No, my dad did. Unlike my mother, my father had decent taste. He bought me an OG xbox, bundled with Midtown Madness 3 (yuck), Zapper (eh, ok game) and Brute Force (the GOAT).
My mother bought me a PS2 later on to make up for her failings as a drug addict and at least had the decency to get me Ratchet and Clank.
are you Black folk blind? I said the OG xbox. The one released in the 2000s?
Technically i was playing genesis on emulator using I think it was kgen98 or some other 16 bit emulator but that doesnt count as buying a console
Remember when my dad surprised me with Power Blade and SMB 3, he yelled at me from the kitchen asking what the hell i had done to one of the cupboards and i had no idea what he was talking about, then he opened the cupboard door and said "look at this mess" and the two games where sitting on a shelf at eye-level, funny thing was we where supposed to go to some neighbours house to have dinner so my mom was pissed that he gave me the game before us going to them and was sure i was going to complain the whole time about not being able to play the games but i actually behaved (and got to play the games for a while when we got home from the dinner around 22.00 which was really late for me) must have been like 6 or 7 at the time
>boot >petrol station
I'm Swedish hence ESL (and I'm tired as frick which doesn't help)
Nope, but I'm sure she and my dad discussed it. I actually remember dad picking me and my sister up from daycare and him showing me the Nintendo in the boot, I was so exited on the ride home.
Before that we occasionally rented a sega master system from one of the local petrol stations they had like a freight container beside the main building that was wall to wall with games.
My mom is actually pretty good at Tetris, we used to hold tournaments when we had family gatherings and she was always in the top 3 (and my relatives actually took it fairly seriously)
my uncle is 50 something, he's a riot for Galaga >Uncle, there's a galaga machine there! >Cool >...would you beat the highscore and put my name for a beer? >Frick out of my way kid, let me show you how a master does it
i swear my initials are in like 8 different places because of him
My dad got me my first console, a PS1 he was able to get from his work friend.
I didn't realize it at that age, but we weren't a very high income family, so something like that must have been huge. Would always watch me play Rayman if he wasn't too tired from night shifts. Miss him dearly, I don't know how he did it. I found his checkbooks from those years, never realized how much we were scraping by. With all that he did for us, things never seemed the least bit dire financially.
my parents got my gifts together because i wasn't raised in a broken home >first game my parents let me play was Commander Keen on their home office IBM around 1992 >first game my parents bought me and my brother was (tie) Super Mario Allstars / Jurassic Park 1 with a SNES xmas 1993
My young childhood was playing games with my uncle on his SNES (but my controller was unplugged) and when I was old enough to figure it out, my uncle gifted it to me as he had gotten a PC and I played the shit out of FF2 (FF4) and Chrono Trigger (he was a big RPG guy). Great times.
My mom got me a Nintendo entertainment system for charismas of 1989. We had snuck out into the stockings early to find a copy of super mario 2, beef jerky and those little bear cookies filled with chocolate. I was so excited when me and my brother unwrapped the NES i started hyperventilating and threw up all over the place. My mom still has this on vhs and shows people when they come over to visit.
It was around when Pokemon Red and Blue came out so I was around 6 or 7 years old. I remember it being my birthday and mom took me to Walmart and said I could get any game boy game I wanted. Saw the red box with Charizard on it and that was it. That moment always stuck with me because mom was more happy for me than I was getting a new game. I’m sorry mom. I should have been a better son to you.

My dad didnt let me watch saturday morning cartoons and certainly not buy video games, so i begged my mom to buy a cereal box with a rayman 3 demo in it which was my first real game even though it was a demo, i played the shit out of that demo so i still know the music by heart
Later on my dad relented and bought me Lotr Return of the king and i spent days killing orcs in it
My Mom is definitely the source of my autism and was really into video games before I was born. Her inability to establish any kind of maternal care for me made her more into a babysitter figure and definitely gave me attachment issues. She was pretty good at Mario though.

My dad got me Super C on the NES, out of nowhere. Wasn't even birthday or a holiday. My Mom got me an original gameboy for Christmas though.

Please add an R in the future to "you", so my brain doesn't get frustrated reading that.
>Did you mom buy your your first console/game?

Wholesome, nice, classic, good post. Nice to see there are decent people on the internet still
