They released ar tonelico 2 with a game breaking bug that prevents progression that wasn't in the original japanese release. And this was a PS2 game, so every copy is stuck with that bug forever.

They been frickin up for ages. More so after they got the Ys/falcom contracts or whatever.
Yes, it's almost obligatory to start with the first game here since it sets the standards so unbelievably high for the franchise that nothing ever manages to reach its peak again. Make sure you get the Netherworld Content Pack mod so you can get extra characters that aren't available otherwise.

it had the weakest gameplay in the series up until 6 existed
Yeah but the gameplay is various shades of shit in every entry. I'm playing for the story and the characters (also the music) which is by far the best in D1.
Wrong. D1's gameplay is truly great because it's just pure grindan. There aren't a gorillion systems in place to cut down or trivialize it (haven't played D6 but D5 is a solid example of this. I mean, fricking innocent farms?), you can actually feel your own growth. Disgaea 2 is also great because it's just an expansion to D1, gameplay-wise, with the minimal added bullshit of pirate maps.
has the best (aka not just phoned in) storyline easy, in the era where the non-disgaea NIS games were meant for the good stories (mostly) aka phantom brave / soul nomad. Very well balanced amount of goofiness and character building that you'll miss in the remainder of the disgaea games (imo disgaea was for srpg system tuning and the non disgaea games from nis were for the story / unorthodox srpg systems)
also the original PS2 disgaea games for some reason just had more OOMPH to their frickin explosions and shit, everything after d1 / 2 didn't have the same sound quality really sending home the idea that you dropped a huge explosion on shit.
>is this a good port and a good way to try out this series?
Yes and yes.
You may like the Switch version better since it has arguably better sprites, but if you don't like them yourself then it's a pointless worry.
Yes but do the world a favour and pirate it. NISA deserves bankruptcy.
what did nisa do?

Did they fix the PAL version?

They increased all their price on steam. Including decade old games.
you been living under a rock bro?
they have extreme contempt for the people that buy these games

Yeah it's fun and a great place to start. I prefer D4, but to each their own.
Play his games instead.
It's fun, lets you use the original soulful graphics and you get TF2 hats from it.
It's the best Disgaea plot-wise, you can play it on PS2 emulator.
Don't buy it anon, it makes autism gas!
rean?
