Every single strategy game that came out in the year 2023 either sucked completely and was a lackluster sequel or was such a mediocre premise that just wasn't good enough.
What happened /vst/ bros?

JA3 was good, looking forward to DORF and Dust Front RTS, and it looks like the RTS genre is getting a resurgence of new IPs rather than re-releases.
I'm playing JAG 3 right now and I am enjoying it, most fun I've had since wartales.
>JA3 was good
Just finishing my first playthru. Although the AI is just sad and the UI is frustrating (pc), I have really enjoyed it. Mods could add a lot of life to it.
Men of War 2 got delayed.
I had a lot of fun with the beta, definitely looking forward to release. I do understand some of the grievances from OG fans, but I’m glad they shook things up, especially when Ostfront exists to scratch the AS2 itch.
>jagged alliance 3
>shadow gambit
>aliens dark descent
It was an okay year for me at least. And i am still looking forward Terminator: Dark Fate
2024 sounds promising but to be seen
>tempest rising
>homeworld 3
>DORF
>dust dront
>menace
Not counting the usual surprise stuff that might get released .
That aliens game was pretty good though
Why are you expecting new games to be any good? Where the hell have you been for the last 20 years?
Stop riding the new release carousel. It is pointless
Yes anon every strategy game since 2003 is dogshit, just go play HOMM3 or something and don't post
Yes, most strategy games since 2003 have been dogshit. So have most films and music. Why are you trying so hard to like new stuff? Because they are new? When you get older, you will see that only fools rush in
Why are you trying so hard to hate new stuff? Because they are new? When you get older, you will see people hate change and prefer familiarity
Because money worships growth, and our culture has been programmed to think new always equals good, there are always a flood of new titles for any medium. Looking for good things in this deluge is like looking for diamonds in a turd mine.
In any decade, only a few good books, games, shows, movies, etc. come out
You can consume all the new slop, desperately looking for the one good thing in it, or you can wait a bit and see what smart people are still talking about
At least tell me that you are in the industry and have a financial interest in new titles. Please don't be just another brain dead consumer
That's a fair enough take, but if you're the same anon who said "where have you been the last 20 years" then that's bullshit, since there obviously have been a few good games in that time.
>You can consume all the new slop, desperately looking for the one good thing in it, or you can wait a bit and see what smart people are still talking about
You're not completely wrong about that being the way to easily find what will be considered the best, but I also enjoy entertaining dumpster fires and the rough stuff. Though strategy games tend to be one of the worst for that since they tend to require more time to get to grips with than a rough FPS.
So you're saying you're completely dependent on the opinion of others because you can't find/won't look for anything worthwhile on your own, and then you tell your personal playtesters to not play anything new? Where's the logic in that?
how about I'm trying new stuff and paying for none of it?
Ayo what's up
As much as I enjoy AoE2 campaigns it's a game from over 20 years ago that I've been playing for probably longer than any other while AoE4 sucks ass.
AoE4 might be a bit of a disappointment as a successor but it doesn't outright suck ass anymore
>but it doesn't outright suck ass anymore
It's literally the same game as it was on release, with all the exact same problems they won't ever fix.
>It's literally the same game as it was on release
Well that's just blatantly false
I refuse to touch anything past Age of Conquerors for AoE2.
if this isn't a shitpost I feel genuinely sorry for you
HD edition's new content sucked so I just opted out of it when playing online and didn't bother with DE because I don't like the graphics and censored corpses.
I greatly enjoyed going through the 30-odd campaigns. They greatly expanded upon the technically limited original campaigns. I feel they are essential for anyone who enjoys RTS campaigns
I liked last year's games, tho. Can't have goat every year, I guess. Still, there's a few things about to launch in the following months.
so, the same as every other year since a decade?
*blocks your path*
And the Starsector update was literally empty.
2024 might be a lot better though. I think Ara: History Untold and Millenia both look interesting and there's a high chance of at least one of them being a genuinely good 4X game.
Millennia might do something fun and unique, but what about Ara looks at all promising to you? Looks like an even worse Humankind if that's even possible
2024... we'll be eating good, gsgbros...
Hope that wasn't just next terra invicta.
not at all, terra invicta actually came out while espiocracy never will
