Even went far enough to make a strawpoll, so he can rig it with a program, and hijacked the next OP to remove his writegay stories from the OP. He believed that the guy had a personal Discord server of "defenders" to whiteknight him. The IP wipe revealed it was all the same guy just replying to himself, timestamps show that the posts were deleted to the exact millisecond.
Funniest moment was when one post only had 2 replies that didn't take his bait, so he then replied to himself six times, all agreeing to himself.

This is main problem though. Video games and technology (particularly of the electronics and computer sciences division) are the most liberal, gay, troony infested communities you can find (including on Ganker). So you can really expect to find the same community with video games and anime that you would with sports, gymbros, and even politics.
Keeping this in mind, I dont think the Steam forums are a bad first step. I always recommend finding a forum for your favorite companies and games if you can before going for more "general" and the Steam forums are about as close as you're going to get to a Miiverse like community in that they have forums for separate games.

Daggerfall was the first game I ever spent my own money and I loved it then despite never beating it. 20 years later though it is over rated trash.
