I generally have the patience for longer, linear JRPGS but I find Yasuda's designs irresistible and I've been finding these kinds of games more tolerable recently since I got my Steam Deck

Not sure if you're still here but these aren't Fitbits or anything close. It tracks your steps but it's just those rudimentary pedometers that count a step as you moving your wrist at all and the only thing it contributes on the Digimon side is if they survive battles when they lose. On the VBM side (Ultraman and Kamen Rider) it does nothing at all from what I recall. There's even some Digimon who have personalities that make them want to be lazy so exercising at all is a bad thing if you plan on fighting using that Digimon.
The "vitals" part of the Vital Bracelet means that an IR sensor will go off (It's on the back of the watch) every two minutes or so that checks your heartbeat. If you have a higher than resting average heartbeat you gain more vitals, otherwise you just gain a normal amount. Even without an elevated heartbeat you will max out vitals in maybe a day at best, even shorter if you decide to do battles after you reach the half way point on your current character. Vitals determine how strong your character is and how much HP they have, so you won't really be battling until you get more than halfway to max anyway since most enemies will just one or two-shot you.
These aren't exercise watches, these are toys. If you've ever used one of those old PETs or even the old Digivices you know how these work, they've just been updated for the modern age. They're also heavily reliant on the app for rewards and transferring fully leveled characters so they don't die. You also can't leave the watch on because it'll cause vitals to drain on the character so you either put it to sleep on your watch by storing it (Newer watches, can only put two into stasis on the watch) or throw it on the app.

Nah, OVERARCHING PLOT is the best part of the Digimon anime, but the new Toei writers INSISTS on making monster of the week/filler content ever since Colon and it's even extended to Ghost Game (though to be fair some of GG's MotW can be interesting, unlike Colon's). They kind of made the same mistake on early Savers, and pretty much everyone agrees that the early MotW episodes are the worst part of Savers, and it only got better once they went to the digital world.

They could even keep with the trash-stacking effects the current 2 Chaos lines have, by giving him Jamming/Sec+/Protection the higher his bonuses are from shit being in the trash.

I like the idea that Chaos and normal are basically the same designs, with the colors being different. Really helps reinforce that it's a coinflip whether Gallantmon saves the world or destroys it. I wouldn't mind an official redesign to Chaos Mode, though.

Permanent for me, the idea they're really growing and not just getting power-ups appeals to me more.
Permanent works better mechanicly for a video game.
Temporary works better narritively for the anime. Especially in 01 where going to Ultimate then drained them to be in-training for a little while.
Both are fine and lend themselves better to different types of games. I want another game with an evolution system like Survive but, you know, without dev hell and shoestring budget.
I'm torn on this one.
On one hand, I'd have snapped my DW3 disc in half if I had to choose between wasting a turn to evolve and sitting through the evolution animation every single fricking fight, or doing without them and doing 50% damage and taking 50% extra damage
On the other hand, I'd love having lower forms be viable (so I can use my favorite adult level mons). I guess it could work like Breath of Fire's dragon transformation (transforming uses AP but greatly boosts stats, and maintaining a form burns AP at the end of every turn. you can fish for or steal AP-restoring items), or Saiyuki Journey West's werebeast system (there's a gauge in the upper left of the screen, turns and skills use up points. there are a few ways to replenish it iirc).
Temporary but with the option they can stay in any later form as long as they want once they reach it unless they're weakened in it too much.
Permanent as long as they have a way to regress if they want or need to. And no fricking dying.

I think both work, but it depends on what you're doing with them.
My personal thought is: I'd like a middle ground, where evolution is temporary but it lasts longer than one scene. I want to see interaction with Digimon in all their forms, from In-Training to Mega. Also, if they're permanently in Mega form, then there is no realistic threat from anything at the Rookie/Champion levels and variably at the Ultimate stage.
In terms of a video game: give ways to maintain higher forms, and when they do revert to Rookie/In-Training, don't make it a chore to evolve again, but also wave around carrots and sticks to incentivize not immediately rushing to Mega level.
I like the personal interactions with Rookies, but it just makes Champions and higher seem like props for action rather than incarnate forms of those personable characters (with exceptions here and there). At the same time, being in the best forms would solve certain problems very quickly and accelerate things to end-game immediately, which I don't find desirable. There should be gameplay and story incentives to have lower forms, as well as maintain upper forms for a while.

That's when you make threats/obstacles that can't be overcome with sheer strength or something like thae villain captures someone and threatens to harm the hostage unless you fight him in a lower form.

I can sort of see this working like higher evolutions stats are dependent on the lower evolutions. So maybe the game allows you to get to Champion and UIltimate and Mega relatively fast, and you can stay in those forms/access them easily, but if you don't train in lower forms then they're just not all that effective. Like each evolution has some kind of level to it, and the higher the evolutions stats are the previous evolutions stats put together, with lower evolutions stats having higher and higher impacts.

ShineCreymon has a dumb body shape and a dumber looking head.
Compare Shine to War, Ancient, Kaiser, Blitz, Victory, and even BlackWar and Gaioumon, and he still looks infinitely inferior. He's not that bad, but the competition for the Greymon line is stiff, and they all look good. Shine just looks the worst of the bunch. Also, burst mode is the worst and most lazy super ultimate form there is. Just compare it to Crimson Duke, Omega, Future Mode, Paladin Mode. Every single main character super ultimate form complexity shits on it.
In fairness, I do find ShineGreymon as somewhat interesting in its uniqueness. It's the only Ultimate-level Greymon-species Digimon other than AncientGreymon that isn't a subspecies of WarGreymon.

Gaioumon is pretty blatantly a subspecies of WarGreymon. You can tell by the general shape of its helmet and its overall bodyshape. Specifically, it was the original proposed design for BlackWarGreymon X-Antibody design by As'maria, but the others liked it so much that they made it its own thing. Fundamentally, this thing is pretty blatantly a WarGreymon derivative.
Sure, he's essentially a unique BlackWarGreymon in design. But, the fact that he's not even a Greymon in name, is a virus, and can't fly, sets him apart from the other Greymon ultimates far more than Shine who is a classic Greymon ultimate aside from his armor /machine? heavy design. Anyway, that's beside the point. If you want unique, Shine isn't unique enough, he's still a vaccine flying humanoid fire dragon man at the end of the day. AncientGreymon is the most unique Greymon ultimate.
My original point is that ShineGreymon is this bizarre unexplained outlier among Greymon species Digimon. The genealogy of other Ultimate-level Greymon species Digimon other than AncientGreymon can be traced back to WarGreymon. ShineGreymon seems to be a separate line, something that diverged much earlier.

Variable. How it works in Cybersleuth is perfect. Nothing forces a devolve, you control what form their at, and you have incentive to digivolve up and down and learn specific moves to help build the Digimon you want. Digivolving up and down the pathways to get the Ice Arrows move then digivolving around the path to get back to Angewomon so I could have an Angewomon with all the debuff arrow attacks was really fun, I just wish I didn't need a PlatinumNumemon team to make the grinding part bearable.

Patamon evolving into Angemon in Adventure was a thematic thing more than anything else, he was the last in the group to evolve and there was a lot of build up for it so they couldn't just have it evolve into some mundane thing, also the first thing he did was killing a Devil-looking Digimon that was the main villain of Adventure's first arc and he and his chosen embody hope.
Vaccine Digimon tend to turn into Angels, Warriors. If you want Monsters then you need a Virus Digimon. The problem is that Virus Digimon tend to work for Myotismon or Piedmon, or are flat out harmless like Etemon

If the anime hadn't shown up, Digimon would have never managed to get its 5 minutes of fame to begin with. That's actually meant to be a reference to Digimon Adventure. Not that this game is within that continuity, but Survive was essentially made as a "gaiden game". Habu explicitly said that these kids aren't "Chosen Ones", but rather normal kids who got sucked into something beyond their scope.

How good is the Digimon Adventure reboot?
All of the Mimi episodes are good.
It's not terrible, but it's also not good. It just is. If you like seeing your favorite characters and Digimon again, you'll be happy. If you expect a good story, or any meaningful character development or actions from anyone outside of Tai, Matt or Mimi, you'll hate it.
So the og adventure series is still the definitive Digimon series? A friend of mine is a huge fanatic and urges me to watch the 90s anime.
