Cut certain blood vessels and a character will bleed out on a realistic timer depending on the rate of blood loss. Disrupting the upper CNS will immediately take someone out of the fight, make them unresponsive before they succumb to their injuries and die. Swords should actually cut things. Blunt weapons should visibly break bones and dent armor. All of these things are what real next gen games should focus on. This industry is just stagnating endlessly.

Doing it without discussing with the player first or at least giving another player character a dice roll to determine if they could prevent it, and a dice roll afterwards to determine if they could realize they were drained, would have been more tact.
Unfortunately the reality of a lot of RPG games is that players will act out their interests and personalities through their character, and while you obviously enjoy engaging directly with people and even causing discomfort to drive home better storytelling and lore building, another player may simply see it is as a power play that they have (silently) considered but did not vocalize to you, expecting you to have better self control.
Realistically, the DM could have understood this better, but if two people fail to communicate out of three then almost always the third will feel (rightly) outnumbered. I’m a DM of about five years now, and the amount of drama that can be caused by not giving players enough warning when you want to directly interact with a player character’s health, purity, or backstory without either implicit or explicit checkpoints is pretty common.
I think being a DM is really hard, since sometimes you have to consider multiple viewpoints, such as when a PC is feasibly planning and vocalizing contingencies in case the party starts to die being demoralizing for the other players, or when video-game logic overrides and spoils actual roleplaying. Shit’s tough, but you genuinely expressing surprise and even reflection on this means at least you’re not “that guy”.

A game engine should have a universal all encompassing physics model. The assets themselves should be built anatomically so the rigging skeleton is rigid, muscle can flex, be hard, or soft depending, and fat can freely move and jiggle within a certain range under a skin layer.
In a similar vein there should also be an engine with an anatomical model for damage. Cut certain blood vessels and a character will bleed out on a realistic timer depending on the rate of blood loss. Disrupting the upper CNS will immediately take someone out of the fight, make them unresponsive before they succumb to their injuries and die. Swords should actually cut things. Blunt weapons should visibly break bones and dent armor. All of these things are what real next gen games should focus on. This industry is just stagnating endlessly.

Saints Row 3 and 4 get a lot of shit but one thing I love about them is that they had a very in-depth jiggle physics system for the era. The clothes your character wore would affect how much bounce she had, even down to the bra she was wearing. This player got astonishingly uspet, she considered this one of the worst things ever and got really mad (in game, of course, she wasn't stupid and wouldn't carry a grudge against me as a person, but it was clear that she was projecting her own disgust in the scene rather than only the character's) and it surprised me so much that this "rapey" moment angered her so much and she found it a most henious crime while the rest of the guys at the table didn't expect that; when also there were other crimes comitted that we would argue were worse than non consensual blood sucking.

Doing it without discussing with the player first or at least giving another player character a dice roll to determine if they could prevent it, and a dice roll afterwards to determine if they could realize they were drained, would have been more tact.
Unfortunately the reality of a lot of RPG games is that players will act out their interests and personalities through their character, and while you obviously enjoy engaging directly with people and even causing discomfort to drive home better storytelling and lore building, another player may simply see it is as a power play that they have (silently) considered but did not vocalize to you, expecting you to have better self control.
Realistically, the DM could have understood this better, but if two people fail to communicate out of three then almost always the third will feel (rightly) outnumbered. I’m a DM of about five years now, and the amount of drama that can be caused by not giving players enough warning when you want to directly interact with a player character’s health, purity, or backstory without either implicit or explicit checkpoints is pretty common.
I think being a DM is really hard, since sometimes you have to consider multiple viewpoints, such as when a PC is feasibly planning and vocalizing contingencies in case the party starts to die being demoralizing for the other players, or when video-game logic overrides and spoils actual roleplaying. Shit’s tough, but you genuinely expressing surprise and even reflection on this means at least you’re not “that guy”.
