I would rather we get nothing than DMC banished to remake purgatory. Its not like RE where new games and remakes would come out close to each other. Remakes for DMC would mean nothing new until the next decade.

Remakes of 1 and 2 would be pretty cool tbf

Because it's complete shit that's why

A remake of 2 would be too much of an undertaking that simply making a new entry will be a better use of talent and resources. Frick remakes, give us new experiences. If you're too casual to enjoy 1 then you're not a fan in the first place.

I say, make a DMC 1 remake and add DMC2 as a short DLC campaign with extra bosses and weapons. It's set just a few years after 2, afterall.

The worst part is the mobile game and Netflix show will be shit, and unfortunately there will be moronic secondaries defending them like their opinion has merit. I'm not looking forward to Adi's shit tier cartoon being included in thread discussions.

      Anonymous

I don't care if people like the show or not, what I don't like is that the show is gonna have a new canon and people who start with the show is gonna view that as the "offical canon" and project it onto the games, like what happened with Castlevania

        Anonymous

I'm not concerned about people on Ganker projecting the cartoon onto the games, that will more or less be what happens to the majority of other sites online though so discussion will pretty much be a shitfest there. I think we're going to get either a worse version of discussion taint like when it became popular to pretend DmC was good or threads filled to the brim with election tourists posting image spam of black Trish or Lady or something equally shitty that kills thread discussion, Castlevania fans have to deal with it because that shit fricking show causes entire threads to be derailed due to culture war bullshit or Alucard ass rape posts, and those types of things are Netflix's M.O., so I would be mentally prepared for that since DMC and CV kind of have a similar track record of getting rebooted and dying and then getting ass shows years later. Only difference is we at least got the reboot reversed, but you can see the future of thread discussion a little bit if you look at CV threads.

Probably because Itsuno couldn't find a worthy successor to pass off heading the franchise so your best bet is that he'll work on 6 after DD2 is finished and not on another game. Capcom hire me

      Anonymous

We know he's working on a Final Fight remake after DD2 but it's apparently a smaller scale project so maybe it'll only be 10 years before DMC6 instead of 20

For both better and worse, mainline DMC is directly tied to Itsuno as a director and he has other plans. Every attempt to hand it off to someone else has bombed horribly and seemingly no one is even interested in taking a crack at it.
Looking back, it's happened to a lot of Capcom franchises. IPs that are strongly tied to their creators going to a new team and flopping hard or just fading out as their creator focuses elswhere.

The guy who did DMC5SE might be worthy.

How fricking hard can it be to make a new DMC when DMC5 already laid like 90% of the groundwork? Christ just take the 5 engine and make a DMC business sim where you take hunting jobs, get money and decorate Dante's office with devil arms and demon artifacts and shit. Capcom hire me

Capcom always comes up with the gameplay for DMC first and then the story afterwards, Devil Breakers and V were first concieved of as gameplay systems and then they wrote the story to fit them.

tbh DMC is good because the games are crafted to be fun I don't want to see a million DMC games shat out in a five year period because they said frick it let's just rush to grab more money, the gacha is already way paat pushing it.

Good luck justifying the productions costs and pulling members off of other products to develop it. 5 only got the (relatively low) budget and members it did because Itsuno is a tenured employee and he leveraged personal connections he'd made over decades, even pulling in people that had quit Capcom 10+ years ago.

          >Good luck justifying the productions costs and pulling members off of other products to develop it

Cost and production clearly isn't a problem for DMC since it technically gets "new stuff" constantly, it's more that nobody apart from Itsuno seems either willing or talented enough to make more.

Licensing the IP out for some bumfrick Taiwanese company to make a phone game or for some artist to create stickers is a lot different to creating a game in-house.
DMC5 couldn't even get DLC despite the director and producer outright expressing the desire for it because the higher ups didn't approve. 5SE only got made to shill new gen consoles and even then its budget was so hilariously low that they couldn't even afford to make the new cutscenes in-engine.

It's been proven time and time again that DLC for singleplayer games is a bad investment, most people just play DMC like any other game and move on. This is why Sony started doing lower budget 1.5 sequels for their games instead. which imo Capcom should be doing with DMC as well

                >The DLC just needs to be big enough. See: Phantom Liberty.

Phantom Liberty is a perfect example of exactly why most companies don't bother. It had a budget of 85 million dollars which is more than a lot of AAA games and it sold 4.3 million copies. Less than 1/5'th of the base game. CDPR did it because they needed to restore trust after the shape CP launched in

                >In other words, it made a profit.

Yeah, but a new Witcher game would probably have made an even bigger profit. Which was my point. CDPR even came out and said that there would be no more expansions for the game after PL because putting that effort into Cyberpunk 2 is just smarter business

                Anonymous

CDPR promised multiple DLCs before release. They even promised the first expansion to be free with CP77 special edition of Xbone X console, and the DLC wasn't even released for Xbone X.

The smarter idea would be New Vegas like standalone expansion. Graphics reached the point where it's not necessary to keep remaking similar assets just to justify making a numbered sequel.

ehh it depends on the kind of game really. generally there are two kinds: the one-and-done "experience" games, and the games where expect people to replay it a gorillion times

                Anonymous

that is to say, the former applies to your example with Sony's 1.5 sequels since they excel in making these kind of movie games. the latter however, imo benefit more from a DLC than an interquel so that they can have more time to work on a proper sequel later down the line.

Doesn't DMC regularly sell like fricking hot cakes? Why always the fricking pushback to make another?

            Anonymous

Every DMC has sold enough to be profitable but none have sold mega gangbuster numbers.
5 comes the closest, with it selling massively well relative to its budget, but even then it only sold on the level of a middling RE title.
It also has a history of critically bombing every time someone new tries to take up the reigns. It's just not worth the gamble to the big wigs upstairs. Not to mention all the ~~*market research*~~ they love showing that the hypothetical budget and staff of a new mainline DMC would be put to better use on a brand new IP rather than the 6th entry in a franchise.

DMC is basically toe to toe with SF in terms of sales now,. It's RE and MH that sell +10 million, and then you have DMC and SF about 5 - 8 million

Nero was meant to have Yamato in 4 and Cavalierre in 5 but he lost out both times. Breaker switching takes away from the risk/reward approach to the system as well as eliminating that feeling of prep and tactics on higher difficulties. They should probably do more of that type of thing to really sell that gambling and reckless aspect of Nero. Which is why there should be stealing enemy weapons ala Bayonetta.

                DMC has an odd history.

                >DMC1 was one of many RE4 prototypes but one of the few to be turned into a full game
                >DMC2 was greenlit during 1's development yet the team who made 1 weren't even aware
