The joke(?) Is that at this point the VGA's are pretty much just an excuse for Geoff to satisfy his odd obsession with Kojima each year and most of the industry/audience just tune in to see basically.

The sign is a subtle joke. The shop is called "Sneed's Feed & Seed", where feed and seed both end in the sound "-eed", thus rhyming with the name of the owner, Sneed. The sign says that the shop was "Formerly Chuck's", implying that the two words beginning with "F" and "S" would have ended with "-uck", rhyming with "Chuck". So, when Chuck owned the shop, it would have been called "Chuck's Frick and Suck".

        >They even made their own game, but I can't remember what it was called, only that it wasn't good.
It was called "On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness" and the first two games were fricking great. It was only when the company they were making them with stopped making it and they gave it to the "C'Thulu Saves the Day" devs that the games became bad.

Shame, the first two were really fun, especially with that random, but earnest early 00's humour.

The first two games weren't what I would call good but they were okay. Both had extremely slow combat that got tired after the first hour and a tremendous amount of backtracking padding.

that's giving dorito pope a whole lot more credentials than he ever deserved, his final form being a show almost purely constructed of commercials. Not that being a gaming journalist is a lauded profession but I don't really count keighley as a serious human being.

Shitty zoomer explaination which is missing the relevant information:

      >Geoff Keighley is the executive producer of The Game Awards
      >The Game Awards occurs like clockwork every year
      >Geoff Keighley is obsessed with Kojima, so Kojima appears at The Game Awards every year to announce whatever dumb shit he's doing next
      >There is some moronic American folklore about groundhogs popping up each year and what they see will determine the change of seasons
      >The comic implies that Geoff is a groundhog who is looking for Kojima
      >There is also some other moronic American tradition of wearing groundhog masks on the day they're meant to pop up, so they filled a 3rd panel with Geoff masks
The actual joke is just vague ribbing at Geoff being obsessed with Kojima and putting him on The Game Awards at the same time every year like the changing of seasons

I had a little girl do this to me when i was a substitute. She came and sat on the bench during recess. She wanted me to watch her throw a ball and I told her she did a good job, and apparently that was all it took for her to start spilling her life story to me and sit really close to me on the bench. Every time I scooted away from her she would notice but not fet the memo and closed the gap. Eventually I had 1/16 of my ass on the bench and the rest was hovering in the air using my legs and she still sat closer to me as she explained how she couldn’t look directly up without fainting because of an injury years ago and how she got cut up because of a lawnmower accident and how no one came to her birthday party and all sorts of stuff.

It was pretty sad, but I also didn’t want to look like a pedo.

Even if you were just a substitute you were still a teacher so nobody would have thought you were a pedo. If anything you probably should have made notes of her behavior like the fact that she'd rather hang out with and talk to a teacher (what elementary school kid wants to hang out with a teacher instead of other kids? Might be worth mentioning to the actual teacher in case she's having trouble connecting with the rest of the class or possibly even bullied)

did you not watch the Madds movie? don't be around kids alone as a male. buy a surplus police body cam if it's unavoidable for some strange reason and have it as proof for when you inevitably get accused of child molestation because it always happens.

Good life lesson. I hope that homosexual has been traumatized and can no longer leave his house without fearing of imminent death, lol.

I think it's more just continuing to scrape the bottom of the barrel for jokes. Not that most webcomics were ever original since they just stole jokes directly from other webcomics if not just going to some forums and directly copying posts word for word (was it VG cats that got caught doing that? CAD? frick if I remember which one).
But yeah in the modern age of internet culture you just steal work that others have already done and slap a new coat of paint over it. I guess the art is slightly better but who fricking cares about comedy webcomics these days? I read a few but they're all story driven.

ENA is basically nonsense that nobody could take offense at because it's, again, abstract nonsense.
There's nothing to clean up there
Also insn't ENA like 3 years old? Zoomers literally grew up with it

I understand you are not forced to actually explain to me what it is but if you made the effort to write the comment why did you make it even more complicated with buzzwords. What is an ENA? Lorefrogs? Pornfrogs? Does this have something to do with Helluva Boss?

Exactly. It's the story of 2 talented individuals making a shockingly relatable comic for early 2000s and catching the cultural ambience perfectly, but getting immediately ruined by one of the two being completely fricking deluded and self-absorbed with talents he did NOT have, while squandering those he did have.

His little writeups of Largo and Pirogoeth in a D&D inspired MMO world for the paper issues were amazing. Spot-on writing and atmosphere. His fascination with Haibane Renmei and VNs was cool too. It was a great business opportunity. He had to keep megatokyo as a cross-culture strip with anime influences and keep his wanking needs to side content. Make VNs, write a whole book on Pirogoeth's adventures, etc. The important thing was keeping megatokyo the cultural phenomenon it was. Instead he kicked out Largo and turned megatokyo into a shitty romcom by a western neckbeard who wishes he was a japanese anime girl. I'm still so fricking disappointed

I mostly agree, but anyone who's ever done a group project knows what it's like working with someone like Largo... he's part of the team, he's there, he's not contributing anywhere near as much as you do, and trying to work with him ends up pretty much just bottlenecking your progress...

The PA guys were lucky they both wound up being so in synch, honestly. Working with someone else on a creative space is hard.

A way to be cool in chatrooms and AIM by substituting letters with numbers

Which no one has used unironically since 2002, which is when that comic is from, yet it's still the header on the megatokyo website

You never see leetspeak anymore, even ironically. The closest would be swapping a letter for a number to avoid a censor, like ni66er, which I don't think really counts. Really flash in the pan internet culture, it was around for a few years and then died instantly.

MegaTokyo was the first time I realized I was simply reading a fat loser's masturbatory fantasies. I think it happened around the time the robot girl's breasts began to grow because she was downloading too much or some shit. It suddenly became very disgusting to me, like realizing the person I've been talking to for the last 5 minutes has been playing pocket pool with himself during the entire conversation.

You might be right, damn. He quit being an architect for this. From the FAQ:

After a very successful Kickstarter in 2013, Fred and team started development on a MegaTokyo Visual Novel game. It did not go well. Inexperience with game development; Fred learning to delegate and work with a team; major feature creep; a big underestimation of the quantity of artwork required; the realization that only Fred could draw stuff that looked "MegaTokyo"; and lots more. By the time some of these issues had improved, the MegaTokyo comic had been neglected for too long and Fred couldn't afford to work on the game full-time anymore. Fred and team continued working on it part-time until 2017, when the lead programmer left the project and things more or less ground to a halt. Fred has not given up and still hopes to salvage something from this, but what that will look like and when are still unknown.

In 2017 Fred started a Patreon site so fans could help support MegaTokyo comic production directly. That Patreon support and subs to his Twitch drawing livestreams have been hugely helpful in letting Fred get back to putting out comics more frequently again. Thank you supporters. But even with that support, Fred had to take a part time job driving a school bus from 2018-2020, which took more of his time than expected and slowed comics yet again. The covid-19 pandemic of 2020 then shut down the schools and put his school bus driving job on hold, which again let Fred start cranking out comics more regularly. It's a small silver lining in the dark covid-19 cloud. As of spring 2020, Fred was nearing the end of chapter 12 and the comics needed for the long-awaited book 7, and he also started a Megatokyo side comic called the Tokyo Threat Documenation Project on WebToons.

Eh, it's fine. He's a guy who knows what he wants and he's followed it through. I don't read Megatokyo anymore, I can't even remember what the story was even about, only that in 00's era it was right on the zeitgeist. But I can absolutely respect him for not abandoning it, even though it's practically dead in the water and will never see any kind of success like it did in its heyday.

It used to be absolutely massive, something every online nerd knew, now it's so irrelevant I was surprised to even think about it. And yet he's still kept on doing it for 20 fricking years. It's not making him rich, so you can't even say it's him milking it. It's just a guy telling the story that must mean something to him.

If what you're doing is decent enough, you'll make enough sales to eventually make a sequel that has all the dumbass elements and bloat you suddenly decided you needed midway through development. It's always better to finish a project than to do the perpetual early access thing until everyone gets bored and quits.

Well, here's one. It ended a long time ago, and the original site is gone, but it has a new one where you can still read it. Looks like it got a sequel too at some point. tl;dr - It's the story of a cat lady in training(written by a cat lady in training) who is also a wannabe Dr. Robotnik, who hires a neckbeard to clean her laboratory and ends up falling in love with him. Involves repeat references to the cheap boxed wine she(and her mother(and probably the author)) drown their sorrows with. I actually read the whole thing back when it was current, so I probably don't have any room to talk.

He actually cut up his thumb really badly and got bogged down in a too-generous like 4 year process of kickstarter fulfillment that respectively changed the update rate from like 2 a week to one a month, and sapped all his motivation. He’s still going and quality’s unironically still off the charts, it’s just so slow it makes you wanna have a nice day.

        Anonymous

        >2 a week
Not since 2010 or even earlier, when Erfworld was still on the site. He was updating maybe once a month even before "the thumb incident" and that shit was 10 years ago at this point. There's no excusing how slow his updates are when it's literally 90% copy+paste jobs and sticking on word bubbles.
        >off the charts
I just want the story to end so we can be done with it and see what his BIG REVEAL is. I can respect webcomics that put forth effort, I still re-read Schlock every couple years because it's fantastic and it went twenty YEARS of updating daily without missing a single day. OotS was fine when it was fresh and webcomics were still big, but it's readily apparently that Rich gives zero fricks and just wants to drag out the money as long as he can.

"Largo" remained to be a pretty cool guy and I think ran as a libertarian for city council somewhere.

It's a shame because Piro's mind is stuck as a 1999 sadboy weeb who needed someone like Largo to kick him in the nads. But he refused to compromise his "creative vision". So because Piro was doing the drawing, Largo was forced to sell his share so Piro could draw comics about his PS2 android frickdoll (NOT CHOBITS!))

Baldurs Gate II was delivered to me yesterday. The first thing I did was in Gabe-esque style plunged the game down my pants!

Installing the game was the next logical step, well - that and washing up. I gently inserted the discs into my cdrom as the install took what seemed like several lifetimes, although Piro contests it was only ten minutes. No matter! It was done and that BG2 started, the sound begin to surround me, bringing tears to my eyes! I could feel the evil lurking around each corner, I was ready to finally play this game! Then, my system crashed to a blue screen.

Now, after all this, the game finally launches and I re-enter the world I left over a year ago. I played the game for about six hours straight, and I'm still in chapter two. I'd never want to spoil a title like this, so I won't tell of my adventures, though I will say everything Bioware promised about this game is true. It's not tedious, and I've yet to run into a simple 'fedex' quest. The plot easily grips me in like a giant squid to a submarine. I find myself less concerned with the current tasks I must do in the game, and rushing through them so that I can advance the main story.

John Romero's mantra of "Design is Law" seems to take a backseat to what I'm guessing Bioware's mantra, has become, which is "Content is Law". The game has content, the story pulls you in like a best selling novel. I have to hand it to Bioware's writing team, these guys deserve some recognition for their outstanding work. This isn't to say that is the most impressive area, the sound creates the right moods at every moment. The updated engine is a huge improvement, spell effects look great. The voice acting is top notch. Which reminds me, I need to find out the voice actress for Imoen and see if she's single.

What can I say? I'm sold.. I'm hooked.. and Bioware has re-secured its place as my gaming crack dealer.

I wonder what Largo thinks about Bioware now, especially after flops like Andromeda, Inquisition, and Anthem.

I laughed, but I have to wonder how old this is. I know it isn't from the last couple years, I remember seeing it back when Obama was president, and I know only the most exorbitantly priced rigs even bothered with 1440p/120fps. Hell I still see people with top of the line PCs still running at 60 fps and 1080p.

Not just that, Penny Arcade defined something like 90% of what a gaming webcomic and really what a webcomic was.

When you're updating 3x a week over so many years, at this point it's normal you wind up just pretty much doing comics about current events and news, hell that's effectively what South Park has become. But back in the day it was original and innovative, it tried to have characters and a setting, and even small storyarcs and running gags that got called back to. There was a lot of heart and passion that went into it and it absolutely deserved the popularity it got.

This, I wish they had kept this attitude:
      https://www.penny-arcade.com/news/post/2013/06/21/well-that-escalated-quickly

      >I woke up yesterday to some angry emails and tweets about a panel at PAX Aus. The panel is going to be a discussion about all the social justice stuff happening in the games industry and if it is making for better games.
      >I was called a bigot and told that I was giving a stage to bigots. I had not even had breakfast yet. I said again that if they have a different opinion they are welcome to submit their own panel. I was then called “cis male garbage”. Someone then tweeted at me that I should die.
      >I said if you use the word “cis” don’t bother tweeting me. This brought back another twitter argument from a week or so ago in which I defended a game about female masturbation. This game only included veganas which I thought was reasonable given the point of the game was to teach women how to jerk off. It was pointed out to me that not all women have veganas and I will admit right here in front of everyone that this came as a big shock to me.

However with the advent of ai and all these AI media channels that are popping up, I thought it may be better to do something with ai voices. Actually it's the upper classes. From the communist manifesto:

            >The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionising the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production, and with them the whole relations of society. Conservation of the old modes of production in unaltered form, was, on the contrary, the first condition of existence for all earlier industrial classes. Constant revolutionising of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones.
That is to say the bourgeoisie creates itself through more efficient and productive technologies and processes. HOWEVER:

            >Altogether collisions between the classes of the old society further, in many ways, the course of development of the proletariat. The bourgeoisie finds itself involved in a constant battle. At first with the aristocracy; later on, with those portions of the bourgeoisie itself, whose interests have become antagonistic to the progress of industry; at all time with the bourgeoisie of foreign countries.
The bourgeoisie competes with itself. The old industry has all the capital, and uses it to suppress new technologies that threaten its position.

Insights like this are why "marxism" is presented as evil and scary. Marx actually very accurately describes the machinations of capitalism and it's not in the best interests of the bourgeois for the proletariat to know how the system they participate in actually works. It's only after this analysis of capitalism that he proposes communism as a solution.

It becomes hard to figure out when you consider that "the right" is a loose consolidation of ideas they find undesirable and their championed peoples are much more fervent advocates of these same ideas.

                It's not really "enduring hardships".

really? non-white people are standing up for white interests? that's news to me
                >It's not really "enduring hardships"
not yet but it will be. the results of the ideas they push is going to make the very society they live in objectively worse and they either don't care or they simply don't think that far ahead

All marxist moralism is based off "oppressed" vs" oppressor" groups.
The actions of said members of each group do not matter in any way, only the category they belong to.
That's where you get idiotic shit like "Black person can't be racist against white people" from.

No, this is back when PA was a good comic. That time did exist, once.

It was wrong even when they posted it. How could MegaMan 10 predate MegaMan 7? Not to mention the sequel is X2, and not XI.

I don't know what you're referring to. This is what should be posted as a response to yours.
Also the random function they added a couple of years back, that just splices 3 panels together, can sometimes produce entertaining dumbassery results.
