TOTK was the weakest 3D Zelda by a substantial margin for exactly the reasons outlined by OP, and I still don’t understand how so many people were high on it for a few months. Aonuma must have been huffing his own fumes to think it could win among people who aren’t über-Nintendo fans. Yeah it isn't that good really; granted, it does have good rpg mechanics, allowing for freedom and dynamic story-telling, which sets the game up for replayibility; the problem, however, is that the game has a bad core story, which lacks creativity and mystery — it is just a cookie-cutter fantasy story.
The character roster is not that interesting — the most interesting characters are given the least work and attention — and the roster is not given enough focus as central aspects of the story, in my view, which is essential for a story which primary alure is that of its characters and their dynamics.
Combat system is mid, and the maps were also mid; the game felt incredibly small.
It is also a typical modern "diversity" slopfest, with every race and every skin colour everywhere: I wouldn't have an issue with diversity in and of itself, but what I do take offense to, is the fact that they butcher what is interesting about the concept of diversity, all for the sake of homogenization, which just removes any sense of wonder, mystery, breadth, and depth to a world and story.
Diversity is done to please the ESG scale, basically, which I find cowardly as hell.
BG3 does not write a good, thought out fantasy setting, and that is my biggest issue; the setting is just as important as the characters themselves.
The game gives me the feel of polished slop: everything is bright, homogenized, safely edgy, crowd-pleasing, wholesome, quirky, and representational of every denomination; no one shall be offended; why would we dare such a risky move?

Some of the shit isn't what I would call safe edgy.
If it weren't safe, the game would be controversial in a negative sense, as Japanese titles with skimpy skinny women are, or that game with the brother and sister.

TotK was the only fun game that’s been released in years and Baldur’s Gate 3 was a shitty boring game that won on hype because of all the streamers and stupid reviewers.
