It would give me a bit of motion sickness, but yeah, I liked it.
Yup, I love it.
I've been seeing posts like this a lot these recent weeks. Is it all the same shitposter, or are zoomies somehow grown weaker?
I've been experiencing a weird bug in Half Life 2 Update where combine sometimes just stare at you instead of attacking. I thought I was getting some of them by surprise, but nope. Some of them just look at you in firefights like deer in headlights doing frick all.
>Half Life 2 Update
That's a fan mod. Not official release.
And some of its changes are stupid. Not surprised that it would have bugs.
What changes? I only use it over the main game because the official patches have fricked over multiple aspects of the main game.
zoomers don't go into game settings and they got used to extremely low default fov's from modern games
No shit.
>assassin ninjas
haha SMG nades go bloop
>haha SMG nades go bloop
As much as I love headshotting them with the revolver, smg grenades and maybe even rockets really are the way to go.
Kind of weird you only ever see them twice though, and the second time is even weirder because they're clearly there purely to stop Freeman from entering the reactor to actually STOP the invasion.
At least you get to fight them more in Opposing Force.
Who hired the ninjas in the first place? Humanity was smoking that NUT SHIT with how FUBAR the HECU plan turned out
If you play Opposing Force (and consider it canon, which you should) then they're revealed to be the CIA who consider the to be military dead weight failures due to getting their asses kicked by aliens AND a nerd in power armour.
I have no idea how I fricked up that sentence so hard, but either way it's just another case of US agencies hating each other.
I did play Opposing Force, but the most I got out of it was G-Man having a laugh at how stupid humanity is. I must have glanced over the spook vs. spook aspect somehow, I think it was the final fight that fricked my memory of the game. I played Blue Shift too but I retained more of that somehow despite it being short as frick and not critically relevant.
>If you play Opposing Force (and consider it canon, which you should)
Stopped reading right there. Nice try Randy.
It's the only good thing b***hford ever did, and I'm giving him credit for at least that.
Episode 3 (Epistle 3 as Laidlaw leaked it) would have given us a better glimpse at the wider universe of Half-Life. HL Alyx retconned Episode 2's shit cliffhanger ending so VALVe still might have a trick up its sleeve. G-Man should only be explained at the tail end of the story after Freeman completes his real goal (whatever the frick that is)
meant for
G-Man made me frick that up
>because they're clearly there purely to stop Freeman from entering the reactor to actually STOP the invasion.
i doubt the scientists called the military to let them know their plans, plus they all believe he triggered it so for all they know he could be trying to make it worse
It's my favourite game of all time. I replay it and the two expansions every summer.
Half Life 2 isn't bad, either. But it's not as good as the original since it's barely related in any way.
>No Xen wildlife
>Only fighting guys in gasmasks and the occasional headcrab/zombie
>We're expected to believe almost the entire cast of weirdos were our co-workers back in Black Mesa, and that these goofy shits managed to get away from both the invasion and the HECU somehow
At least Barney's presence makes sense, since you play as him in Blue Shift. It still makes me want to know what happened to Rosenberg though, and no I don't care that Laidlaw says OF and BS aren't canon. His ideas on canon are stupid, considering he's an author and honestly thinks it shouldn't be a thing.
Yes. I also enjoyed Black Mesa.
half life 2 was a disappointment compared to 1
Frick you, it's my favourite game.
Yes, less of everything, AI dumb as frick. Felt like physics demo.
yes and black mesa is pretty good so far, I got to lambda
My only two issues with BM are the Marines getting utterly shafted in terms of how unfun they are to fight when in the original they're the highlight, and Xen utterly destroying the weird alien atmosphere because the moron in charge of art direction watched Avatar the night before.
The marines are pretty brutal on hard mode
some of the changes to encounters are good, some just make it pretty rough (on hard). The original Black Mesa before they lumped in Xen with had even more brutal marine AI.
Yeah, I only played the original free mod. I'm sure they fixed some of the bullshit aimbot behaviour of the HECU for the official release, but I remember it being ultra annoying at the time and people were only pushing through because of how wowed they were that the project existed at all.
well they fixed the marine AI a good deal, instead of aimbotting you they set up 'muh cinematic' ambushes. As far as I remember there's also a noticeable graphical upgrade from the mod, at least in indoor areas. Someone really cared.
I mostly hate BMS' cluttered, noisy and BROWN visual style, that makes finding the correct path pointlessly difficult at times + the over use of HL2 episode 1 gimmicks.
The guns also feel less impactful, movement is slower, the new OST doesn't impress me, and the cut ares are a big bummer. The hitscan foes with near endless engagement range is also BS.
Xen was simply FUBAR. There is no sugarcoating it.
Oh yeah, the cut areas.
Frick people who didn't like On a Rail. It's a good chapter and cutting out a bunch of it because morons don't know how to play that chapter properly was one of the worst decisions the team made. Luckily, you can patch it back in through a mod, but just the fact that they cut it in the first place is idiotic.
>Frick people who didn't like On a Rail.
My brother from another mother.
>Just curious, did you turn on classic movement?
Such thing was not even an option when I last played BMS. And making such crucial things into post-release OPTION do not salvage it.
>movement is slower
Just curious, did you turn on classic movement? That made the game a hell of a lot more enjoyable for me.
the mp5 and revolver feel kind of weak, yeah
at least in hl2 the smg had 45 rounds and was LOUD and there was an upgrade over that.
In Black Mesa you have to get inventive and toss out snarks when you're swarmed and use your more powerful weapons like crossbow and revolver more
>at least in hl2 the smg had 45 rounds
and in OG HL1, it had 50.
why nerf it?
"muh realizm!"
questionable ethics
the one thing I like is how reloading is done, it's quicker if one is still chambered
Frick Xen was tedious as frick in BM. They said they remade it because people don't like Xen in the original, but instead they just made it like 10 times longer with no real improvements other than more shitty jumping puzzles.
yes, i like it significantly more than hl2
no i rather play doom or blood
one of the best standalone games ever made
original HL is good but I really enjoyed Sven a whole lot more
I wish Hl2 had the same sort of sven treatment (i know about synergy but its not the same) best we get is Gmod I guess
No, it ruined the genre
It was alright. I certainly liked it more than hl2. But I didn't really find either of the games to be amazing, though I do have to give the credit where it's due - the engine is certainly impressive, both graphically and physics-wise.
i like half life
i like half life 2
i like black mesa
half-life raytraced > black mesa
i forgot how good those homosexual marines are at throwing grenades
several times over
hell yeah motherfricker. currently replaying it with mmod and having a blast.
mmod?
new mod on steam that tries to make it flashier, like brutal doom. has a lot of half baked ideas but it's a decent curiosity
its fun. i dont really get why people got so invested into the story its not groundbreaking sci fi. G-man is interesting but all the intrigue would disappear if they explained his motives.
Gman is literally just a tool for the writers to move things around. There are no motives. It's a shallow mystery meant to entice midwits.
Yes
Yeah, it was fun.
Can't say much about HL2 as I only played a bit of it, but it felt kinda lame compared to HL1. The enemies were bullet sponges and the overall setting felt soulless in comparison. Something about the desolate hallways and bases with mostly hostile stuff felt better than HL2's escape sequence game feeling
>The enemies were bullet sponges and the overall setting felt soulless in comparison.
I always felt the opposite, if anything it feels like i have to unload an entire SMG magazine just to kill a single soldier.
I was playing HL2 in hard mode. dunno if that makes it different. Still, maybe it wasn't the bullet sponge thing, but how the frickers have like no pain state. IT as annoying
>Half-Life on hard
There's your problem. HL isn't some big skill based thing, hard mode only makes everything bullet sponges and does nothing else, really. You're meant to play on normal for this one instance.
It's mostly just the SMG and Pistol that are a bit weak. Granted still nowhere near as bad as HL1 Hard in terms of bullet sponge enemies.
Nah, I play it on hard mode as well, the only real difference is with bosses, where they do tank way more than they should.
Soldiers (and antlion iirc) do have a pain state, zombies don't, and most boss NPCs (beside the Gunship) don't either.
>The enemies were bullet sponges
In Half-Life 2? The Combine die in no time at all, they have no health.
>The enemies were bullet sponges
I felt the opposite, all non-boss NPCs in HL2 dies very easily, soldiers and zombies get deleted by headshots, soldiers flinch when hit and antlions can get flipped and die in one-shot.
Meanwhile in HL1 nearly all enemies tank a ton of bullets even if you headshot them.
Prefer Black Mesa but the original is still fun
Too old for my zoomer ass, I'll play Black Mesa instead.
Yes, it remains one of my favorite ever games.
It’s amazing. Now if only half life 2 wasn’t complete shit
I wouldn't say it's shit, but if you play HL2 straight after 1 you do notice how much worse 2 really is in comparison.
The slow movement, the lack of enemy variety, and the guns being unsatisfying is disappointing. But it's also very atmospheric and Source is super comfy.
>The slow movement, the lack of enemy variety, and the guns being unsatisfying
that's why bringing realism into shooters was a mistake and half life 1 was partially responsible for that trend.
I personally think it’s shit not because the slightly downgraded mechanics but the story is fricking awful and the new characters don’t make it better. Alyx is the worst part of the whole game and it’s episodic adventures
I would really like some kind of Black Mesa simulator where they take all the areas seen in HL, OP and Blueshift, as they are meant to be working on a regular day, plus the areas we hear mentioned but don't see, and just let us go around them seeing the sights and tersely nodding to fellow scientists.
HL2 may be worse, but I fricking love the gravity gun and the way they put a tutorial in right before giving you a town filled with zombies to frick up with it.
I've never found Ravenholm scary, even back in the day. It's just an excuse to frick about with the physics engine and use it to kill shit for a whole chapter. The fast zombies are annoying dicks that ruin the fun though.
No, I tried it a few months ago and it was fricking awful the whole way through, except for the middle where it's kinda alright for a bit but still not good.
>awful the whole way through, except for the middle where it's kinda alright for a bit but still not good
Incredible articulation of the issues you had here.
Anon, he's clearly a zoomer.
Articulation is the least of his problems.
