This and entirely unironically.
The rest was "expected mediocrity, got shit" at worst, and that's not much of a disappointment, though the year was quite bad overall.
i enjoyed the d4 campaign and actually had a good time with season 2. wouldnt say it was worth 70€ the price tag but i think theres something there if they keep working on it. starfield was just straight up dogwater and remembering paying full price for it makes me cringe
I mean it has a fricking lesbian couple in a blink and you miss it quest, but the plot isn't really "progressive" in any way.
Lilith is portrayed as "less" evil than other demons, but her nature stops her from doing anything in a truly good way, and the real villain, who is never fought, Mephisto, is the grand string puller, who puts the main cast in a hobson's choice so he can be free.
its more of a take of humanity and its grand failings, and how nothing good lasts and eventually we loop back around to making the same mistakes, it doesn't really talk about modern day woke shit.
Hogwarts was about as I expected, safe and moderately interesting but I got bored. Not a very big disappointment
D4 I sunk far more hours into and got a better impression. It was just a failure all around, from the way the endgame was designed, to balance changes, to the dev team. It still has potential to be better but I'm guessing it'll be at minimum 2 years before it can be generally considered a good game. I was hoping for more so how it went was a big letdown.
Didn't play starfield but I think disappointment implies there were expectations to begin with. Was anyone excited about it enough to be disappointed? Or was everyone expecting it to be shit? Because if everything thinks a game is going to be mediocre trash and it turns out that way, I wouldn't call it a disappointment, just par for the course.
>Was anyone excited about it enough to be disappointed?
It's a strange case where everything Bethesda showed was leading me to believe it will be more open ME1 which is exactly what Starfield end up being, but for some reason everyone else was hyped to get another Freelancer and they are really mad about not getting it.
>city is just some shitty corridor >empty planets >gay space magic >explosive shotgun and ohk sniper are the strongest >you crew are bunch of c**ts except for one person that conveniently is also the best combat companion >you think your choices matter but they don't
Starfield is literally more open ME1 without aliens and with space combat.
I'm going with Hogwart's. Diablo 4 can be saved if the entire team is fired and they adjust droprates to actually be on par with Diablo 3.
With Hogwart's I spent 16 hours doing nonstop quests, only to get wiped by common enemies in a side quest. All those status effects you learn don't mean shit in a fight where a gang of enemies are blitzing you. Give me a golem that can fight or something, soloing this shit is hard.
Hogwarts. Wasted 'open world' potential on an IP that hasn't had a new home release in ages. Anyone expecting something from Starfield has only themselves to blame.
Didn't play Hogwarts, but it seems reasonably competent if unremarkable.
Diablo 4 was as expected. Decent core system and experience undermined by monetization schemes and how Blizzard will eventually cause the entire thing to degrade to shit.
Starfield is bizarre in how it does almost everything that Bethesda has done previously, but in a way which is utterly boring. I was expecting typical Bethesda, wide as an ocean deep as a puddle affair, but they managed to make one of the least engaging game I've played in years. Even with low expecations, it leaves a negative impression.
>tl;dr
Starfield, by somehow being a net negative despite low expectations.
its a game for cucks, the best girl in the entire game and its hardcoded in not to be able to save her
with all the choices and branches there are in the game this option is unavailable. larian are fricking gay
Pretty sure the point of all those characters are to cuck the player intentionally.
The studio has a history of being cuckolds (unironically) and they add this stuff into every release so no character is good. Women must have really ruined those guys
yeah, came out on January 24th with disappointing sales.
Got forgotten the next day because a much better game came out that day.
Studio closed down in May
Everyone knew Starfield was gonna be a disaster and Hogwarts was at mot expected to be mid.
It gotta be Diablo then. No matter how shitty and flawed III was, it was fun for a while and people did get some cash out of it with the auction house.
But we kinda deserve it. Nobody called them out on the shit graphic designs back then so they doubled down it for IV.
I did not understand the hype of the gollumgame at all, always thought I must've missed something
the publisher was a huge red flag, the studio was decent but tiny and never worked on anything even close to that gollumabomination (IP&genre)
i expected d4 to be barebones as its a service game
i expected hogwarts legacy to focus on exploring hogwarts / surrounding locale and they did that

Diablo 4 was leading the pack but they've done a pretty good job with Season 2. Still lots more work to be done but it's a good start to unjusting the game. I'd say Starfield.
the system shock remake
lots of weird changes since the last demo
the only positive change was that the rooms were a little brighter
I expected most of the titles mentioned in the thread to be a dumpster fire or mediocre at best, but still had hopes for ssr
>ignoring BG3 because he's a shill >Oh boy I sure do love playing D&D 5e! Hehe it's so great to have all this ESG and sex stuff all over! God I love how NPCs get swapped out for new ones when you kill them! Wow, I rolled a 1 and died because the game said so, so cool!
Anyway, Hogwarts was solid, but it just sucks they released it and didn't do any added content, DLCs or anything. Really feels like one of those games that could seriously benefit from some added content, or at least an update to give the game a proper "karma" system.
Still, people played it and liked it, though they might've been a little underwhelmed by how relatively shallow some of the mechanics are.
The game got me pretty interested for a while, but seeing the game get like 3 bugfix patches and nothing else just took the wind out of my sails.
D4 and Starfield, now THOSE were total frickups.
Both had hype from the hordes of rabid fans and drones.
Both had massive preorder sales.
Both shat the bed and have been struggling to recover ever since.
Out of the two, I think Diablo 4 is probably worse, mainly because it's got no chance of being saved by a modding community, and it's solely made explicitly as a GaaS game so it's always going to be predatory to make sure players pay forever.
Starfield is shit, but all Bethesda games eventually get saved by mods no matter what, so there's a pretty good chance I'll pick it up for $5 a year or two from now and mod the hell out of it, assuming the modding community lasts that long. Funny to watch a game be so universally reviled that even the modders are losing interest in less than a year, heh.
starfield was an objectively 9/10 kino
d4/10 didnt even bother to buy it not worth it
hogTTD based af and 8.5/10
biggest dissapointment was bg3
act1 was goty 10/10, the other acts 3/10
I see Armored Core on lists. I'm so glad that I haven't took the bait like you and bought it, just because it's a new game by FS.
There is a reason why this mediocre series had no games since the PS2 era lol
>it has great parkour
Running is fine, but there's nowhere good to run to because the map is just boring and all the points of interest are boring. >and gameplay.
On paper it seems okay until you get tired of dogshit spell swapping UI, black enemies getting lost on the screen because the world is so featureless and dark and everything's covered in particles and all the boss battles just give up and spam shit at you >story is fine too
It's extremely basic, 1:1 Hogwarts Legacy "chosen one collects four things then kills bad guy", absolutely no effort.
I'm attaching a screenshot to prove I've played it. The game is the worst a video game can be - it is BORING.
Hogwarts was good, but nothing about it blows my socks off.
Starfield was an ambitious game from Bethesda, it was fricking doomed, I didn't even bother, I knew it was shit, and it was.
Diablo 4 had HINTS of promise and the story was decent, but the gameplay and longevity was dogshit, its easily the biggest disappointment of the year, because it tricks you into thinking it might be good, and it never will be once you understand the systems.
I don't play AAA slops, so my disappointment list are: >Baten Kaitos Remaster >Yohane the Parhelion: BLAZE in the DEEPBLUE >Xicatrice >Worldless
I expected a lot from Yohane since it's IntiCreate, but it turned out to be shit
Starfield dethroned Cyberpunk as the disappointment the decade.
I picked up Diablo II: Resurrected and Diablo IV at the same time and they're my first ever experiences with any blizzard titles. I've dumped hundreds of hours into them over the past few months with bros and I'm genuinely enthralled with them both. They've introduced me to a whole new genre and it's got me hyped for POE 2. It's also interesting to see literally everyone seethe at blizzard more than other companies even though they have the exact same predatory microtransaction model as every single other MMO and AAA multiplayer title today. It's genuinely hilarious to hear people lecture those that bought D4 and enjoy it, while simultaneously being a person that has spent thousands of dollars on monthly WoW subscriptions over the decades.
Didn't play Hogwarts because I'm not a child or troony.
Anyone saying they were "disappointed" by starfield exposes himself as a grade A moron
Imagine having any expectations for a bethesda game in anno domini 2023
For me it is Flashback 2 I was really excited for a sequel all these decades later. Finally got it. It's a very bad game. Completely bewildered by the experience.
shitty loot, really, that's the crux, also somehow less build diversity than Diablo 2, you just can't customize yourself in any way, you need "this legendary" and would like "this unique" and that's it.
its like they saw POE, and were like "yep, lets do the opposite of that in every conceivable way"
this is true, Diablo 2 is still far and way the better game.

not necessarily, diablo 2 has a trading economy that diablo 4 lacks. players have no incentive to endlessly treasure hunt like in d2
but alas, it is blizzards solution to keep out rmt bots and farmers
Hogwarts becomes terrible the moment you get outside of the school
Diablo 4 was the biggest push for forced Black folk in every cutscene and then the gameplay was the most repetitive boring and uninspired attacks. It has less hook to play then Diablo 1.
Star field was so buggy and had so many lifeless desert planets with nothing to do and had copy pasted content and potato faced brown people.
Hogwarts was the best out of all of them, but it still had forced diversity forced troony shit.
Starfield looked the best out of all of them, but it played like bsolute shit.
Diablo 4 literally filled every line and dialogue with brown people or feminists and tried to put the devil in a positive light on multiple occasions. Then had the worst gameplay to the point where it was worse then all of its predecessors.
Diablo 4 was the worst game of all the big names this year.
>starflop
biggest disappointment because it enjoyed higher expectations nobody with half a brain expects anything from nu blizzard. Hogwarts was actually okay for being a ubislop game
D4 for sure. I didn't play ForeBlack person nor plan to.
D4, that "game" that loads everyone's stash tabs around you, that "game" that makes you weaker as you level up.
I expected nothing from nuBlizz and they still managed to make it fricking horrible. Let's see how the cucks at GGG will manage PoE2
>Diablo 4
I was looking most forward to and had bought. I really enjoyed 3 (I did play it first tbf) but nuBlizzard and their scummy monetary practices > real content killed it for me real quick. >Hogwarts Legacy
Also bought, played until you get to the first town? Or whatever it was called I forget, with the shops. Performance was practically unplayable with instability, frame pacing and input lag on PC. Even editing config files myself didn't do much, thought it would be fine on my Ryzen 7 3800X, RTX 2060 and 2x16 DDR4 3200-CL16 RAM. Diablo 4 had performance issues too. >Starfield
Haven't bought or played, might pirate since its been awhile and has gotten patches though as much as I love Bethesda and was looking forward to Fallout/Skyrim in Space everything I've seen is too dissapointing to even warrant my already limited storage space. >Armored Core 6
Pirated and played a bit of the beginning missions, enjoyed it. Can't say farther than that since I uninstalled cause I want to support FromSoftware. (Also waiting on Shadow of the Erdtree) >Baldurs Gate 3
I am one of those that didn't play the previous games or many CRPGs, not too big a fan of turn based combat but I've enjoyed a few. Am interested in D&D but too big of a sperg for modern geeks to enjoy it with. Also no friends.
Pirated it since can't afford anything as of recent (like AC6) and while I would go the way of uninstalling and buying I've enjoyed it so much I'm on my third playthrough. Game has that hook on me like Vanilla and Modded Skyrim where I can do whatever I want and be whoever I want to be. Playing modded now after full vanilla playthrough.
GF was also interested cause >Astarion
but shes been enjoying it too apart from that and shes not that much into games, very casual. >2024

Starfield wasn't a personal disappointment since my expectations were basically nonexistant but it was certainly a disappoint for anyone expecting the next Skyrim, including Bethesda and Microsoft. It sold really well but I'm sure at least some people were hoping they'd have another decade-spanning cashcow on their hands, and Starfield definitely isn't gonna be that. Even if the modding scene takes off, it's already lost so much momentum. They'd have to seriously turn things around to get people interested again.
Starfield by FAR. Diablo 4 is exactly what I expected from modern Blizzard, and Hogwarts Legacy is an example of controversy taking over a rather mediocre game.
Never though Starfield was going to be anywhere above "mediocre". Not played Diablo 3.5. Hogwarts was disappointing because I figured you'd get the whole school experience not some dumb "oh dude you're a 5th year now" bullshit and some stupid story I don't even give half a shit about.
>Hogwarts was disappointing because I figured you'd get the whole school experience not some dumb "oh dude you're a 5th year now" bullshit
You really thought you were gonna go through all eight years in one game?
>did you really think they were going to deliver the entire reason why everyone has ever wanted an immersive Hogwarts game while marketing it as an immersive Hogwarts game?
It's a pretty decent, comfy game, especially if you have nostalgia for HP franchise. Not sure why anyone was expecting a masterpiece from some literal who studio
I had zero expectations for diablo4 or potter game, so Starfield, for which I had almost zero expectations.
Armored Slop 6
This and entirely unironically.
The rest was "expected mediocrity, got shit" at worst, and that's not much of a disappointment, though the year was quite bad overall.
What am I missing here? I'm not exactly a fan of the series, but isn't AC6 straight up more of the same?
it was popular, beloved, and delivered what the series is known for, so Ganker hates it.
>but isn't AC6 straight up more of the same?
nope, there is a it's called Armored Souls
AC nostalgia players, along with elden ring morons that have no idea what it's about hyped it up
armored core is just a shit series, ac6 is no different

How woke is Diablo 4? Like from plausible deniability anti-white racism to troony encouragement?
not nearly as woke as Ganker would say.
I mean it has a fricking lesbian couple in a blink and you miss it quest, but the plot isn't really "progressive" in any way.

I'm not going to help Bobby Kotick or a bunch of trannies build their vacation homes.
I have no expectations for AAA slop but BG3 third act was still trash
Starfield. Diablo 4 was close. No one expected anything from HL and it ended up being a decent product

How can you be disappointed for Diablo 4? It's common knowledge that Blizzard is a dead company.
Starfield was a shock for many because they didn't count on Bethesda basically releasing a worse Fallout 4 in 2023.
Starfield or armored core 6: mechas die twice
I'm going with Hogwart's. Diablo 4 can be saved if the entire team is fired and they adjust droprates to actually be on par with Diablo 3.

she was always written that way since the Sin Wars novels like 20 years ago, she's easily one of the very few morally ambiguous demons in the setting.
>starflop
biggest disappointment because it enjoyed higher expectations nobody with half a brain expects anything from nu blizzard. Hogwarts was actually okay for being a ubislop game
I don't think anyone was disappointed with Hogwarts Legacy
Stanfield easily. Bethesda games get the automatic shit stamp until proven otherwise
I removed Hogwarts and added the actual glowBlack person and ESG approved goyslop.
No need to thank me. You can have a real discussion now.
D4 is legitimately a 4-6/10 game
D4 is a 6 so long as your playing the campaign and are strung along by the better than usual story.
it drops to a 4 the moment that is over and the problems at the core of the game just can't be ignored anymore.
I was disapointed with baldurs gate 3 and its terrible writing
Starfield. Hogwarts was comfy wizard fun and I refuse to give Blizzard money in this day and age.
POE2 looks like it'll be fricking amazing, though it won't have the huge catalogue of stuff to do like POE 1 has.
>it won't have the huge catalogue of stuff to do like POE 1 has.
Thank god for that. 90% of the stuff to do is just annoying shit
(Also waiting on Shadow of the Erdtree)
>Baldurs Gate 3
GF was also interested cause
>Astarion
but shes been enjoying it too apart from that and shes not that much into games, very casual.

Not sorry for blog, but thanks for reading.
You, for your parents
Starfield wasn't a personal disappointment since my expectations were basically nonexistant but it was certainly a disappoint for anyone expecting the next Skyrim, including Bethesda and Microsoft. It sold really well but I'm sure at least some people were hoping they'd have another decade-spanning cashcow on their hands, and Starfield definitely isn't gonna be that. Even if the modding scene takes off, it's already lost so much momentum. They'd have to seriously turn things around to get people interested again.
I'd say starfield
When No Mans Sky was a better product on its release day you know that the most disappointing game of the decade is now Stafield
closed thread, GG OP
Maybe my expectations were too high, still disappointed which I can't say with the other two games.
>did you really think they were going to deliver the entire reason why everyone has ever wanted an immersive Hogwarts game while marketing it as an immersive Hogwarts game?
Hogwarts I guess since nobody shpuld have ever expected the others to be good
Diablo 4 is still fun
BG3
Baldur's Gate 3.
It's also my GOTY.
I just downloaded Hogwarts Legacy, are you telling me it's bad?
It's a pretty decent, comfy game, especially if you have nostalgia for HP franchise. Not sure why anyone was expecting a masterpiece from some literal who studio
I sometimes forget lots of zoomers never even read harry potter and don't realize how big it was at the time.
it's generic as frick.
Not great but not as bad as shit like Forspoken
Ff16
Whatever the new Zelda’s called I couldn’t believe they reused the same map
