literally a corridor shooter
90% of the game is corridors, and the other 10% are small rooms that connect the corridors. there is not a single large room or hall in this game. and I am not kidding.
the sound design, atmosphere and the dynamic lighting are top tier tho. played best with lights out and volume turned up
while the weapons/enemies feel light and the gameplay isn't outstanding, the art direction and visuals certainly are.
I often come back to D3, play a level or two just to bask in the atmosphere and then close it. the game isn't full of "filler content" per say, the campaign is worth playing as a whole but it's not something you'd come back to time and time again unless you absolutely loved in in your first go.
I recommend you play the original 2004 version with a modified config file for max fidelity and an optimal resolution:

you could additionally play on the dhewm3 source port, which gives you modern conveniences like the ability to run the game in 64bit and alt-tab out of it while in fullscreen:

if your only option is the BFG Edition though (which I would normally recommend against since it makes a lot of confusing changes to the gameplay and presentation), you can use RBDoom3, which is full of options and tweaks to the overall experience:

Fair enough, I don't think anyone has found a way to make the base engine work with high refresh rates yet.
Its the worst game in the series, but that still makes it a good game. It desperately wants to be Half Life for some reason.
Just imagine Doom 4 but instead of the all powerful and feared Doomguy you're some scared marine who somehow makes it out alive.
Funny thing is, the Doom 3 marine only shows fear towards the demons once in the game, in 99% of the cutscenes he's perfectly contempt and well-composed.
I've even heard that it damages the game's fear factor by making the protag completely unphased by the majority of the things he sees throughout it.

There is nothing worse than a horror game that feels too long. Doom 3 is even worse in that regard than Alien Isolation. The Doom 3 E3 demo with Reznor sound fx is a better experience unironically
good game, the shotgun is a bit of a disappointment though due to its massive spread, essentially it's the taser from CSGO.
But it's still a great atmospheric horror shooter
Just buy the OG.the few things that the BFG edition improves can be done better with mods, and the things it messes up simply cant be reverted(basically destroys the tension and atmosphere with a shoulder flashlight and way to much ammo)
underrated. i had fun with it.
i've just got vanilla d3 & the expansion. no need for the bfg edition.
if you get vanilla doom 3, use the dhewm 3 (i think that's how it's spelt) port, since it modernizes the engine.
>Do I spend money?
Yes!!
It's a good game. I haven't played it but I have played the original Doom 3 for Xbox.
It's great. I replay every 2 years or so
i tried to finish it multiple times but at some point i always get too bored to go on
I've played it twice, but don't remember anything about it.

I kinda wish I got BFG instead because of the fps cap limitation
but I doubt dhewm 3 will ever fix that

I enjoy the game but I always get lost and have never beat it 🙁

buy the original on steam, stay away from bfg
I think it's a boring console shooter without the decency to make any of its pdas remotely fricking interesting.
Nice art, though.
