Alright, just remember that you don't have to necessarily use electrical insulation tape under the 2 screws, you can also loosen them just slightly so they don't make contact with the board.
I’m about to jump into Minecraft. Not a game I’ve ever been super into but i’ve seen some people playing with utterly beautiful shaders and i wanna give it a go.
I pulled the trigger for the 900 bucks OLED an hour ago
they say there's a backlog for shipments
I have to stop thinking about this but I just want comfy portable true black levels emulation
Does this mean its actually shipped out and will arrive this upcoming week? I know its sunday but it updated this morning with a tracking number thats currently not active yet.
>Once I got a tracking number it arrived in like 1 day.

vr battles against summons at least have a reasonable logic to them (basically only get one window to break, another window to blow summon spirit bomb etc.)
There's nothing to ease yourself into. It's baby mode KDE with fixed updates from valve. You can't even install things with pacman without intentionally disabling the moron proof box they've set up. You have to use flatpaks to install things.
It's okay for beginners. I recommend distrobox if you want to install repositories since all of it gets installed in the user's home directory, it doesn't get removed after every update. Security-wise distrobox serves as a container so it's great even on regular linux machines if you want to be careful.
I was the same. It is in many ways way more efficient than windows and far easier to use than you'd expect, but it does still have a learning curve, especially once you really start trying to do anything fully removed from proton and steam's environment.
I dabble with Linux on occasion and more with the Steam Deck now, I like it a lot but yeah some things do take some dabbling and figuring out, especially if your use case is more niche. I haven't encountered anything insurmountable but I can see someone that only has a basic know-how on troubleshooting struggling hard.
One of my to do lists is to figure out how to setup RTP shit for RPGmaker games, I can't imagine it being too hard but knowing my luck it'll end up being a pain in the ass.
i was sick today playing gta4 in bed, was comfy and it ran great. also will throw on sonic racing transformed and touhou mountain of fate. still emulating mario wonder and mario rpg on it too
just gave it a quick few mission run to see how it performed earlier, downloaded the radio mod but havent put it on my deck yet. i did the same kind of mod when playing vice city weeks back lol
i think the touch capacity on the stick centers is better, effectively the same
i think the steering of the sticks feel more responsive to me than my LCD deck but that could just be from a year of wear
What is the console for the gamer who hates the steam deck, hates valve, hates gabe newell, hates PC gaming and wants an anti-steam deck console in everything?
I upgraded my launch 256 to 1TB today and have been playing space warlord organ trading simulator, Kingdoms of Amalur re-reckoning, and vampire survivors
I don't understand why hades is popular, it's repetitive as hell. You're basically grinding the same thing over and over for a few lines of dialogue. Only 50% of players even beat the game once and it wants you to be it 9 more times for the full story. It has barely enough content to support one full run, let alone 10.
I didn't enjoy it much either, and I play a lot of roguelites or whatever you want to call them
has decent enough gameplay, art is good, like the music, but I didn't feel like there was a lot of variation between runs.
maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance but after 20-30hrs I went back to other roguelites
>has decent enough gameplay, art is good, like the music, but I didn't feel like there was a lot of variation between runs.
This. It's got a good style, nothing really wrong with the gameplay itself, it's just repetitive as frick because there's so little content and variability between runs. It way overstays its welcome and it feels bad dropping it essentially halfway because they want you to grind out a bunch more runs to see the full story. Dunno what they were thinking. Hate that games that start off so strongly have such a huge bias in their positive perception. If you aren't beating a game, you didn't like it enough to beat it, so anyone who doesn't stick with a game to its end really should not be giving it good reviews.
So far it's like a filler arc like the anime original episodes but longer. I think it's supposed to take place between seasons 1 and 2, Kat and harem go on a cruise that gets taken hostage by pirates and she thinks it's another schizo sequel that is out to give her a villainess death again.
FPS games never quite feel right whenever I try to fiddle with the controller settings. Is there like a good general configuration for making FPS games not feel awkward?
I got Disgaea 1 Complete, Double Dragon & Kunio-Kun Collection, Dragon's Lair Trilogy, OneShot World Machine Edition, Prinny and Prinny 2, Rollerocaster Tycoon 3, Suika Game, and The World Ends With You Final Remix working on it.
Got a 1TB OLED and sold my 256gb LCD to a friends' teenaged son for cheap. Last I asked he was playing through the original Half-Life. He's a good egg.
Tried out tekken. Runs like ass when outputted to a 1080 display. I don’t care about visuals much, but getting it to run at 60fps makes it look like a 144p YouTube video. So probably not gunna pick it up
What's the best wall charger I can get for Steam Deck charging. I don't want to remove the one that came with it from the outlet since I have it nicely organized.
Any laptop USB-C charger will do. 45w is the minimum required, 65w recommended.
Thankfully this is a Deck and not the Switch where there's some frickery going on with their USB-C protocol.
>65w
Awesome. I appreciate the help man. Any recommendations? I assume Anker is the go to for most but something cheaper that is still reliable would be great. >Switch

Haven't tried that mode yet. Been playing Lego Fortnite and Battle Royale mainly. Haven't even touched STW for Vbucks lately. Even then I'll just use my Switch Pro controller on my Desktop if I really wanted that. Already use it for Elden Ring.
starfield is suprisingly OK on the deck, ofc certain cities drop to like sub 24fps. tempted to get my gog install of cyberpunk working on deck but cloud save syncing is a pain in the ass on linux, sad that egs is handled way easier in that regard. cant wait for steamOS 3 on desktop cuz its simple and comfy tbh, and i dont mind flatpak and "no u cant break it" vibes
Playing Crisis Core. It's bretty good, but not enjoying it as much as I did on PSP back in the day. I think at the time I was riding high on FF7 shit like Advent Children.
It looks nice, though, and runs super well on the Deck.

Got a Retroid Pocket 3+ a couple months ago. The A button and R bumper have inexplicably stopped working. Pressing it causes it to constantly fluctuate between pressed/non-pressed.
I am now highly considering the Steam Deck. My friend is trying to sell me on the OLED, being overall completely better. Should I just get one of the cheaper models or shell out for the OLED? I want to do emulation mostly and play a few steam games here and there.

Yeah it shit out on me but Im not out nearly as much as I would be if it was a deck. So I'm here asking if it's worth it.
The fact that Deck threads just embrace the forum slide memes and rob them of their power (Ick on eck, flopped and shitted) is honestly one of the most powerful strategies I've seen on Ganker.
hmm ok so i just finished reading the thread and it sounds like the deck didn't do very well huh? maybe next time it won't be as 'shitted' and 'flopped' as you are all saying
>buy oled deck because of 90hz >play quake >weird fricking jitter when moving and turning
Holy shit how did nightdive frick this up so bad. The quake remaster's frame interpolation is fricking broken above 60hz. Does literally nobody at nightdive have a 144hz monitor?
No, but I do have both. I was surprised by how minimal the difference between screens actually is though for all people hyped it up to be. By far the best aspect of the oled is the better battery life.
I'm planning on getting a deck until summer. Should I get the LCD or OLED? I don't plan on playing AAA games or anything too demanding. I just want to play old / indie games and also emulate stuff. is the OLED much better than the LCD?
Oled basically overhauls and improves the whole deck, but whether that's worth an extra couple hundred bucks is subjective. The biggest improvements are battery and screen, but at some point valve updated the base deck's screen because it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I have to compare both decks side by side to really even notice a difference and even then it only really matters for games with really vibrant colors and blackest of blacks.
If you're only interested in old, indie, and emulation then I'd say the lcd deck is more than good enough.
The OLED Deck is noticeably lighter in my hands, plus the grippy sticks and battery battery life, IMHO make it a well worthwhile upgrade.
I don't care if some latest chingchong handheld gets 30% more FPS in a 2023 AAA title. The 90hz responsiveness / 45 refresh, makes the OLED Deck feel like another device running at 60hz.

This is so reductive you could describe just about any roguelike/lite game like Binding of Isaac.
He just doesn't like roguelikes lol. Nothing wrong with that but I've played Isaac and Returnal and Hades is better than both.
Binding of Isaac has far more content and variability.
yea its overhyped + supergiant are critical darlings

Not much. All of the ones I'm hyped for are in 2025. Though tbh I don't think my Deck will run MH6 well but we'll see I guess.
Dragon's Dogma 2 and Elden Ring's DLC mainly.

Yeah and every time you die you feel like you completely start over. Hades has far better progression.
Settings from decky? Any add-on to look out for specifically?
Controller Tools is a must, no way to see your controller's battery status otherwise.

It didn't brick it, it just required a reboot.
Sounds like dog shit for linux overall, will avoid.
Any switch game reccs?
Switch doesn't run that well on Deck honestly.
I hope Disgaea 7 runs well, there's no way I'm buying all that dlc on steam.

Rollerdrome has been really fun on the deck. Spelunky 2 has been fun, but it is certainly no HD.
Been emulating pic related. Literally top tier game without the original controls
i gotta dig up my dump of that
KIU is the last truly good game Nintendo has made. Can't believe it's over a decade old now.
What's the best control scheme for that on Deck and how to set up?
Can you get the shader cache anywhere? This and most 3DS games for some reason chug for me as they build shaders, worse than Switch even.
I just beat all F-zero X cups on master, almost got f zero gx completely but I've been stuck on the final story mission on very hard.
Has anyone used one of these as a home server? (Self hosted spotify alternatives etc) If so how does it do? I'm looking at both this and a raspberry Pi.
Anyone try playing Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines or Zone of Enders 2 on the Deck? Do they work well?
protondb
spoilers, all run like shit coz deck is ass
Bloodlines runs fine and zone of enders just needs protonge.
Passed ZoE2 a few months ago on my Deck, solid 60fps and everything.
Haven't tried bloodlines, but it should be fine, like
said. Do use the trackpad for that, much better for first person games than anything else.

it's a bot bro, frfr
only point to own a deck is to emulate switch games and it can't even do that well (splatoon 3, bayo 3... the list goes on)
just modchip a switch OLED and wait until switch 2 drops this year and moggs everything for the next decade
Threadly reminder not to be an Oledcuck
I don't notice any smearing on mine, but I also haven't tried to replicate it.
>excited to play smt3 outside
>has online DRM
i really should've pirated it, frick you atlus
thanks for your money homosexual all proceeds will fund persona 5 KING
>buy oled deck because of 90hz
>play quake
>weird fricking jitter when moving and turning
Holy shit how did nightdive frick this up so bad. The quake remaster's frame interpolation is fricking broken above 60hz. Does literally nobody at nightdive have a 144hz monitor?
DELET
To be fair this is a problem with nightdive's quake, not the deck itself
Other games at 90hz feel great
Use ironwail or a real quake port not nightdive slop
Anyone else have both oled and lcd deck and notice the oled speakers sound like fricking garbage in comparison and also way quieter?
No, but I do have both. I was surprised by how minimal the difference between screens actually is though for all people hyped it up to be. By far the best aspect of the oled is the better battery life.
Still playing D4. My favorite looking Deck game probably.
I'm planning on getting a deck until summer. Should I get the LCD or OLED? I don't plan on playing AAA games or anything too demanding. I just want to play old / indie games and also emulate stuff. is the OLED much better than the LCD?
It has an oled screen and better battery life.
Those are pretty much the only differences.
If you're only interested in old, indie, and emulation then I'd say the lcd deck is more than good enough.
>is the OLED much better than the LCD?
yes, in a bunch of small ways that add up. the battery life and charge times alone make it worth it imo
unfortunately Valve doesn't have the Steam Deck out in Australia yet officially, but here's a photo of me spending my NYE with my dog while I played Fortnite
If you're playing fortnite on a rog, the deck probably wouldn't do much for you anyway, would be redundant.
