They came out when CRTs were ubiquitous (the first 360 model didn't even have anything but AV out, HDMI came in 2007 models) but by the end of the gen everyone was already using flat screens, games didn't even look properly on CRTs anymore.

Well, duh. They didn't dye their hair like that back then. They did highlights or a few locks of hair, not the whole head unless they were going bottle blond. A girl that was trying hard to be "different" would have gone for cornrolls instead.

          Anonymous

I fricking hate dyed blonde hair. it's the worst. I'd take 5 or 10 crazies dying their hair blue over 90% of women dying their hair blonde.

I definitely prefer natural hair, and I find brunettes prettier as brunettes. They just hear that blondes are more desirable and want in on that action. I imagine most men are discerning enough to not consider fake blondes to be the same thing as real blondes.
I'd rather they go the other direction and dye their hair black. The goth niche is fairly ignored nowadays.

Dude, kids are already having fricking late 00s nostalgia.

How fricking old are you? I don't even remember the 90s because I was 6 by the time they ended. I'm nearly 30.
I got nostalgia more from the early 00s nearly 10 yrs ago, so kids must be getting nostalgic about the early 10s by now.

        Anonymous

I mean actual widely-recognized mainstream nostalgia, not what bunch of kids on tiktok say. We still haven't gotten past the "80s purple retro synthwave" nostalgia yet, and considering Cyberpunk 2077, won't be any time soon.

I kinda feel like the 90s-mid 00s will never have their dicks sucked as much as the 50s and 80s did and their nostalgias will remain centered only around the people that remembered them. 100 years from now people will still talk about the 50s and 80s while the 90s and 00s get forgotten.

and of course, nothing past 2007 will ever be nostalgic...ever.

how come I haven't seen any games or any media with 90s or 00s aesthetics then? were are all the retro-inspired stuff like synthwave and vaporwave?

there hasn't been any media inspired by the 90s or 00s yet.

either 90s-00s nostalgia hasn't started, or they weren't as memorable and beloved as the 50s or 80s.

            >nothing past 2007 will ever be nostalgic...ever.
That's because tech, fashion and economics came to a halt in 2007 because of the GFC and the cartel monopolising marketing and controlling what you think.

            AI is an anomaly.
So is the arab spring and occupy.

            Just slavery.

I'd say it started 2008 but didn't get bad until 2012. late 00s-early 10s imo were peak tech. tech was getting better while still being free and not locked down, and PCs were still the focus instead of smartphones, and W7 and Mountain Lion were peak OS.

Hell, look at Dead Space. Look at the Halo HD remasters (going on for nearly 10 yrs now). I was shocked how bad the original Halo2 looked compared to how it felt in my mind as a kid.
They even brought back Cod Modern Warfare for a remake. MW2 came out in 2009.

the 80s were so chad it became nostalgic and beloved by the late 90s.
meanwhile the 00s still have to be split into parts because nobody wants to bother with 2008-2009, to the point that the term "early 00s" is now being used to mean "the entire decade minus 2008-2009"

Though nowadays people are rejecting that goalpost because they're marketed and indoctrinated by multi-billion dollar conglomerates and their cooperating government agencies to push for the rejection of free speech and their own slavery. No even as a teens people at school were commenting on how games from 2010 seemed not much better than 2005 games.

You forget how fast development happened up until around 2005. We went from snes to Xbox 360 in a decade dude. Even teens notice how little was developed since 2005.
Sure it's more polished now, but many argue that games are worse gameplay wise today because the market is so monopolised and the little guys just don't have the capacity to create games the smaller "big" companies of the early 00s made.

Capitalism is just dead dead now. All it's doing is stagnating the economy now. It's literally driving up inflation based on bullshit financial debt arrangements now. It's not even relevant to consumer interests because people are no longer the consumer. You ain't buying.

I agree. Pop culture is nothing but marketed cults with obscene levels of psychological manipulation by the system.

Though ironically it was Grunge that taught me that, then later metalcore and hip hop.
              And dystopian horror movies.

Do zoomers ever do anything without seeking validation from other people/the internet?
It's ok, you weren't born in the 90s. You don't need to try and fit in by buying a bunch of CRTs.

pretty sure normies from any period seeked validation. it's a normal part of society
and millennials weren't any better in that regard being 30 year old nintendo redditor bugmen.

Millenials and Zoomers are a literally election meme made and designed by sophisticated rackets and deliberately marketed to influence politics and markets. Any divisional categorisation of this sort can and will be used to control how people think.

That's why "ok boomer" emerged around 2016. Literal psyop d&c that paid agents were spamming all over the internet because the internet lost the dems an election and some people a FRICKTONNE of money.

            This is how capitalism works.
            It's just a racket.

People had crts until 2013ish though. Sure they became rare by then, but people were well aware of them and let their kids use them for things like the wii or older consoles.
Some of those kids are only teens.

We didn't have a flat-screen TV in my house until 2011. My dad did get himself a flat-screen monitor in 2007 for CoD4 though.

      Anonymous

We got a CRT flat screen tv waaaaay back in 2003.
      Humoungous.
So fricking heavy too. Weighed a tonne.

Literally threw it away by 2007, got an lcd with full hd. Got a GIANT plasma around 2008ish. That thing lasted until 2021 in the house when my parents replaced it with an OLED.
OLED had problems literally by 2022 and the only reason my parents haven't replaced it is because of how expensive TVs are now. They're suddenly very expensive again because of monopolies on the market and because tech is now just getting shitter. GFC killed any positive innovation in capitalism. Since then it's been nothing but standardisation and think tank cartels calling the shots on "safe design" (though really they are a racket).

        Anonymous

Friend of mine at the time had one of those huge plasma ones in the early 2000s, I think it was plasma at least. I don't know if it was actually HD or not but when your screen is like 80 inches or something 1080 still looks awful anyway. Still it must've been awesome having a screen that huge, we didn't really get to use it for games until way late in it's lifetime though. Think they threw it out only a year or two after we were able to use it ourselves, damn shame.

          Anonymous

We actually needed that plasma badly because the tv was so far away from the screen in our games room.

We used to have a sony trinitron, tiny fricker, in that room around 2001ish. How we managed to see anything on that screen with that distance is beyond me.

That was reasonably sized back then too.
TVs became gigantic in the 00s. People went from 1 family CRT of that size, to giant enormous full HD LCDs, Plasmas and LEDs in the 00s. It's actually crazy how TV development was for that period.

90s nostalgia is hard because there wasn't much of a general 90s sense of style. It was what, regular clothes but baggy? (And I say this as an old gay who was a kid back then.) Sure, grunge had a distinctive style, there was that Matrix style by the end of the decade, but in general 90s style is kind of ordinary. Distinctive in that you can still tell it apart, but ordinary all the same.

Not to mention, a lot of wider 90s culture was that sort of bitter, disillusioned GenX culture that few people really want to go back to. Few people really want to go back to dirty dark grunge rock or the depressing writing of something like Douglas Coupland's Life After God. Only hipsters will dip their toes into things like Infinite Jest. No normal person goes beyond Fight Club.

Oh and nu metal with it's BLAME-esque ness?
      And teen sitcom chic?
      And techno/trance/eurodance?
Heaps of character in the late 90s.

The early 90s was just 70s revival.

Late 00s had scene kids, emo, flash gangsta shit (we call it swag now), metalcore and "indie" fashion emerged around 2009 and shaped the early 10s, until trap and vapor started to eat away at it by 2016ish.
Early 20s was Zion-chic and metalcore revival. And now it's just "slave-chic" because it's all kids can afford and people keep appearances in the big brother world or risk starving now.

God, the 20s are hell. The most tormented period in human history since WWII. Worse in some ways, psychological operation wise.

trance is based but repetitive, techno is annoying and eurodance is gay girly sissy shit.

        >The early 90s was just 70s revival.
which is based because 70s rock was best rock. early 90s failed to capture the 70s but still got its own cool aesthetic, and bands like Nirvana and AIC have actual good music with substance that will be remembered years down the line unlike the GRRR I'M ANGRY FRICK YOU MOM AND DAD angsty shit after 1996.

        >God, the 20s are hell. The most tormented period in human history since WWII. Worse in some ways, psychological operation wise.

70s rock was great, but you're going to have to reply with some albums that compare to the likes of Powerslave by Iron Maiden, Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath, Wheels of Steel by Saxon, Restless and Wild by Accept, and I'm sure I can come up with other albums with more time.
