It really won't, and you're being sucked into the doomer shit where they claim the game is entirely detached because muh lock-on. It's still massively focusing on part management and loadouts.
Part management and loadouts are the fun part that everyone can get into. What's more divisive is the PS1 Jap jank that the dedicated fans fell in love with but is generally disliked by most who approach it. If you boil down AC, it's all one big minigame of putting the other robot in a square and pressing shoot, but complicated somewhat by the fact that you have to dodge incoming shots. All the garage stuff just modifies your ability to play that minigame. From moved away from this with AC6 to pursue something more like their recent titles in terms of combat. If you like AC but dislike Souls then perhaps this isn't for you but if you like them both it seems like this could be a match made in heaven.

Memes aside yes a big part of AC is doing shit in your garage and you can easily spend 50% or more of your time there. The game is huge on its simulator elements.
As somebody who's genuinely grown up playing the whole Armored Core series, it's totally fine to not like the old ones, even if you like 6. The series is very old, and the controls in particular are extremely dated. There used to be elitism back in the day about the newer controls of 4 and 5 being "too easy", but really Fromsoft just hadn't made an accessible control scheme yet.
Not to disagree entirely, but FromSoft isn't exactly a studio that's known for chasing trends, or putting all their money into only the safe option. There's a reason the souls series got popular in the first place: it was different and unique, didn't hold your hand

That's true, but the games in the AC series play pretty differently from each other. Gen 1-3 play different from Nexus which plays different from Gen 4, which plays different from Gen 5. If you're going to play anything prior to Nexus you might as well start from Gen 1 since those all play similarly.

Checkpoints make it a lot more viable as an idea too. Along with the set healing. Very easy to balance some AC showing up in certain sections potentially and getting an insane bonus from killing them and not give the opposing ac any healing available. You’d likely win the DPS race just from having any healing whatsoever. And if you die, well back to the last checkpoint then.
I say this because Raven ambushes were kino even back with Wildcat in AC1 and having online pvp potential on repeat playthroughs on certain missions and sections of those would be cool. And if you don’t want, well then just offline like you would do anyway

I've been playing AC since PS1 (Jampack demo disc was my first exposure) and MH since MH1 on the PSP and played it hardcore on PSP. MHW is easily the best the series has been. Not because it's casualized, but because its MonHun at its core and polished to the nines. I think that's what AC6 will be and I welcome it. I especially love how they've taken mechanics and mech designs from many different AC generations. Seems like an easier to control and slower 4 answer with more refined level design. Can't wait to see some actual AC vs AC combat.

Ac4 was ass, finished the campaign in like 3 hours, completely forgettable. I vaguely remember some city you fly around real fast like a sonic the hedgehog level, something with a canyon and then the final boss was in some circular Zzzzz room. I honestly couldn't tell you want happened in the story if I tried. Spent like an hour with the arena mode thing, that was about it, completely ran out of content in like a day.
The mechanics were fine but too fast paced imo, kind of kills the meticulous heavy mecha autism when you're flying around on rollerskates and just chugged a gallon of soda. I prefer more realistic slower mech warrior or early ac kind of stuff where you actually have to manage your resources, plan and engagements or get rekt. None of this inconsequential adhd lazor beam lightshow rave party crap.

That's a lot of projecting. AC4 was easy piss. Never said it was hard, or didn't enjoy it, I just prefer autism management. Think it was one of the few games I nearly 100% all the achievements back on the old egg box days. Again cleared all that in a day or so and promptly forgot about it. The thing is you can't port a game on PC and not consider K&M, it's impossible, and we know for a fact that even if they did keep the exact same control layout things would be even worse because everyone who didn't use K&M would be at a massive disadvantage because as shown, K&M completely break the games, hence the change in control to put everyone on the same playing field regardless of what peripherals they're using.

AC2 is fine. The big issues I remember were framerate drops. From also didn't make use of the dual analog despite it being a PS2 launch game hut that was just their autism and they didn't change that until 5 games later.
AA is just a massive mission pack with basically no story and more grievously, no arena. If you wanted a more concrete goal to work towards it wasn't here.
Most people like 2nd gen due to nostalgia. Beyond that though the people who go back and play through gen 1 usually realizes sooner or later how much Gen 2 didn’t improve on or just got way slower to overly accommodate Overboost. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t a dumb kid at that time and was super in gen 1, I’d probably be fuming over AC2

AC was barely pulling 300,000 units globally per game by the time we hit Nexus, with 80% of those sales being in Japan. FromSoft couldn't continue the franchise in that state.

Not at all. They are formative for the series and company history, but old AC is like Street Fighter 1. Neat concept, shit controls. Unfortunately the fanbase in North America appears to be an offshoot of autistic persons who skipped memorizing the details and nuances of locomotives, their parts, and schedules and instead focus all that autism power on the AC parts.
QRD of old AC lore = human plus was EZ mode for players, and Moonlight and Karasawa were From Software cross game series meme weapons.

But.. there's no big differences in controls between AC1 and AC3SL, and they're all great games. Just remap the controls to something that make sense to you and even AC1 plays very well.
I actually used the same base controls from AC1 until Nexus introduced dual sticks, with movement and strafing on the face button and aiming on dpad or the left stick
works very well for AC Gen 1 to 3. Sure it's better with dual sticks but not THAT much better to me.
Obviously. Full control remapping is one of the things From Software got consistently right, however that does not change my opinion that in a modern context AC controls were clunky / obtuse. The game employing every damned button packed onto the control could also be streamlined. Even Daemon X Machina pretty much took the AC controls over to the Switch rather than come up with a more elegant solution. I am very curious to see how AC6 handles, having read comparisons to the Gundam Extreme Vs. games for it.

Are any of the other games like For Answer with a fast pace and good mix of story missions and 1v1 arenas? Cause thats the only one I liked so far.
Older gens are slightly slower but plenty also have a fine mix of story and arena. Stand out titles would be Project Phantasma, Master of Arena, 2, 3, Silent Line, and Last Raven.
I just don't want to see anime characters as a the forefront of a mecha game. Zone of Ender has a handful of that, many indie mecha games is chuck full of it, and that machina whatever game from Switch can go frick itself. Mecha should and always be the main star of the show.
