hmm ok so i just finished reading the thread and it sounds like the deck didn't do very well huh? maybe next time it won't be as 'shitted' and 'flopped' as you are all saying
Rune Factory 3 Special
Been playing Lost Odyssey through 360 emulation and despite some lighting related visual issues, the game runs great
>360 emulation
Huh? Windows version of xenia through wine then, I'm guessing?
Just finished Signalis, and I'm going into Astlibra now. Loving the first chapter so far.
Astlibra is fricking based.
Love that lil homie like you wouldn't believe.
suzerain, fnv
How do you manage Toddfield?
well enough, dropped the game after 130 hours however
usually by uninstalling and never playing it again. refund it if you can.
LAD Gaiden was one of my favourite games this year and one of the best RGG games despite clearly being very rushed.
taking off a week of work for yakuza 8 on deck
hope it runs well otherwise i'm playing go mecha ball

here's my hours of deck since july of 2022
wish one of these websites would let me track h-games but alas
is totk actually native FPS on deck yet?
?t=129
>no
okay, noted
>Anon is deaf and blind
he asked for native
maybe in another 7 years, huh guys?
Yeah that looks native to me, what's the problem?
NTA, but I tried playing some Solar Ash on Deck recently, and it could barely run at 40 FPS with potato graphics and reduced res, and my eyes was hurt. Switching to PC with 60 FPS and good setting was like having your nose unclogged. Consolegays are truly fricking animals for playing in 24 FPS in 2024.
Why? Why is this selling well?
It's a shitty Linux PC you can't upgrade easily. Is portability really that big of a seller?
wtf a products main draw is its main selling point. imagine my shock
Yeah, upgradeability has been so important to the general gamer consumer. That's why home consoles sell so poorly.
>good specs, can run reasonably demanding games on your big gameboy
>great controls, with great software support, and comfortable form factor
>supports all pc games, emulators, and software in general, with the limitations of wine of course, which has good resources for troubleshooting (protondb and pcgamingwiki)
>plenty options for enthusiasts. full desktop mode supported by the official setup, steam controller onscreen keyboard makes portable desktop reasonable, and can install anything else you want (i put arch on mine)
Well said.
All lies, how much are you paid?
sadly zero dollars and zero cents. if i could apply to shill it for payment though i definitely would. its a good product so at least id feel passionate about it
All true.
Unbelievable. Not a single inaccurate statement. How does Deck do it.
my only complaint is linux. i'm a windows baby and setting up emudeck was a bit of a headache.
How? Clicking through the installer is braindead easy.
? it takes like 2 minutes
>Go to website
>Download installer
>Click installer
how is that ANY different then installing something on Windows?
How's Arch btw? Are there working solutions for hooking up the shortcut buttons and such? An overlay maybe?
you mean like, the steam button + hold b to force close or steam button + x to open keyboard? thats all handled by steam and works as soon as you install steam.
as far as general usage, it was a lot of tinkering. if you dont already use arch and have an expectation of what youd be starting with, i wouldn't recommend it. you need to manually setup things like the audio and suspend buttons, and for me things like touchscreen didn't work properly out of the box. i have something now that i really like, and i updated the Steam Deck arch wiki page with everything i have managed to figure out so hopefully thats useful, but some features i miss like the intuitive ingame fps limiter or monitor hz reduction i haven't bothered yet to try and setup.
also another thing i am having trouble with, that i dont recall having with the normal steamos install, is focus. some games, the ingame overlay show up beneath the game so you can't utilize it. that includes things like the steam keyboard. or the keyboard will show up on top, but refuses to focus on the game while trying to type so you can't use that either. i setup kdeconnect on my phone to type shit in the few cases that was a problem, like fallout 4 and halo mcc. this is probably just a window manager problem, i haven't bothered yet to try figuring out if other icewm focus options work better yet and might just move to xfce4
I see, wonder if Nobara is better off.
>Is portability really that big of a seller?
Yes.
yes because adulting leaves you sparse time for fun. you would know if you were one
I finished Mechblaze on normal, very fun 2D mech shooter, a little simple and short. Replaying now on hard. It got me interested to give Metal Warriors (SNES) another shot, which is very stylish.

Open the individual emulator in desktop mode.
I recently downloaded and started to play DQX offline with the English patch. It feels kinda laggy though, I’m not sure what the best settings are on Ryujinx to make it smoother, if it’s even possible

I am VERY tempted to get an OLED one but I'm second guessing myself because I have a history of buying things, using them for a few hours and having them gather dust for years like my Quest 2.
That being said unlike The Quest 2 The Deck should be very easy to jump in and out of at a moment's notice, especially with synced saves.
How is it as a generic computer you'd plug in to a docking station?
I'm not planning on playing games with it dock (with the exception of maybe something like Rimworld) but I'm in a position where I use a Surface Pro 7 as a main computer plugged to a dock sometimes and I'm wondering if it's any good.
specs-wish it should be a straight improvement over what I have now and I'm not new to using Linux OSs but I've heard things like certain directories being wiped on update.
Is it practical to live out of and reliably use things like LyX, intellij IDEs and Firefox for muh videos and Ganker? does it handle 4k youtube videos without stuttering?
i read every word of this post and also agree that deck shitted and flopped extremely badly as frick
Playing Valkyrie Profile...badly. Very, very badly. Though, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.
I sold my old Steam Deck to get this one. No regrets. It takes everything about the original and improves on it. Better wifi, battery life, buttons, thumb sticks, etc. They really got this thing dialed-in tight now.
For me, the thing that matters most is HDR and weight. It might be my imagination, but the second I picked it up, I thought holy shit this thing is far lighter.
EmuDeck ALONE makes this the best gaming value money can buy.
PROTIP: get a 65W battery bank (always good to have handy in case your stranded and phone needs a quick charge) and Hiearcool USB C Hub Pro to HDMI. Don't pay $90 for that stupid fricking dock. Ripoff.
>Don't pay $90 for that stupid fricking dock. Ripoff
too late, plus docks works 100% of the time without weird bugs connecting to other displays
i'd love to get a dock but it pisses me off that the official one is $70. also i don't trust third party chink docks.
I got myself a usb-c port for less than 30 euros and it's been working fine without issues for more than a year. Plus you can use it with other stuff so it's not only limited to Steam Deck.
you can use the deck dock with other shit too the connector fits any old laptop and phone

How can I configure the right touch pad to be the touch screen? So I can aim by moving my finger on the pad
have to have the configuration where both screens are visable (make the touch screen really small) and then you use a 'mouse region' in steam overlay so that you can map the mousepad to be a 1:1 region over that part of the screen where the the 3ds touch screen is
if that makes any sense, otherwise google
what
said, but there are also already community layouts made for this configuration you can just download directly off steam.

Got witcher 3 on the winter sale. It's okay, not super into it but going to try to finish it.
Nioh 2 works better than I had initially thought, just needed to TDP limit properly.
sad that game is optimized so poorly, other souls slops have no issue
for whatever reason, it just seems to take as much power as you can throw at it so you really have to limit TDP or you lose like 50% battery life with 0 gains
yea its the same with windows devices as well
What's the suggested TDP? I usually keep mine at 10 and have no issues.
It varies wildly based on the game. I usually just go to an area where the game has to work its hardest and then dial back the TDP until just before it starts impacting my FPS/frametime.
I see, I'm probably too lazy to do that so I'll just keep it at 10 for most games.
>bought a Steam Deck for Christmas

Bros, the Deck is fricking awesome. Just a few days ago I have played Half-life 2 for the first time. It is fricking awesome. Also, playing Legacy of Goku 2 on a big monitor is so fricking fun. I am satisfied.

How? Consolegay or zoomer?
Zoomer. Due to growing up in post-wartime ex yugoslavia, my last console was the ps2. I have been working for some time now and I have decided to see what I have missed. I am really satisfied with the deck.
I'm glad you're having a good time anon, you earned it
based, I'm glad you're having fun. hl2 is amazing. the episodes are great, too, and you don't have to go through a decade of blue balls for more half life like the rest of us. granted, I haven't played alyx and probably never will, but still ...
if i get a SteamDeck and just use it mostly as a desktop gaming PC docked because i already have a macbook will i ever be a real woman
You could get something more powerful for the same price if you sacrifice the portability. Ask if that's worth the tradeoff
i kinda like the portability though bc i wanna play a lot of games in bed too sometimes

>tfw when lcd-let
Though my biggest gripe isn't the screen (16:10 why??) or the battery but the fan noise when you try something more demanding.
It no longer vibrates like an airplane engine with the OLED versions?
thx 4 beta testing
i use my LCD-deck as my desktop, perma docked to two monitors. OLED for gaming
I replaced my backplate with the transparent JSAUX one with the central fan hole and the fan's very quiet even when running something like Elden Ring.
>16:10 why
16:9 sucks absolute ass on small screens.
The problem is a ton of games don't have proper 16:10 support so you have to deal with letterboxing.
Not sure what you've been playing, the vast majority of PC games I've played support it just fine.

Currently waiting on my RMA. I had the (apparently pretty common) issue of the OLED model having problems with some wired headphones, where you would hear a constant buzzing noise from them even if no audio was played. GamersNexus also talked about this. I opened a ticket and they immediately offered a repair. Seems to be an easy fix. Probably some shielding that has to be installed or whatever.
delete thiS NOW
why?
lmao after reading this post i immediately tested my deck with wired headphones. (usually use bluetooth)
I got stuck yesterday trying to making work RDR 1 on RPCS3, but the ISO isn't getting recognized.
I'll try with another one, or go read all the rpcs3 docs for making it work, I'm starting to think that's the problem.
That was easily fixable without RMAing:

it's wild how much a huge salary increase has changed my perspective on buying stuff. I literally do not think there's anything left that I want. I spent almost $7800 usd this sale, wiped out my wishlist minus unreleased games, and I've played NOTHING.
the perfect consoomer
Brother, I've been where you are now, and I still think for a lot of reasons it's worth reeling this in.
There's nothing left for me to buy that I'm remotely interested in so yeah I'm done for now, but it's crazy. I finally crossed the threshold to monthly expenses being under 40% of my income, 40% to savings/stocks/bonds/401k, 20% to frick around with, I fixed up my house, got new plumbing hooked up for my bathroom and kitchen, and I was just sitting there staring at my christmas bonus.
fricking crazy.
>I spent almost $7800 usd this sale,
jesus frick, how much money do you make?
that's like $2k more than what's sitting in my account rn
you guys hiring? I have a resume.
Can't emulate PS2 properly, crap
what the frick are you talking about?
Try it for yourselves, try a variety of games, there are glitches and slowdown everywhere no matter what you do. Utter shite.
Some dude said to me in another thread he "fixed" one game by running the PAL version at 50hz after fricking around in power tools for hours and it now only has minor slowdown lol fricking copium at its best.
>there are glitches and slowdown everywhere
yes, that's the current state of pcsx2. stop trying to spin this
>t. been doing volunteer testing for pcsx2 for years
So the deck can't emulate ps2 properly which is what I fricking said. Thank you, listen to this man.
no, pcxs2 can't emulate ps2 properly. the steam has nothing to do with. you're trying way too hard man
Trying too hard? I'll make it real simple, tell me where I'm lying in the statement of the deck can't do ps2 properly. You literally just said the emulation itself is pants. So it is inherently pants on the deck. I'm calling out the c**ts saying it's fine.
Do you argue in the mirror when you're bored or something? I'm literally not opposing anything you said lol
name some games that don't run, because even late gen open world shit like SotC runs fine for me
finally someone has the courage to speak out against the deckshills
i think you for your truth, brother
I'm not saying it to piss off people, I'm pissed off myself, I wanted it to be great lol I like the deck. But the shilling of it being this perfect emu box when it isn't is just annoying.
many people saying this
steam deck emulates ps2 just fine.
pcsx2 is just notoriously unoptimized. they claim that almost all games are playable but a lot of them still have graphical issues to this day. i am emulating ps2 games on the deck for some time now and it's the same experience as on pc.
>emulate ps2 properly
you will rarely get "proper" ps2 emulation, even on the best pc.
It works great. The frick are you on?
unfortunate
i was going to buy deck but now i think i will look for other device, thank you

I wound up getting the oled model for Christmas so I gifted my lcdeck to a friend since he was really interested in getting one. He's been using it to play BG3 and enjoys it so far. I've been using my oled to play Hades and Arkham Knight. Hades was in a weird spot for me for a while because I knew it was my kind of game and I'd burn through it as soon as I got it, but I'd have to compromise with lcd if I got it for pc and I'd compromise with no mkb if I got it for my Switch oled (where I have my best runs tbh.) Now that Valve pulled this its like my switch was made completely useless overnight. The battery life is noticeably better and the screen brightness mogs swoled so bad it's not even funny.
?si=touLW9z_LOIzMsXi
lol
Based.
Thank you homie
Oled is worth it over the lcd imo when you factor everything in.
>more expensive much brighter oled screen
>larger storage (it's like a $60 ssd by itself)
>better wifi chip (if you never dock it this is huge for downloads and also just for not dcing)
>better bluetooth chip (apparently you couldn't connect two bluetooth controllers before which is nuts to me)
>larger battery with a more efficient chip (its literally twice the battery life in most cases lol)
from 400 to 550 its actually a good deal imo and i was adamant on only paying $400 for one. just wait for a sale if you think its still too much but i agree with other anons that you should definitely go with oled.
What? I played many PS1 + PS2 games on my deck. They run much better on the deck than the console.
final fantasy 7 remake. It's okay, the port is ass but the game runs pretty good. Had to use mods to turn off dynamic resolution.
I'm playing with my wiener and emulating an intercourse
yesterday it took like 2 hours to set up emudeck. apart from the jankiness of linux and steamos interacting with each other, i am loving this thing. I'm using it ALOT more than when i had my switch. and the grips are much more ergonomic.
Currently settling on windwaker HD, super mario world, vampire survivors and binding of isaac.
I did try to play older AAA games like Assassins Creed Unity but the screen seemed a little too small for the game. Not sure if I need to adjust or if that AAA games just aren't really meant for handhelds.
>deck
>is jank, screen small, AAAs not run well
sorry to hear this, i think i will wait for more optimized devices
probably not "jank" but moreso technical. I'm not a linux guy so i had to look up some tutorials. Anyways i have a 3080 if i ever want to play AAA games. i bought this thing just for snes/gba/n64 emulation and indie stuff.
It is a pretty fun device. Hearing that Valve has plans for a stronger model in the future sounds pretty cool.
What's the best 1TB drive upgrade for the deck right now? Any manufactures to avoid?
I would recommend a big micro sd instead, the load speeds are going to be nearly identical because the deck uses a good filesystem, but if you want a proper nvme then look here

What switch games run at worse performance? I always see the same Kirby webm spammed, and then when it gets called out as bullshit with multiple sources of proof, the same schizo as usual says that all these videos are fake
bayo 3, splatoon 3... (the list goes on)
as someone who bought a switch solely to play splatoon 3, mk8, and bayonetta, i pretty much returned the console and games immediately. you really are not missing if you don't play those games.
only thing worth getting a switch for is for the zelda games. but at that point, i'm just gonna emulate at 60fps on PC lol.
Bayonetta seems to run fine, but I could only find one video of Splatoon 3 so I have no clue what it's like now
?si=MvYNnfEmAB14zaO2
?si=UXYSWaMBZ6q5Dab8
its funny whenever someone points out that the deck can't emulate splatoon. like you really think someone's gonna buy a handheld to emulate a fricking multiplayer game in offline mode?
TotK is the only game I can think of that runs at sub-30. That's the resident schizoposter so you can just ignore him.
only reason to own a deck is to emulate switch games and it doesnt even do that well
the best choice is to just modchip a switch OLED and wait for Switch 2 to drop in 2024
It runs everything I care about quite well, and not just switch games
no seriously, stop replying to him
So I'm still not convinced the deck is anything other than an unportable brick, but looking at the refurbs the price is competitive enough. $300 for a brick that I can lug around the house at least seems okay. I just would never pay like $700 for the OLED model.
That said, is there a tracking website or something that tells you when refurb units come in stock? And how often do they stock? If it's a one and done thing I might just go for an open box ASUS Rog Ally instead.
get the oled. LCD is obsoleted and not worth the cheaper price. it has worse battery life as well.
I'm not paying a 30% mark-up for OLED. I game on my Switch just fine.
As for the battery life this thing is basically staying plugged in all the time anyways. I don't plan on taking it anywhere.
you know that its not just the oled screen that's been improved right? lighter weight, more battery, quieter fans. If price is that big of an issue for you then yea get the LCD, but theres a reason alot of past LCD owners regret buying the deck at launch because the OLED model that just came out really is that much of an improvement.
I remember reading the lighter weight was only like 3%, so I don't care and as I said battery is not a concern. How much quieter are the fans though? Because it's basically another $200 just for that in my case compared to a refurbished LCD.
Legion is bigger with a shittier form factor and chinkhelds are weaker. However that is why I said I was considering the Rog Ally, but the price is also a bit too high.
ally melts SD cards (lol)
>chinkhelds are weaker
Anything with a 6800U or 7800U is stronger than the deck if you crank up the TDP up. Deck wins out at low TDP always but if you're plugged in to a wall that doesn't really matter anyway beyond concerns about heat and comfort.
>ally melts SD cards (lol)
That was fixed back in August iirc. Just make sure you're not buying an old unit before that production line.
>Anything with a 6800U or 7800U is stronger than the deck
Anything you recommend? Only ayaneo seems okay and they are priced very similarly to the Deck so it's a moot point.
Not really. I only have a deck which I am very happy with. I'm just pointing out that for your usecase it makes more sense to trade battery life away for more performance. For me personally, I think that defeats the entire point of a handheld. I definitely don't trust the chinky stuff especially for customer service so Legion Go would be the way I'd go I guess.
Yeah that's why I told you it's either the Deck or ally. Chinkhelds make no sense when they are priced the same as the Deck and only marginally more powerful.
it has, to name a few things
90hz refresh
more power efficient APU
bigger battery
much faster charge times
faster wifi
better haptics
better bumpers
If your use case is to just be tethered to a wall without any concern for battery life, you might as well get a legion or chinkheld which will perform better than a deck when unconstrained by TDP anyway
NOTHING.
The thing got stuck in a crash/verifying install loop after leaving desktop mode and now it's not booting.
AGAIN.
And this time even the recovery stopped working. It's a BRICK.
I played lies of p and it made me wish combat in elden ring wasn't stuck in 2009 so now I'm replaying elden ring modded with a bloodborne dodge and sekiro deflect.
why it flop so hard
True. It is a much better device than the Switch. Free online, huge library of PC games and can emulate almost every console for free. Deck is pretty great.

Valve doesn't need propaganda, they were the first to do what they set out to do and that's the only reason people have stuck by them for decades. Epic Games is spiteful and just wants to become Valve which is exactly why they can't despite owning Fortnite which is insanely popular and successful.

The Deck is awesome, great for many things, stop using it to play mobile games.
Most switch games. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pikman 4 run better on Steamdeck than my bro's OLED switch.
>"Great On Deck"
>game is actually mediocre at best
bravo valve
Is the OLED really worth the extra dosh?
Steam deck isnt worth a penny in this state wait for deck 2 when it can actually run video games which why it is sold in the first place
Not for me. I bought a phased out LCD model for cheap from the offical site because they are getting rid of them and I am satisfied. I use it mostly docked tho.
The battery life improvements are pretty big. The general user experience is much better in ways I didn't expect like charge times and download speeds. If you already have an LCDeck the question is more complicated but if you don't have an 'eck OLED is easily worth it.
See
Why do you want me to see a message I posted myself my fellow gay linux user of color?
I literally just did a full playthrough of Demon's Souls over the last few days. It emulates great.
>great
"Great" emulation by Ganker standards is not good enough for me.
anon its literally native resolution and 60 fps, I'm sorry not everyone can have a 4090 you unpleasable frick
I just don't see a reason to emulate something so easily to come by, it would be like trying to emulate Pokemon Go, if you own a Deck you're most likely an older player, you should know better.
I mean, I went for 30fps but that's just because I wanted to save battery life. I get about 3.5 hours like this. Still a way better experience than native hardware. Yeah, it doesn't beat 4K + 60/120fps patch on my PC but it's also a fricking handheld with a teeny tiny 15W TDP APU that I have capped down to 8-9W. Expecting more on portable hardware just seems to be either powered by ignorance or it's just thinly veiled shitposting. The fact that I can emulate Demon's Souls at all on a handheld is incredible. It's really an amazing experience.
to me, ps3 emulation is piss poor on a lot of games but games like demons souls and lollipop chainsaw works perfectly fine, and I'm content with that. got an SD card filled with Roms from every big console and on top of that I can play stuff like cyberpunk and elden ring on the built in ssd. as a laptop moron the 'eck is the best purchase I ever made
emulate on pc, add it to steam and stream it to your deck
i literally got 9 hours playing mgs4 perfectly emulated but i also have a powerful cpu
KINO.
Tell me some good decky plugins to use, I only have steamgriddb and protondb. I had vibrantdeck and powertools but got rid of them after 3.5 since I wasn't using them anymore.
>pays $700 console
>cant plug and play
Many such cases sadly
HLTB, DeckSettings, DeckFAQs, and RadiYo! cause I have some local stations in my area I like worth listening to.
what changed with 3.5 to make powertools obsolete?
A lot of people just used powertools to turn off multithreading to improve performance in emulators. They fixed the SMT bug in 3.5 so I don't think there's any need for that anymore but you can still use it for other tweaks.
Started playing NiGHTS into Dreams lately
Pure soul
Valve has already offically confirmed that they plan to make Deck 2. Would a 2025. release be possible?
more like 2026
Kiwami 2, Destroy all Humans remake, Seek and Destroy & Hyrule Warriors
>Hyrule Warriors
Which emulator, and did you find any improvements with certain settings?
not anon but I play both hyrule warrior games a lot on yuzu, there is a few bugs but its a really solid framerate (despite age of calamity sometimes shitting the bed) just make sure to do it on handheld mode, since the resolution makes no difference on the 'ecks screen
Yuzu in Handheld mode + cryotool settings + 4GB VRAM in bios
ive been playing a lot of fallout 4 and pizza tower on me 'eck. its replaced my pc for anything that doesn't really take advantage of mouse+keyboard
How much can I get for my LCope on FB market?
Depends on storage and screen. Someone might be willing to pay more for etched glass but you're looking at 300-350 depending. I wouldn't go below 300.

Consistent top seller on Steam albeit with more units sold than last year
Nice, good luck catching up to the Switch's 130 million!
>catching up
>to a 6 year old console from the most popular gaming company on the planet which sells their console on every major retailer on earth when the deck is sold only on steam and marketed towards pc gamers who already have a gaming system
based disingenuous moron-kun

still shits and flops on shitch oled lol.
Second one is a cool concept ngl. I hate the ergonomics of the 3ds but if you could use the second screen for applications? I'd try it.
Enjoy you pwm burning your eyes 🙂
What for the aya neo thing? I'll never buy it I'd just try it out for ds emulation if a friend had one.
I'm playing bravely default 2
after this I'm going to finish divinity 2 and then maybe move onto balders gate 3
I still havent gotten into emulation, been putting off installing EmuDeck for months but the first thing I will probably play when I do is Golden Sun 1/TLA
The sad truth about emulation is that everything worth emulating I've already long since emulated. All the games with true lasting value that I would like to play again are just on steam.
>been putting off installing EmuDeck for months
it is insanely easy and straightforward
Yeah but like I said, I haven't got anything I'm really itching to emulate. Except maybe TotK? But I figured I'd need to give it a year-ish for yuzu or that other one to optimise for it.
Only reason I even think about golden sun is because I'm a fanboy
emudeck is really intuitive as far as integration with steam. id say it is worth setting up. all your games get steam entries with full art which is very nice. you could also use retroarch, or use dedicated emulators directly if you just want to play a few games. emudeck is messy, and installs way too much if you only are interested in a few things.
any deckchads try elden ring reforged?
Playing Super Mario Land 2. The colorization is nice and I like the addition of Luigi but I miss some quirks of the original like the 1-Up hearts and the feather on Mario's hat.
Forgot, I'm talking about the DX mod of course.

Looks like something FLOPPED already
>immediately after this was posted, the seething troony ITT got cleaned up
holy shit ecker IS a mod
People insult me and call me mentally unwell when mods are directly on VALVe's payroll, you would NEVER see this kind of protection for the switch or any other console for that matter.
>VALVe
literally no one says this
can the deck even sleep a game like a nintendo switch?
Yeah of course
>
well i guess im sold then, that's the one thing that made it easy for me to get back into gaming, switch's sleep function
windows 10 modern standby is designed so that it can send telemetry data back to azure cloud. im not kidding look up vista sideshow, they took that old ass code and repurposed it for surveillance
yes, very easily in fact
yes
yes, and it even works with emulators like RPCS3
It's a little bit less snappy than the switch and once every few months I'll have a game glitch out when resuming, but for the most part its actually way better than I thought it'd be
that was the thing I was saying would make or break the steam deck from day 1, the ability to quickly start and stop your game is what MAKES handheld gaming work
It's also why it's hard to recommend the windows based ones, they're so much less reliable on wakeup that you can't rely on it to work
for some reason window's laptops never want to stay in sleep mode. I can't recall how many time's I've gone to my classes and pulled out my laptop only to find it hot as shit and the battery dead.
Windows is a mess, it's spent so long trying to be the operating system that does everything that everything uses that it can't really do anything perfectly
Which is completely fine on a desktop where versatility is valuable, but on a handheld device you really want it to be fit for function and that is something that windows will never ever be.
What does this have to do with the discussion of the thread topic? I'm going to ask the mods on IRC for their input.
flopped
comical
flipped.
Ayaneo Flop
Oh boy, I can't wait to go back to shit ergonomics for no fricking reason.
>an upgraded DS
actually a neat concept, since it'd protect the screen when closed up.
hmm ok so i just finished reading the thread and it sounds like the deck didn't do very well huh? maybe next time it won't be as 'shitted' and 'flopped' as you are all saying
>just dropped Dishonored 2 cause characters were too shitty for me to care after the time travel mission
>start Mankind Divided because I haven't played that one yet either
>easy to get locked 60, but the game looks a little jaggy doing it and text is a hit hard to read
>frick it, let's crank this sucker and try 45fps90hz
>surprisingly playable
>can even drop a few more watts to save battery and it stays locked
I thought this was a reddit meme, but it's pretty legit actually.
>45fps 90hz
wait what? shouldn't you just set to 45hz instead?
there is no extra power cost to increasing the refresh and if the refresh is double/triple your framerate, missing a frame will recover your frametime faster so it's a less shitty experience if you get frame drops
At 90hz, each frame is on screen twice, but the system will still accept input at 90hz.
While it's not as smooth as 60fps, it doesn't have the same molasses feeling as 30fps does, and the reduced smoothness is marginal to the point the game still feels okay to play.
If it was a more high-stakes reflex game, I'd probably just Moonlight it from my PC at 90fps though.
it flop hard
Traveling a lot for work and interested in buying one. Would like to play some AAA games. Would it be worth to get this over Legion go if I value performance and detachable controllers seem cool?
If you think it's cool, get it bro. if you don't like it, you could always return it and get something else
deck not really good for AAA games imo. most people are using it to play retro, indie, clearing old backlog games. if you are traveling alot for work and want to play AAA games i feel like a gaming laptop would be better because you could use it for work as well.
You can use the deck for work as well.
>trying to do work on a handheld
that sounds gay and dumb
Might be gay but it's real smart, just hookup a keyboard and you are set.
have you tried doing work on one of these
kill me
perf on the deck is better than the legion at lower TDP
perf on the legion is better than the deck at higher TDP
higher TDP means more heat and less battery life
deck also has trackpads and the OS is integrated well in general
take your pick
i am going to wait for a sale on the OLED version
the first thing i will play is Dungeon Travellers 2 I Forgot the Rest of the Title i wanted to play it since I 100% the first game on my Vita. Im flabergasted that it got translated a whole decade later.
post your face when Valve commits consumer suicide when they release the Steambox which is dedicated to streaming VR to the Deckard headset (two devices required)
It's still really good for emulating older games and playing portably because of its battery but it's clear by now that the 2021 hardware isn't enough to keep up with how little PC devs optimize their games. At the moment it gets mogged by the ROG Ally and the Legion Go
for me its Aya Neo Kun
>At the moment it gets mogged by the ROG Ally and the Legion Go
Only when they're plugged in, effectively making them shitty laptops. At 15w they get 10fps more lol. Deck Oled battery life mogs that.
You know you can run 25w unplugged? I went from 40 FPS in the Yakuza 8 demo 900p FSR quality to over 60 easily while the Deck is locked at 800p 15w.
>steam shill calling anyone else a Chinese shill
>You know you can run 25w unplugged?
For an orgasmic 67 minutes.
>rog shill calling me a chink shill
ni hao, wuo hen shi huan bing chilling
>to keep up with how little PC devs optimize their games.
If it runs so poorly you can't play it on a deck, I likely wouldn't want to play it on PC either.
We've come full circle. Devs in the 90s were designing their games for people to update their hardware all the time and no one got good performance in max graphics settings on Crysis when it launched
The Legion Go is so close, yet so fricking far
>only one trackpad
>R1 button wrapped halfway down the fricking side with an extra button over there because reasons
>grip buttons are vertical on one half but horizontal for the other half, again for no reason
>no trackpad pressure sens/button
>no end-of-flight trigger buttons, one of Deck’s biggest drawbacks relative to SC
>detachable controller joycon things, but the gyro is in the fricking center box, not the controller itself
Why. How could you be so close to the perfect design of “Steam Deck with detachable Joycons” and then snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with moronic ass design choices like that
>b-but muh FLOPS
>muh watts
Bro I play video games, controls come first.
Ausgay here, was leaning towards the Lenovo but the ROG allys on sale atm. Which should I get for playing games on a couch/in bed?
lenovo if you like fps + shitty gimmicks
ROG if ur a gamer
I liked the screen on the Lenovo, whats the main advantages of the ROG atm?
>cheaper
>smaller
>freesync display
Ally is lighter and has VRR when you can't get consistent framerates to smooth out stutters. Plus has better speakers. Legion Go has the joycons if that's appealing to you. Legion Go unfortunately has a portrait display instead of a landscape display like the Ally so if you're going to try and play certain PC games with it it might not play without some mods or fan patches
Joycons are pretty irrelevant to me, id primarily be playing in bed but I really have no clue if the Lenovo would be too heavy/clunky for that. The 7 inch screen and no touchpad are the main downsides of the Rog Ally, but better speakers.quieter and cheaper make it a tough decision
rog ally better than lenovo imo.
>Which should I get for playing games on a couch/in bed?
Deck. If you're gonna be tethered to a wall then Legion, but at that point you might as well get a laptop which mogs all UMPCs.
Decks ridiculously overpriced in Aus + no warranty since its all third party sellers
Playing Lunacid. Seems kinda shitty and boring. Got to Catacombs and I have yet to see any major gameplay surprises. Is there more to this game?
I would refund it personally
3.5 hours in unfortunately
if you don't refund often valve will probably still refund it if you ask
lol hell no. if you're even a milisecond over the 3 hour mark they will deny your refund. I tried refunding cyberpunk and they denied me when i had 3.1 hours of gameplay. i mentioned how 2 hours of those was me fricking with graphics settings because of how broken the game was on release and they didn't give a shit.
steamies really insecure as frick huh?
Wife bought one of these useless things and never uses it. I tried it out for a bit. Have no use for it. I'm shocked there are anons here claiming that they actually play games.
it's a novelty item for most adults for sure.
i would have loved it when i was 12 and the tv was always hogged though.
you should sell it. you can probably flip it for a good price.
it's fine. i like using it on train rides.
bought it to support valve/linux mostly.
how can you guys play cyberpunk on this thing? can't read any of the text. fortunately my pc can handle it just fine.
I fricking hate that Valve had that stupid wait list for all of 2022 and then released the OLED a year later. Like I didn't even have a chance to get to own the original for more than a year. Fricking israelites
o7
OLED will probably go on sale when Valve does their next big sale.
>posting outdated shit
this is streamed btw
Ah, figured as much.
Thanks
streaming doesn't get that kind of power utilization, cope troony
Where do you get your

nsw2u
thanks m8
google nsw2u
google
archive.org for 6th gen and earlier
nxbrew or nsw2u. be sure to use a VPN.
>Use a VPN
LOL
my ISP blacklisted nintendo rom sites like nxbrew and nsw2u and i think its because i accidentally seeded TOTK nsp file for a week when it was leaked. that is why i use vpn.
you don't need a VPN for direct downloads since (a) HTTPS exists (b) nobody goes after people downloading because it's a major pain in the ass to prove; uploading is a different beast entirely
>stalls when kirby does anything
lol
your shitposting doesn't work when you can see the frametime

Just get a switch, it won't shit itself playing switch games
Holy mother of sunk cost fallacy

Emulates fine bro what's your problem

THEY PAID A $700 TO STEAL GAMES FROM A 7 YO CONSOLE LMAO ABSOLUTE STATE OF DECKERS
I bought a steam deck to play video games. Sometimes that includes emulating nintendo games. Seethe about it.
I paid $1k to steal games from the 90s and 00s on a desk too, worth every cent.
Ordered it two days ago, expecting it Wednesday.
At the moment not much, because there really isn't anything I want to run on my deck at the moment. Sister wound up getting me an OLED for Christmas... though I was never interested in ever having one for the reasons mentioned above, but I guess it's nice having two portable versions of Monster Hunter Rise and Dragon's Dogma now.
I'm playing Rabi-Ribi, shit's great.
can you watch anime on the steam deck
can you play warcraft 3 well on it without per riff re als
Yeah you can watch stuff on it if you want. Also yes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DFN7MQQqpE
>can you
>can you
no, sadly
>can you use a PC like a PC
Yes
I wanted to get the OLED Deck but I kinda already played everything I'm interested in so I'll just wait for Switch 2 since there won't be an emulator for it for quite a while.
look how fast the vegans start shilling their degenerate repositories
When you enter sleep mode, does your game quit or can you just resume immediately on wake (like switch)?
the latter
It has suspend and resume. You come back right where you left off.
no, often it crashes or breaks audio or glitches on wake
the audio thing was fixed last year, never had any other glitches besides that one and it doesn't exist anymore
this is especially true in emulators like yuzu or ryuujinx
very awkward experience
why are you like this?
No one to spend NYE with.
deck derangement syndrome isn't just a meme you know.
Reddit is down the hallway
more like reddit is literally (You)
Anon the brick is reddit's baby, you should try reddit youd love it and hopefully never come back
i’ve played diablo 4 on the deck 24 hours in the last three days. send help.
must be a zoomer
oldgays i know would rather play the slop that is d3 than get anywhere near d4
not a zoomer
d3 sucks dick 4 is based
27”
play better games m8
>steam version
Damn, was gonna ask how well it worked through the blizzard launcher. Kinda wanted to try D2R on the 'eck.
not that anon but the blizzard launcher version worked well for me
wow how tiny is that screen mate 40cm or something?
i only play pokemon showdown on it.
That the asshomosexuals with massive stutters on the Switch? Incredible what Ninteᥒd𐐬 allows these days.
He's talking about the competitive simulator you moronic furgin.
But I'd know that if I were.
>
only point to own a deck is to emulate switch games and it can't even do that well (splatoon 3, bayo 3... the list goes on)
just modchip a switch OLED and wait until switch 2 drops this year and moggs everything for the next decade
>anti-deck schizoposting on a NYE
couldn't be any more pathetic
for someone who has a v2 switch with like 20 games but a massive steam backlog would getting the $350 model be good enough? probably going to sell the switch
Most of my catalog is indieshit and VNs
the oled version has so many improvements it would be a better idea to go for the cheapest version of that
is there a Zen3 model coming any time soon? if so I can wait for that
the reason I'm dropping the switch is because switch2 probably won't have backcompat. it has literally never left the dock since I got it since all the games I want to play are better on a big screen with a pro controller. the low resolution really gets to me after coming from my gaming PC too. but most of the games I play on PC would play fine on the deck
probably going to get the OLED since it has 90hz, I didn't realize that when comparing. how hard is it to upgrade the 2230 ssd? I have a 1TB I'd like to throw in there
>switch 2 probably won't have backcompat.
it most definitely will dude. idk why you think nintendo would ever do decide to not have back compatibility.
They just did.
I don't want to have to buy games twice my guy, how many Wii U discs work on the Switch?
It definitely won't. There aren't many companies in the world which hate their customers as much as Nintendo. It's right up there with Apple, Tesla and Ferrari.
>is there a Zen3 model coming any time soon?
probably zen4 in 2025 or 2026 but it's anyone's guess. oled is definitely a better choice than lcd at this point for any non-deck owner
>how hard is it to upgrade the 2230 ssd?
it's like 9 screws and right in the back
i think the general consensus is to get the OLED model if you don't own a deck already. also why not keep the switch? unless you are strapped for cash i don't see any reason to sell it unless you still play switch games.
Only get the LCD version if you don't care about colors and don't play games that drain the battery like a motherfricker. In any other case the OLED is a better choice.
I mean it depends on what games you're playing. I wouldn't even bother with a Deck unless you *really* want the portability. But if you're just playing old games then yeah the lower end model is fine. Deck already struggles for newer games so you need a Rog Ally or something if you want to play them comfortably.
I'd like to emulate Dark Cloud 1/ 2 or Rogue Galaxy. How are PS2 emulators on the deck?
works fine, deck is honestly overkill if you just want PS2 emulation
i'm curious about this too. is PS2 emulation good or not on the deck? I've seen some cherrypicked gameplay webms but that still doesn't convince me.
bad see
Ahhh, okay I figured as much.
Thanks. Leaving the thread now, Happy New Years.
it works great, I went through a PS2 phase on the deck this year. armored core 2, ff10, ratchet and clank 3 and deadlocked, silent hill 2 and 3 all worked fine with 60fps at double resolution. there are probably a couple more that I don't remember.
anyone giving you unspecific negative answers is being dishonest. there may be specific games that don't work well, but that's probably an issue with the emulator itself rather than the deck.
we lost another one emusisters...
>IP count has not went up in the past 30 minutes
I've been in this thread for a while and it's nothing but you samegayging repeatedly
>in the last 30 minutes

Thinking about getting an oled deck. Will I be making a mistake if I don't get the docking station?
>Will I be making a mistake if I don't get the docking station?
No. if you have a PC there isn't really much reason to dock it. And you can use any cheapo usb c hub for $15 bucks. Only accessory I bought was an sd card.
>Only accessory I bought was an sd card
This. Buy a large MicroSD. As soon as you need a second MicroSD, invest in one of those $10 microSD holders on Etsy that can be affixed to the inside of the case to hold a bunch of them.
>And you can use any cheapo usb c hub for $15 bucks.
good to know, thanks anon
What kind of stupid question is that? Do you plan to use it docked? Get a dock, otherwise don't.
I thought it was required to connect peripherals to it and I'm wondering if installing programs or whatever would be a hassle without external monitor + m&k
I've used a bluetooth keyboard to set some things up and transfer files. Never needed a dock to do any of that stuff.
I can think of zero reason to get the docking station.
It's powerful enough to be a complete desktop replacement for web browsing and office work.
That seems really moronic. I guess you do you. I would get an actual PC (why do you not already have an actual PC?) and use my Deck for games like it’s intended but, yeah, if you want it to be a super low-performance desktop machine, the dock is useful.
What do you need your PC for that's intensive enough to warrant a desktop? Obviously some people do, but lots of us don't need anything more advanced than a browser for Ganker and Word/Excel for our jobs. It's the same idea as a laptop with a dock, except they're set up for working on the go rather than gaming on the go.
Depends how you want to use it. Deck isn't great at running modern games at above 720-800p so blown up on a TV it won't look amazing. If you want to have it in your living room as an emulation device on a TV or monitor while your PC is in another room it works quite well
if you need a docking station for your oled deck then you should've built a pc before buying the deck.
I think it's a good idea to get a cheap usbc hub on amazon to plug in a kbm or monitor or whatever if you intend to tinker with it. Makes it a lot easier. I think I got some shitty anker one for 40 bux but you can probably go cheaper.
Random question but does the JSAUX Deck dock work on the ROG Ally?
many people buy this dock
good build
I like the look but I've never heard of GuliKit and don't want to get CHINKED
>i like the look
yes very good look
>blocks exhaust and heat spot
Garbo.
very nice, i will ask my wife
i'm so tired of these chink companies trying to sell us nostalgia for shit that really shouldn't have nostalgia applied to it
how much cheaper could that dock have been if it were just a normal black box
you aren't buying their products anyway, why care

Rate my shittaste I regret playing Potionomics.
>the surge
yep, that's pretty bad
Lmao frick off. 1 was good, 2 is better in terms of gameplay, but the story sucks ass, unfortunately.
It clearly says 36 games, the replay only shows 4 most playable (although I'm pretty sure I've spent a lot of time playing Ring of Pain).
>didn't even play more than 4 games on deck in the entire year
secondary/10
>Offline playtime not included
Okay so a ton of it
Peglin worth picking up?
anon, you're asking a redditor who unironically has vampire survivors and brotato in their top 5 of the year
obviously it's shit
I don't know these games, I just want more Peggle.
Its a lot of fun. I think its on sale right now too. I'd say give it a try. Especially if you like peggle.
Like I said it does not include offline use. Thats why it thinks playing Brotato like twice means its in my top 5 most played of the year. Im playing it while not online most of the time.
I hate that it doesn't include emulation or non-steam games. My playtime % and games would be radically higher if it did.
that'd be a really nice feature tbh
I wish it would, but more than that I wish I could use a personal storage allocation to force games to use Steam Cloud. Many games (not just emulated ones) I would play on deck if my saves synced.
just a few more posts and we can sink this shitslopped forced meme of a thread lads
You're in your late thirties.
flopped. shitted. sadly.
>playing Trials of Mana

nothing because Citra/Emudeck aren't working and detecting 3DS games on new SD card, old one works just fine. I did a fresh start with Emudeck for the SD card and reinstalled citra a dozen of times, it still doesn't work.
Are you sure you have it pointing to the correct place for the roms?
all the other emulators work fine
only citra is broken
i've read that it maybe has to do with how you can have custom sd card names now so it's >media>sdcard>something>emulation instead of >media>wakoname1>emulation like the old card but i absolutely don't feel like trying to fix that because it'll bork everything and i can just annoyingly swap around sd cards
Are you using the forwarder things or just opening the citra emulator itself?
>the forwarder things
the what?
i've tried the emulator on desktop mode and the icons in steam both error. it's weird because i've changed the path of a game to the new directory scheme and it still errors. i think it's some citra path that's broken but i don't know how to fix that since uninstalling it didn't fix it. Steam rom manager also error trying to parse only citra
What error does steam rom manager give? By forwarders I meant the things steam rom manager makes.
>Screenshot from different video
>Shows docked not handheld on switch
ok
>What error does steam rom manager give?
it just gives a generic "1 user configuration(s) was/were skipped (invalid)"
citra error just says it crashed
citra itself shows the roms

I love playing video games on my Valve Steam Deck.
I'm playing Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition for the third time, and playing it on Deck with a soundtrack replacement mod ("Retro Music Mod" on Nexus) and the higher quality models mods ("Project Rebuild") is such a great way to replay this game.
The demo for this is like 10 hours long and let's you transfer your save to the full version btw, so if anyone is interested in trying out Dragon Quest, this is a great way to dip you toes in
