homie im 29 from the Philippines and I watched Xplay, Cheat and Attack of the Show whenever it was on. Blew my 12 year old mind there were multiple tv shows about videogames and it was how I got introduced to ICO/SotC, Katamary Damacy, and the concept of porn games in general.
I remember being super excited that we had DirectTV at the time bc we got G4 on there. Lost it for a bit with another provider but got it back for a few years before its demise.
I'm 35 and these shows were complete ass.

Yeah, loved it. Looking back, the content wasn't really any good, but it was earnest. They had bad takes on good games, sometimes were really soft on bad games, but they had opinions that only they had. The skits were pretty funny sometimes. Now everything is a homogenous mess.

That's precisely why the G4 revival fricking failed. The whole appeal of G4 Tech TV was that it was basically proto-gaming Youtube when streaming video on the internet was still a b***h and a half to do. Once you could do that on Youtube (and youtubers actually existed in large enough numbers to cover all bases), there was zero need for the channel anymore. It rightfully died. It wasn't like other channels out there that are evergreen, nor could it rely on a (literal) Boomer audience to keep eyes watching since its target audience was the exact demographic that would care about the internet and streaming in the first place. Everything about G4 made its 2000s era the perfect storm of everything coming together that inevitably had a limited lifespan.

I know the TechTV purists get up in arms about it, but G4 was the first channel with shows I'd ever seen that focused on video games. Arena, Cinematech, X-Play, Cheat, Judgement Day (eventually just the electric playground), icons ... hell, I even found some enjoyment out of Attack of the Show for as douchey-poser as the hosts looked. It was still news for shit I actually cared about.
Being here in '06 during E3 was like Woodstock. All the horror of the conferences countered with the memes this place shat out gave whiplash.
I also remember the downturn:
when youtube had all the cutscenes you wanted plus the birth of the first "Let's Plays", cinematech became redundant and the "nocturnal emissions" was mostly dumb filler.
When X-Play ditched the casual look of two video gamers chilling out in a man-cave like studio for a professional studio with proper dress code, even the reviews lost character. The skits, for as corny as they were back in the day, had charm and breathed life into "yes, these are real gamers who came up with this shit. and the production values show."
Code Monkeys had it's moments, and I've downloaded several Jonathon Coulton songs because of it's theme, but it was still boring sitcom writing most of the time.
Cheat had already been rendered null because of the internet but it was something to put on in the background until they killed it.

It was more what I saw at the time. Ignoring their geek creds, Pereira and Munn looked like pop-talkshow hosts of the era; pereira with the fauxhawk and tight-fitting clothes, Munn being the beautiful girl willing to bawd it up for views.
I don't know what the Sess has said of the fanbase, but I'd think he'd be jaded for the way he was canned from his show.
Similar for me, though I found G4-TechTV closer to 2003-2004 and I loved Cheat! to the point I desperately wrote down every cheat code mentioned even if it was for games I didn't know about until it was mentioned (you could never be sure I wasn't going to get that game at some point). Cinematech was also great.
I didn't start watching it in any large amount until 2007 when it was already starting to decline. Mostly because of that one commercial with the dorky gamer dude getting his dream electronic waifu and CodeMonkeys, but also X-Play and AotS.
By 2008, though, even I was thinking "why would I wait all day for half an hour of video game news and jokes when I could just go online at any time?" so I could read the writing on the wall. No surprise it fell apart soon after.
