Not in all games. Nemona is obviously always female. Shauna is also always female and has the same dialogue no matter if male or female MC.
Lillie is the only character who has a different dialogue with the female MC but she's not a rival.

Depends I usually don't. I like to kind of self insert as the guy but when I get bored of seeing the same character I play the girl (or just import sprites on the male character)
