Loaded question. Dread is pretty good, but not great imo. It did a lot of things right, but some things it fumbled. Best 2D bosses in the series though.
Are you part of the same homosexual group that has been trying to meme that 2.5D isn't real?
What is with this moronic shit lately? I've noticed with other terms as well. I swear it's an attempt to destroy all terms slowly but surely.
AM2R homosexuals are insufferable. Playing a mediocre fangame was their way of "showing up" Nintendo. The absolute worst were the ones that said the game should be on eshop and wanted to pay for it.
SR melee is shit and obviously built around it, low-res 3D graphics are shit, and boss-fights were shitty shit shit. Simple as. AM2R is objectively better and it has nothing to do with "spite". If that were true, I would be defending all fangames, but most are shit.
SR melee is shit and obviously built around it, low-res 3D graphics are shit, and boss-fights were shitty shit shit. Simple as. AM2R is objectively better and it has nothing to do with "spite". If that were true, I would be defending all fangames, but most are shit.
I like both SR and AM2R. Neither are awful and its posts like both of yours that remind me how fricking homosexual this board is
It was great, it's just that the last time a 2D Metroid came out was almost 20 years ago and you were 20 years younger when you played it, just like every Nintendo property. No, Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion were not these 11/10 incredible genre-defying masterpieces, you were 12 or some shit playing a GBA. The fact that they managed to make a Metroid game that could hold my attention in 2022 is an incredible feat. If Nintendo proper made it I'm sure that it would have an hour long tutorial and lots of unskippable cutscenes/dialogue, as well as a baby mode
>blogpost just to shit talk fusion and zero mission
It’s okay if you have shit taste anon but just come out and say it next time. Also you’re objectively wrong, I’ve replayed both fusion and zero mission in the last decade and they hold up fine. Better than super dare I’d say.
>I timed a parry >this means I should get a 30 second cutscene and free damage >Super Metroid is trash because I had to *gasp* avoid enemy attacks once in a while
Bosses are dog shit, just like they were in Returns. Parrying mechanic is less hamfisted in than Returns did, but still a pain. The EMMY's suck ass. They get a little play pen that locks you in, they can just detect you if they want. The invisibility power is next to worthless. Run two screens away and go invisible and hide on a ceiling and the EMMY will still just walk right up and jump into you. Why do all the bosses have SO MUCH HP?! Why did they lean so hard into shine sparking for some of the power ups and still will not give advanced technique tutorials, and instead you just have to know that you can wall jump while shine sparking to extend the timer by 0.x miliseconds so you can move through two zig-zags and around a bend to shine spark up for a +5 missile...
I actually like the shinespark parkor, and the fact that they never even tell you about it just means that it makes you want to experiment. Very refreshing for a change, but I can see why someone wouldn't like it.
>they can just detect you if they want. The invisibility power is next to worthless. Run two screens away and go invisible and hide on a ceiling and the EMMY will still just walk right up and jump into you
I find it funny that people who don't know how it works b***h about this.
How does it work then, anon? Yes they detect you by last known location. Yes they detect you by sound. It still doesn't stop them from just knowing where you are and jumping up into ceilings after you've slowly crawled away a bit from where you were up on a ceiling while invisible.
It might be possible that it just came across you while searching. It's not out of the realm of possibility. I'm not the biggest fan of EMMIs, but it's something that can happen.
I thought it was fine tbh. People want a Super Metroid 2 with all the sequence breaks and tech hardwired in, not realising that Super Metroid was more of a happy mistake than a closely tested and designed game
Some of us aren’t neet losers with no money. Idgaf about $60, I’d rather have a shorter non padded game than a cheap drawn out one. Hollow Knight doesn’t drag too hard but it could have been 5-10 hours shorter and I highly doubt anyone would be complaining, it’s a very common criticism that is kind of overstays it’s welcome.
Pros >360 aim is a staple now >fixed Returns melee attacks so it's swift and keeps momentum >flash shift >EMMI >chozo palace >boss fights kicked ass
Cons >music and map is probably one of the worst in the series >loading takes forever. Placing teleporters everywhere is just bad design >villain's plan kinda dumb >long-awaited reunion with chozo bro and he's just used as a plot-dump and dies
so is OP a seething hollow Black person trying to cope over silksong STILL not existing? Or yet another supergay asshurt dread wasn't a literal copy/paste of super?
It's a game suited for the SNES. Outdated design principles where 60 bucks is not justified. Very poor replayability, no extra modes no nothing. Just a few hours trip through the map and you've no reason to ever play it again, just like Luigis mansion 3. If a game doesn't offer at least a hundred hours of play then it's no good. 20 to 30 would have been a more acceptable price. They didn't even try to make an impressive game. How about a randomizer? Procedual map generation? If that's just too hard then why wasn't the regular map traversible by multiple routes? it's a railroad all the way through. You don't get to make choices unless you literally cheat with camera breaks and noclipping or some other stupid bugged shit.
The intro being nothing but words words words and cheap pictures is an immediate red flag. So low quality for a modern work. It's a pity because the movement is really slick and it could have been a truly good game but they didn't care. No vision. Modern games NEED replayability or a reasonable price tag. I don't care to do the same shit again with nothing changed.
Fusion was the start of the era of killing Metroid from making all the stupid moves that put the series on ice after Other M. >crappy humanization of Samus that she really didn't need and show that the devs never had any understanding of her character prior >human space station over an alien Chozo planet >reusing the same factions for fanservice >making a new faction that just mimics the old factions >Samus ugly ass new suit >Adam is annoying as hell >linear and scripted as hell >can no longer get upgrades in any order >music didn't sound like Metroid >didn't even have Samus's theme song >game hand holds you without even trying to hide it >corrupt Federation Army plotline that would pit Samus against the good guys, humans
Fusion sucked ass and it led to the even worse Other M. Even Dread refuse to acknowledge the corrupt Federation Army plot.
have a nice day, morons that shout character never had a character before never understood the character in the first place, this shit also happens with Halo with Halo 4 and 5 defenders.
That's true of any video game character. Giving them "story" and "lore" and "personality" was worse for vidya than introducing DLC and microtransactions.
>corrupt Federation Army plotline that would pit Samus against the good guys, humans
This was due to a mistranslated, the actual story is that there was a small corrupt group with in the federation that caused the events of fusion.
>press X to awesome cutscene whoa samus is so badass
the counter "mechanic" they introduced in the last game was shit and they only made it worse in Dread. Most fights are just "wait for the ennemy to flash and press X"
Dread is much better than SR in every way, though some of that is because the original Metroid 2 map was dogshit. However, I hesitate to say it's better than Fusion. Some of the new mechanics are nice, but Fusion had a much better map and overall atmosphere. Dread is kind of in between Fusion and SR.
Dread is great, but it had two major failings for me:
>Preventing backtracking/closed map design
Whenever I got a new item in Dread, I would remember the 3 places I could use that item to advance and try to backtrack to that location. But the game doesn't let you backtrack, it stops your progress and keeps you on the forward track so you don't get lost. I liked getting lost, remembering where I could use certain items, and all of that experience that came with super metroid.
>music
The environmental music for the different areas in Dread was disappointing and overall wack as frick compared to music from super or metroid prime. Those games have music with actual melodies that are still more ambient and atmospheric than the music in Dread
Is that a super early version of Dread? Looks like Sakamoto (or whoever put the project on hold for 15 years) wasn't wrong when he said it looked too much like Fusion
>posts human garbage
cope.god of wife's son is ass and will never be a real game. movies don't count as vidya so soi of jak will never be a real vidya.
I found it very effective at communicating the game's expectations to me mostly non verbally. It was nearly always clear where I should be going next even if I wasn't being railroaded into taking that path. Simply for that, I would say it's better than average.
Fusion is my favorite metroid and Super Metroid pales in comparison. Simply cause the enviroment that Fusion is in is simply way more interesting than Super's enviroment. I think the enviroment that you play through these games make or break the game for me.
All games have the exact same areas: the cold area, the hot area, the green jungly area, the lab area. Dread had the Chozo warrior tribe area and it was just decorations and copy pasted bosses
Correct, most 2d metroid games are very subpar games, with added back tracking not because of fun exploration but to pad the length of these already short games.
Very linear and tries (poorly) to trick you that it isn't. Attempt to backtrack even once and you'll notice all the gates the game puts up behind you. Very stupid.
The game gates you like any other 2D Metroid, I'm glad it didn't Fusion/Other M gate you. The two games you trannies like to defend for doing far worse.
>go out of my way to sequence break fusion >game jerks off how it's self-aware and how it totally knew I would sequence break it >locks down all the doors and orders me to backtrack ALL THE WAY back to the "right" path
Loaded question. Dread is pretty good, but not great imo. It did a lot of things right, but some things it fumbled. Best 2D bosses in the series though.
>Best 2D
dread isn't 2D it is an side scrolling platformer
Yes that's what a 2D game is just ask the Sonicgays they would know better than you would.
Sonicgay here, it's definitely 2D.
Are you part of the same homosexual group that has been trying to meme that 2.5D isn't real?
What is with this moronic shit lately? I've noticed with other terms as well. I swear it's an attempt to destroy all terms slowly but surely.
2.5D only applies to games that actually involve the third spacial axis in the gameplay. Like Shadow Complex
The Spaniards can't into Metroid. Returns was shit, too.
Both were great. I recently emulated SR in Citra and was surprised at how good it was when I only ever see anons like yourself say its terrible.
Get some taste
i bought Returns on release and bounced off 2 separate times, still haven't finished it

What an awful thread.

It’s okay if you have shit taste anon but just come out and say it next time. Also you’re objectively wrong, I’ve replayed both fusion and zero mission in the last decade and they hold up fine. Better than super dare I’d say.
dread is WAY better than fusion
I tried playing Samus Returns but it really didn't feel good to play on my vanilla 3DS.
I hate movie games and blatant cinematic pandering, but when you get rid of that filth, Dread isn't that bad.
>inb4 dude that looks heckin awesome
hah, and they said Ganker doesn't love Other M.
Goddamn this looks stupid. At this point I have no hope for any classic series to be decent anymore aside from maybe Mario.
moron

every fricking time with you, ACgay:

If you were playing good, you wouldn't need to be rewarded.
timing a parry is "playing good"

surprised it took this long for someone to tear this piece of shit game apart, i guess Ganker really is a bunch of consoomers
no one could say jackshit about dread cuz Metroidgays have been starved for soo long that the honeymoon period lasted a frickton
I had plenty to say about dread.
yeah but everyone would go and say how you got
>filtered
>go back
>metroid suit samus screaming like a feminist.jpg
You're gaslighting us.
>surprised it took this long
Most of that was talked about day one.

It isn't
Doesn't let you use your early power bombs.
Let’s start with the data

Nobody has ever paid $60 for Dread, it's always been on sale where I live
bad soundtrack, design is too random with no real noticable areas. bad design is covered by constant one way paths
Another hourly discord troony raid I see.
For me is the dumbass quick time events and that counter. Timing window is really short

Pretty reasonable pro/con list. I still enjoyed it and happily bought it so we hopefully get big budget metroids in the future.
Dread won.
I NEED spacewoman mutant gf
Because it's a Metroid game.
Next thread please.
so is OP a seething hollow Black person trying to cope over silksong STILL not existing? Or yet another supergay asshurt dread wasn't a literal copy/paste of super?
i like super, sue me
That's an exceptionally easy question.

Yes, because it was made by spanish people
>metadoom
>no metametroid
It was pretty great, I'd put it as tied for second place with AM2R tbh
ever heard of Metroid Planets?
Still surprised Nintendo hasn't DMCA'd this yet.
But it wasn’t shit, it’s just not very replayable outside of challenging yourself or going very fast. Hollow Knight had the same problem
Dread was a lot better than the dogshit that fusion, but it was still mediocre

Metroid Dread is great and real Metroid game, unlike Metroid Fusion.
Sure
Fusion was the start of the era of killing Metroid from making all the stupid moves that put the series on ice after Other M.
>crappy humanization of Samus that she really didn't need and show that the devs never had any understanding of her character prior
>human space station over an alien Chozo planet
>reusing the same factions for fanservice
>making a new faction that just mimics the old factions

Fusion sucked ass and it led to the even worse Other M. Even Dread refuse to acknowledge the corrupt Federation Army plot.
>It's another moron who doesn't realize that Fusion was Metroid embracing its Alien inspiration and literally intended as the opposite of Super
The entire point of it was to strip Samus from that faceless badass stereotype and focus on her as a person.
shame she is now a doomguy ripoff that screams a lot
Shut up, trannies who don't understand Samus or Metroid.
>immediately results to adhomins
okay.

She didn't even have character.
Lel her character was better when there were no 'writers' involved.
That's true of any video game character. Giving them "story" and "lore" and "personality" was worse for vidya than introducing DLC and microtransactions.
This, simple is always better.
Fusion sucks
>corrupt Federation Army plotline that would pit Samus against the good guys, humans
This was due to a mistranslated, the actual story is that there was a small corrupt group with in the federation that caused the events of fusion.
Oh, good, those storylines are always moronic, glad Nintendo was smart on just making it a small group.
Too bad other M still exist, and that story is a fricking mess. I really hope they retcon it at some point.
No point when its story is as important as a tree falling in the woods.
Other M basically retcons itself
>press X to awesome cutscene whoa samus is so badass
the counter "mechanic" they introduced in the last game was shit and they only made it worse in Dread. Most fights are just "wait for the ennemy to flash and press X"

Yours seem to be melded on your face.
Just sounds like the case of shit taste and Fusion being your first Metroid game.
