Trusts existing means its less likely that the devs force players into old outdated content through roulettes and events in order to keep new players fed. That improves everyones experience.
It's good that XIV isn't throwing its old content away like WoW or other MMOs are doing it but constantly forcing people into fricking ARR and HW just to keep the noobs entertaining doesn't make it more fun.
Them giving players the option to use bots for those dungeons just makes it easier for people to play the actual multiplayer content. There are no plans to add trusts/bots to more raids and trials.

tank mitigation and self sustain is so powerful right now that some of the hardest content has been cleared without healers
some tanks also straight up just have single target and aoe healing abilities
healers in general are in the worst spot they have ever been in the game's history both in terms of gameplay as well as their role in the party dynamic
in story content, the only skill expression is how low you're willing to see your party's health bars dip before stopping your own dps to heal them.
in raids it's basically the same thing but you have a cohealer who may or may not be doing their job. in the super high difficulty content everything just clicks and it's suddenly a more fun job to play. still fricking garbage overall though, and only slightly better than tanks who have a baby job across the whole spectrum of content.
Healer is the most miserable thing to play in this game
You're legit stuck pressing 1 button to do a tiny bit of damage for 80% of all boss fights, especially for the hardest ones

Melee healer doesn't mean you punch the person you're healing. In XI DNC just casts healing spells with TP as a resource so it builds by hitting the enemy. It also gives the party a drain enchantment on their melee attacks.
It's a grim situation where you only actually have to engage with your role in a meaningful way when people frick up. They put almost no pressure on healers normally.
I'm thinking of using a fanta to change back to Roe since I'm starting to miss hats after four years on top of enjoying how silly it was to be a sea wolf crammed into tiny mounts and such.
Speaking of actual content, can someone solo criterion dungeons? My FC already has a group setup to run them but I didn't make the pick and really want that pixie mount, so I'm just curious what to do.
variant dungeons are braindead to solo on a tank job and still pretty easy to solo as a dps class, you might die to a couple of mechanics first time through if you go in blind though.
the pixie mount is the variant reward, not the criterion one
and variant is very easy to solo. Just a bit slow as a Tank, and as a DPS you might die a few times

What if all jobs had a basic class version but could do cross class? Mix and match, do what you want. But if you want a safe and easy way to play you can combine the two classes into a job. A Ronin with an Archer will make a Samurai or a Knight and Thaumaturge will make a Dark Knight.
Do you think it will work? What classes and sub classes would you play?
Well the original concept for jobs was that classes would be for solo play allowing you to crossclass pretty much anything, and jobs were party-oriented by turning you into a specialist that could only crossclass certain other abilities. Paladin was a combo of Gladiator and Conjurer, for example. But that was 1.0, when ARR launched they had already started leaning more into the jobs being straight upgrades. Classes did still have more crossclass skill freedom but it didn't outweigh the stat benefits and job-specific abilities except for Marauder/Warrior because launch Warrior was fricking useless.
Their balance battle mainly comes from giving jobs a niche without also making them an objectively best or worst option and without making them turbo powerful related to another one, the struggle mainly comes from balancing party support with personal damage and the devs also being aware that DPS Is King in this game. Crowd control, for exanple, will probably never be useful because there is no circumstance where burning a mob or crowd of mobs down is an objectively worse choice than spending time stunning, paralyzing or debuffing them. On the extreme end Blue Mage can Deep Freeze enemies for long enough that they die before they can move again, but that's Blue Mage which doesn't get to play with the others so that it can have tools like that.

Nobody has ever liked that. Overworld and MSQ are not meant to be hard in this game. It's also irrelevant if you're at level cap, unless you implement a Level Down function, which will be a great way to get a bomb delivered to your office.

You need the Ream Reborn starter and the Endwalker expansion for the full game.
Each expansion includes all previous expansions with it so you only ever need to buy the last version if you are just starting out.
Be aware that once you make an account a 'full' one there is no going back to the free trial version on it.

It doesn't help that XIV's storytelling is exhausting. It just dumps dry text on you that repeats itself constantly and a lot of it doesn't matter at all in the long run. The little bit of gameplay between text dumps being shit doesn't help either.
Some will try to argue that because this is a FF game constant text dumps with little gameplay is the norm but this isn't true if you've actually played the older games. This is a CBU3 problem.

I was asked by SE to give my thoughts on FF14 and FF16 and that was my biggest complaint, the pacing. The games are good, I really enjoyed them but the god awful text dumps, the slow pacing when the story is ramping up that slows it right down again to a snails crawl actively hurts the games.
There is an argument for it in 14 because it's an mmo and you need to spread out the story, but in 16 it's absolutely inexcusable.
The writers are autists who don't understand the meaning of "show don't tell" and "brevity". They're the type of writers to hyperfocus on a rock and then spend 10 pages going over in detail every fricking aspect of that rock and the lore behind it. I am convinced CBU3 writing team lacks an editor. Like at least 50% of the MSQ could be removed and not only would nothing of value would be lost but it would actually improve the pacing of the story.
Like go watch your average popular anime than sit through FFXIV's MSQ and you will feel the excruciating pacing of this game's story in comparison. Like it's just so fricking SLOW and tedius and never gets to the fricking point. Scenes just never end, characters repeat themselves over and over as you said.
Another problem is the cinematography is dogshit, 90% of cutscenes are just a boring horizontal perspective of characters standing in a circle talking at eachother /emoting. CBU3 thinks only "important" cutscenes deserve any actual effort which means the vast majority of cutscenes are dull as frick visually. Not to mention the lack of voice acting.
Like I cannot imagine almost anyone sitting down and playing the MSQ and not just quitting by the time they reach Praetorium. It's just so fricking boring.
It could also be a localization problem. In the JP script the characters talk a lot more normally so the padded dialogue in the english script could just be Koji/Kate making everything more verbose to make the dialogue feel more fantastical.
Because this is what the players want. Or atleast what the majority expects.
I hope them not adding any more races after femhroths means more customization options for the exisitng races cause 4-5 faces for a game that is all about dressing up is very very poor

Sure - One or two new weapons are something you can push out especially with the still increasing sub revenue. But even there you'll hit a limit at some point. That and the inventory system is still fricked. We literally only got more item slots the last time because they deleted the belts in return. What comes next? Only one ring slot?
Apparently I've been playing it since Apr 2012, and honestly it's always been kind of lame. I really wish that they had implemented a working cross-class or dual class feature instead of scrapping the idea altogether. It could have given some variety and individuality to your character.

The game peaked during 4.X. I didn't appreciate it at the time because I was mad about dumb shit like Diadem 1 giving way to Diadem 2, DRK going way overboard with DA spam, and them completely giving up on the idea of Raids and Trials being different from a gameplay perspective. Also the 4.0 MSQ still sucks ass. Still, it had a lot going for it and I would pay good money to get back Diadem 2 at this point. 6.X sucks so fricking much and the fans deserve every bad thing they get for eating it up. I hope the DRG and AST reworks are boring as shit

They were actually for ultimates, the short ranges had no effect positively or negatively on content up until DSR and TOP but it was a real issue for the hardest content in the game where you literally couldn't get close enough to heal or buff.

Is TOP the only ultimate that CBU3 didn't test at all? Everything about it feels amateurish, like if someone who only watched others clear ults tried to make one. I know it was the TEA guy, which is even more baffling. The tight DPS checks felt like they came from a lack of balance rather than demanding players perform at a peak level.

The only odd thing about it was the DPS checks, for a game that prides itself on keeping jobs relatively even the fight was tuned so tightly that even a 1% difference was noticeable. It did force them to make raidwides have a longer range but it's something people have complained about for a while as an annoyance, and now in TOP it actually mattered.
I was thinking about playing this again, I stopped playing at when heavensward expansion came out almost a decade ago and I stopped because I thought all the jobs were being made less unique and having similar playstyles cause they can't be bothered to balance content with that many jobs. Is this still the case?
I guess those big crying speeches about how they had been defeated and pushed off the thread and everyone should feel bad for bullying them were just bullshit so people would get off their case after their whole raiding discord operation got leaked?

The problem with content in this game isn't the lack of rewards, it's that the combat is unfun so nobody enjoys replaying anything because that means needlessly subjecting themselves to this game's awful combat system. Everyone just wants to finish the content and then go back to something like afking in Limsa. Anything but any form of combat-related content. A good game is replayable because it's fun and non-repetetive. This game is not and has never been this and likely never will because CBU3 views combat in their games as a formality, a minor distraction fro matching poorly animated cutscenes with generic trope-laden JRPG writing.

Theres plenty of busted crowd CC you could chain with LB spam, thats always going to be the meta of frontlines even if these two didn't exist.
If anything they need to make purify more functional and give you more agency to escape it rather than chase the meta around.
Its always going to be some form of big CC, big damage move.

You can fairly easily. The biggest issue with DRK is that the draw in is not able to be mitigated, this alone causes a bunch of balance problems but to make matters worse people form premades and abuse this fact by stacking DRKs.

Guard literally negates the draw-in. If you're getting multi-succ'd and there isn't a WAR/DNC/RPR Guard-breaking, then it's entirely on you.

First, don't put yourself in a situation where you're getting ambushed/surrounded. Situational awareness is key to doing well and not dying.
Second, after the initial burst, there's usually frick-all damage going out so you can moonwalk out. As soon as you get succ'd you Guard and ride the Guard duration out by moving away from the ass-frick zone. Besides, Succ is easily negated by one simple trick (that isn't Guard): spread out. If you're a ranged and you're all clumped up together with a bunch of other people, that's a skill issue. If you're that bothered by the succ n' frick, don't put yourself in a chokepoint with a bunch of other squishy jobs.

The other point is that the only way you are guarding a DRK is if you pre pop it, sure if you are super attentive you can do that but it's not like you are putting a lot of ground between you and the washing machine, even once your guard wears off, manual or timed, you are still in the danger zone.

can't seem to understand is that it's not just one DRK, it's a situation where premades with randoms added in can have 3-5 DRKs diving in, your chances of survival are almost 0 no matter how you play it. People aren't crying about a single player, it's how this one job can be stacked to the point where no counterplay is available and all enjoyment is removed from the match.

Oh yeah for sure, it's very easy to fix but they don't want to put even a second of effort into it. They partially caused this by slapping an extra 30% DR on the mode early on when people complained about SMN.

Do you do leveling roulette every day? If not then you aren't interacting with people trusts are designed for anyway so who cares?

Trusts existing means its less likely that the devs force players into old outdated content through roulettes and events in order to keep new players fed. That improves everyones experience.
It's good that XIV isn't throwing its old content away like WoW or other MMOs are doing it but constantly forcing people into fricking ARR and HW just to keep the noobs entertaining doesn't make it more fun.
Them giving players the option to use bots for those dungeons just makes it easier for people to play the actual multiplayer content. There are no plans to add trusts/bots to more raids and trials.

Does healers bring anything in this game or is it the same boring garbage class that all MMOs are stuck with but the one you're forced to play to clear raids?

tank mitigation and self sustain is so powerful right now that some of the hardest content has been cleared without healers
some tanks also straight up just have single target and aoe healing abilities
healers in general are in the worst spot they have ever been in the game's history both in terms of gameplay as well as their role in the party dynamic
in story content, the only skill expression is how low you're willing to see your party's health bars dip before stopping your own dps to heal them.
in raids it's basically the same thing but you have a cohealer who may or may not be doing their job. in the super high difficulty content everything just clicks and it's suddenly a more fun job to play. still fricking garbage overall though, and only slightly better than tanks who have a baby job across the whole spectrum of content.
it sucks but lets be real here, if healing even needs a bit of thinking in midcore content, casuals wont be touching it
Healer is the most miserable thing to play in this game
You're legit stuck pressing 1 button to do a tiny bit of damage for 80% of all boss fights, especially for the hardest ones

And the saddest thing about it is that that's a good thing because it's so fricking clunky and awful to use
Melee healer doesn't mean you punch the person you're healing. In XI DNC just casts healing spells with TP as a resource so it builds by hitting the enemy. It also gives the party a drain enchantment on their melee attacks.
It's a grim situation where you only actually have to engage with your role in a meaningful way when people frick up. They put almost no pressure on healers normally.
I'm thinking of using a fanta to change back to Roe since I'm starting to miss hats after four years on top of enjoying how silly it was to be a sea wolf crammed into tiny mounts and such.
Speaking of actual content, can someone solo criterion dungeons? My FC already has a group setup to run them but I didn't make the pick and really want that pixie mount, so I'm just curious what to do.
variant dungeons are braindead to solo on a tank job and still pretty easy to solo as a dps class, you might die to a couple of mechanics first time through if you go in blind though.
You can solo variants but not criterions. Criterions are mini savage fights. The fairy seems to be the variant reward so you'll be fine.

and variant is very easy to solo. Just a bit slow as a Tank, and as a DPS you might die a few times

What if all jobs had a basic class version but could do cross class? Mix and match, do what you want. But if you want a safe and easy way to play you can combine the two classes into a job. A Ronin with an Archer will make a Samurai or a Knight and Thaumaturge will make a Dark Knight.

Well the original concept for jobs was that classes would be for solo play allowing you to crossclass pretty much anything, and jobs were party-oriented by turning you into a specialist that could only crossclass certain other abilities. Paladin was a combo of Gladiator and Conjurer, for example. But that was 1.0, when ARR launched they had already started leaning more into the jobs being straight upgrades. Classes did still have more crossclass skill freedom but it didn't outweigh the stat benefits and job-specific abilities except for Marauder/Warrior because launch Warrior was fricking useless.
I guess that's where their eternal battle with balance came from.
Their balance battle mainly comes from giving jobs a niche without also making them an objectively best or worst option and without making them turbo powerful related to another one, the struggle mainly comes from balancing party support with personal damage and the devs also being aware that DPS Is King in this game. Crowd control, for exanple, will probably never be useful because there is no circumstance where burning a mob or crowd of mobs down is an objectively worse choice than spending time stunning, paralyzing or debuffing them. On the extreme end Blue Mage can Deep Freeze enemies for long enough that they die before they can move again, but that's Blue Mage which doesn't get to play with the others so that it can have tools like that.
Why not add exp loss on death? There are currently no reprecussions on death other than time wasted.

Nobody has ever liked that. Overworld and MSQ are not meant to be hard in this game. It's also irrelevant if you're at level cap, unless you implement a Level Down function, which will be a great way to get a bomb delivered to your office.

You need the Ream Reborn starter and the Endwalker expansion for the full game.

It doesn't help that XIV's storytelling is exhausting. It just dumps dry text on you that repeats itself constantly and a lot of it doesn't matter at all in the long run. The little bit of gameplay between text dumps being shit doesn't help either.
Some will try to argue that because this is a FF game constant text dumps with little gameplay is the norm but this isn't true if you've actually played the older games. This is a CBU3 problem.

I was asked by SE to give my thoughts on FF14 and FF16 and that was my biggest complaint, the pacing. The games are good, I really enjoyed them but the god awful text dumps, the slow pacing when the story is ramping up that slows it right down again to a snails crawl actively hurts the games.
There is an argument for it in 14 because it's an mmo and you need to spread out the story, but in 16 it's absolutely inexcusable.
The writers are autists who don't understand the meaning of "show don't tell" and "brevity". They're the type of writers to hyperfocus on a rock and then spend 10 pages going over in detail every fricking aspect of that rock and the lore behind it. I am convinced CBU3 writing team lacks an editor. Like at least 50% of the MSQ could be removed and not only would nothing of value would be lost but it would actually improve the pacing of the story.
Like go watch your average popular anime than sit through FFXIV's MSQ and you will feel the excruciating pacing of this game's story in comparison. Like it's just so fricking SLOW and tedius and never gets to the fricking point. Scenes just never end, characters repeat themselves over and over as you said.
Another problem is the cinematography is dogshit, 90% of cutscenes are just a boring horizontal perspective of characters standing in a circle talking at eachother /emoting. CBU3 thinks only "important" cutscenes deserve any actual effort which means the vast majority of cutscenes are dull as frick visually. Not to mention the lack of voice acting.
Like I cannot imagine almost anyone sitting down and playing the MSQ and not just quitting by the time they reach Praetorium. It's just so fricking boring.

It could also be a localization problem. In the JP script the characters talk a lot more normally so the padded dialogue in the english script could just be Koji/Kate making everything more verbose to make the dialogue feel more fantastical.

I didn't appreciate it at the time because I was mad about dumb shit like Diadem 1 giving way to Diadem 2, DRK going way overboard with DA spam, and them completely giving up on the idea of Raids and Trials being different from a gameplay perspective. Also the 4.0 MSQ still sucks ass. Still, it had a lot going for it and I would pay good money to get back Diadem 2 at this point. 6.X sucks so fricking much and the fans deserve every bad thing they get for eating it up. Is TOP the only ultimate that CBU3 didn't test at all? Everything about it feels amateurish, like if someone who only watched others clear ults tried to make one. I know it was the TEA guy, which is even more baffling. The tight DPS checks felt like they came from a lack of balance rather than demanding players perform at a peak level.
The only odd thing about it was the DPS checks, for a game that prides itself on keeping jobs relatively even the fight was tuned so tightly that even a 1% difference was noticeable. It did force them to make raidwides have a longer range but it's something people have complained about for a while as an annoyance, and now in TOP it actually mattered.

The problem with content in this game isn't the lack of rewards, it's that the combat is unfun so nobody enjoys replaying anything because that means needlessly subjecting themselves to this game's awful combat system. Theres plenty of busted crowd CC you could chain with LB spam, thats always going to be the meta of frontlines even if these two didn't exist.
If anything they need to make purify more functional and give you more agency to escape it rather than chase the meta around.

Guard literally negates the draw-in. If you're getting multi-succ'd and there isn't a WAR/DNC/RPR Guard-breaking, then it's entirely on you.

First, don't put yourself in a situation where you're getting ambushed/surrounded. Situational awareness is key to doing well and not dying.
Second, after the initial burst, there's usually frick-all damage going out so you can moonwalk out. As soon as you get succ'd you Guard and ride the Guard duration out by moving away from the ass-frick zone. Besides, Succ is easily negated by one simple trick (that isn't Guard): spread out. If you're a ranged and you're all clumped up together with a bunch of other people, that's a skill issue. If you're that bothered by the succ n' frick, don't put yourself in a chokepoint with a bunch of other squishy jobs.

The other point is that the only way you are guarding a DRK is if you pre pop it, sure if you are super attentive you can do that but it's not like you are putting a lot of ground between you and the washing machine, even once your guard wears off, manual or timed, you are still in the danger zone.

can't seem to understand is that it's not just one DRK, it's a situation where premades with randoms added in can have 3-5 DRKs diving in, your chances of survival are almost 0 no matter how you play it. People aren't crying about a single player, it's how this one job can be stacked to the point where no counterplay is available and all enjoyment is removed from the match.

Oh yeah for sure, it's very easy to fix but they don't want to put even a second of effort into it. They partially caused this by slapping an extra 30% DR on the mode early on when people complained about SMN.

Criterion normal is already on par with mid to late savage floors, it's fun but honestly too hard to get people into it.
People wanted harder dungeons but SE thought that meant they wanted wiener and ball torture.. All people wanted was something between normal and savage difficulty.
and this is why I'm starting to think Yoshida or someone else high up is absolutely obsessed with hardcore raid content and then dumbed all the classes down to raise winrates and try to corral newbies into hardcore to justify tripling down on it
what is there to discuss, I enjoyed 1.0 sort of, I got arr on release took 2 weeks off work and grinded the hell out of it, played through til the end of heavensward and got sick of it, I like the throwbacks to old bosses and games, but the entire community is full of weird trannies playing as cat girls or lalas
