Sometimes I take my DS on remote hikes and will play for a bit when I want to take a break. Sitting around innawoods is nice. I'll do the same thing with a book now and then. Very pleasant.
I used to have hours of fun with DSes with family friends as a kid in the wilderness. We cheated and had a generator though when they needed charging.
I reckon kids have way more ability to do that nowadays because of solar panels now. Back then playing video games, even a gameboy, was a bit strange and impractical because of power supply issues. You either needed a petrol gen or heaps of batteries.
Literally only ever tried it once back in high school. Took my PSP and played Daxter during lunch break and people made fun of me and the glare on the screen was annoying too. Frick I wish Daxter had a PS2 port.
If you only brought GTA to school instead you'd be the coolest guy around.
