So, when Chuck owned the shop, it would have been called "Chuck's Frick and Suck".

It was called "On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness" and the first two games were fricking great. It was only when the company they were making them with stopped making it and they gave it to the "C'Thulu Saves the Day" devs that the games became bad.
Shame, the first two were really fun, especially with that random, but earnest early 00's humour.
The first two games weren't what I would call good but they were okay. Both had extremely slow combat that got tired after the first hour and a tremendous amount of backtracking padding.
They were 360 arcade quality games, but that's not really an insult these days. At least those titles were complete experiences.

His little writeups of Largo and Pirogoeth in a D&D inspired MMO world for the paper issues were amazing. Spot-on writing and atmosphere. His fascination with Haibane Renmei and VNs was cool too. It was a great business opportunity. He had to keep megatokyo as a cross-culture strip with anime influences and keep his wanking needs to side content. Make VNs, write a whole book on Pirogoeth's adventures, etc. The important thing was keeping megatokyo the cultural phenomenon it was. Instead he kicked out Largo and turned megatokyo into a shitty romcom by a western neckbeard who wishes he was a japanese anime girl. I'm still so fricking disappointed

I mostly agree, but anyone who's ever done a group project knows what it's like working with someone like Largo... he's part of the team, he's there, he's not contributing anywhere near as much as you do, and trying to work with him ends up pretty much just bottlenecking your progress...

MegaTokyo was the first time I realized I was simply reading a fat loser's masturbatory fantasies. I think it happened around the time the robot girl's breasts began to grow because she was downloading too much or some shit. After a very successful Kickstarter in 2013, Fred and team started development on a MegaTokyo Visual Novel game. It did not go well. Inexperience with game development; Fred learning to delegate and work with a team; major feature creep; a big underestimation of the quantity of artwork required; the realization that only Fred could draw stuff that looked "MegaTokyo"; and lots more. By the time some of these issues had improved, the MegaTokyo comic had been neglected for too long and Fred couldn't afford to work on the game full-time anymore. Fred and team continued working on it part-time until 2017, when the lead programmer left the project and things more or less ground to a halt. Fred has not given up and still hopes to salvage something from this, but what that will look like and when are still unknown.

As of spring 2020, Fred was nearing the end of chapter 12 and the comics needed for the long-awaited book 7, and he also started a Megatokyo side comic called the Tokyo Threat Documenation Project on WebToons.
This could have been a less stressful and more enjoyable life if we as an advanced species that tosses away ass loads of food and have empty homes just fulfilled peoples base needs so they could find a purpose in life that isn’t working for a billionaire.

Eh, it's fine. He's a guy who knows what he wants and he's followed it through. I don't read Megatokyo anymore, I can't even remember what the story was even about, only that in 00's era it was right on the zeitgeist. But I can absolutely respect him for not abandoning it, even though it's practically dead in the water and will never see any kind of success like it did in its heyday.
It used to be absolutely massive, something every online nerd knew, now it's so irrelevant I was surprised to even think about it. And yet he's still kept on doing it for 20 fricking years. It's not making him rich, so you can't even say it's him milking it. It's just a guy telling the story that must mean something to him.

Looks like it got a sequel too at some point. tl;dr - It's the story of a cat lady in training(written by a cat lady in training) who is also a wannabe Dr. Robotnik, who hires a neckbeard to clean her laboratory and ends up falling in love with him. Involves repeat references to the cheap boxed wine she(and her mother(and probably the author)) drown their sorrows with. He actually cut up his thumb really badly and got bogged down in a too-generous like 4 year process of kickstarter fulfillment that respectively changed the update rate from like 2 a week to one a month, and sapped all his motivation. Baldurs Gate II was delivered to me yesterday. The first thing I did was in Gabe-esque style plunged the game down my pants!
Installing the game was the next logical step, well - that and washing up. I gently inserted the discs into my cdrom as the install took what seemed like several lifetimes, although Piro contests it was only ten minutes. No matter! It was done and that BG2 started, the sound begin to surround me, bringing tears to my eyes! I could feel the evil lurking around each corner, I was ready to finally play this game! Then, my system crashed to a blue screen.
Now, after all this, the game finally launches and I re-enter the world I left over a year ago. I played the game for about six hours straight, and I'm still in chapter two. I'd never want to spoil a title like this, so I won't tell of my adventures, though I will say everything Bioware promised about this game is true. It's not tedious, and I've yet to run into a simple 'fedex' quest. The plot easily grips me in like a giant squid to a submarine. I find myself less concerned with the current tasks I must do in the game, and rushing through them so that I can advance the main story.
John Romero's mantra of "Design is Law" seems to take a backseat to what I'm guessing Bioware's mantra, has become, which is "Content is Law". The game has content, the story pulls you in like a best selling novel. I have to hand it to Bioware's writing team, these guys deserve some recognition for their outstanding work. This isn't to say that is the most impressive area, the sound creates the right moods at every moment. The updated engine is a huge improvement, spell effects look great. The voice acting is top notch. Which reminds me, I need to find out the voice actress for Imoen and see if she's single.
What can I say? I'm sold.. I'm hooked.. and Bioware has re-secured its place as my gaming crack dealer.

When you're updating 3x a week over so many years, at this point it's normal you wind up just pretty much doing comics about current events and news, hell that's effectively what South Park has become. But back in the day it was original and innovative, it tried to have characters and a setting, and even small storyarcs and running gags that got called back to. There was a lot of heart and passion that went into it and it absolutely deserved the popularity it got.

I loved their webcomic contest reality show. Watched it back in 2012 or 2013, whenever it first aired, with my first gf. The show even convinced me to go to a few pax conventions which were also great. Now I have no gf, no friends, I'm over thirty, I haven't been to a pax in almost a decade, and I've been on Ganker since 2007. Life was simpler and I want to go back.
