Refuse? No. They make excuses and insist they don't have the time to learn another game or that their group only wants to play D&D.
It's less about "having to learn another system" and more about human brain just having a tendency to succumb to sunk cost fallacy very easily.
Once they got some D&D supplements they grow worried that investing time and money in other systems somehow retroactively invalidates their prior purchases so they keep just buying more D&D stuff.
Well I at least agree that the human brain has a tendency to suck cum
I find that's more of a D&D problem than anything. Introducing people to a system that requires a large mental investment instills this idea that every system is going to be like that, and they'll be right back where they started going
>What a d12?! What do you mean roll a 'check'?! They keep saying level and skill?! Where are those? CHARACTER SHEET?!?
Instead of realizing that they already understand the basic gist of every RPG on the market and can probably learn the basic rules of any game in about 20 minutes.
Yes, I won't play your game if it doesn't utilize the full set of dice that D&D made popular. No, I don't care that you like what I don't like.
Now do the maths on how often a strength 8 wizard will be able to lift more than a strength 14 barbarian.
STR*15
So never.
Lift, not carry. Lifting is a check.
No it isn't.
no, forcing something like a door or chest lid COULD be a check. you only roll when the outcome of an action is uncertain. lifting is very clearly ruled as twice your carry capacity.
I said dice, not game rules.
let's see, lifting capacity is strength score times 30.
so a str 8 wizard can lift (8*30) 240 lbs
a str 14 barbarian can lift (14*30) 420 lbs.
the math says never.
I don't care what "people" do.
I use the D20 for how it suits my games, because I like the balance of granularity-versus-simplicity for result tables and its 5% increments. A lot can be done with just one die.
So that also means I don't deal with D&D either.
I'm up to play anything. If you invite me, I'll be there.
I think this Black persondry will finally be coming to an end, ironically thanks to Critical Role.
now the frickers won't play anything without a d20 or 2d12
Probably. I refuse to play anything that does use it after all.
Playing online doesn't have this hassle.
Whatever the system you just press the button and the script tells you how much you fricked up.
guy in our group refused to play anything but pathfinder, we removed him
I wouldn't go so far as to call them "people".
My group plays and enjoys other games, but typically, they don't want to run them. I usually end up having to GM for non-D&D stuff. They've been getting better, though. Even running some stuff themselves unprovoked.
>try to get friends to play WHF because I find d100 systems fun
>get nothing but "learning new game too hard" every time I bring it up
The people who "can't learn another system" are also the people who have no idea what their spells do.
Six sided dice are for little kid games.
Therefore one plays games primarily relying on specialist dice for specialized gamers, provided one is a SERIOUS gamer.
I sometime cry a little bit when my pee burns
i only play d2 game
OP needs to realize that dice are extremely lame and that real men exclusively play the Amber diceless RPG system.
I've found it's the opposite. Even d20 systems are better if you swap out the core roll for 2d10.
