idea of their games running on both hardware (PC) and a platform (Steam) that they themselves do no have full control over

Nintendo is a toy/IP company at this point. They lost all relevancy at the latest when they release the WiiU. They have not made an actual new game since the GameCube era. They just copy paste old stuff and change the color a bit. The only kind of new game was the Zelda game but that was also just a copy of other games mashed together and it is not even a real Zelda game. The newest Zelda game is just another copy of that. Its sad.
Wii was their downfall, killed all the innovative energy.

It's just a matter of mentality. Maybe one day Nintendo will have a younger president who doesn't fear emulation so much or better yet, sees it as a massive untapped business potential.
I mean Nintendo games have already been the most easily emulateable for the past 20-30 years. They can't kill emulation, they cannot possibly remove ROMs from being distributed all over the internet. Might as well make some money out of it. They literally have nothing to lose from putting games on PC and selling them officially

              >If anything Steam will come to the market leader Nintendo.
That's not how this works at all. If a console manufacturer wants to cut themselves off from a huge market, then that's their prerogative, but they're losing sales in the process. They see this as an acceptable loss because they believe it will force some residual consoles sales at which point they have captured the consumer in their own walled garden. Publishers can afford sale losses when they take paychecks for exclusivity deals, but anyone who tries to sell on PC will come crawling to steam or people simply won't buy it. Valve is not in any position where they have to go to anyone for anything.

Valve doesn't need to come begging to nintendo for sales. They have full market capture over digital distribution on PC and more money than to even know what to do with. You fundamentally misunderstand the point of PC every time you bring up exclusives. PC hardware stands on its own. People choose it for reasons like its power and personal freedom.People do not buy console hardware for the hardware, they buy it because they are forced to in order to play exclusives. PC has never needed exclusives to thrive. And Valve doesn't make games anymore because it is simply unnecessary to their business model. As it stands, they make gorillians off of general sales and fricking cs:go skins.

Lots of older adventures or action games. From the back of my head like THQ Nordic or DotEmu releasing some older stuff fitted to modern system, mostly unaltered with some bonus settings to make it look better on modern system etc. Just nice to do and people buy it.

people emulate because they're poor not because it's the only option they have to play specific games. I get it bro I used to steal games when I was a teenager too when I had unlimited free time and no money to spend on anything but I grew out of it.

You are grossly overestimating the value of PC gaming's market. For each 10 billions that Valve makes on Steam Sony alone makes 30 and Nintendo it's like 3 or 4 times that. PC gaming's market is tiny as shit. You put games on Steam, plus their insane 30% cut, you barely make any money because PC gamers don't buy games. They only buy a select few. Like 90% of PCtards attention is centered around CounterStrike and Dota. And for teh record, Steam doesn't even sell more software than the fricking Xbox or PS5!!

          Anonymous

Nintendo makes money because everyone knows that you will never, ever get their games on any other system (emulation notwithstanding).
This means there’s no waiting to see if a port shows up. You either buy it for their systems or you don’t buy it at all.
This only works because they are absolutely adamant on this issue. They know it only takes one exception to sow doubt.

i think about this alot to be honest....sony MS and Tendoo could just like literally print money if they released old games ported over to steam...and it wouldnt even be hard they dont have to remaster them they dont have to do ANYTHING but put it on steam and its free money it doesnt make sense people always say "business' wanna make money" and then they dont take the free money emulation is huge on PC/Phones why not dip your toes into that money pool?

The only real hostage that sony has is Bloodborne, not even people that have a PS5 care for the rest, they simply bundle everything to hell and back and them announce that they "sold" a bunch while people buy their Fortnite/Fifa/Madden boxes, and Sony knows that why do you think they have more than 10 GAAS game projects on the pipeline? Even going as far as buying and funding the new Bungie slop?

If anyone hasn't played bloodborne at this point, they're simply not going to. No one is going to buy console hardware to play them. Rift Apart is much more polished than the PS2 quadrilogy but I do agree that $60 is a lot to ask for a game you can comfortably 100% in about 15 hours.

        Anonymous

Its polished sure but that's because it does almost nothing new. Infact most of the ideas just seem to be taken from Crack In Time with even the rift mechanic feeling like a relabeled version the time travel planets a few times. I don't actually think that's a bad thing for a game in this series but it does make people second guess when you are trying to sell a game at 60 bucks that is shorter and has less new ideas than the previous entries. I think they should have gone for the 30-40 dollar range as that seems to be what people are willing to accept for a platformer these days. I say this of course being someone who did buy the game at full price but that's because I'm a longtime fan who has no interest in the PS5

          Anonymous

I mean same - as much as I like the game it just feels like a retread of the same stuff the series has been doing for decades. I don't mind that personally but I can see why people didn't buy it.

It was always just an extra revenue stream. It shouldn't take that long to port something if the engine has good compatibility already. Days Gone probably took a couple of months to port due to it being on Unreal. Insomniac's engine already had good PC compatibility. The outlier is Naughty Dog's engine which didn't even run on PCs but they need to have it on PCs eventually due to factions 2.

SONY has become more anti-consumer with each iteration. PS1 and PS2 had really great libraries and features like retro compatibility and even a DVD player. PS3 did away with retro compatibility and pushed for a digital market so, unless one was willing to buy the games again libraries got drastically cut.

Then with PS4 tons of games that would have once been PS exclusives made it to every other system. Personally i am a JRPG fan so those were the console sellers for me. Stuff like Ni no Kuni, FF, Tales or Nier were the reason i was their consumer, not stuff like TLOU, Horizon, GoW or Spiderman.

I can`t claim they misunderstood their consumer base though. I`m sure those are nice and all but they are not consoles sellers for me. Even knowing they are now available on PC i`m like "sure, backlog games" but i kind of think the same of indy stuff like the Banner saga so...

It's the same as the other open worlds for the most part. You're not really missing much, most of Sony's recent AAA exclusives have played very similarly so if you've played one then you've played most of them, only the skin is different.

PC has tons of games and it gets tons of games. It's extremely competitive. A console ecosystem that adherents have to buy into is a far safer space with far less competition. It's one of the reasons Nintendo is terrified of bringing their games to PC as well, despite the easy money. They know full well it'd devalue their IPs.

  92. 9 months ago

People buy Sony games on console because there are no games to buy. People don't buy Sony games on PC because 750 games come out per month, 100 of which target specific niches, with 90% of them costing less than $30.

Sony didn't even release the most hyped 3D platformer with an animal/furry mascot of the month on PC, let alone anything that people cared about or wanted to spend $60 on. The grim truth is that Sony games won't pass on other platforms.

once you become a pc gamer, there's not really anything additional a console can offer you. a lot of the games built for console are just kind of bad and without as much depth or replay value compared to games made for PC/online.

People don't want to waste money on shitty and mediocre movies - only legitimately good ones or the big "hype-events" like Mario, Spiderverse, Barbie, Oppenheimer, etc. And there's really no need to waste $20 at a movie theater when its going to show up on streaming services in a month or so.

To be fair, the theater experience is always a thing, but in order to hold its own, you have to be completely devoid of phones. Everyone around you, and especially your own.
Most theaters just don't make a point of enforcing that like they should, so the experience is pretty crap and full of things that pull you out of the ride.

    >0 mods
    >$60
    >Can be bought used for $25 on PS5
    >No appeal to the normies like nu-GOW or TLOU
What did Sony expect to happen? Anyone dedicated enough to still give a shit about R&C already played it.

Ratchet and Clank games are underwhelming.
    They're kids platforming games.

If they published Bloodborne or Demon Souls on PC they'd sell almost as much as Elden Ring did.

    What were Sony thinking?

Oh my god what is the fricking point of this board? The thing that gets me the most is that Gankerermin shitstains will spam completely worthless threads like this 10 times an hour and then unironically turn around and complain about wojaks or something as if there is ANY sort of quality standard in this shithole. It's just sad and pathetic.

picrelated would sell like hot cakes if they ported/remastered it for PC and released it on steam for a decent price, 20/30 bucks at most
I may be biased because I am a sci-fi fps nut but just porting the 3 campaigns without even the multiplayer it would still sell and make them literal free money
all they need to give it is 4K resolution support, uncapped framerate and raw mouse input
thats literally all they need to do
but they refuse to acknowledge these games even existed because they do not fit in the current woke globohomosexual media agenda because they have a straight white male protagonist and no LBGTroon/diversity propaganda shoved in them
to them it is much more important to remake and re-release Horizon and TLOU for the 5th time or something instead of porting good classic PS3 era games

    Because of following:

    >games are too expensive now, why bother buying a sequel (no access to older games in the series btw) when there’s older games on sale plus free to play games too?

    >The Ratchet fanbase is small for a niche exclusive series now considering Sony didn’t make a new game last gen apart from a pseudo remake based on a tie-in movie. I have a feeling any R&C fan who wanted to play the game, already played Rift Apart

    >Audience for PS5 is generally an older one like PC and cartoony platformers aren’t exactly best-selling. Some best-selling games on PSN atm are Spider-Man 2, GTA, Sports games, COD and FF16

    >the opposite is the Switch where platformers do so much better and guess what demographic owns the majority?

    >Again, games are too expensive thanks to inflation. For instance, not everyone is going to upgrade their PC for 1 game either and have no issue sticking to what games they own plus like I said. There’s tons of cheaper older games too.

    >Sony like always didn’t market this release just like they do with their own games that aren’t movie like games (Gravity Rush 2)

all they need to do is not release ports in the state of the PC TTLOU port that came out of late
literally people with 5000 dollar computers couldnt even break 40 stable fps in it
and with other bugs and graphical glitches all over even for whoever was blessed and managed to play at 60 fps
      this is literally fricking unacceptable
especially when stuff likee the Days Gone port ran perfectly even on not top of the line setups and was near free of any glitches while still looking gorgeous
they need to stick their head out of their asses and give competent dev teams to do the ports and not moronic monkey diversity hires who cant code worth shit

I'm just not paying more than $10 for a Ratchet and Clank game with Rivet in it. The title characters are being exploited to get the shitty girl power character the spotlight. Nobody would buy a Rivet game except for the homosexuals that jerk off to furry creatures, despite what they delude themselves into thinking that's a crazy niche fetish and regular people hate them.

    $10 is my price.

Stop fricking charging $60 for 4+ year old games, that would be a start
Did they seriously think pc players were gonna pay that much for fricking Returnal and Ratchet and Clank?
Spiderman was a weird exception and mainly sold because that was the only port where sony actually paid for the storefront ad when it released

Days Gone port run perfectly because it was ported by people who actually can code
and its the only Snoy game I have on my Steam account
the recent TLOU port was done internally by Naughty Dog with support from Iron Galaxy
tell me if that aint a mother fricking recipe for disaster
literally coded by moronic diversity hires who have no clue how to code
they fricking used the 'export to DX12' API for the entire game even when Microsoft stated clearly it should only be used to render 'simple 2D scenes because it is incredibly heavy on performance'
and what did those idiot monkeys do?
use it for the entire game render
even when there was literally zero reason to make it run in DX12 to begin with
they could have just used DX11 just fine and the game would have ran like a charm

because they don't start at 1.
why tf would i play the 4th installment of a series (uncharted) if I haven't played the other ones.
same applies to ratchet & clank.
and sackboy we don't even talk about.

Violating release parity is the kiss of death, especially on Steam. If you aren't there on release day when the game is relevant you literally snoozed and lost.

The thing is, on PS there isn't much choice of games to pick so, an ok game like God of Cutscene feel like a masterpiece but, on Steam, there are far greater games to play than Sony overpriced garbage games

The recent sony ports absolutely reek of desperation just bc death stranding sold and got reviewed pretty well on steam (both versions)
Sony doesn’t seem to understand steam that well tho, you gotta make sure that people know exactly when a port is releasing and they just don’t do it. They did it for spiderman with a massive storefront ad which workd and then they just assumed people would continue CONSOOMING which is just not how steam works. I literally didn’t even know there was a returnal port until this thread
