Divinity OS2 - Driftwood Massacre

I need your help anons.
I was playing Divinity Original Sin 2. Everything was fine until I came to Driftwood.
Every time I try to cross towns square, one of my companions Ifan is recognized by Magistrate.
Than every fricking person in Driftwood join the fight.
My party was butchered 5 times in a row and I am unable to progres in any quest.
Did I do something wrong?

You had the opportunity to pick up a shapechanger helmet in act 1.

You could also leave Ifan outside of Driftwood while you do quests.

You could also pass the speech check.

    Maybe assassinate the guard silently.

Or reroll and play without Ifan. Boring dude anyway.

      Thank you for your help.
I think I will just leave him outside the town.
It will be easier then slathering everybody.

The named characters are all terrible. Make your own custom character and use lone wolf.

      Maybe as a second run.
I like Red Prince for his "I am so better then everybody attitude and the Beast for his sense of humor.
Ifan is fine, but I saw a lot of "cold heart professional killers" that it is nothing new to me.
Sebile is annoying b***h. Fain is an butthole. Lohse is kinda boring.

If its just Those two you like, Lone Wolf allows for one companion.

I played a Red Prince playthrough with lone wolf and a custom lizard companion. Suits him much better than tagging along with lower lifeforms.

Problem N1: You have origins characters in your party. Kill them all.
Problem N2: You can unchain them.

as youve been told, that entirely says more about you because you didnt even give examples of characters you like, just referred to these imaginary "players" that you probably mean to claim are actually just Ganker posters like yourself that dont like anything.

its autism. not even positive autism. i cant imagine outright recommending people reject all party members from a roleplaying game because they dont like the concept of "characters" at all

    >Jackie Welles
youve completely lost me on why "most" modern RPG characters are not well written. I dont know how a few whiny gays and snowflake OCs are so awful compared to a relatively benign and jovial hispanic brother in crime or headstrong paladin.

what are the characters you DONT like to make such a blanket claim. I mean i dont care this isnt 20 questions but im still of the mind that recommending to not engage in RPG game content due to bias is insane

What exactly do you dislike about Karlach, Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Asterion and Minthara that you prefer mute custom made characters? Can you give us specifics?

Not that anon but Divinity has very poor writing from the story to the characterization and Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't seem too different (only played 10 or so hours and dropped it).
In BG3, my assumption about the MC is they live in a dangerous world and am willing to defend themselves if needed/have a survival instinct.
Astarion put a knife to the MC's neck when I already had shadowheart, 100% with strength in numbers I am killing the guy. The game doesn't give the option for that to be a dialogue option (maybe I missed it) so I guess my roleplay was "shadowheart distracts and MC stabs him".
I heard he also tries to drink your blood, which also doesn't seem forgivable since you should have some responsibility for the others at the camp. Evil characters are fun but they shouldn't be a net negative when you first meet.
Shadowheart seems super boring "Mary Sue" at this time but I could be wrong, hate the voice acting. Lae'zel seems pretty average, not a big fan of the Tsundere trope but I could see myself liking her if I were ever to continue the game.

There are many games where I like every companion due to the writing style. Baldur's gate 1 and 2 has good likeable companions.
I like all of Fallout New Vegas companions, they have actually good voice actors and their writing is far more grounded in human interaction.
Maybe it's me but most newer RPGs I have tried don't seem very human, it might be due to more influence from modern movies than past books.

    >Tieflings are evil, it's literally in their blood. They're chaotic neutral, at absolute best.
Those are outdated rules from decades ago.
Might as well pretend Dwarves can only be Fighters because that's what they were in 1E, everyone knows game editions change a lot of stuff.

They don't, iirc the modern rule standard we're currently using is around a century old, which is nothing for a game like chess which has been around for a thousand years.
        >Maybe we just should play what we like.
I'm not WoTC so sure, it's only a problem if you care about what other people think of you or you simp for corporations, there's plenty of OSR groups around.
That still doesn't mean editions do not change stuff thoughlbeit.

I never played DOS2 because I found the first game too goofy. Generally do not like games that do not take themselves seriously, I accept some lightheartedness on the side, but not on the level they did in Divinity Original Sin 1.

I've heard that they learned their lesson in #2. Is it true, or just shill play-the-game talk?

    >Lae'zel
Believable alien companion. Her ethics and personality are not human and Lae'zel therefore offers unique takes. Also her character arc is simple but compelling. She's also got amazing voice acting.

    >Astarion
Superb voice acting. Humorous takes. Through and through evil. He's actually been through a lot of abuse, so he can be bullied or treated with kindness.
    >Minthara
I'm actually doing my playthrough with her now. I mostly used her because she is a rather down to earth companion. She's basically a ordinary drow that was gangpressed into service. She does offer a nice perspective on what the Absolutes plan actually means for the affected, i.e. rewriting of a persons core believes via mind control. Sexy af.
    >Karlach
Simple story about personal tragedy and her struggle to come to terms with death, ultimatively accepting it. Good voice acting.

    They're all just believable characters.
    >they're there and the default
I mean, yes, there was a lot of work put into these characters. It's impossible to have as many party members as BG1. The BG3 companions are pretty well made overall. The weakest ones are actually from BG1 as Minsc and Jaheira finished their character arcs two decades ago. (and Halsin)

currently playing with a friend who went full minmax sebille rogue, abusing adrenaline and skin graft constantly to get like 4+ attacks off every turn, whose attacks do like 3x-4x the damage of everyone else, and who is always trying to pickpocket NPCs before murderhoboing them, as well as using cloak & dagger to skip encounters and loot everything before everyone else can
how can I compete as a hydro fighter? my plan was to be a frontline tank with access to healing spells and rain -> global cooling -> frost explosion, but now I'm thinking I'd be better off with 1-2 points in everything so I could shock puddles, apply fortify, get hp back from doing dmg, etc.

What kind of cope is this? Did you even play the old D&D vidya?
The Tiefling companions from BG2 and PST are CN, and only Annah, prickly b***h that she is, comes vaguely close to your idea of what a Tiefling should be.
The Tiefling companions from NWN and NWN2 were CG and TN respectively, and Neeshka's not-Goodness showed up only as kleptomania and being a c**t to people who insult her.

Throughout the games and with most other depictions of Tieflings in D&D media, their devil blood is most often shown as general impulsiveness, not as outright capital-E Evil. Karlach still fits the mold, besides squeezing closer to Chaotic Good with not liking lying and fricking over innocents.

Alrighty, what about for mobility? Should I go for phoenix dive, dump 2 points into huntsman for tactical retreat, or just get 2 scoundrel for cloak & dagger? Which hydro skills are good for dmg? Right now I've only really got winter blast + rain + global cooling, hoping to get the skill that makes all ice explode eventually. I thought the fextralife frost paladin sounded cool but my god does it suck, I should've known better than to give fextra the benefit of the doubt for once. Right now I'm spread a bit thin on magic school points since I started dipping my toes into necro and polymorph for mosquito swarm, tentacle slap, and bull horns. I have most everything else you mentioned, still need to grab the warfare ram though.

At the moment I'm like 2/3 warrior : 1/3 hydro, and it's definitely sounding like I should be the other way around

      >fextralife frost paladin sounded cool but my god does it suck
Fex sucks but it doesn't suck as an idea, been long since i looked at their version but.
Warrior + earth (regen your physical armor with carapace) + hydro (regen magic armor and heal)
Plus the battlefield control you get from oil slicks and ice is immense, it is a wonderful tank you just slap some nails on the boots, and warrior gives you the damage esp if you use shield and it's nice reflecting captain america stuff to get ranged while you hold a chokepoint against the whole enemy map.
I seem to remember fex being overly focused on one late game gimmick with it which does work but it has tons of value before that point too if played right. I only play Lone Wolf tho so YMMV.

Another good staple is necro/warrior with a few in huntsman and the scoundrel tp.
Sebielle dark ranger build fits her like a glove
      >first turn elf blood thing
      >coat your arrows in blood and tons of shooty damage, followup with the necro spell one too for healing a bit of damage you might take with drain
      >double tp around the map
      >hunts has an extra heal spring iirc
I'll murder this game with for example Ifran or Beast frost paladin tank and Sebielle dark ranger build, two lone wolves, done.
It got even more disgusting when they patched in that torturer ranged power perk which can add a ton of DOT damage to work in.

My other combo is Lohse as hydro summoner, rushed to 10 for the big bois, totems covering the field, and Skully as earth and fire wizard to cover the other combo bases.

      Anonymous

always start with teleport that magister down then ignite all the oil asap. use surface switch to clean the platform for a while, cryogenic stasis the dude when he is almost dead, use globe of protection if you have it. Craft an elemental storm scroll and pop it when the fire slimes arrive. Paper+scource orb+carrot.

han, the little homosexual, won't gather source orbs yet
what's the best thing to send him off to get for selling

      Anonymous

Suck up all the oil with Oily carapace, move the various oil barrels away, the oil might be good for the normal slime waves but the real issue is when the void slimes come up and turn all the fire into necrofire, which heals them, so get rid of all the oil so the last few waves don't get any benefit.
Teleport the Magister to the bottom so he will kill himself by fighting the slimes, whether you keep the other moron alive or not doesn't matter, you only get a useless Scoundrel source skill book if you do, which you can buy for pennies later anyway, if you really do want to keep him alive freeze him or teleport him near the cave entrance.
All in all the fight is really easy if you have casters or rangers, even if you do not suck up the oil, but if you do it gets easier.
