Oblivion was better plus there are mods that add all of Skyrim and Morrowind plus a frick ton of other areas. Mods that let you fly dragons, and have fights in the sky with other dragons.
Oblivion was sooo much better, plus all the sex mods were way better too.

Skyrim is a childs game compared to Oblivion imo.

If you want something to break your addiction to it I suggest you play ARK.

I haven't played Ark since 2016, is it worth it?

yea man there's tons of new maps and new dinos too.
Plus they are remastering it for UE5 and making Ark 2. But I mean it might honestly be unplayable. UE5 is such a shitty engine that needs basically top of the line graphics card to get a stable framerate not to mention Ark alone takes up almost a terabyte of data. Swap that over to UE5 with higher res textures and you might be talking about a 2 terabyte game with just the base map.

What's the mods to add all the Morrowind and Skyrim?
Morrowind has really cool mods like openMW and tamriel rebuilt and tamriel expanded

There's a bunch I can't remember them all. I had to clear Oblivion out some time ago for space. There's some of the mods on Nexus, some come from loverslab and then to get Morrowind working right you need morroblivion.
Everything needs to have a certain load order, like I said it's pretty time consuming to make it work but when it does it's better than every elder scrolls game combined.

There's mods you can put on Oblivion that make it look better than Skyrim.
The only thing Skyrim really has is better and more fluid character movement. That's really it.
Base games without mods - Oblivion has the better story but Skyrim has better gameplay and graphics.
With mods - forget about it, Oblivion is better without question.

          This
Oblivion was nice because of the quests that didn't involve you being a literal god incarnate destined to save the entire world and every single faction of the game, but the gameplay had many major flaws, like level and difficulty scaling

            Anonymous

Level scaling was the dumbest thing thing in Oblivion that ruined the entire game for me. Instead of scaling the level of every fricking thing with you, they should have made certain enemies and areas impossible to beat at a given level. You know, how any normal game (or real life) not designed by a moron would have.

That’s not true, you start that game out with Patrick Stewart telling you he saw you in his dreams and implicitly trusts you with the amulet of kings, finding his son, and saving the realm even though you’re in his dungeon for unspecified crimes. Then like the first story quests makes you the revered Hero of Kvatch. In the DLCs you also become a daedric prince and an elf genocidal crusader empowered by the pantheon of gods.

I remember feeling disappointed in Morrowind, and reading the in-game books, all they got were the hand me downs. The good part were the daedra, and the bad part it was that they removed the mystery on summoning daedra princes like before. Oblivion was a mess.

              Anonymous

they have been consistently dumbing down most aspects of the game even since daggerfall. morrowind is imo still okay but the games fall of a cliff after that.

skyrim is without copius amount of mods that enchance and depeen gameplay unenjoyable

The thing i can give Morrowind is that, on that year, i remember cooming while battling Hircine, which is my favorite daedra. That and Almalexia quest were good. On Skyrim what i enjoyed were the execution animations and the cheat free magic that it was the thu'um. The rest is... pointless, since you're destined to curbe stomp the game.

in the skyrim i liked the vampire dlc questline the most, it actually gave me the comfy feeling i was hoping to get. but thats about it. i still hate how they removed spellmaking which was great fun in morrowind

as for daedra and their quests they are usualy fun and good (above average) in most elder scrolls games but to me nothing that special.

Oblivion WAS better, but only if you take mods into account.
That saif Oblivion has superior main quest line, with cool twists and overall intrigue. Skyrim is boring in comparison, the civil war is more like a moronic scuffle between teenage street gangs, the dragon shit quest line is just uninspiring.

Mods make Oblivion both better in graphics and mechanics, while adding lots of new content (such as OOO or MMM mods) and solving the derpiness of gameplay and character design.

Oblivion is larger, more diverse, with better variety of dungeons and ruins. Skyrim is all grey/brown, tundra everywhere, all dungeons are the same albeit better looking than Oblivion ones.

Anyway TES games shouldn't be compared out of the box - without mods none of them are worth playing to begin with.

Oblivion had better quests and dungeons but you had to mod it to make it playable. The leveling system was straight up moronic and if you did it wrong you could end up with with basically a broken game with dmg sponge rats because of level scaling. Skyirim was better out of the box.

Hell it took until the unity remaster of daggerfall for the game to be able to read the height map data in the game world. It was never intended that the map be totally flat but the vanilla engine is incapable of reading the file properly.

The fact that Fallout fans desperately want new games while Elder Scrolls fans never keep asking for TES6 really makes you wonder

TES6 will almost certainly be bad, there’s no conceivable way to follow up on Skyrim without just making the map bigger or spending a whole decade making quests by hand. That’s even assuming you don’t manage to poz the setting. GTA6 will be garbage but people will eat it up because le wacky humor and multiplayer but if TES6 isn’t a RPG that can last 20 years and not piss off autists it’s fricked

Morrowind's lore is awesome and it has some much more fleshed out role-playing options (e.g. the dialogue), but it's objectively a much worse game in pretty much every other respect. If you take off the rose-colored glasses it's got a lot of really janky issues that were fixed. Oblivion is a halfway point obviously. For example the jank way that leveling/sleep was handled which requires tediously keeping up with leveling, completely undermining the whole "level as you use it" idea which was subsequently mostly fixed in Skyrim. Some things in Skyrim are still jank like needing to make a billion iron daggers for smithing.

There are definitely a lot of things to love about those games, but when so many people disagree with you (pretty much everyone not nerding out on gaming forums would order those three games the opposite) you should step back and ask yourself why. The answer is that you're ignoring the massive shortcomings of the older games because you played them when you were a kid or 16 and stoned or whatever.

Holy shit, the masses think something is good?! We all know that quality is the interaction between a mass of idiots and what they're consuming. Just like Avengers and Wonder Woman were masterpieces of film! There couldn't possibly be reasons why someone could like Morrowind more because they absolutely improved everything in Skyrim right?

At the time Morrowind came out, it blew everything out of the water. Oblivion was awesome as well. Would probably be more popular than Skyrim if it came out at the same time with the same graphics. Controls are better.

Skyrim's best version is post Creation Club. Survival mode makes food not junk and makes the game harder like Morrowind.

Skyrim would play better if it had ESO's controls. Skyrim is great but I wish it played like Elder Scrolls Online. ESO has the best control scheme in the Elder Scrolls franchise.

A game as fantastic as Skyrim will never been seen again. Bloody, visceral. Open racism.

I played it through at least 4 times.

My only complaint about it is the monster AI is the same for all creatures. Spiders, vampires, humans, all have the same behavior.

      Anonymous

I enjoyed that they largely presented racism as part of the immigration issue, and not in an overly reductionist way. Lots of people kneejerked to "Stormcloaks bad" but it wasn't really that simple as they presented it.

      Anonymous

It's because the engine can't handle processing multiple types of AI fighting all at once, so everyone gets to share the same AI (except dragons, they got their own slightly different behaviour sets)

That old ass engine would fall apart if it tried to run different behaviour patterns for each unique creature type.

Even minecraft is deeper than elder scrolls. Instead of random quests and caves, it gradually becomes more difficoult, how deep you go. Until you find the dragon that you slay with the equipment you did yourself.

Elder scrolls is just open world and they hired diversity hires to fill it with random stories and scripted yet somewhat random dragon encounters

There's not even a hand to hand Skill in Skyrim, not sure I've ever seen an RPG that terrible to lack so many basic features. What I found strange even with mods there's no way to have anything like vats I just want to be able to pump a few arrows into somebody without having to play flinch gaming. Normally in an RPG you tell your character what to do and then they do it. The engine shows it's perfectly still capable of it with its kill cam but it'll only go slow motion for that. Call of duty flinch feature a killcam.
Fallout 4 is objectively better yet only gets shit on.

Skyrim was weird. The first week of playing it was intoxicating. It felt massive at the time with lots of nooks and crannies and side quests and homes and companions all that. But by the end of the week, or maybe 2 weeks, the flaws become really dominating. The same 5 voice actors, the horiffic melee combat system, the dominance of Enchanting against every other skill, the hideous textures and animations, the copypasta nature of the dungeons, the shallowness of the AI, the awful dialogue. It becomes too much to bear. Only modding could hold your interest, and modding Skyrim is like getting a job.

It has been. If you have Oblivion you can add Morrowind and Skyrim to it with all the quests. Also you can add a bunch of other areas too. Basically the entire world of TES can be added filled with monsters, npcs, and quests. Huge huge pain in the ass to make it work right but if you manage to get it working it's really cool due to modded graphics.

Used to that, uscuros or w/e it was called overhaul, deadly combat, darker dungeons etc. Pretty easy, then you added more shit like velenwood and all kinds of shit and it started to crash and you spent more time trying to find new mods ans getting it to run then playing the game.

          What are the mods needed?

      >The fact that Morrowind hasn't been remade with a newer engine
But it has. There's literally an entire open source C++ engine rewrite called OpenMW and it runs the game better than the native engine ever did.

Skyrim was just the last peak of late 2000s gaming everything else is subpar. Skyrim wasn’t the best game that would have to be AC2 or Crysis but Skyrim is tiers ahead of any modern video game and you can tell by the seethe in the troonposts.

    >Skyrim peak game
Absolute fricking casual. Skyrim is a fisher price RPG with a luckluster story.

Oblivion has a broken leveling system and ruined Cyrodilll. I want moth-priests and rice fields as well as a Nibenese/Colovian divide. Not generic medieval fantasy. The main quest is really cool when you figure out the hidden meaning behind it.

Morrowind is the superior game out of the three 'modern' Elder Scrolls games, and is the best game in the series in my opinion.

Skyrim isn't even that beloved beyond tiddy mods anyways. The engine is great for modding, but that's the only thing it has going for it. Considering Morrowind now has an open source engine, it is a matter of time before it competes with Skyrim and wins. And, Skywind is actually showing significant progress.

Basically, Dagon WANTED to lose. His whole plan was not to take over Nirn, but rather to engineer a complete wipe-out of the Septim dynasty. This is because Dagon is the Daedric Prince of War and Revolution.

And, the kicker is...he got exactly what he wanted. The Empire has fallen into disarray, warfare is common. The strife and conflict even has spread to Skyrim with the civil war there.

Dagon won if you play the main quest.

This is why he was brutal towards the Mythic Dawn by the way. He despises them for being bootlickers instead of embracing Dagon's actual dogma. Dagon wants chaotic types that rebel against authority, not worship Mankar's ass. And, the fact that they don't even fight back against their torture pisses him off even more.

PatricianTV talks about it in much greater detail and better than I do, but yeah. The main quest had so much potential. It just needed those subtle points to be less subtle, and to make Mankar an Elven extremist who wanted to restore Ayleid society, complete with Daedra worship, instead of making Ayleids only relevant with the Knights of the Nine DLC.

The world on the other hand, make it like how it was described before Oblivion. The Southeastern half and the Imperial City should be jungles with rice fields, inhabited by tattooed religious Nibenese types. The Northwestern half should be more Mediterranean with stoic, Roman style Colovians.

Hell, if you go by the old lore, the time of Skyrim should have a civil war between the Colovians and Nibenese, considering the Colovians are pretty much diet-Nords and have a massive devotion to MIGHTY TALOS. (The Nords didn't even worship Talos as Talos, they worshiped him with a different name, having their own pantheon.)

Skyrim was a mediocre game. What it excelled at was an ambience simulator. The landscape, the lore, the musical score, the memorable characters and dialogue, the vaguely Nordic-Germanic details carved into axes and armor, the subtle references to medieval literature, all of it adds up to something that really strikes a medieval fantasy note that nothing else comes close to and I actually think it appeals to some of us as Westerners than it might for non-Westerners.

Elder scrolls has probably the deepest lore out of any game franchise. The deeper you get you see it gets less and less high fantasy and more dark fantasy sci fi even, each era the tech gets worse, they had spaceships iirc in the first era. The Daedra are basically Chaos Gods too. I think a game set in the c0da would be amazing.

i miss dagerfall dungeions. imagine what one could do with todays tech in procedurla generation.

im almost tempted to perhaps learn a game engine and apply my programing skills and make some dungeon crawler with expansive and complex dungeions. however i would have no idea how to approach combat mechanics.

but i absolutely loathe the modern dungeon design if you can even call it that.

        its boring otherwise

for example look at dagerfall dungeon. now dagerfall dungeons had problems too by being just spagheti halls and rooms but thats limitation of technology back then. imagine complex dungeon design with versatility and verticality which could be possible today, if only game developers didn't casualize everything and dumb it down for non-whites and kids or women.

Dwemer, ayleid and huge towers where better with the no backtracking. But it made sense because of they where built. Caves on the other hand are a bit different, having all of them loop back to the entrance is just bad foe immersion.

Skyrim was great. I took a week off work just to play it the week it came out. Great experience. It's the kind of game you need to really immerse yourself in. Skyrim and Oblivion were too stale for me. But gameplay of Skyrim was of course very good. Morrowind for me will always hold first place. the only thing wrong with oblivion and skyrim is set ugrids to load 5, which makes objects and complex land features load in like 50 yards away from you, which is ridiculous. it needs to be scalable so that our better computers can utilize their performance. i want to be able to set it to like ugrids to load 15 without it crashing
