it's not even one of the better examples of its genre, yet alone "best games ever" lmao

it's uninspired hallway horde shooter that has barely iterated on what valve did like two decades ago and is almost identical to what fatshark itself did years ago. you must really not play a lot of games if you consider this to be the best ever, it's middle of the road at the very best, that is if you have good pals and value social experiences over actual game, otherwise it's not even worth your time.
also they keep promising to get it right with each iteration and continue to make an almost identical game and fall into all the same pitfalls and axe them early with more promises next time. just for that I would not support this dev. they can't organize development to be effective enough to go for liveservice model and don't make content fast enough.

      >Brute Kroxigor: Slow & heavy 2-handed weapon user.

        Anonymous

You'd have to be one of the most tasteless people in the universe to not see the issues.
        The shitty RNG weapon store
The fact that crafting wasn't even implemented until nearly 4 months after "release"
The inability to pick missions, always having to choose from an RNG set of missions and modifiers
The boring characters compared to the kino that is VT2.
        Lack of maps
Maps are mostly the same 3 biomes
VT2 tells a broad story if you play the missions in order. DT just has the shitty cutscenes that are 80% tutorial.
The fairly aggressive real money store and monetization that was functional before basic elements of crafting.
It took a full year before they made the classes kind of interesting, and they haven't added any new ones, so there is still less variety than VT2.
There is no "Red" tier of gear to chase, so the rewards for playing is still just more currency for the weapon shop slot machine
Cosmetics in general, outside the real money shop of course, are still generally disappointing. Again, nothing like the in game earnables from VT2.

Basically everything about the game, besides the actual core gameplay, is a downgrade from VT2. And the devs obviously feel that too, because they'd rather shit out 4 maps for VT2 than make basic updates for DT.

Like this is such a moronic take. Nothing "ruined" this game. The hate was so insanely unjustified I have never seen the likes of it. What, pray tell, made this genuinely fun game so unplayable?

        Anonymous

Nah, it was entirely justified. The game should have come with an Early Access tag. It launched missing core features, like the weapon crafting, which took 4 months to implement, despite the cosmetic shop working day one.
You still can't pick your missions freely. The weapon shop is still a slot machine. They chose to make the characters customizeable and it cost the game having the memorable characters of ratclicker.
Maybe "ruined" is a bit strong, because you can still technically enjoy the core gameplay in the missions, which is good. But the complaints are entirely justified. The slow release of updates that fix all those complaints, while VT2 gets several updates including a vs mode, adds another layer of justification to it all.

  7. 3 weeks ago
    Anonymous

    >I know you've all been complaining that all good cosmetics are only obtainable through paying real money, so in our new update we've added over 100 new cosmetics earnable through normal gameplay!
    >90% of them are badges and portraits
I completely gave up on this game after that.

On one hand every lizard will say yes and give realmgates, weird portals of unknown origin, as proof.
On the other those gates are just malformed copies of polar gates from wfb's polar circles and their existance can be explained away in the same way any other terrain feature exists after End Times.

1st Edition AoS was absolute crap in almost all aspects. The lore was hastily put together garbage, the rules were nonsense, and the art was laughable. By 2nd Edition the people in charge had been mostly replaced and a renewed focus was put on AoS to sort its shit out, which led to several rewrites and an all around face lift. It's been mostly alright, and has gained back some momentum as a tabletop game, but it's still hit by the stigma left by 1st Edition.

World explodes during end times; the incarnated winds of magic grab whoever they can and frick off to the physical home of the winds, tosses the mortals all over (except high elves) millennia pass and civilizations rise and fall, end times 2 happens. Sigmar, Nagash, GorkaMorka (they fused together because they fought that hard), Malerion (Malekith and his Dragon fused together because he wasn't gonna give her soul up to chaos), Tyrion, Teclis, Alarielle (who fused with the wood elf Arielle) team up and kick the chaos gods ass, Tyrion and Malerion lock slannesh up in foreverially tied delinized chastity jail, have to keep watch because orgasm denial makes him cum anyway. Nagash surprising no one betrays Sigmar, GorkaMorka just starts fighting them both, Sigmar wins after some time.
End Times 3 occurs but Horned Rat is now the 4th chaos god, and unlike the big 4 he actually wants to win and he back doors into every realm and wins for Chaos. Sigmar has been stealing souls just in case this happened and drops chaos chosen equivalents and starts turning the tide, saves Morathi who has been siphoning off elf worship to become a pseudo-god, Sigmar kills the king of the giants, AoS 1st edition starts here

Sigmar is winning all over the place but Nagash is mad because soul stealing is a violation of the NAP and he decides Skeletons weren't enough, makes Gundam suits out of giant skeletons and sends them to collect taxes. Archeon evervirgin is pissed as shit horned rat got the promotion instead of him, secedes from the chaos gods and steals the only non-skaven pathway to every realm. Bone Gundams invade because Archie isn't paying taxes on that real estate.
Lizard man space ships start running out of power and start crashing into the realms. Meanwhile Teclis being a fricking nerd tries to math new elves into existence, ends up making soulless abominations and tosses them in the ocean, Morathi finds them and puts out so they join Sigmars protection racket. Skarsnik got turned into a moon as a reward for his faithful service to the bad moon and his light makes goblins smarter and stabbier. Nagash gave birth to his friends Arkhan, Neferata, and Mannfred. Dwarves survived and had to decide between gachimuchi mercenaries who work for crack rock and colonial era israelites who mine crack rock. Big frickin orc named Gordrakk makes the biggest waagh, and wants to beat up Sigmar himself because he's good at fighting. Ogres piss of a magical blizzard and it chases them wherever they go, other ogres subconsciously start creating a new body for the maw (got stuck in the gorkamorka fusion, hasn't really minded).
2nd edition is starting around now.

Dwarf capitalist start bottling water from the realm of life and become absurdly wealthy. Morathi is a conniving c**t and starts nigging her allies, steals one of sigmars cities and just fricks the stormcast in charge until he says it's okay. Sigmar doesn't realize because he's found a passion for building tiny models and makes new stormcasts to throw at his problems. Lizardmen find a host of dragon eggs, begin incubating them. Regular humans emboldened by the stormcasts start going on crusades because chaos still rules like 99.8% of the realms. One of these crusades ends up waking up some vampires. Morathi decides pseudo-godhood isn't good enough and crawls up Slannesh's ass to eat any elf souls stuck in his impacted feces. Aenerion is there and he tells her she a hoe and cuts her in two (one half reverts to her mortal self, the other becomes fully divine), Slannesh is able to nut a little from the battle in his colon and makes two super keeper of secrets. Teclis is concerned as to why Slannesh was able to nut and leaves elf heaven with armies of pajama wearing elves, Nagash sees they haven't paid taxes. Arkhan is sent to make the elves pay taxes and gets thrown off the edge of the realm (permadeath) by eltharions ghost. Nagash is upset since Arkhan was the only thing that actually liked Nagash, invades elf heaven. Teclis uses mirrors to burn Nagash like an ant with a magnifying glass and dozens of elves beat him into powder with hammers. Belakor sees everyone else is busy and opens the warp on the realm of capitalist dwarves, wipes out pretty much everyone there (Malerion is helping him behind the scenes?!?! cliffhanger), Snorri returns from beyond and Belakor runs like khorne himself just showed up. During this all a side games plot comes to an end and a centaur the size of a giant wakes up and takes over the biggest waagh, his footsteps are so loud the sons of the king of giants wake up and join said waagh. Dragon eggs hatch and are given to Sigmar

Basically all the memes you see about AoS are from 1st edition which only lasted until 2018. 2nd was still flawed but clearly on the right track, 3rd is unironically pretty good, and 4th is looking to NOT be a total downgrade like the new edition of 40k was.

                Basically
                >Several Fantasy characters became Gods after absorbing the Winds of Magic, each landed in realms related to the Wind they absorbed
                >Each one started building their own civilizations in those realms. Teclis made Elves (which he failed at and had to do over), Alarielle made Tree people, Nagash made Skeletons, etc.
                >Sigmar tried to put together an anti-Chaos league between all the Gods, but made the mistake of includong Nagash and Gorkamorka (Gork and Mork fused together)
                >Shit went sideways and Chaos invaded everywhere, causing huge amounts of damage to every realm except Malekith's, because Malekith isn't a fricking moron and actually used his magic
                >In order to combat Chaos, Sigmar and Grungni stole the souls of dead heroes from Nagash and turned them into Stormcast, AKA Ground Marines
                >Eventually Chaos got beaten back, and now each of the cvilizations made by the Gods are expanding back into the realms
                >Except Nagash, who blew up the center of his Realm so he could eat several different afterlives and grow more powerful, which led to problems in a lot of other places
                >Alarielle tried to counteract this with Life magic, but it sorta backfired in some places
                >Morathi returned and is still a colossal backstabbing c**t
                >Slaanesh is in a coma but is slowly waking up
                >Normal humans are now expanding even more than before, mostly allied with elves and dwarfs, but there's still some tension between everybody

Broken Realms was the most kino campiagn GW did, but it's a weird place to start given how it's, as title implies, disrupting the status quo, meaning you'd have to know what came before it.
Like why would you skip stright to the final battle of Soul Wars wihtout even establishing them as a thing?

No one who played this trash on launch expected it to survive for more than a year.
Fartshart and GW knew 40k paypiggies would empty their wallets for anything with their favorite branding on it and took advantage of that.

Most people who played it on launch expected it to slowly get better until it was on par with VT2.
No one expected the moronic swedes to basically abandon it and just continue to make content for VT2 instead. If Fatshart had just put the whole team on DT things would be looking a lot better.

      Anonymous

Some anons have suggested Fatshart has that awful Valve style development. Where there are no specific teams, they just work on what they want. Which makes the fact that more content has come out for VT2 than DT since DT released make a lot more sense.
They are literally moronic swedes that are willing to let DT die because muh janky ratclicker is easier to dev for.

That sounds moronic but I believe it. It's unfortunate that VT and DT are stuck with incompetent devs.

If I was at Fatshark I wouldn't want to work on DT either. It's fricking bad. Imagine getting handed permission for a 40k game but you have to make it about literal Guard rejects fighting a shitty Nurgle cult on some backwater Hive, where most of the levels are the same drab industrial atmosphere because that's all a Hive can really give. There's borderline nothing to properly work with there.

Hired Gun proved you can have interesting environments in a hive. And as they add the assets for the "biomes" (the upper desert, lower sewers, the noble's quarters and the market) things are getting better in terms of variety. Its just too fricking slow.
And its always telling when people shit on the game vaguely, because even Ratclickers usually admit the gameplay is just fine.
Fatshark fricked up the systems around the gameplay, really badly. But the gameplay itself is great. Better than ratclick's general jankfest.

Thats why I think its such a shame they are choosing to let it molder. Or fixing it at such a slow rate. Its a good game trapped in a shitty shell.

Necromunda is such a weird thing to me, I've only ever seen people playing it once but GW will shit out models and content for it frequently. Honestly would have preferred a gang warfare game set in Commoragh.

      Anonymous

      >Multiple maps and weapons per update, finally new classes etc.
That won't happend because GW has dropped the bomb on the game, as was their intention from the start. Nothing will drastically change in game because GW won't want it to deviate too far from THEIR game. Naturally nobody is actually going to buy this shit, so in the end it doesn't matter. GW got their pound of flesh and will happily sign off on letting the game rot.

I still play a game of Darktide pretty much every night, got all 4 classes to 30, usually play 1 or 2 games as Veteran on difficulty 5. Axe + Burst Rifle. Basically never takes longer than 20 seconds to find a game earlier than 11 MST.

I wonder how many of the critics in this thread have even played the game since release. The talent trees are great, weapon variety is good, and monetization is purely cosmetic (and there is a regular game currency cosmetic shop too).

If you like Killing Floor/L4D/Vermintide type games, its the best, most polished version that has been put out.

If you prefer fotm Eurojank with charmless Starship-Troopers flavoured marshmallows, good for you I guess. But acting like Helldivers "killed" anything is brainless zoomer bullshit. People will still be playing Darktide long after people have moved on to a new fotm coop game.

Thats all anyone needs to know. AoS was always a property that just wore the meat suit of Fantasy in an attempt to attract the mythical younger audience. It failed to do that, but GW is now forced to keep it shambling along because they can't kill properties anymore after learning that lesson and being forced to bring back Fantasy.
I think the model line is pretty fricking cool looking, besides the meme shit like the dwarf balloons and flying sharks. But the setting reeks of the kind of focus testing garbage the simpsons made fun of in the 90s.

personally i'd expect a smaller scale Total War game for AoS like one of the historical saga games, just pick a faction from each GA and that's your starting roster, and backport old stuff from TWH like seraphon/skaven/ogres etc
    >stormcast
heavy infantry with strong but limited mobility via thunderstrike deployment, maybe throw in CoS units for artillery/range/chaff
    >STD
basically how WoC play in TWH, strong infantry/monster mash with good magic
    >death
soulblight, just VC with more bells and whistles
    >destruction
proposed roster lacks a finesse sort of army so kruleboyz
there, i just made an AoS game thats easy to make witha massive carryover fanbase after TWH3 is finished

      Anonymous

Don't use Stormcast as a full faction, incorporate them as end-game units for CoS.
This is why AoS games are mostly doomed. GW pushing Stormcast as the posterboys on everything does more harm than good for marketing.

Actually playing this game is so fricking satisfying. It's such a waste such fantastic gameplay is buried in the absolute mediocrity that is the rest of this package. If the game hadn't launched in such a sorry state that it needed 2 straight years of nothing but core system overhauls it could've been one of the greats. As it stands, they barely added maps, they really didn't add any truly new weapons, the skill tree was added, but it was promissed for launch and also was needed to get back to VT2 character variety. The raid boss fight was neat but kind of just a gimmick.
If you start the game from scratch now you'll have a much much better time with the game, but then the 2000 people left playing are all 500 hour + veterans who couldn't give a shit about that.

I doubt that they will ever drop true content that goes beyond launch promisses and fixing their own mistakes before the studio moves on.

I don’t think fatshark cares about making lots of money. I’m dead serious. They would rather milk a small amount of whales than be under pressure to deliver timely updates to retain a large player base. I don’t believe they have real management at all. The inmates run the asylum over there. After several years of baffling decisions it’s safe to say they aren’t going to change so we might as well accept them for what they are: idiot savants who happened upon a golden gameplay formula but can’t/don’t care to plan game development to save their lives

As another anon mentioned up thread, there's rumors they run the studio how Valve supposedly did/does. They don't have teams or real management or ship dates. The employees work on what they want, when they want.
And as everyone knows, Valve doesn't make games anymore because that style of development never produces anything that actually ships. Fatshark's output seems to fit that formula. Working on significant updates for their last game because the devs don't want to work on their new game for whatever reason isn't something you see in a normal studio.
