Ys 1 to Origin, Xanadu, Xanadu Next, and Brandish are all experiences of theirs I've tried and really loved so far. The one I enjoyed the least was probably Ys V.
Yes, particularly the Ys series. Even the newer ones, though I still wish for the games to go back more closely to the Ark engine style one day.
Only played Sky FC and SC. Kiseki feels like a bottomless hole, I might consider getting back into it if that series concludes at some point.
Still need to check out some of their other stuff like Xanadu Next, or Zwei!!. Only played Gurumin and Tokyo Xanadu aside from Ys/trails.
I don't have much experience with them but I did enjoy the four I've played enough to beat them, those being Legacy of the Wizard, Popful Mail, Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin. Not too curious right now about their more recent output but I've been meaning to try out Sorcerian, Xanadu, or Brandish.
the only one i didn't like so far was zwei, which wasn't bad but not very fun to play and had a lot of strange systems like only gaining exp by eating or the clunky combat. using the ui with a controller is also miserable. i'm currently at the end of ys 6 and it's good shit. not as good as origin but better than felghana.
i definitely will once i get there, it looks pretty good. after i'm done with ys 6 i'll play the rest of the catalog in release order so it's gurumin and xanadu next first.
Felghana is much smoother, with better feeling combat and is paced well. But I like that Napishtim feels like more of an RPG. The world was a lot more fun to explore to me, and even though the story was very simple it was more enjoyable. Better npcs too.

zwei 1 was trash, could not play it for more than an hour.
zwei 2 is a classic
Ys I for a fun ARPG with bump combat.
Ys Origins for non bump combat.
Ys VIII for a longer game with fun exploration and combat.
Trails In The Sky for an autistic rabbithole.
I researcher a little and these homies have developed a thousand games and somehow are still obscure as shit
How do they keep afloat, specially today that JRPGs arent popular anymore
They release about one game a year. And looking at the graphics, I can't imagine the production costs being too high.
They newer games also have DLC out the wazoo (costumes and such).

RGG also shit out a new Yakuza game every year which aren't selling well. Really makes you think...

Production costs are low and they don't take out loans, meaning they don't need to take as many risks or make as much profits as larger, more financialized, studios.
Always found Gurumin very charming looking but when I finally played it couldn't get past two hours. Felt awkward to control and the gameplay seemed too simple. Should I give it another shot or cut my losses?
Just played this game and it's great.
Though the fact that you can accidentally lock yourself our of platinums for the ENTIRE playthrough and accidentally eat the chocolate cake is bullshit (yes I did both). I get you're supposed to do multiple playthroughs but I really would've liked to have that shit done on my first.
I like Ys up through Seven, Xanadu Next, Gurumin and Brandish the Dark Revenant. I do recall liking breasts1 and have 2 to play, but Trails has gone so far off the deep end with games and I'm not that into turn-based at all. Both Zwei games are in my backlog, and I've tried Tokyo Xanadu but it's kinda bland.
Yes. I like all the post Napishtim Yses (except Seven) and am a Rufus-chad. Already beat both Kuros, the first of which is great and the second which is great mechanically but has a very weak finale. Time travel deaths are funny though.
The only thing I really know about their games is the one that people bragged about being longer than lotr in terms of word count and I highly doubt it warranted all that text
Majority of that text is because the NPCs update after each story beat (even minor ones most of the time) and are treated as consistent characters, rather than just Welcome to Corneria dispensers. Sometimes it is very well done (like my main hoe Officer Kate).
the only ys game i've played is oath in felghana, but i've played all trails up to kuro 2. i will get around to playing more ys eventually but i keep putting other games above them
i am having a hard time getting into kuro 2 however, but i will get to it eventually
falcom is still my favorite company right now
Currently playing Reverie and C is legitimately an incredible protagonist. He still keeps every bit of the smug dickishness that made him entertaining as a villain but his face turn does feel earned.
I like how every seemingly heroic thing (like finding the true Lapis from the replicas) he does has a dubious element to it and the moment you think the story is going to brush his actions in previous games under the rug to whitewash him you have scenes like Duvalie coming out of nowhere to confront Rufus about murdering Arianrhod.
based, he's my favorite kiseki protagonist since estelle. his interactions with lapis are kino. it's crazy how much he steals the spotlight after 6 games of bland protagonists.
yeah i love their games, played all of the YS series except for the 5 and old ones
their games games have that upskirt special touch ps1 and PS2 games had
i just wished the old kiseki games we're not that expensive for my poor ass
i used to be lol
ys 9 made me realize that gameplay style is very dull. it's technically well done but has a terrible base. oath in felghana is so fricking good and i wish they took more lessons from that.
haven't played 10 but it looks pretty similar to 7/8/9.
Tried to get into their games. Ys was a fine action rpg, nothing really amazing but enjoyable. Trails couldn't finish the series, writer's got their head up their own ass. Every plot point drags on way too long and nothing actually happens to any of the characters.
I have a question for all my Falcom frens, what game should I play first? >Ys I >Gurumin >Tokyo Xanadu >Brandish: The Dark Revenant
I also started breasts but I'm not very far in it (chapter 2), should I just keep playing that?
trails in the sky is arguably the best starting point for falcom games. if you prefer arpgs you can play Ys in any order, but i'd recommend either 1 or origin.
they have better music yes, but you will be forced to eiter bang your head into a wall until you learn the bump mechanicS or give up and reduce the difficulty
also the the city dungeon is total shit
that just depends on your tolerance for old school games. i started Ys with those and enjoyed them, specially 2. i agree origin or 8 are more accessible starting points though.
>Ys I
Doesn't matter a hell of a lot where you start with Ys chronologically, but I & II aren't the friendliest entries with their bump mechanics. Entries like Oath in Felghana and Origins are fan favorites and good starting points, but definitely give I & II a shot somewhere along the line. Hardly bad, just more of an acquired taste.
>Gurumin
Bit of an outlier for Falcom but it's good, by all means give it a go.
>Tokyo Xanadu
I only played a couple hours of this but I found it pretty dry. Xanadu Next is a much more interesting game IMO.
>Brandish the Dark Revenant
Chad alert, Brandish is hella based. More of a methodical dungeon crawler with ARPG elements than a full-on ARPG like Ys, but Dark Revenant works out the kinks with the early games' camera systems and it's basically the game it was always meant to be now. Strongly recommended on its own terms rather than a Falcom introduction specifically.
I think Trails in the Sky is garbage. I'd just skip that entire arc and go right to Cold Steel or maybe the Crossbell games. Estelle is insufferable and the game aged like crap.
It wasn't kuro, it was the fact that the general translated it before NISA which really pissed off the siscord when they caught wind of it. So now they've been spamming the thread ever since. NISA also hired some pajeet company at some point to DMCA the links.
Played through Kiseki recently, and I have to say that I hate the way they handled Tita and Agate. They were good characters that turned into a shitty couple joke that gets old quick.
In Cold Steel III, a moment like this happened: >bunch of characters get together, including Titan and Agate >discussing a potential terroristic threat, and the whereabout of spies in the capital >"...but yes, the spies are nowhere to be found. Tita, Agate, are you two on a date?" >"Wah! So embarassing?" >"Agate and Tita sitting on a tree!"
yes
they're the only company I'll buy anything from sight unseen because every title they've released for the last 20 years at least has been objectively kino
that, and I love how much their games trigger troons and homosexuals on Ganker
Brandish is the only game of theirs I've enjoyed.
Ys was absolute garbage that put me off the entire series.
Gurumin was ok for the dicky but not really worth playing beyond that.
Xanadu was simply boring.
>First one
Yeah, the first 2 are a coinflip as to whether or not someone will like them within, oh, 2 minutes of trying them? If you're gonna give Xanadu Next a shot then try Oath in Felghana as well. The series eventually gets an attack button, I promise.
Yes. I love Trails, not a super huge fan of Ys but I like it as well. I know some people don't like TX but I'm just happy they're finally making another game again outside of their big 2.
I like Ys and lost interest in Kiseki
Do they even make anything else these days?
Ys, I do.
fricking based
couldn't give less of a shit about their turn based games, both zwei games and gurumin are in my backlog though
Who
the only JRPGs I like
Ys or Trails?
Ys is not an RPG.
Action rpg are still rpgs, anon.
I hate that I do.
i love that i do
Maybe I will after they stop making games with PS3 graphics.
Name 1 Falcom game which best represents them and I will complete it. Give me your email and i will review it for you
Ys 1 to Origin, Xanadu, Xanadu Next, and Brandish are all experiences of theirs I've tried and really loved so far. The one I enjoyed the least was probably Ys V.

Still need to check out some of their other stuff like Xanadu Next, or Zwei!!. Only played Gurumin and Tokyo Xanadu aside from Ys/trails.
I used to. I haven't liked Trails since Sora and Ys since Origin.

Have you tried Zwei 2? It has a better production quality and the gameplay plus dynamic stages are vastly improved upon.
i definitely will once i get there, it looks pretty good. after i'm done with ys 6 i'll play the rest of the catalog in release order so it's gurumin and xanadu next first.
2.5 Ys > 3D Ys > Bump Ys
Swap 3D and bump for me. Those games go on way too long to be doing as little as they actually do. At least 2.5D and bump are paced appropriately.
I can see that yeah, the bump ones didn't overstay their welcome.
I do love 2.5 Ys though, I feel that it was the best gameplay wise.
I dont know I never played one, where should I start
Ys I for a fun ARPG with bump combat.
Ys Origins for non bump combat.
Ys VIII for a longer game with fun exploration and combat.
Trails In The Sky for an autistic rabbithole.
I researcher a little and these homies have developed a thousand games and somehow are still obscure as shit

They release about one game a year. And looking at the graphics, I can't imagine the production costs being too high.
They newer games also have DLC out the wazoo (costumes and such).
Fun fact, they are responsible for the ARPG genre.
I thought that was Hydlide or whatever you spell it
Dragon Slayer came out months before Hydlide, but they're both often credited with establishing ARPGs.
RGG also shit out a new Yakuza game every year which aren't selling well. Really makes you think...
Production costs are low and they don't take out loans, meaning they don't need to take as many risks or make as much profits as larger, more financialized, studios.
no wrong answer but personally:
trails in the sky if you like turn based jrpgs
ys origin if you like arpgs
if they look too dated for you or whatever, trails of cold steel or ys 8 are the starting point of many people
hell yeah
Always found Gurumin very charming looking but when I finally played it couldn't get past two hours. Felt awkward to control and the gameplay seemed too simple. Should I give it another shot or cut my losses?
Play with a controller if you weren't. If you still don't like it you just don't like it.
Parin!
Just played this game and it's great.
Though the fact that you can accidentally lock yourself our of platinums for the ENTIRE playthrough and accidentally eat the chocolate cake is bullshit (yes I did both). I get you're supposed to do multiple playthroughs but I really would've liked to have that shit done on my first.

yes, I do. I just hate how shit the localization of their games are.

oh but it absolutely did
Love, even.
I played Ys chronicles i+ii and then jumped to Ys 8 right away. I enjoyed both and plan to play Origins whenever i find the time.
Sure do but I'm burned out on Trails for a while, I'm looking forward to playing Ys X.
Yes. And every time Nintendo sends me a survey when I play one on Switch I make sure to tell them to fire the bastardizers.
the only ys game i've played is oath in felghana, but i've played all trails up to kuro 2. i will get around to playing more ys eventually but i keep putting other games above them
i am having a hard time getting into kuro 2 however, but i will get to it eventually
falcom is still my favorite company right now
i want another game like gurumin monstrous adventure
Reanbros, Ka Fai is finally here.
JP kino games that keep filtering westoids monkey
but I'm a westoid AND a monkey and I love Falcom!
I only like Ys VI, Felghana and Origin
I like Xanadu next
but I haven't played much more of their stuff
I do, even though falcom lost part of its sovl, especially in music and game design/writing. But they're still better than 99% of new AAA slop.
Kinohan Falcoom
Currently playing Reverie and C is legitimately an incredible protagonist. He still keeps every bit of the smug dickishness that made him entertaining as a villain but his face turn does feel earned.

Yes
Cant wait for tokyo xanadu 2
This is an insane shit eating comment. You actually want more after playing Tokyo Xanadu 1. Holy shit. The cult of Falcom is real.
Nah, you Ganker are too depressed
Ys and Xanadu Next only. The rest of the games are meh.
Yeah, mostly Ys and its banger osts
Current Ys and trails are disasters
I played Trails, Tokyo Xanadu and Ys and all of them are great.
Ys on a boat
That's most of them (for the intro, at least), but I guess you mean X.
Only Trails. Nothing else they do matters to me at all, but I will buy Trails until I die.
yeah i love their games, played all of the YS series except for the 5 and old ones

that just depends on your tolerance for old school games. i started Ys with those and enjoyed them, specially 2. i agree origin or 8 are more accessible starting points though.

just finished cs2 and hated it
how is the gameplay on kuro? is the orbment system the same as cs? i liked sky and crossbell orbment system more
Not really. Their games just seem like the most incredibly basic action rpgs ever made from the couple I played.
Why did Kuro No Kiseki mindbreak the /vg/ thread?
It wasn't kuro, it was the fact that the general translated it before NISA which really pissed off the siscord when they caught wind of it. So now they've been spamming the thread ever since. NISA also hired some pajeet company at some point to DMCA the links.

Next is worth trying. Which Ys game did you play?

try origins, it is pretty good and it goes on sale a lot of times, I bought it for a friend recently for $5

No. They've made nothing but complete trash for 43 years yet are somehow still in business.
No
who is the jp-kino guy i can't tell anymore
Yes. I love Trails, not a super huge fan of Ys but I like it as well. I know some people don't like TX but I'm just happy they're finally making another game again outside of their big 2.
