      This.
I still don't understand why "writers" want to insert their slop so hard in small games like this when it's clear it doesn't really fit that well.

I still don't understand why "people" like you get so visibly upset, red in the face and probably start sessions of facepunching and pant shitting when they see some cartoon depiction of a non white character. I mean, what kind of lard baby bubble do you live in?
The most revolting part is when you start making up ridiculous reasons for it, other than the diarrhea /misc/ skullfricked you with and you gleefully adopted.
        What a waste of life.

Jokes aside, yea it's REALLY fricking forced. I just enjoy what's enjoyable about it, and look past the rest. It's really a fun game. I like cutting ships. I am immensely upset that there's basically no modding community for this game. Or Carrion, another game I love but has no modding community.

Apparently the devs coded the game so badly it's almost impossible to mod new ships in. They could have just made it modular and with snapjoints, but I suppose that was too much for a small indie company.

      Anonymous

the worst part about the plot is that the game is piss easy. even if you played it very safe you could pay off your debt in like a year with probably zero deaths. despite this the game is making it seem like you are making a dollar a day and every moment is pure life-on-the-line stress.

you cannot have a plot about labor exploitation when the base gameplay is so enjoyable and relaxing.

        Anonymous

Some guy worked out that you could pay off your whole debt in several months or so of effecient work, which is actually really goddamn fast when you look at modern education loans.

If you play it absolutely as safe as possible and only salvage Mackerels you'd be making good money. Lynx is supposed to have some kind of ever-sliding upward goal in the background but we really never see that outside of people b***hing on the radio.

          Anonymous

yeah, being able to salvage whatever you want at your own pace completely ruins the stressful atmospher. the plot would actually have worked fine if you kept getting harder and harder jobs with more strict salvage efficiency goals to the point where you're actually not able to keep up THEN it would have felt correct.

its so incredible how this game is an example of fantastic gameplay near-ruined by the plot.

            Anonymous

It doesn't really help that everyone but Weaver is a frick up. No one else on the team can consistently salvage a reactor, which is literally the one thing you need to be able to do.

Like, yeah it sucks the job is hard I guess but some of you guys have been at this for years and you still can't yeet the reactor assembly into the giant frickoff net directly below you.

Did you miss the part where you're well over a billion dollars in debt thanks to all the shit Lynx charges you at the beginning of the game as well as the fact that thanks to all the shit they take out of your pay you're basically earning a fraction of what you should be earning?

          Anonymous

You can pay off the debt in a couple of months in-game. Although in the final release I think the devs added new debt because they realized you could pay if off too quickly and that undermined their point.

Somehow they claim that they took inspiration from early 20th century miner events. Y'know, forced to buy from the company store. Company owns your house. National Guard firebombs you when you get fed up etc. But nothing how the "story" plays out makes any sense if they're taking from such brutal history. Oooh the company clones you if you frick up and die and then charges you. But there's no actual failure-state with your debt, and you can never actually pay it off anyway. I can think of a few ways that would've made it better.

      1. You can actually pay off your debt, but the company hires goons to try to kill you at work and/or easily paid off "protestors" to sabotage things for you.
      2. The Media is not a friend to your little union. They slander your names, and make it increasingly difficult to get any real help. To the point where even your family is turning against you.
      3. Most common end to the game should be the company agreeing with the unions terms. And then something catastrophic happens, killing all of you off. You wake up decades later with no memory of what happened, working for a company that's just one of many shell companies of the original, and with an entirely fresh list of debt worse than the one you had before. This is NG+.

        Anonymous

        yeah it should be
        >you make some money
        >prices in company shop for supplies, food, air increase
        >your lodging price increase
        >you get more off time(you still need pay rent, utilities, food, air etc)
        >you get worse(less profitable, more time consuming, more dangerous ships to break) jobs for less
        >you need to pay for your scavenging time(energy, fuel, suits, filters, tools whatever - you either need to rent them(and pay) or buy then(and pay)
        >pay for tools, suit maintenance etc
So its endless race when you try to be in green but company will do extra to try to screw you over

I think I remember one of the devs said that there was some kind of issue with the engine or their coding that made the implementation of a ship builder impossible, so I wouldn't be surprised if modding it is just impossible all around.

sounds like they cobbled the whole thing together like a pack of morons; which, given the state of Homeworld 3's demo, doesn't shock me in the slightest.

              >issue with the engine or their coding that made the implementation of a ship builder impossible
I mean from a gamedev perspective I can understand it. They probably procgen those ships but it doesn't mean that any of the mechanics they've built into the game are suited for ship building. It would likely be pretty much building a whole new game inside the same engine to provide ship building.

nta but the problem is that the ending completely throws the entire plot into the garbage

I get it, the devs tried to go with a cynical outlook on labor organization and all, and tho it's sadly realistic I suppose, it unsatisfying as plot

Vanilla Minecraft is a cozy game until you start getting into redstone, so becomes autism simulator.

        Modded Minecraft depends,
        >if you are into those factory/industrial mods, it just redstone all over again.
        >If you go for RPG, monsters, weapons, magic and shiet, it falls into terraria (not a cozy game nor a dad game).

Depends on the modpack. Anywhere from "i built a cozy farm and went to kill a boss on my pet dragon" to "i automated uranium mine logistics which now automatically loads and launches a rocket to my main base and written a custom sql-like DMS which keeps track of all the resources in all of my outposts after starting out in a stone age and having to handcraft clay pots for storage"

I would add, Dad games are usually mind-numbing monotonous chore tasks. Something that a dad would enjoy despite having no interest in video-games whatsoever. Both cozy/dad games appeal mostly to non-gamers.

Autism simulators like Factorio and industrial mods, are not dad games.

I really wish the devs would have gone the hostile-AI-story-route and not the shitty unions story the game has now. I was really hoping to see the AI nodes fleshed out some more and the helmets and data logs telling more about an incoming doom in the shape of Homeworld infected ships precursors or something like that. Also, some more ships, not just variations would've been great. And some kind of decompression tool. The fourt tool slot was empty anyways, so some kind of hull borer which would seal to the hull but slowly decompress the interior it punctured would've been great. Maybe even a repairer for the interior atmosphere controls.
Instead the game was rushed out of the door, the devs were pulled from the project mid-way, and now HW3 is a thing, but looks bad as well... sad times.
