>party ends up in a desperate situation facing the BBEG

Why would our DM do this?

I remember a player once got really mad at the DM because an NPC told us something that turned out to be a lie and the player thought it was unfair that NPCs could lie to us.

    You don't play games.

Because the alternative is the DM actually giving you a DMPC who can do everything for you, which is even gayer than you are, OP.

    >Why would our DM do this?
To tell the players that this antagonist is extremely dangerous in a way that doesn't punish them the way stepping on a land mine punishes a vatnik.

That's not what happens in the video I saw

Well, I'm referring to the hypothetical in the OP, not whatever flavor of the week anime you're talking about.

Just leave and become a farmer, if the super absurdly powerful DMPC can't do shit what can the party do?

  9. 8 months ago
    Anonymous

Because the NPC isn't going to resolve the situation. It's like if Superman shows up, of course he's got to be taken out by Kryptonite, or there's nothing for you to do.

No, he didn't die, he's just taking a nap, hes very tired after his fight.

    >party ends up in a desperate situation facing the BBEG
This is where your party fricked up. Ideally, you would've called upon the NPC prior to a straight slugfest, and make some plans to take down the BBEG together.
Regardless of how strong the NPC truly was, you would've done a bit better

Isn’t he like mid twenties cringe twink for fujo audience?

Why the FRICK would you write a character like THAT as the “strongest”? In a setting about MAGIC? He’s too young. Magic denotes wisdom and experience.

Is the author just a childish tumblrite?
    >Japan
    Of course he/she is lel

    >fans are sending death threats for killing him off
    LOL
This is the result of catering to the worst sort of fanbase in the worl
Don’t worry cringe gays, you still have this snowy haired twink in your hentai sites I bet.

Magic doesn't denote wisdom or experience.

It literally does. Magic has always been associated with the mystery and the hidden and the initiated. It’s why all those legendary occult figures in human history are old bearded pseudonym sages; Zoroaster, Ostanes, Pythagoras, Solomon, Moses, etc. Occult writers tried to emulate these old folks all the time.

He's got good genes. He's simply born better, he's a natural winner due to his bloodline.
Only nerds study, some people just have natural advantages.

Its called the worf effect. you play someone as the best and then have him job to the bad guy to make the bad guys seem better, which means you as the party needs to wield the power of friendship to take him down, perhaps using something other than strength

It's best when its compiled on with the good ally who was essential in defeating in the last villain getting mogged last time getting absolutely fricked up by the new villain

Worf wasn't even the strongest/resourceful Enterprise member. His role is basically Piccolo in DBZ, meaning the "filter", if you can beat Piccolo you can be treated as a serious threat, but Piccolo is by no chance the strongest

Piccolo is the coolest protagonist of the bunch though, and the one most likely to get short shrift who isn't outright useless or forgotten.

He gets more to do in the movies, at least.
