It goes back to more of 5's mechanics with some additions from 6 like the juice bar instead of extracts. Item World has also been changed again and is much shorter but you can now reincarnate the items which can lead to things like shoes giving you access to sword skills for a character that hasn't trained in them yet.

I'm currently playing 6 and upgraded a scroll to level25 in the item world at one point, but now every seller in the item world keeps selling me spell scrolls at level 25 and inflating the price for no reason.

I'm a huge Desco fan but also she's just a fun unit. She can very easily inflate her stats in different ways and has oppressive evilities, good ranged skills, very good natural stats.
Purely from a numbers perspective she's one of the best units in every game.

You can capture 99 asagis at once each with metallia each run, there's 99 on the map plus the 1 boss asagi

For non-generics, you need to beat Carnage 15 to unlock all the Extra Color 2 options at once

Not remotely true, most of the characters are pretty good honestly. Artina is good, she's just not an op unit so nobody cares that much. Seraphina is also relatively decent, but again not op. Desco is great, and everyone uses her every game because she's always one of the best magichange weapons you can use due to evilities. Usalia is just as good and as good a character. Rozalin is godlike design, one of the few characters to get real alternate sprites for her overlord transformation and not just a size increase, but gun users consistently do not get used in disgaea games. Sicily is great as a character, her design just isn't that stand out.
3 is the one with the worst characters probably.
And nobody uses etna and flonne either because their evilities consistently suck butthole and they get basically no lines when they're dlc characters anyway, which is a shame.

I got up to chapter 8 doing it with a Cleric for field testing and seeing how long it was going to take to unlock other generics. Some of those fights like the Higan one were down to the wire. I think it could have turned out better though if I invested on those growth evilites but again I was mostly rushing through at the time.

Yes, this is fine. This is infact how anything works in most of the disgaea games if you're trying to do it much earlier than you should.
Bringing out a bunch of support units with evilities that quadruple your damage and clear = perfectly fine.
The people who want to bring out 1 unit and use 1 move to clear the stage are clowns for complaining when it doesn't work because to do that you already have to have done half your grinding and vastly overpower the stage, at which point you don't need to be farming it anymore anyway.

I want 2D sprites, on-field attack animations, and tenpei sato music back. 6 and 7 are kind of okay-ish but they're still such a step down from the previous games.
Comfortably the worst modern Disgaea thanks mostly to the move to 3D (which not only meant the visual change, but also resulted in a lot less classes, more limited skills etc.) and the new gimmick was just auto-play effectively (albeit with a bit of unique creation elements to it),
If you've played all the others and really want more, it's fine. It's not unplayable garbage. But there's no reason to go for it over any other modern release of a Disgaea game.

The music in 7 is a huge downgrade too and then attack animations still just pale in comparison to how they used to make them. The core Disgaea game-play is still in 6/7 so they're still kind of enjoyable but they just feel so sterile.
I can't actually find it myself anymore, just remember it existing cause the developer was a real turbo autist.
NISA fricked up with the Disgaea 5 demo on PC since it was the full game with some blockers in place. The blockers were removed within a couple hours and people had the full game for free. NISA responded by pulling the demo and delaying the release of 5 on PC by something like 6 months.
Meanwhile the Disgaea 5 modders got to work on the cracked version of 5 releasing a bunch of stuff, one of which being Rakshasa for 5. When the "real" game released the modder just said "Frick you, I'm not updating my mod for the version people will actually be playing from now on." And just like that it's lost to time.
D5 had very fun gameplay in my opinion, and I appreciated the whole Overload system further differentiating the characters.

It's probably gonna take a couple more games before they get their footing with the 3D models. I hope they retouch them in the future, because Laharl's is really bad and for some reason Laharl-chan has more animation and better posing despite having the exact same attacks. Laharl was probably one of the first models made as a proof of concept, or at least that's my explanation for him sucking ass.
They're a harder difficulty choice, like an all-prinny run-through. The game respects you enough to offer monsters, but really they're there to be enemies.
Not as good as the original trio in my opinion, but I loved him. He has a great balance of goofiness and seriousness, and his devotion to promises and the honor of demons was charming.
He's definitely at least top 3 if not #1.
Unfortunately D4 is tainted by Fuka being 100% deadset on not being dead and never learning from her ways, Shartina being quite possibly the single worst character in the entire series, and Axel being overused as a joke character yet underused as a main character.

Here, when it says "incident that shook the Three Worlds" they are referencing Disgaea 1, which involves a war between three factions: Humans, Celestia and the Netherworld. His story in 5 is about learning that demons are capable of loving and caring for each other, which eventually helps him forge a friendship with Krichevskoy and plan a way to connect Celestia and the Netherworld in 1.

When I first read the epilogue, I was under the impression that the Three Worlds thing would be about a future Disgaea game, not a previous one. Maybe it could still be, but that would mean there would be a time in the future where Flonne is not the archangel.

You can, but it'll take a few characters for you to do so.
A skill learns his chosen elemental magic + star magic as he levels.
You can learn magic from other units using the skill squad when you unlock squads, so just get another skull the can use the magic you want to learn.
Or you could learn all the elemental magic and then reincarnate to a different element. But that would be a pain in the ass and take a ton of time.
Protip: some monsters also learn magic, if you'd rather level them instead of skulls. Spirits learn fire, sea angels learn ice, and I think flora beasts learn wind?
Yes, generally by putting them into a skill squad with a leader who knows the skill you're trying to learn and using it a bunch

Modern jrpgs hardly exist anymore because moron companies all keep chasing action games instead using the ips. Persona 5, dq11, a bunch of indie games or lower budget things like octopath, and remakes of older jrpgs are the main options.

The last tiers of the gacha have swords and fists with the Weapon Skill 4 trait. Those weapons let the user use the 3x3s regardless of their skill level.
Unironically D1 should be a good place to start at least if you want to know how the story of this games is. Later games kinda just throw mechanics at you and you will probably enjoy them more later.

after you've softcapped your trap you wont use land decimator almost at all
i softcapped my trap, beat normal baal and quit last time i played. booted it up again the other day and played more, duped like 7 traps and beat carnage void with every unit in my main squad, now i just need to farm more elixirs to make a curry that lets everyone survive carnage baal, or continue unlocking more evility slots on more than half my squad that dont have them maxed, most are like 12 evility slots only got 4 at 20.
then its figure out a way to get revenge gauge maxed without re-farming revenge booster weapons i sold months ago and without sacrificing player stat up/enemy stat down evilities on my supports to fit tension booster and THEN try carnage baal and pray a squad attack kills him
then the games done unless i wanna - for no reason - level up the rank 40 weapons even though my dudes are already stat capped with 3x traps, so i'm considering buying d4+ whilst its on sale now

After I played D6 I was sad because they make good designs for the characters, slap one of the most boring personalities in most of them and repeat the same boss the entire game... I don't blame the anons that dropped the series after 6.

There's nothing wrong with other dimensions/Netherworlds/etc but they constantly just use it for whatever nonsense they're in the mood for. "Oh this is the hotspring Netherword" or "Oh this the sardine Netherword". They need to just tone it down and put more effort into the setting of the game. The first game mostly just the Netherworld, human world, and Celestia. It was simple but it was much more focused and had a lot more care put into it.

5 they jump around netherworlds because the story is literally about a dude conquering 1000 netherworlds, but yeah in general they should limit it. netherworlds aren't that small, they can have different environments within them, unless they want to have an ice level in a fire netherworld or some shit

every battle is 1 mastered class, and i just bought every upgrade to every squad and leveled up everyone to 9999.
i know this game is supposed to be disgaea 6 but fixed/toned down, but this is bananas.
also mastering a class gives you bonus stats, but they don't show on the "base stats" screen, just the normal stats screen that shows your entire number.
You have to reincarnate after mastering every class to really get the full benefit. But like you said, you effectively have infinite juice bar exp/mana at this point anyway.
At which level do healers get Giga Heal? I had one reach like level 60 and was waiting for it to be unlocked but decided to reincarnate for more base SP.
Sometimes spells are tied to class rank rather than level, like professors didn't get braveheart and magic boost until rank 2 level 40.
You should get it earlier than 60 in most disgaeas, so its probably class rank

usually you're meant to create one good accessory then dupe it a bunch of times when its done for a few characters if you want. it stopped being worth it to level weapons at the end a good few games back, but in the earlier games you did that too and then duped them
The 10 person deployment limit is a trap, you're always better off giving all the exp to a few choice units.
If it's the complete version there's a code to get the cheat shop and DLC units as the game starts. If you prefer specific units you might want to enter it.
This isn't quite true, you'll only use a few units for attacking, but you will absolutely use your entire deployment + more for magichanging and with support evilities for any remotely challenging content or content above you

Game any good? I enjoyed 5 for the dumb amount of overlapping systems but skipped 6.
It goes back to more of 5's mechanics with some additions from 6 like the juice bar instead of extracts. Item World has also been changed again and is much shorter but you can now reincarnate the items which can lead to things like shoes giving you access to sword skills for a character that hasn't trained in them yet.

I'm a huge Desco fan but also she's just a fun unit. She can very easily inflate her stats in different ways and has oppressive evilities, good ranged skills, very good natural stats.
Purely from a numbers perspective she's one of the best units in every game.

Not remotely true, most of the characters are pretty good honestly. Artina is good, she's just not an op unit so nobody cares that much. Seraphina is also relatively decent, but again not op. Desco is great, and everyone uses her every game because she's always one of the best magichange weapons you can use due to evilities. Usalia is just as good and as good a character. Rozalin is godlike design, one of the few characters to get real alternate sprites for her overlord transformation and not just a size increase, but gun users consistently do not get used in disgaea games. Sicily is great as a character, her design just isn't that stand out.
3 is the one with the worst characters probably.
And nobody uses etna and flonne either because their evilities consistently suck butthole and they get basically no lines when they're dlc characters anyway, which is a shame.

There's a couple maps that make it hard to do that even when overleveled
I got up to chapter 8 doing it with a Cleric for field testing and seeing how long it was going to take to unlock other generics. Some of those fights like the Higan one were down to the wire. I think it could have turned out better though if I invested on those growth evilites but again I was mostly rushing through at the time.

Yes, this is fine. This is infact how anything works in most of the disgaea games if you're trying to do it much earlier than you should.
Bringing out a bunch of support units with evilities that quadruple your damage and clear = perfectly fine.
The people who want to bring out 1 unit and use 1 move to clear the stage are clowns for complaining when it doesn't work because to do that you already have to have done half your grinding and vastly overpower the stage, at which point you don't need to be farming it anymore anyway.

The quality of the series dropped significantly with 6 and 7. 2D sprites are a must, the 3D models are okay but they just can't match that hard, defined appeal of the sprites. The music in 7 is a huge downgrade too and then attack animations still just pale in comparison to how they used to make them. The core Disgaea game-play is still in 6/7 so they're still kind of enjoyable but they just feel so sterile.

NISA fricked up with the Disgaea 5 demo on PC since it was the full game with some blockers in place. The blockers were removed within a couple hours and people had the full game for free. NISA responded by pulling the demo and delaying the release of 5 on PC by something like 6 months.
Meanwhile the Disgaea 5 modders got to work on the cracked version of 5 releasing a bunch of stuff, one of which being Rakshasa for 5. When the "real" game released the modder just said "Frick you, I'm not updating my mod for the version people will actually be playing from now on." And just like that it's lost to time.

What the hell happened with this series after D4? I remember being hyped for D5 but it turned out so mediocre it hurts.
D5 had very fun gameplay in my opinion, and I appreciated the whole Overload system further differentiating the characters.
It's probably gonna take a couple more games before they get their footing with the 3D models. I hope they retouch them in the future, because Laharl's is really bad and for some reason Laharl-chan has more animation and better posing despite having the exact same attacks. Laharl was probably one of the first models made as a proof of concept, or at least that's my explanation for him sucking ass.

Here, when it says "incident that shook the Three Worlds" they are referencing Disgaea 1, which involves a war between three factions: Humans, Celestia and the Netherworld. His story in 5 is about learning that demons are capable of loving and caring for each other, which eventually helps him forge a friendship with Krichevskoy and plan a way to connect Celestia and the Netherworld in 1.
That feels like a bit of an asspull, seeing as Christo and Lamington look nothing alike, but reading over your post I can see it making sense.
When I first read the epilogue, I was under the impression that the Three Worlds thing would be about a future Disgaea game, not a previous one. Maybe it could still be, but that would mean there would be a time in the future where Flonne is not the archangel.

You can, but it'll take a few characters for you to do so.
A skill learns his chosen elemental magic + star magic as he levels.
You can learn magic from other units using the skill squad when you unlock squads, so just get another skull the can use the magic you want to learn.
Or you could learn all the elemental magic and then reincarnate to a different element. But that would be a pain in the ass and take a ton of time.
Protip: some monsters also learn magic, if you'd rather level them instead of skulls. Spirits learn fire, sea angels learn ice, and I think flora beasts learn wind?
Yes, generally by putting them into a skill squad with a leader who knows the skill you're trying to learn and using it a bunch

Octopath is okay, it's low budget, its short on content its not a long game, it has almost no post game besides like one boss, but you're also unlikely to find it challenging its not a hard game by any means.

The last tiers of the gacha have swords and fists with the Weapon Skill 4 trait. Those weapons let the user use the 3x3s regardless of their skill level.

i softcapped my trap, beat normal baal and quit last time i played. booted it up again the other day and played more, duped like 7 traps and beat carnage void with every unit in my main squad, now i just need to farm more elixirs to make a curry that lets everyone survive carnage baal, or continue unlocking more evility slots on more than half my squad that dont have them maxed, most are like 12 evility slots only got 4 at 20.
then its figure out a way to get revenge gauge maxed without re-farming revenge booster weapons i sold months ago and without sacrificing player stat up/enemy stat down evilities on my supports to fit tension booster and THEN try carnage baal and pray a squad attack kills him
then the games done unless i wanna - for no reason - level up the rank 40 weapons even though my dudes are already stat capped with 3x traps, so i'm considering buying d4+ whilst its on sale now

That's one guy from one alternate netherworld, and the only alternate netherworld in the game.
What I'm irate about is how in newer games, every chapter now takes place in a different netherworld when they could all be taking place in the same one.
There's nothing wrong with other dimensions/Netherworlds/etc but they constantly just use it for whatever nonsense they're in the mood for. "Oh this is the hotspring Netherword" or "Oh this the sardine Netherword". They need to just tone it down and put more effort into the setting of the game. The first game mostly just the Netherworld, human world, and Celestia. It was simple but it was much more focused and had a lot more care put into it.
Yeah, in 7, they could have just split it up into three worlds.

The earlier games had tons of different environments in a single netherworld. Now if you want a different backdrop it's a different netherworld entirely. Different town? Different Netherworld.
I think the worst offender in 7 is the "Resale Netherworld." An entire netherworld for resale... but the shogunate only started its resale stuff when Opener took over.
5 they jump around netherworlds because the story is literally about a dude conquering 1000 netherworlds, but yeah in general they should limit it. netherworlds aren't that small, they can have different environments within them, unless they want to have an ice level in a fire netherworld or some shit
Yeah, I just finished the Resale place in 7 and that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. There's no effort put into anything anymore. 6 had lot of this as well and I think 5 did too though it's been a long time since I've played 5.

I think 3D chibis can work. Blue Archive has cute chibis and they are super detailed even their eyes show expression.
The D7 3D animations are still shit and they know it's still shit because they didn't even try to do any on field story cutscenes with 3D models.

every battle is 1 mastered class, and i just bought every upgrade to every squad and leveled up everyone to 9999.
i know this game is supposed to be disgaea 6 but fixed/toned down, but this is bananas.
also mastering a class gives you bonus stats, but they don't show on the "base stats" screen, just the normal stats screen that shows your entire number.
You have to reincarnate after mastering every class to really get the full benefit. But like you said, you effectively have infinite juice bar exp/mana at this point anyway.

if you can complete 1 map in 1 turn, that's 1 auto battle.
At which level do healers get Giga Heal? I had one reach like level 60 and was waiting for it to be unlocked but decided to reincarnate for more base SP.
Sometimes spells are tied to class rank rather than level, like professors didn't get braveheart and magic boost until rank 2 level 40.
You should get it earlier than 60 in most disgaeas, so its probably class rank

I just had my healer learn it around level 50 so it might be tied to wand mastery or something

Yes and one of their earlier class evilites is one that reduces the damage they take from counters too, making them hit harder while taking less back.

You can probably loophole it with item duplication or the balloon or whatever, but also, equipment barely matters.
usually you're meant to create one good accessory then dupe it a bunch of times when its done for a few characters if you want. it stopped being worth it to level weapons at the end a good few games back, but in the earlier games you did that too and then duped them

Probably? Everything can be viable if you try hard enough. It might not be "perfectly optimal" or whatever, but it'll work 99% of the time.

The 10 person deployment limit is a trap, you're always better off giving all the exp to a few choice units.
This isn't quite true, you'll only use a few units for attacking, but you will absolutely use your entire deployment + more for magichanging and with support evilities for any remotely challenging content or content above you
If it's the complete version there's a code to get the cheat shop and DLC units as the game starts. If you prefer specific units you might want to enter it.
Are there any generic evilities that increase max HP? Trying to grind for extracts now.
